Soft tissue tumors can be identified on radiography. Masses in the hands and feet are more likely to be benign, while those in the thigh, calf and arm indicate a higher likelihood of malignancy. Radiography can detect fat-containing masses, foreign bodies like glass and metal, and mineralization which occurs in 17% of soft tissue tumors and is a hallmark of venous malformations. Calcification patterns can also provide clues about tumor type.
