2. Spain Square (Plaza de España) is a large square, and popular tourist destination, located in
central Madrid, at the western end of the Gran Vía Street. It features a monument to Miguel de
Cervantes Saavedra, and is bordered by two of Madrid's most prominent skyscrapers.

Cervantes Monument
In the center of the plaza is a monument to
Spanish novelist, poet and playwright
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra , designed
by architects Rafael Martínez Zapatero and
Pedro Muguruza and sculptor Lorenzo
Coullaut Valera. Most of the monument was
built between 1925 and 1930. It was
finished between 1956 and 1957 by
Federico Coullaut-Valera Mendigutia , the
son of the original sculptor.
The tower portion of the monument includes
a stone sculpture of Cervantes, which
overlooks bronze sculptures of Don Quixote
and Sancho Panza.

19. Prado Museum (The Museo del Prado) is the main Spanish national art museum ,
located in central Madrid. It features one of the world's finest collections of European
art, dating from the 12th century to the early 19th century, based on the former
Spanish Royal Collection, and unquestionably the best single collection of Spanish
art . Founded as a museum of paintings and sculpture in 1819, it also contains
important collections of other types of works.

El Prado is one of the most visited sites in the world, and is considered one the
greatest museums of art in the world. The numerous works by Francisco de Goya,
the single most extensively represented artist, as well as by Diego Velázquez , El
Greco , Titian , Peter Paul Rubens and Hieronymus Bosch are some of the
highlights of the collection. The collection currently comprises around 7,600
paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings, in addition to a large
number of other works of art and historic documents.
普拉多是世界上訪問人數最多的地點之一，也是世界上最偉大的藝術博物館之一。作

Charles IV of Spain and His Family is an oil on canvas painting by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya who
began work on this painting in 1800 and completed it in the summer of 1801. It features life sized depictions of
Charles IV of Spain and his family, ostentatiously dressed in fine costume and jewelry

The royal family is apparently paying a visit to the artist's studio, while Goya can be seen to the left looking

rear is visible. The painter in the shadow of the wings, with a grim smile, points and says: 'Look at them and
judge for yourself!'

clothed (La maja vestida). I had thought that they were the same figure with clothes
painted on one but they are not an exact match. Although the canvases are the
same size (38 x 75 inches) the nude figure is smaller.

Isabelline Gothic, but has undergone a
series of additions and changes over
the centuries so that it now displays a
mixture of architectural styles. For some
time it was the official Royal Church.
