Most large, global companies use social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and blogs. Around 79% of companies in the Fortune Global 500 index have a presence on at least one major social media platform. Twitter is the most popular among these companies, with 65% having a Twitter account. Over half also use Facebook and YouTube. Social media is also growing significantly in Oman, with over 230,000 people using online forums and 81% of Facebook users between ages 18-44. Companies should consider using social media to compete globally, build their brand, understand customers, create buzz, and manage their reputation in this increasingly important online space.
