Reflections on social media use
Who am I?
• My name is Abby.
• I have a Bachelor of Media
Communications (CSU)
• I work for a not-for-profit
organisation in a
communications role
• I love all things photography!
Personally I use …
• Facebook – I find it a useful resource to keep in touch
with family who live some distance away
• Wordpress – I have a blog that I write about the
struggles I face with a mental illness
• Pinterest – This is a guilty pleasure and I can spend
hours looking at things I’d like to make but will absolutely
never make!
Professionally I use …
• Facebook – I manage my workplace Facebook page
• Twitter – I also manage the Twitter page for work
• I am relatively new to the role and wish to expand our
digital footprint though
A challenge I have encountered
when starting my new role …
The organisation I work for was using a consultancy company
prior to my employment.
The consultancy company was not receiving statistics that
indicated much growth or engagement.
I attributed this to the fact that anything put onto Facebook
was put on Twitter despite people using these applications
very differently.
We had fatigued our audience so I used fresh content,
unlinked Facebook and Twitter. From these changes we have
seen large growth in our numbers and more participation
from our followers.
