- In 2014 at EMC World, Spanning had a booth and twice I spoke with Backup administrators and asked, “Do you have Salesforce?” … “Yes” …. “How are you backing it up?” …. “I don’t know, not my problem.” …. Not your problem?!

- Given the risk of SaaS data loss, it is no surprise that organizations that are defining best practices for IT compliance are starting to jump into the fray. COBIT, whose compliance requirements demand that on-premises data can be both backed up and restored, is now requiring that same thing of SaaS application data. It’s not enough to just keep a separate copy of your data somewhere, you need to actually be able to easily restore it as well. This is a requirement to ensure that IT systems can support the continued operation of the business. As was stated so well by Jeremy Burton, President for Products and Marketing at EMC during the announcement of the Spanning acquisition, “You are the Chief Information Officer, not the Chief on-premises Information Officer.” Your responsibilities for SaaS data are the same as for on-premises data. Protection of that data requires careful consideration.
- Spanning Backup for Office 365 will offers similar capabilities as Spanning Backup for Google Apps. Spanning Backup for O365 is a fully responsive design, which ensures that the application works well on any device format, including desktop, tablet or mobile.
- Spanning Backup for Office 365 delivers automated daily and on-demand backup for Office Mail, People and Calendar (**People and Calendar releases in 2H15). All backed up data is recoverable from any point-in-time, enabling administrators and end users to easily go back to any date in the past and restore data exactly as it was, including all metadata like folder structure, categories, etc. Restoring previous versions of existing data is a common need. Often customers focus on ensuring they never lose data related to deleted data, however, data is often lost in SaaS applications due to mistakes, malicious behavior and synchronization problems that change data.
