SE Michigan Geographic School Information:
• 94 PK-12 school districts, 1,471 public schools with 748,461 students, and
approximately 32,500 PK-12 teachers (average ratio of 18-– 35:1)
• 104,038 students are enrolled CTE programs statewide equaling 22% of high school
population. The average completion rate is 33% statewide.
• There are 23 early college programs within CTE statewide with 7,870 students
enrolled
• 112,018 (7%) student are home-schooled
• The region hosts six Michigan Math and Science Centers serving the professional
development and resources needs of public education

General Regional Demographics:
• Approximately 48% of the state population resides in this region.
• Includes urban, suburban, and rural areas.
• Is served by a common economic development agency, Automation Alley. Automation
Alley is one of Michigan’s 17 SmartZones and functions as the primary economic
incubator/accelerator.
• Includes 2 college-based centers for advanced automotive technology and a university-
based hub for advanced mobility technology
• Is home to 11 fortune 500 companies, and has averaged over 65,000 new jobs each of the
past 4 years.
• 1.4 million jobs expected in the U.S in connected technologies by 2020. Michigan is
expected to have 20% of these jobs in mobility/auto, healthcare, general manufacturing,
cyber security and other industries.
