The students planted bean seeds both horizontally and vertically to test their hypothesis that seeds would germinate either way and receive the same nutrients. They observed the seeds over 14 days. The vertically planted seed germinated faster, developed more roots faster, and grew its stem faster than the horizontally planted seed, disproving their hypothesis that orientation did not matter. The experiment showed that seeds germinate better when planted vertically.
