Unique and distinctive collections at Maynooth University Library are used innovatively through digitization, outreach, discovery systems, space management, and curriculum support. Visits to the special collections have increased from 425 in 2009-2010 to over 1,700 in 2013-2014. The library collaborates on digitization projects, engages various audiences through social media and exhibitions, and strives to develop, curate, and provide access to its collections. In 2012, a new dedicated special collections reading room and secure storage area were created to complement the historic collections housed in the Russell Library.
