This document discusses using social media tools to enhance online and hybrid teaching. It defines different levels of online teaching from totally online to web-enhanced. It then lists some common social media tools and their benefits for teaching including openness, synchronization, social presence, immediate response, personalization, participation, transparency and community building. Finally, it provides some examples of how to incorporate specific social media tools like blogs, wikis and discussion boards to increase time on task, social interaction, assessment, teaching presence and personalization in online and hybrid courses.
