4. Types of Sources
Historians use primary, secondary and
oral sources to examine, describe and
record various aspects of events,
culture and communication.
In history, primary sources are original
documents and objects that were
created at the time being studied.
5. Sources
It provides direct or firsthand evidence
about an event, object or work of art.
Examples include: historical and legal
documents, eyewitness accounts,
results of experiments, statistical data,
pieces of creative writing, speeches, art
objects and audio and video recording.
6. Sources
Secondary Sources can be defined as
documents or objects that were created
after the event or period has passes; for
example textbooks, articles in
newspaper or popular magazines, book
and movie reviews or articles found in
scholarly journals that discuss or
evaluate someone else’s original
research.
7. Sources
Oral sources describe events that were
recorded by audio files, videotapes or
transcriptions of planned interviews.
It is important to use various data
gathering techniques as one source

more than source is used, the
information collected is more accurate.
