INTRODUCTION
Solar bicycle also known as
solar e-bike is an electric
bicycle with an electric
motor which is driven by
the use of power from the
battery which is being
changed using solar energy
by solar panels.
Photovoltaic (PV) cells
contained in solar panels
convert the sun’s energy
directly into electric energy are
used.
OBJECTIVES
In human
transportation
as a
personalized
vehicle.
For inter
departmental
transportation
in huge
campuses.
In industries
for different
level personnel
to move
around to
inspect the
work
progress.
Light weight &
easy to control,
makes
convenient for
Controlled
speed ensures
rider’s safety.
Can be used by
old aged
demography.
METHODOLOGY
Connection
of dc motor.
Welding to
join the
freewheel to
DC motor
shaft.
All the
fabricated
parts were
assembled.
The throttle
fitted on the
handle.
Installation
of solar
panels on
the carrier.
Electrical
connections
to the parts.

• To run the bicycle and to reduce the human efforts the
bicycle was applied with an electric DC motor.
CHAIN DRIVE SYSTEM
• The motor was connected to the rear
axle of the bicycle by using the chain
drive system in which the motor was
fitted with a bearing that could
connect with the real axle using a
chain .

• The panels were used to charge the batteries for
further use in the future.
BATTERY
• Batteries used in our project is lead acid type because they
have good life, requires less maintenance and have high
efficiency.
CONNECTION OF COMPONENTS
LIFE PERIOD
The majority of
manufacturers offer
the 25-year
standard solar
panel warranty, which
means that power
output should not be
less than 80% of
rated power after 25
year.
The rated power
output of solar
panels typically
degrades at about
0.5%/year.
The Maintenance of
the batteries is after
2 years.
PROBLEMS AROUSED AND
SOLUTIONS
MOTOR AXIS ALLIGNMENT
The axis of motor’s freewheel and
freewheel of rear wheel was difficult
to make on a straight line. The motor
was fitted with a bearing and the
real axle with the sprocket and were
joined with a chain drive system.
MATERIAL SELECTION FOR LINKS
The material selection for the linkages for
assembly of the battery was very
important as the weight of bicycle was a
main concern for us. Therefore, a
welding arrangement was made for the
battery and it was placed on the middle to
distribute the weight.
FUTURE ASPECTS
USE OF FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANEL
• THE FLEXIBLE E SOLAR PANELS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET. FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANELS CAN
BE VERY SUITABLE FOR THE PROJECT AS THESE CAN BE USED AS A SOLAR COAT FOR THE DRIVER.
SOLAR PANEL ON THE WHEEL RIM
• IF THE SOLAR PANEL GETS FITTED ONTO THE WHEEL RIM THEN IT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR OUR
PROJECT BECAUSE OF THEIR EASE IN BALANCING AND GOOD LOOKING DESIGN. AS SHOWN IN THE
FIGURE THE SOLAR PANEL CAN BE FITTED ONTO THE RIM WITHOUT USING EXTRA SPACE FOR THE
SOLAR PANELS.

CONCLUSION
It is very much suitable for young, aged,
handicap people and caters the need of
economically poor class of society.
Its cleaner and you never have to buy gas
or change the oil. Thus leading to a
pollution free environment.
This bicycle is cheaper, simpler in
construction & can be widely used for
short distance travelling .
The most important feature of this bicycle
is that it does not consume valuable fossil
fuels thereby saving crores of foreign
currencies.
It is eco-friendly & pollution free, as it does not
have any emissions.

INTRODUCTION Solar bicycle also known as solar e-bike is an electric bicycle with an electric motor which is driven by the use of power from the battery which is being changed using solar energy by solar panels. Photovoltaic (PV) cells contained in solar panels convert the sun’s energy directly into electric energy are used.
  • 4. OBJECTIVES In human transportation as a personalized vehicle. For inter departmental transportation in huge campuses. In industries for different level personnel to move around to inspect the work progress. Light weight & easy to control, makes convenient for Controlled speed ensures rider’s safety. Can be used by old aged demography.
  • 5. METHODOLOGY Connection of dc motor. Welding to join the freewheel to DC motor shaft. All the fabricated parts were assembled. The throttle fitted on the handle. Installation of solar panels on the carrier. Electrical connections to the parts.

  • 7. CHAIN DRIVE SYSTEM • The motor was connected to the rear axle of the bicycle by using the chain drive system in which the motor was fitted with a bearing that could connect with the real axle using a chain .

  • 9. BATTERY • Batteries used in our project is lead acid type because they have good life, requires less maintenance and have high efficiency.
  • 11. LIFE PERIOD The majority of manufacturers offer the 25-year standard solar panel warranty, which means that power output should not be less than 80% of rated power after 25 year. The rated power output of solar panels typically degrades at about 0.5%/year. The Maintenance of the batteries is after 2 years.
  • 12. PROBLEMS AROUSED AND SOLUTIONS MOTOR AXIS ALLIGNMENT The axis of motor’s freewheel and freewheel of rear wheel was difficult to make on a straight line. The motor was fitted with a bearing and the real axle with the sprocket and were joined with a chain drive system. MATERIAL SELECTION FOR LINKS The material selection for the linkages for assembly of the battery was very important as the weight of bicycle was a main concern for us. Therefore, a welding arrangement was made for the battery and it was placed on the middle to distribute the weight.
  • 13. FUTURE ASPECTS USE OF FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANEL • THE FLEXIBLE E SOLAR PANELS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET. FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANELS CAN BE VERY SUITABLE FOR THE PROJECT AS THESE CAN BE USED AS A SOLAR COAT FOR THE DRIVER. SOLAR PANEL ON THE WHEEL RIM • IF THE SOLAR PANEL GETS FITTED ONTO THE WHEEL RIM THEN IT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR OUR PROJECT BECAUSE OF THEIR EASE IN BALANCING AND GOOD LOOKING DESIGN. AS SHOWN IN THE FIGURE THE SOLAR PANEL CAN BE FITTED ONTO THE RIM WITHOUT USING EXTRA SPACE FOR THE SOLAR PANELS.
  • 16. CONCLUSION It is very much suitable for young, aged, handicap people and caters the need of economically poor class of society. Its cleaner and you never have to buy gas or change the oil. Thus leading to a pollution free environment. This bicycle is cheaper, simpler in construction & can be widely used for short distance travelling . The most important feature of this bicycle is that it does not consume valuable fossil fuels thereby saving crores of foreign currencies. It is eco-friendly & pollution free, as it does not have any emissions.
