The Pledge Should Be Allowed In The United States
The argument of being made to stand and say the pledge has become a hot topic. People believe that
the portion of Under God is unconstitutional and should be taken out. However there are also people
who believe that everyone should say the pledge to their country. There is deep and rich history on the
pledge itself. The pledge should still be said in public schools to keep a sense of patriotism in the
country. First off the history of the pledge started about 120 years ago. The pledge was invented for
the 400 year anniversary of Columbus discovering America. According to Freedom of Religion
Foundation, Seeking ideas to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America on
Columbus Day, 1892, President Benjamin Harrison had initiated a call for the development of a
special patriotic school program to highlight the event. Bellamy and Upham were able to line up the
National Education Association to support Youth s Companion as a sponsor of the observance, and
arranged for President Harrison and Congress to announce a national proclamation which centered
around an American flag ceremony and (then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pledge is still said today to instill a sense of nation pride. People who believe the pledge should
still be said and there should not be any controversy at all claim that if an American citizen is in
America they should take pride in their country and say the pledge. According to Teach nology the
main reason that the pledge of allegiance is said in schools is to instill a sense of patriotism amongst
students. Some believe that it shouldn t be controversial at all because it the process is just what it is
described as: a pledge. It is certainly far from being an oath which can bind a student against what
they are saying. There is no rule saying that you have to say every word of the pledge, if a certain part
is offensive just do not say that

The Effect of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Deficiency on Rye...
Introduction
Plants grow and reproduce and in order to do so they need certain resources. Both external and
internal resources partly determine the plants development. Common resources are water, space and
nutrient obtained from either the plant s environment or food. They get sugar through photosynthesis
using water, light, CO2 and other necessary nutrients. Plants require nutrients to build molecules so
reactions can take place that are required for the plant growth, maintenance and reproduction (Rush,
Gladilina and Condy 2014). These nutrients usually are taken up by the plant through their roots and
leaves. Nitrogen is the most important nutrient to plants, as it is a macronutrient and needed in large
amounts for plants (Rush, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this research is to find out how nutrients, such as phosphorus and nitrogen affect plant
growth. To find out how the plants are affected by growth in the different nutrient treatments. With the
results found, what does this suggest about how people should fertilize the soil in which people grow
food crops. Using the species of grass rye, the research investigates the effect of the absence of
nitrogen and phosphorus.
By using three different treatments, a full complement of nutrient, a full complement without the most
important nutrient, Nitrogen and a full complement of Phosphorus, the length of the root and shoot
and the biomass are observed and analyzed. If nitrogen was deprived from the rye seedlings growth
process then the biomass, shoot length and root length will be affected more than depriving the rye
seedlings from phosphorus. The null hypothesis would be, if rye was deprived the nutrient
phosphorus, then it would have a larger effect on the rye seedlings shoot length, root length, and
biomass than depriving the plant from nitrogen.

Modernist Styles, Including Cubism, Orphism, and Futurism...
Modernist styles, including Cubism, Orphism, and Futurism challenged the practices of traditional
representational art.
I will argue that modernist styles including Cubism, Orphism and Futurism did challenge the practices
of traditional representational art. While some may argue that that the fact that modern styles were
concerned with subject gives doubt to how challenging they really were to representational art I
oppose this idea entirely. All art is representational in some way. Rather than a dismissing the concept
of representation in art the modernist styles challenged the validity of the external representation,
which had previously been the foundation of art, by focussing on conceptual representation.

Initially the search for a new, more truthful pictorial space was found in the introduction of time, the
fourth dimension, into space. Around this time in history the concept that space and time where
interlinked was suggested by Einstein s theory of relativity which destroyed the concept that the
dimensions of an object were absolute, by demonstrating that they depended on the relative position of
the viewer. This abstract concept was portrayed in Cubism through the use of synthesised impressions
of an image or space. As you view an image or object, your impression is not static but a moving
collection of impressions over time. The use of multiple viewpoints aimed to compress a multiplicity
of information gathered from various experiences of an object into one image.
This innovation of a truer space is most evidently portrayed by the analytic phase of Cubism. Through
the incorporation of the new artistic conventions the fragmentation of form was developed. The
intention was to encompass the entire visual experience of an object into one image and through this
idea an effective technique of breaking up form into planes and facets which each expressed a sample
of visual information. The Cubist works now possessed a shallow pictorial space due to the
abandonment of perspective on which these

The Ancient Greek Culture In The Epic Of Ancient Greece
Every culture is defined by its values and traditions. The Ancient Greek culture served as a structure
for many aspects of Western Civilization. A remarkable civilization thrived in Greece. The period of
Greece was an incredible time for achievements and findings in literature, art, language, science, and
others. Its people created the first democratic government, the first Olympic Games, and they made
significant benefactions to architecture. FINISH
Indeed, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, personifies the value of intelligence herself and
appreciates it very much in humans, like Odysseus and Telemachus. In the epic of The Odyssey,
Odysseus, a brilliant Greek warrior fighting in the Trojan War, has tried countless times to return
home, but because he offended Poseidon, the god of the sea, Odysseus has been held confined. With
Odysseus being held captive, many men have tried to take over his kingdom. It is then that Athena
decided to help recreate wisdom and trust among Odysseus son; she went to restore the young man s
confidence (The Odyssey, 2). For this reason, Athena is a goddess who is bright, self assured, and
realistic, all of which she finds in Odysseus son Telemachus. She goes on to say, and assure you that
he will not be away much longer; for he is a man of such resource that even though he were in chains
of iron he would find some means of getting home again (The Odyssey, 2). Reestablishing this
confidence within Telemachus gave him a sure feeling

Gaius Marius
Roman s had an idealised view of what their politicians should be. From their ancestry to their
attributes. In this essay I shall be looking at Gaius Marius. How did he live up to the Roman ideals?
What are those ideals? I shall a number of these ideals one by one. But first I shall discuss what ideals
the Romans have and why. The easiest way to find out the ideals Romans had. Was to look some tomb
inscriptions. These are useful since the Romans would list the most important things about this person.
Since what is important in one s life is subjective. It tells us what the Roman found important and
therefore these tell us what they value. Giving us insight to what Romans value in their politicians.

Marius had two triumphs. He must of been a great military commander to earn achievement. His
military process is what got him his first consulship. Plutarch describes how his name and reputation
spread through Africa and he also notes Marius display of consummate courage (Plutarch Marius 7)
Your name and reputation don t spread for no reason; Marius must have had excelled in the qualities
most sought after in regard to war. Plutarch says how he showed the he was: capable of going through
what the soldiers injured, his foresight. The former gave him considerable affection and loyalty from
the troops , this loyalty lead to the soldiers writing back to Rome, stating that The African war could
only be won if Marius was elected consol (Plutarch Marius 7) This shows that Marius must have
excelled hugely at military process. The Scipio Epitaph s list the father and offices the father held and
military successes. This must have been a compelling argument to the Romans. Plutarch notes how
Metellus was visually displeased about this (Plutrach Marius 8) Giving us further evidence to how
people felt about new men. He had to quickly get back to Rome. With his first consulship he enrolled
a large number of paupers, and slaves into the army (PLutrach Marius 9). This action is unpreceded
and must have annoyed some. This shows that he thought of new ways to use the Roman armies.
Which was basically taking the poor and training them. That training would appear to pay off. He got
a triumph. It must have been quite a shock to the Romans in some ways that a new man who becomes
consol comes into Rome celebrating a triumph. Q.Metelleus told Marius that he d support Marius
being consol with his son. An insult of sorts since Marius already 49 and that son about fifteen years
younger than him. To achieve something that hadn t happened in a long time and for it to be a new
man must have shocked a lot of people. Or at

John Steinbeck s Greatest Accomplishments
John Steinbeck, born in 1902 in Salinas California to John Ernst and Olive Hamilton Steinbeck,
became one of the greatest American writers of his century. Growing up Steinbeck read vigorously
and was fascinated by Sir Thomas Malory s Morte D Arthur. It was Malory s Morte D Arthur that
influenced Steinbeck for the rest of his life. Steinbeck graduated from Salinas High School in 1919
and attended Stanford University. He took courses in science and particularly became interested in
marine biology. Although he studied at Stanford for five years, Steinbeck left without a degree
(Bloom). After moving to New York City in 1925 to take a job as a journalist, Steinbeck moved back

The Grapes of Wrath has been translated into nearly every language of the world. The novel has been
accepted as a masterpiece of world literature and is considered one of the most enduring works of
fiction by an American author. In the past 50 years, The Grapes of Wrath has sold over 14 million
copies and it still sells 100,000 paperback copies a year (Pearson). Of all his books, The Grapes of
Wrath has given Steinbeck the most popularity as an American author.
Although Steinbeck is still known for many more publications, In Dubious Battle, Of Mice and Men,
and The Grapes if Wrath were the three novels that both started his career and allowed it to prevail, his
books are said to currently sell 2 million copies a year (kinsella). Steinbeck died in New York during
the winder of 1968 but his novels are still read all over the country and he is still looked up to as one
of the best American Authors. A writer of immense popularity and public recognition during a career,
which spanned four decades, John Steinbeck, a writer of the 1930 s, is still perhaps the most
representative novelist of that decade and is still widely read and appreciated.

Why Is Santa Clause Wrong
Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach children
myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or
sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child s baby but both we and the child
know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man
drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong.
Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good ,
and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be
communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to
show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents ourselves?
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We show our love to others through presents, an age old tradition stemming from the gift giving magi,
and jolly old saint Nick. Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the year, but
Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we know they
will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use Santa Claus
as a middleman, how is this teaching children the gift of giving ? Or that we take time to think of
them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling attached to the
present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. If christmas is about love, family and
friendship, why do we use an imaginary stranger as an

Examples Of Turning Point In Julius Caesar
This passage marks a defining turning point in Julius Caesar. Caesar, persuaded to stay at home by his
wife, chooses instead to attend the fatal Senate meeting that Ides of March. Decius masterfully
persuasive flattery and argument serve to counter and nullify Calpurnia s less skillfully stated claims.
Calphurnia s argument is weaker from the beginning. Starting off with her personal fright, the great
majority of her argument is unadulterated pathos. She chooses to discuss omens and signs and try to
render unto Caesar that fear which is her own. She fails to grasp that, to maintain his swaggering self
image, Caesar would reject any appeals that would cause him to appear cowardly. In his vast hubris,

Survival In Auschwitz Essay
Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his
habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering
and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint, for he who loses all often easily loses himself. This short
quote is taken from Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz . It depicts a true story of Primo Levi during
the Holocaust, who was relocated to an extermination camp after beginning a great life after college.
Primo was captured with a resistant group from Italy. He used his college education and degree in
chemistry to stay alive.
The above quote brings a similar quote to mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the liberation of Auschwitz, Primo again had nothing. Necessities and goods were furnished
throughout his life and now Primo had to start all over. He had nothing except for life, something most
people who walked through the front gates of Auschwitz lost.
Jesus Christ lived a similar life many, many years before. He lived his young adulthood life teaching
the people of the world about God and humanity. He cherished his life and the life of others. He
respected all living things and tried to help them live a non sinful life. He too was deprived of things
near the end of his life. Like Primo, Jesus was convicted of what he thought and spoke of and was
killed. The main difference between the two men is that Jesus lost his life. Jesus though had a second
chance as he was later resurrected from hell and brought into heaven. There he again helped the
people of the world.
Furthermore, both of these men were convicted of religious believes and ripped away of their lives.
Even though Primo died many years after his stay at Auschwitz, he was never the same before that. He
will be a man whose life and death can be lightly decided with no sense of human affinity, in the most
fortunate of cases, on the basis of a pure judgment of utility. It is in the way that one can understand
the double sense of the term, extermination camp, and it is now clear what we seek to

The Books Of Joshua And Judges Are Very Informative In
The books of Joshua and Judges are very informative in nature, detailing the events that occurred as
Israel entered, conquered, and settled in the Promised Land. These two accounts shine a light on very
important events that would shape the nation they would eventually become. Many miraculous events
took place in these chapters, as God was fighting and winning battles for His people. These narratives
also include many exhilarating and extraordinary battles that are sure to captivate any reader.
However, despite the many spectacular occurrences that fill both Joshua and Judges, their difference

Joshua was a man that knew God and dedicated himself to serving Him. Joshua single handedly led
the children of Israel to conquer the Promised Land, and he certainly displayed the power of God
through his life.
Most importantly, however, is the truth that Israel was a theocracy, in that it followed the One True
God. God gave His instruction to Joshua, and Joshua passed on this instruction to the people. They, in
turn, were not receiving their commands and instructions from a man, such as the heathen nations of
the day. Instead, they were led by a God that had chosen them and cared for them ever since they left
the land of Egypt. The reason that they were able to prosper and succeed is that God was their official
leader.
The book of Judges, however, describes this same nation s government very differently. After settling
into the Promised Land, Israel s form of government seemed to become extremely disorganized.
Despite the fact that God had given them clear laws and guidelines for social order, these people
seemed to be very dysfunctional in their ability to follow a clear pattern like they had done in the book
of Joshua.
This was largely due to their reputation of having a variety of leaders. None of the judges led the
people at one time; however, none of them led for a particularly long period of time. Their cycles of
captivity and repatriation resulted in many different people coming into power at different times.
Surely, a revolving

Greed In King Henry Viii
Imagine a world were you can not say something you may feel without the fear of being the next
victim of the execution s, or when your religion is changed due to the greed of one king and
everything you were taught to believe comes tumbling down. During the reign of King Henry VIII
from 1491 1547 that s exactly how most people felt. He was a selfish king, corrupted by greed and lust
with no sense of empathy towards his people. King Henry showed he was an awful king over and over
again with the Act of Supremacy , the dislike his people had for him, and earning the title of the man
who executed the most men and women during his time as king.
Henry s reign caused major troubled for England. There was an increase in unemployment, raising the
rents and fines for farmers, (Sparknotes) but the main thing that devastated England and its people was
The Reformation. The Reformation saw the breaking away of the English Church from the Catholic
Church in Rome in 1534 and the installation of King Henry VIII as its Supreme Head (Robinson).
Henry married Katherine of Aragon in 1527, he had multiple affairs through out the marriage and was
desperate for a male heir. They were married for over twenty years until Henry s lustful eyes meant
that of Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn drove Henry mad with lust refusing to submit to him until she was
Queen of England. Henry VIII tried and tried again to get Katherine out of picture but many priest
were against the divorce and refused to grant it.

The Intel Edison, a remarkable CPU designed with capabilities to support wearable technology and
regular day to day items. We choose the Intel Edison because it fulfils certain criteria which will make
our customers happy.
Its main feature is its size. At an astounding 35.5 x 25 x 3.9 mm, the Intel Edison is slightly bigger
than your average size toenail. The AR 1 needs a CPU to be small so that its weight cannot affect the
comfort of the wearer. The compact size of the CPU creates the possibility for hardware upgrades.
Considering its size, it certainly does not slack behind other CPU s in the processing department.
Considered to be in the Pentium class (Brown 2014), the Intel Edison features a dual core dual

The Role Of Male As Breadwinner On The Workplace
The term work/life Balance has evolved around the idea of balancing work, life and family
responsibilities in 1986 in USA. The concepts of work/life balance, work/family balance, work/life
conflict, work/family conflict have gained prominence in the recent years due to the changes in the
society and the workplace. The role of male as breadwinner is no longer relevant as more and more
women are coming out to work and support the family in the best possible way(Charlesworth et al,
Rajadhyaksha and Bhatnagar, 2000). With workplaces becoming more gender balanced (Bardeol et al,
2000), the degendered workplace, equally cohabited by men and women (Zetlin and Whitehouse,
1998), is exploring Work/life Balance and Work/life Conflict as conditions equally applicable to both
men and women. The term has three important components work , life and balance . In simple terms,
work is normally conceived of in this context as including paid employment while life includes
activities outside work. According to Skinner and Pocock (2008), life activities outside the domain of
paid work include, family, friends and community, thus, subsuming family issues. The term balance
too, lends itself to a variety of meanings. Clark (2000) defines balance as satisfaction and good
functioning at work and at home with a minimum of role conflict . A simplistic definition of balance
may be sufficient time to meet commitments at both home and work . 1.1 What Is Work Life Balance?

How Did Beethoven Change Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the
sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine
symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right
out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed music by creating a new era called Romanticism,
influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist.
The first way that Beethoven changed music was by creating romanticism. Ludwig is viewed as the
most transitional figure between the eras of classical and romanticism of musical history. Even though
his first period was more conventional he grew tired of this and made his second time period ... Show

He took the old methods and twisted to match his style of thinking. As mentioned before, Ludwig used
a D major melody and a B minor harmony all at once. (Discuss) He then called this juxtaposed chords,
which were opposing the old idea where they generally did not mix minor and major chords. If he
changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced
Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea
of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind.
Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was
meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of
his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural
and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. (Guthrie) While he was influenced by his
teachers, he took their old ways and transformed them into a new version of thinking to help others
actually express themselves through the power of music. He changed the old methods into a new and
improved version. He held onto the old culture without wearing it

Pros And Cons Of Sex Offender Registry
Even with threats at our nation s borders and innovation becoming stagnant in our race to be the best,
one of the most feared crimes committed in the United States is sexual abuse. The 2005 Gallup poll

population of California was approximately 37,444,000 (10). With this fact present, statistically each
registered resident of California would had to have searched for the website about 5 times
independently. These statistics seem to support that the people use these websites for purposes they
were not made for. An example of misuse of the sex offender registry was in the case of a sex offender
named Jeff (not his real name) who was assaulted by his former friend who found him on the registry.
Jeff s friend decided to bring two bikers to come and abuse Jeff (Yoder). This specific incident is not
isolated, but is widespread. A recent study found that the overwhelming majority of respondents [sex
offenders] reported that they had experience significant levels of harassment as a result of having to
publicly register as sex offenders (Worley and Worley 342). The public registry allows for the sexual
offender to be ridiculed and assaulted even after their determined sentenced time for their misconduct
is over. An even more surprising study done by Caputo, Caputo and Brodsky, Zevitz et al., and Zevitz
claimed that notification [in the way of sex offender information online] can increase anxiety [to the
public] (Levenson et al. 589). The public registry is now failing at what it was made to do, make the
public have a sense of security. Instead, this security theater tactic has backfired for the government,
making people feel more uneasy. An even more revealing study showed that out of 232 sex offenders,
9% did not live at the address that the online database had presented (Worley and Worley 337). These

The Importance Of Lancelot In Malory s Morte D Arthur
Malory explicitly links Tristram and Lancelot in their desire for the unattainable and their
correspondence as contemporaries confined to new ideas presented as high treason. Elizabeth Kay
Harris describes the changes the textual alterations signify in her 1995, Evidence Against Lancelot and
Guinevere in Malory s Morte D Arthur: Treason by Imagination . By using a background of law, she
argues that the process in Tristram demonstrates the inverse of Lancelot and represents a uniquely
English reading of the two. However, Lancelot admires Tristram until he weds a woman other than
Iseult the Fair. Capellanus argument should allow these relationships to work, as long as, singular
attachment does not form the goal. Both men overstep Capellanus ramifications, finding themselves
falling from their lord s graces and ostracized from society. With these warnings in mind, book VII,
Lancelot and Guinevere, sees the public behavior of Guinevere shame Arthur after the knights return
from the quest for the Holy Grail. Lancelot tries to break off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The structure of Guinevere s adultery showed direct alteration in the English translation to avoid direct
description of an English queen s sexuality and political agency. Though sexual liberty ebbed over the
previous time, the literature of the courtly love movement ensured the sanctity of noblewomen s
bodies as they held the ultimate choice in partner selection. Without this decisive power, male
courtiers regained power in relationships and regulated women s involvement in their affairs. As a
result, Guinevere loses her autonomy in her courtship with Lancelot and only survives through
inaction and silence allows her to escape. Guinevere s narrative shows the secularization of the female

Humans And Replicants In Ridley Scott s Blade Runner
Ridley Scott s 1982 Blade Runner presents viewers with a dystopian world of Los Angeles where
genetically engineered robots known as Replicants, are executed in an emotionless and indifferent
procedure called retirement by special police operatives called Blade Runners. The interactions
between humans and Replicants highlight the diminishing state of humanity that humans have brought
upon themselves. This is not only shown through the conflicting yet human ambitions of the
Replicants, but contrasted with the cold and gloomy depiction of humans as a whole. Humans are
additionally depicted to be ignorant of the many similarities between Replicants and themselves, often
due to a lack of empathy. These depictions of Replicants as a more emotionally attached species
prompt viewers to make a somewhat ironic conclusion: that they portray greater humanity than actual
humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, the humans of Blade Runner seem to not realise the importance of accomplishing goals.
Instead, it is the Replicants who portray a more human like mindset and the struggles of Roy Batty

handsome and intellectual man, and this gives the audience the sense that he is self aware and capable
of achieving goals. The recurring motif of eyes demonstrates the constant desire for self awareness,
for human identity. Both Replicants experience great hardship and go to extreme lengths to achieve
both goals. While they do not succeed, it is their attempt to conquer them is what makes them more

Cornerstone Services Residential Group Homes
Problem
Cornerstone Services residential group homes currently house 65 intellectually disabled individuals
who are being tracked for self harm and have been resistant to treatment (Behavioral Tracking).
Several behavioral and medication therapies have been implemented, however, the detrimental
behavior has persisted. This leads to the need for one to one supervision and other restricting
interventions. Self injurious behavior (SIB) is a persistent problem in the intellectually disabled
community that can have an enormous negative effect on the quality of life for the individual
including more restrictive housing, less outings in the community, and extreme physical harm or death
(Cooper et al., 2009; Embrants, Didden, Huitink, Schreuder, 2009; Pelios, Morren, Tesch, Axelrod,

Essay about The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
Buddhism and Christianity were each founded by one person, and then eventually grew into two of the
largest religions in the world. Each religion had different reasons for the success in the spreading of
each respected belief. Although both faced many hardships, the two religions overcame and prevailed
through their problems and continued to find ways to attract new believers every day.
Buddhism was founded by one man, Siddhartha Guatama. He was born into royalty around 563
B.C.E. in a Kingdom near the border of India and Nepal. He was raised in wealth and luxury, and at
the age of 16, he married a wealth woman and they had a child together. Around the age of 29, he

When, through his Buddhahood, he had cognized this fact, the earth swayed like a woman drunken
with wine, the sky shone bright with the Siddhas who appeared in crowds in all the directions, and the

cloudless sky, flowers and fruits dropped from the trees out of season in an effort, as it were, to show
reverance for him,? (The Global Experience, Ashvaghosha, pg. 79).
Having achieved enlightenment, the Buddha began spreading his knowledge to help others achieve ?
Nirvana?, which means to be released from the reincarnation cycle. He preached that there were 4
Noble Truths: (1) all life is suffering; (2) the source of suffering is desire; (3) to end desiring is to end
suffering; (4) there is an eight fold path to end suffering; to have the right understanding, thought,
speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. This idea of being released from
suffering attracted many people, and Buddhism soon spread rapidly through Northern India, and then
through Southern India.
However, the popularity of this form of Buddhism (Theravada, as it came to be known, meaning ?way
of the elders?) began to dwindle as only a few people were being able to enlightenment as it was so
difficult. It was mainly monks who were practicing the eight fold path, and they would meditate for

Phillis Wheatley was the the first African American writer to have her books published in the United
States. Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral written by Wheatley was viewed as a model
for the importance of education with religious aspects, as it was often seen throughout her poetry.
Formulated mainly of neoclassical elegiac poetry, Poems on Various Subjects triggered several
discussions concerning the length to which Wheatley can be deemed a minor poet or whether she
wrote to express politics and moral trouble. Born in West Africa, Phillis Wheatley was bought at a
slave auction in 1791 by the wife of a Boston trader. During that time it was routine to rename the

One anti slavery activist in particular, Selina Hastings, defended the publication in France of her

Wheatley could not attend the meeting because she needed to take care of Mrs. Wheatley who was
deathly ill. After the passing of her owner, Phillis Wheatley became a freed slave. She lost all contact

Harriet Jacobs vs Fredrick Douglas
Slavery was one of the most tragic memories known for in the black race. Slavery is the process at
which an African American is purchased by a Caucasian who is used for exhausting labor work such
as picking cotton, or tending to house work and being restricted from freedom. All of the slaves were
used and abused physically, mentally, and emotionally. In some cases abuse was the death of many of
those slaves. The slaves were classified as the lowest of the low and were banned from learning,
reading, and writing. Not all slaves lives ended at those abusive plantations. Two former slaves whose
lives turned out a success was Harriet Jacobs and Fredrick Douglass.
February 11, 1813 in Edenton, North Carolina Harriet Jacobs was born into slavery. Harriet Jacobs s
parents were Elijah and Delilah Jacobs mother and father of Harriet and her older brother John Jacob

The Impact Of Globalization On Business Organization
The need for the best use of scarce resources has made the issue of management very important in
every organization.
The bottom line of the key principles of management ie planning, organizing and controlling is to get
things done efficiently and effectively through others.
These key principles requires that different people with different capabilities are needed to achieve the
overall objective of every business organization.
Organizational structure helps to segregate these different capabilities with specific powers and
responsibilities and also determine the chain of command to carefully demonstrate to each member
what the organization seeks to achieve with the resources available.
Management continuously need to update and adopt to enable them deal with the various challenges
that confront them.
Globalization of business has to do with the production of goods and services across nations which
indicates that there is the need to perform management functions across nations.
International trade has come to stay with its accompanying challenges which requires the right

Ireland had to obtain a specific amount of abundant resources to keep the British homeland both
secure and well. Ireland was fed up with European dependence upon them but they could do nothing
about this because of lack of strength against their controller of the time, Britain (Braa 2). One thing

In 1798, 100,000 Irish revolted in an attempt to end all British rule was brutally crushed by the
opposition. As a result of this, two years later Britain introduced the British Act of Union in which
Ireland was a part of the United Kingdom Penal laws against the Catholic Irish lay law from 1695 all
the way until 1829 in where Ireland emancipated itself but because of the Irish lay low tactics, this
was not the biggest of deals at the time. by the mid 1800s, many high minded English politicians and
social reformers began to think that Ireland was a nation in need of transformation, that its people now
needed to be yanked into the modern world by tossing out the old Gaelic traditions. Many at the time
thought of Ireland being old fashioned and needed modernizing. English protestants were fed up with
Irish dawdling doing essentially no work . With such a bountiful amount of crops in before years of
the famine (1820 1835), Irish society grew to an astonishing 8 million citizens and growing. With the
increase in people, Britain passed The Act of Union, greedily taking most of Ireland s profits. Even
though free trade was allowed between the two nations and tensions were at a low, Britain used
Ireland as a sort of waste land for its surplus of resources. When industrialization began to play a huge
factor in British success, it ended famous Irish linen and wool services putting many out of work.
When the British conducted the Poor Enquiry survey in 1835, it concluded up to 75% of Irish were out
of work and this needed to change. Under intense pressure from English Reformists, the British
government enacted the Poor Law Act of 1838 in which Ireland was subsided into 130 unions

officials, and the hard working class (men, women and children

What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most...
Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately, there
has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although many
researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many theories as to
why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial and lateral
hamstring muscle that leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring strains are
painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be found in
athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions (Valle,
2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the back of the
thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to bend the leg.
The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps femoris. The
hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia (Prentice, 2015).
These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis. The muscles meet at
the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through connective tissue that
attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle groups work to help
extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing

Plantar Neuroma, Morton’s Metatarsalgia or neuralgia
Morton s neuroma
Definition
Also known as plantar neuroma, Morton s metatarsalgia or neuralgia.
It is a non invasive inflammation and pain of the nerve supplying the metatarsals of the foot. Most
commonly known to occur between the second and third metatarsal spaces of the metatarsal heads.
It is characterised by pain, numbness and might be relieved when the footwear is removed. Many
sources see it as a perineural fibroma and not a true tumour. (Wikipedia, 2014)
It is because fibrous tissue around the nerve develops and becomes irritated and inflamed and mostly
causes bad pain on the ball of the foot and at the base of the toes. (Nhs.uk, 2014)
Occurrence
Morton s neuroma can occur in both feet or only one foot may be affected. (Nhs.uk, 2014)
It also occurs more in women aged 30 to 50 because of shoes not fitting correctly. May also occur
between the forth and third metatarsal space. (Terence Vanderheiden, 2014)
(Carolinafootspecialists.net, 2014)
Signs and symptoms
The usual complaint is pain that starts at the ball and shoots into the affected toes of the foot. Some
people only have pain in the toes. Some people may complain about a burning or tingling sensation in
the toes. Symptoms are usually felt on the sides of the space between the toes. An example of this is
when the nerve between metatarsals three and four of the right foot are affected the

Herbert J. Hagerman was hired by the US government to lead Navajo tribal councils and run the

was reorganized and the reservation had someone in control of the nation. Peter MacDonald was

  • 2. The Pledge Should Be Allowed In The United States The argument of being made to stand and say the pledge has become a hot topic. People believe that the portion of Under God is unconstitutional and should be taken out. However there are also people who believe that everyone should say the pledge to their country. There is deep and rich history on the pledge itself. The pledge should still be said in public schools to keep a sense of patriotism in the country. First off the history of the pledge started about 120 years ago. The pledge was invented for the 400 year anniversary of Columbus discovering America. According to Freedom of Religion Foundation, Seeking ideas to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America on Columbus Day, 1892, President Benjamin Harrison had initiated a call for the development of a special patriotic school program to highlight the event. Bellamy and Upham were able to line up the National Education Association to support Youth s Companion as a sponsor of the observance, and arranged for President Harrison and Congress to announce a national proclamation which centered around an American flag ceremony and (then ... People who believe the pledge should still be said and there should not be any controversy at all claim that if an American citizen is in America they should take pride in their country and say the pledge. According to Teach nology the main reason that the pledge of allegiance is said in schools is to instill a sense of patriotism amongst students. Some believe that it shouldn t be controversial at all because it the process is just what it is described as: a pledge. It is certainly far from being an oath which can bind a student against what they are saying. • 3. The Effect of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Deficiency on Rye... Introduction Plants grow and reproduce and in order to do so they need certain resources. Both external and internal resources partly determine the plants development. Common resources are water, space and nutrient obtained from either the plant s environment or food. They get sugar through photosynthesis using water, light, CO2 and other necessary nutrients. Plants require nutrients to build molecules so reactions can take place that are required for the plant growth, maintenance and reproduction (Rush, Gladilina and Condy 2014). These nutrients usually are taken up by the plant through their roots and leaves. Nitrogen is the most important nutrient to plants, as it is a macronutrient and needed in large amounts for plants (Rush, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this research is to find out how nutrients, such as phosphorus and nitrogen affect plant growth. To find out how the plants are affected by growth in the different nutrient treatments. With the results found, what does this suggest about how people should fertilize the soil in which people grow food crops. Using the species of grass rye, the research investigates the effect of the absence of nitrogen and phosphorus. By using three different treatments, a full complement of nutrient, a full complement without the most important nutrient, Nitrogen and a full complement of Phosphorus, the length of the root and shoot and the biomass are observed and analyzed. If nitrogen was deprived from the rye seedlings growth process then the biomass, shoot length and root length will be affected more than depriving the rye seedlings from phosphorus. The null hypothesis would be, if rye was deprived the nutrient phosphorus, then it would have a larger effect on the rye seedlings shoot length, root length, and biomass than depriving the plant from nitrogen. Materials and Methods Obtain a planting container. Cut one paper towel in half, fold and place on the bottom of the container. Cut a layer of cotton to fit at the bottom of the container and place it on the paper towel. Use the other half of the paper towel, fold and place it on top of the cotton. • 4. Modernist Styles, Including Cubism, Orphism, and Futurism... Modernist styles, including Cubism, Orphism, and Futurism challenged the practices of traditional representational art. I will argue that modernist styles including Cubism, Orphism and Futurism did challenge the practices of traditional representational art. While some may argue that that the fact that modern styles were concerned with subject gives doubt to how challenging they really were to representational art I oppose this idea entirely. All art is representational in some way. Rather than a dismissing the concept of representation in art the modernist styles challenged the validity of the external representation, which had previously been the foundation of art, by focussing on conceptual representation. Traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially the search for a new, more truthful pictorial space was found in the introduction of time, the fourth dimension, into space. Around this time in history the concept that space and time where interlinked was suggested by Einstein s theory of relativity which destroyed the concept that the dimensions of an object were absolute, by demonstrating that they depended on the relative position of the viewer. This abstract concept was portrayed in Cubism through the use of synthesised impressions of an image or space. As you view an image or object, your impression is not static but a moving collection of impressions over time. The use of multiple viewpoints aimed to compress a multiplicity of information gathered from various experiences of an object into one image. This innovation of a truer space is most evidently portrayed by the analytic phase of Cubism. Through the incorporation of the new artistic conventions the fragmentation of form was developed. The intention was to encompass the entire visual experience of an object into one image and through this idea an effective technique of breaking up form into planes and facets which each expressed a sample of visual information. The Cubist works now possessed a shallow pictorial space due to the abandonment of perspective on which these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Ancient Greek Culture In The Epic Of Ancient Greece Every culture is defined by its values and traditions. The Ancient Greek culture served as a structure for many aspects of Western Civilization. A remarkable civilization thrived in Greece. The period of Greece was an incredible time for achievements and findings in literature, art, language, science, and others. Its people created the first democratic government, the first Olympic Games, and they made significant benefactions to architecture. FINISH Indeed, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, personifies the value of intelligence herself and appreciates it very much in humans, like Odysseus and Telemachus. In the epic of The Odyssey, Odysseus, a brilliant Greek warrior fighting in the Trojan War, has tried countless times to return home, but because he offended Poseidon, the god of the sea, Odysseus has been held confined. With Odysseus being held captive, many men have tried to take over his kingdom. It is then that Athena decided to help recreate wisdom and trust among Odysseus son; she went to restore the young man s confidence (The Odyssey, 2). For this reason, Athena is a goddess who is bright, self assured, and realistic, all of which she finds in Odysseus son Telemachus. She goes on to say, and assure you that he will not be away much longer; for he is a man of such resource that even though he were in chains of iron he would find some means of getting home again (The Odyssey, 2). He must of been a great military commander to earn achievement. His military process is what got him his first consulship. Plutarch describes how his name and reputation spread through Africa and he also notes Marius display of consummate courage (Plutarch Marius 7) Your name and reputation don t spread for no reason; Marius must have had excelled in the qualities most sought after in regard to war. Plutarch says how he showed the he was: capable of going through what the soldiers injured, his foresight. The former gave him considerable affection and loyalty from the troops , this loyalty lead to the soldiers writing back to Rome, stating that The African war could only be won if Marius was elected consol (Plutarch Marius 7) This shows that Marius must have excelled hugely at military process. The Scipio Epitaph s list the father and offices the father held and military successes. This must have been a compelling argument to the Romans. Plutarch notes how Metellus was visually displeased about this (Plutrach Marius 8) Giving us further evidence to how people felt about new men. He had to quickly get back to Rome. With his first consulship he enrolled a large number of paupers, and slaves into the army (PLutrach Marius 9). This action is unpreceded and must have annoyed some. This shows that he thought of new ways to use the Roman armies. Which was basically taking the poor and training them. That training would appear to pay off. He got a triumph. It must have been quite a shock to the Romans in some ways that a new man who becomes consol comes into Rome celebrating a triumph. Q.Metelleus told Marius that he d support Marius being consol with his son. An insult of sorts since Marius already 49 and that son about fifteen years younger than him. • 9. Why Is Santa Clause Wrong Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach children myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child s baby but both we and the child know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong. Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child parent relation that some lies are OK, or even good , and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents ourselves? ... Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the year, but Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we know they will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use Santa Claus as a middleman, how is this teaching children the gift of giving ? Or that we take time to think of them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling attached to the present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. This short quote is taken from Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz . He had nothing except for life, something most people who walked through the front gates of Auschwitz lost. Jesus Christ lived a similar life many, many years before. He lived his young adulthood life teaching the people of the world about God and humanity. He cherished his life and the life of others. He respected all living things and tried to help them live a non sinful life. He too was deprived of things near the end of his life. Like Primo, Jesus was convicted of what he thought and spoke of and was killed. The main difference between the two men is that Jesus lost his life. Jesus though had a second chance as he was later resurrected from hell and brought into heaven. There he again helped the people of the world. Furthermore, both of these men were convicted of religious believes and ripped away of their lives. Even though Primo died many years after his stay at Auschwitz, he was never the same before that. He will be a man whose life and death can be lightly decided with no sense of human affinity, in the most fortunate of cases, on the basis of a pure judgment of utility. Joshua was a man that knew God and dedicated himself to serving Him. Joshua single handedly led the children of Israel to conquer the Promised Land, and he certainly displayed the power of God through his life. Most importantly, however, is the truth that Israel was a theocracy, in that it followed the One True God. God gave His instruction to Joshua, and Joshua passed on this instruction to the people. They, in turn, were not receiving their commands and instructions from a man, such as the heathen nations of the day. Instead, they were led by a God that had chosen them and cared for them ever since they left the land of Egypt. The reason that they were able to prosper and succeed is that God was their official leader. The book of Judges, however, describes this same nation s government very differently. After settling into the Promised Land, Israel s form of government seemed to become extremely disorganized. Despite the fact that God had given them clear laws and guidelines for social order, these people seemed to be very dysfunctional in their ability to follow a clear pattern like they had done in the book of Joshua. This was largely due to their reputation of having a variety of leaders. None of the judges led the people at one time; however, none of them led for a particularly long period of time. Their cycles of captivity and repatriation resulted in many different people coming into power at different times. Surely, a revolving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Role Of Male As Breadwinner On The Workplace The term work/life Balance has evolved around the idea of balancing work, life and family responsibilities in 1986 in USA. The concepts of work/life balance, work/family balance, work/life conflict, work/family conflict have gained prominence in the recent years due to the changes in the society and the workplace. The role of male as breadwinner is no longer relevant as more and more women are coming out to work and support the family in the best possible way(Charlesworth et al, Rajadhyaksha and Bhatnagar, 2000). With workplaces becoming more gender balanced (Bardeol et al, 2000), the degendered workplace, equally cohabited by men and women (Zetlin and Whitehouse, 1998), is exploring Work/life Balance and Work/life Conflict as conditions equally applicable to both men and women. The term has three important components work , life and balance . In simple terms, work is normally conceived of in this context as including paid employment while life includes activities outside work. According to Skinner and Pocock (2008), life activities outside the domain of paid work include, family, friends and community, thus, subsuming family issues. The term balance too, lends itself to a variety of meanings. Clark (2000) defines balance as satisfaction and good functioning at work and at home with a minimum of role conflict . How Did Beethoven Change Music Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed music by creating a new era called Romanticism, influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist. If he changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind. Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. The 2005 Gallup poll concluded that 36 percent of the polling group revealed their concerns about terrorism in the United States. This percentage of people pales in comparison to the 66 percent, who were very concerned about sexual offenders (Yoder). As far back as the late 1940 s, states such as California have implemented sex offender registries. With this fact present, statistically each registered resident of California would had to have searched for the website about 5 times independently. These statistics seem to support that the people use these websites for purposes they were not made for. An example of misuse of the sex offender registry was in the case of a sex offender named Jeff (not his real name) who was assaulted by his former friend who found him on the registry. Jeff s friend decided to bring two bikers to come and abuse Jeff (Yoder). This specific incident is not isolated, but is widespread. A recent study found that the overwhelming majority of respondents [sex offenders] reported that they had experience significant levels of harassment as a result of having to publicly register as sex offenders (Worley and Worley 342). The public registry allows for the sexual offender to be ridiculed and assaulted even after their determined sentenced time for their misconduct is over. An even more surprising study done by Caputo, Caputo and Brodsky, Zevitz et al., and Zevitz claimed that notification [in the way of sex offender information online] can increase anxiety [to the public] (Levenson et al. 589). The public registry is now failing at what it was made to do, make the public have a sense of security. Even though free trade was allowed between the two nations and tensions were at a low, Britain used Ireland as a sort of waste land for its surplus of resources. When industrialization began to play a huge factor in British success, it ended famous Irish linen and wool services putting many out of work. When the British conducted the Poor Enquiry survey in 1835, it concluded up to 75% of Irish were out of work and this needed to change. Under intense pressure from English Reformists, the British government enacted the Poor Law Act of 1838 in which Ireland was subsided into 130 unions (essentially counties) in which there was a board of director for each with tax payers, government officials, and the hard working class (men, women and children ... • 31. College Degree In College Did you know, high school graduates with no college degree make nearly $530 a week less than those with a Bachelor s degree? (BLS, 2016). Continuing your education not only means making more money, but it provides you with better opportunities in your general life. Although college can be expensive and stressful, it is rewarding. Spending an additional 2 4 years in college will make the rest of your life much better than without it. Nelson Mandela once said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world ( BrainyQuotes, n.d. ), and I agree. With knowledge, anything is possible for you to achieve. The more education you have, the more opportunities will find you. I want my children to further their education past high school, whether it will be a college degree or a certificate from a technical school. My mother went back to school in her 30 s so that we could have a better life and not have to continue living in poverty. She quit her job at the time and went to college fulltime to become a Registered Nurse. It wasn t always easy while she was in school, money was even tighter than before, but once she graduated, things changed. We finally had financial stability and structure we always wanted. So I set my goal and I have almost achieve it. I will be getting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. What Are Hamstring Strains Have Been One Of The Most... Hamstring strains have been one of the most common injuries around the world. Unfortunately, there has been a limited amount of success reducing the rate of this injury (Schmit, 2012). Although many researchers and doctors have studied the cause of hamstring strains, there are still many theories as to why they occur. One theory includes that there is an imbalance between the medial and lateral hamstring muscle that leads to hamstring muscle fatigue (Prentice, 2015). Hamstring strains are painful and prevalent in different types of activities. Most commonly these strains can be found in athletes that engage in running, skating, jumping sliding, kicking, and quick/fast motions (Valle, 2015). A hamstring is comprised of a group of three muscles that can be found along the back of the thigh. These muscles allow the range of motion at the knee, which gives the ability to bend the leg. The three hamstring muscles include semitendinosus, semimbranosus, and biceps femoris. The hamstrings work concentrically to flex the knee, extend the hip, and rotate the tibia (Prentice, 2015). These muscles begin at the ischial tuberosity, which is at the bottom of the pelvis. The muscles meet at the knee joint and end at the lower leg, where they are joined together through connective tissue that attach the tendons to the bones like double sided tape. The hamstring muscle groups work to help extend the leg back and provide motion at the knee. Due to the crossing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Don t even bother Kyle, that thing won t kill you. Grinning cockily, I patiently wait for it to go off. Then, it clicks, but instead of a loud boom, it releases some kind of gas into the air. They no longer raised sheep or livestock, instead thousands of Navajo people went off to find wage labor to supplement their income instead. The tribal council industrialized itself. (Lee, 2007) In the 1970 s the Navajo nation was reorganized and the reservation had someone in control of the nation. Peter MacDonald was elected chairman of the council and made new powers direct the Navajo government. In 1998 the tribal council passed a Navajo Nation Local Governance Act that allowed local matters to be made by local level people, allowing more local authority. The current government structure is now an agency to the Navajo society, yet it is non Navajo nature, and the people of Navajo have never sanctioned it. Today the Navajo Nation doesn t have the self sufficient powers it once did. Congress and US Supreme courts have limited the powers of the tribal government. .
