3. FACTS ABOUT CHINA
• Beijing is the capital of China. It was the
site of the summer Olympic games in 2008
• They once were colonized by Japan during
WW2
• It was once a communist country and
citizens were only allowed to have one
child per family.
4. LOCATION OF CHINA
• Located in Southeast Asia along the coastline of the
Pacific Ocean, China is the world's third largest
country, after Russia and Canada.
• With an area of 9.6 million square kilometers and a
coastline of 18,000 kilometers, its shape on the map
is like a rooster.
5. BORDERS
• China is bordered by 14 countries –
• Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Burma,
• India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan,
• Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakstan, Mongolia,
and Russia.
• Marine-side neighbors include eight countries --
North Korea, Korea, Japan, Philippines,
Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
6. THE RIVERS
• China is surrounded by deserts and
mountains.
• These act as natural barriers, separating
China from the rest of the world.
• China has two major river systems that
provided fertile soil and safe drinking
water.

• China has numerous rivers and lakes.
• The Yangtze , the longest in China and even in Asia, is the
third-longest in the world.
• The Huang He (Yellow River), 'Mother River of the Chinese
People', is just behind the Yangtze, both flowing into the
Pacific Ocean.
• The early people called the rivers in China "The Great
Sorrow“ because each spring the rivers would overflow their
banks.

9. THE RIVERS
• The Yangtze River had high banks which kept the homes
built on high ground safe. But not all homes were built on
high ground.
• The other major river system, the Huang He (the Yellow
River), has low banks. Some early people built homes on
stilts, to try and keep their homes safe during the flooding
season.
• It was not until the early engineers of ancient China
learned the techniques of flood control that the homes
along the Yellow River survived more than one season

16. YELLOW SEA
• The Yellow Sea is the name given to the
northern part of the East China Sea, which is
a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean.
• It is located west of South Korea
17. GOBI DESERT
• The Gobi Desert is a vast, arid region in
northern China and southern Mongolia.
It's known for its dunes, mountains and
rare animals like snow leopards and
Bactrian camels.
18. TAKLIMAKAN DESERT
• The Taklimakan Desert (also
Taklamakan) is a desert of Central Asia
• It is known as one of the largest sandy
deserts in the world.
