Integrated English /Astronomy practice for secondary school students ( 8th - 10th grade)
Theme of the lesson: Space
 Lead in : 3- 4 minutes
 Put the students into groups of 2-3. Ask them to brainstorm vocabularybarund the the
theme space and write it down.
 Ask them to swap their pieces of paper with another group. If there are ny words which
they do not know, they can ask the other group to explain.
 Finally they can compare their vocabulary lists with the words in exercise 1.
 Students work individually, using dictionary to check words they don‘t know. ( ex.1)
 In a weaker class, write the words from the box on the board in 4 groups corresponding with gaps
1-5, 6-10, 11-15 and 16-20. Make sure the words in the board are not in the same order as the
gaps. To save time, put students in 4 groups and ask each other to complete a quarter of the gaps.
Allow students to compare answers before checking with whole class.
 Divide students into an even number of groups. Focus on the instructions and then give students 2-
3 min. to write their questions. Monitor as they do this, making sure that they are coming up with a
variety of questions.
 Divide class into 2 teams A and B. Allocate the number to each group within Team A and the same
numbers to the team B. For example, team A has group 1,2 and 3. Team B also has group 1,2,3.
 Randomly call out the numbers. For example‘ group 2‘ and a student from the group reads out one
of their questions for group 2on the opposing team.
 If your class is small enough you could allocate number to individual students , call out the number
and one student asks a queston to one student . Keep o note score on the board.
Lesson outcome:
Ask students : what have you learned today? What can you do now?
Example: I can talk about the topic space, I can use phrases to introduce my opinion.
Exercises and actitvities
Exercise 1: Complete the timeline with the words in the box. You may have to change the form of
