What is social media?
Social media is combination of two words:
•Social : refers to interacting with other people by sharing
information with them and receiving information from them.
•Media: refers to an instrument of communication, like the
internet (while TV, radio and newspapers are examples of
more traditional forms of media)
•Social media are web-based communication tools that enable
people to interact with each other by both sharing and
consuming information

According to NOREF (Norwegian peace building resource
centre) Report (2012) It identifies five ways in which Pakistan’s
social media act as communication tools:

traditional media.
2. play a mobilization role by disseminating information
about protests and other social campaigns.
3. promote humanitarian efforts by co-coordinating and
advertising initiatives
4. serve as advocates for social causes
5. stimulate communication between politicians and their
constituents

With the growth of social media being used for different

or whomever to post something to do with their candidate, to
inform voters in a different way. It doesn’t have to be through the
television or in a flyer.
Potential voters will see the posts, or tweets, or ads and then may
learn more about this person.
They can also find out specific information regarding this candidate much easy
than perhaps watching a long speech to find out basic information, especially since
a twitter will be easier to stay up to date with and be more likely to receive more
