A2 Media Coursework Evaluation Local Newspaper
3.What have you learned from your audience feedback?
To find out how well I achieved my goals in my creation of my local newspaper I set out to gain audience feedback on my work. I did this because I wanted to know if I had done enough to make my newspaper appealing for the bracket of people that my paper is aimed at.
The two main ways that I managed to get audience feedback was by using two social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook I set up firstly a group for feedback on my work and secondly an official page for my paper. I also set up a Twitter feed for my newspaper which will give the audience a whole new way of getting involved with my newspaper.
Facebook Feedback From looking at the feedback that I received from the Facebook group that I set up, the comments helped me gain a better understanding of what the audience thought of my newspaper. The main thoughts that came back to me were about the front cover. The feedback for this was mainly positive but some said they would have wanted another small story on the front. I incorporated this by adding another story.
Facebook Feedback Other comments from people were that they liked the masthead and thought that it was done in a similar style to other newspapers. The story on the inside page interested the audience as well and would have made them want to carry on reading the paper. A majority of the audience that were asked liked the poster but some said they preferred to have a coloured background. Finally, from looking at all the work that I produced nearly all of the people said they would visit the website to get more news stories.
The audience feedback did play a part in the way I set about creating my newspaper, it also changed my approach to my work as well. I tried to incorporate the comments that I got from the audience as much as possible as these people are from the area at which my newspaper is targeting. A couple of examples of when I took on board the audience feedback was firstly the addition of a coloured back ground to my poster and secondly before I started I asked whether I feature a positive or negative story on the front. The verdict was positive and that’s what I went with.
4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Throughout the whole of this project I have used a wide range of new media technologies whether it be programs such as InDesign or website’s such as Prezi. The incorporated all of these innovative forms of media in the following parts of my work: In Research In Construction In Planning In Evaluation
In Research During the research phase of my newspaper I used a variety of different ways to gain a better understanding of the world of newspapers. The media technologies that I used were: The News Website The News itself
In Construction The construction of my newspaper was the main part of this task. The two main programs that were used in the creation of my product were InDesign & Photoshop. These were best two ways to create a professional looking newspaper. I used iWeb to create my website. And obviously I used a digital camera to take pictures.
In Construction My photos for my product were taken with the use of a digital camera, then transferred to my college account through e-mail. I used InDesgin to create my newspaper front cover, inside page and poster. Photoshop was used to edit images that were used for adverts that would go on my front cover. I used iWeb to create my newspaper’s website that would be featured on the Intranet.
In Planning During the planning process of my coursework I mainly used my blog as the place to plan out my work, I used Blogger to put my work on. I felt like this was the best way to plan what I was going to do for my work as I could gain feedback on my blog and what I was going to do. I also created flatplan’s or mock-up’s of my work by using Word and InDesign.
In Evaluation For the evaluation stage of this project I mainly used Facebook to gain audience feedback on my work. I did by creating two pages, the first being a group primarily for feedback with a questionnaire included and the second was a fan page that would give my newspaper a new way of being advertise and to make my new new publication seem more realistic.
Other new media technologies I used were: Twitter – to give my publication another way of interacting with the audience Flickr – To put all the images that I took and my work on one photostream Slideshare – To host my presentations of my images etc. Prezi – To create the first part of Evaluation
By using all of these different forms of new media technologies I was able to successfully plan, construct and evaluate my local newspaper fully and precisely. I was also able to create a professional looking newspaper (front cover and inside page) plus a poster and a website. I feel that used different programs well to improve the level of work that I created.
