As a research from International Journal of Business and Management about a company stopped its
automatic salary increments says that the employees of the company were not happy with that
scheme and the company tries to give training to them about that bonus scheme. So the company
ordered all the HODs (Head of Departments) to educate their respective departments on the benefits
of the new bonus scheme. After the training those employees get enough education about the new
bonus system and they agreed to the new system. And they were motivated to work harder
(Akinlolu Ayodeji Agboola amp; Rafiu Oyesola Salawu 2011).
Participation can be used to satisfy the workers, as when workers are participated and involved
in decision making process then they will have understanding that the organization needs them
and value their work. If the people actively participate they will be more likely to feel ownership
of the change and will be less likely to resist. When the employees are involved and participated in
planning and implementing the change process will have better understanding towards the
changes. Participation of managers and employees to the change approach will be able to manage
resistance to change quicker (Rosemond Boohene amp; Asamoah Appiah Williams 2012). When
employees are involved in the change effort they are more likely to buy into change rather than
resist it. This approach is likely to lower resistance

The Outcasts Of Poker Flat

about the Calif. gold rush. Some of his short stories are The Luck of Roaring Camp , The
Outcast of Poker Flat , and Tennessee Partner . Francis Brett Harte know as Bret Harte was born
in Albany, N.Y. in 1837 and died in 1902. He had a somewhat sketchy education in the East

Sonnet 43
Sonnet 43 (Sonnets From the Portuguese) BY Elizabeth Barrett Browning How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when
feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right; I love thee
purely, as they turn from praise, I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with
my childhood s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints I love thee with
the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.

other hand, as she moves on in the poem, and her voice gets more and more passionate as she
continues to develop her list of ways she loves her husband, she builds each line s rhythm to
match this mood. By the time we reach the final stanza, her lines find a rhythm of their own,
almost completely ignoring traditional form WITH my LOST SAINTS I LOVE THEE with the
BREATH,/SMILES, TEARS of ALL my LIFE! Another set structure for sonnets is how each line
ends. Traditionally, each line ends with punctuation, a period, comma or otherwise to create a
pause and contain a complete thought. Lines which end this way are called end stopped. Reading
through Sonnet 43 , we notice that five of the 14 lines do not end with a set pause; rather, they are
enjambed. Enjambed means to carry over; this term describes how one line flows into the next
without hesitation. To try to understand what Barrett Browning s intentions might be for this move
away from traditional form, it is useful again to notice what the mood of the poem is where she
breaks the rules. In the first stanza, as she begins to count the ways, the ways she

To eat beans today and steak tomorrow, or eat steak today and eat bean for the rest of your life is
an amazing quote to live by, but can also be detrimental, as well. Many people of all ages, not only
the newer generations, have become used to fast service and instant gratification; therefore, many
people become impatient when even their coffee does not come out in two minutes. For the most

Everyone Need Social Justice
According to John F Kennedy, All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an
equal opportunity to develop our talent. Social justice is access to all things in our life, no matter
our talents, our beliefs, morals and goals. According to Google, social justice is justice in terms of
terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society. Everyone needs
social justicein their life because everyone should be treated equal because everyone is unique in
their own way. Not everyone is getting social justicein terms of education because of crumbling
school systems, low income and rising college costs.
First of all, rising college costs is one of the major causes for why people are not getting equal ...

According to the Department Of Education, Members of low income families are much less
prepared for college than their higher income counterparts. For example, among high school
graduates in 1992, only 21 percent of those with family incomes of less than $25,000 were
highly qualified for admission at a four year institution, and 20 percent were minimally
qualified. For students with family incomes above $75,000, 56 percent were highly qualified
and 12 percent minimally qualified (Department of Education). Even though this was 26 years
ago, the numbers are still rising. This is stating that the lower the family s income, the less
prepared their child is to enter college and the higher the family s income, the more prepared
their child is for college. According to the NY Times, One reason for the growing gap in
achievement, researchers say, could be that wealthy parents invest more time and money than ever
before in their children (in weekend sports, ballet, music lessons, math tutors, and in overall
involvement in their children s schools), while lower income families, which are now more likely
than ever to be headed by a single parent, are increasingly stretched for time and resources
(Tavernise). This is stating that higher income families that are more involved in their child s
school, will be more prepared and get more education than

Discuss the Relationship Between Sexual Selection and...
There are many theories that try to explain relationships between sexual selection and human
reproductive behaviour. Evolutionary theory is one such theory. There are many different species
in the world which, according to Darwin, all came from one source, e.g. a bacteria or organism.
Within each species, natural variation occurs, therefore the individual beings within the specie look
different from one another. These differences are caused by genetic makeup (50% from your mum,
50% from your dad). There are some genes like down syndrome that get switched on when
combined with other genes. Some genes can also undergo mutation a random change (e.g. being
born with six fingers, instead of five). Most mutations are harmful, for example... Show more

In another study, Langlois and Roggaman (1990) took photos of faces and morphed them
together to produce composite images made up of 4, 8, 16 or 32 images. Participants rated faces
as increasingly attractive the more faces that went into each image; this applied to both male and
female faces. The more faces in an image, the more symmetrical they become, it seems that
moving a facial image closer to the average increases its perceived attractiveness. It is likely that
symmetry equates to fitness and good genes , these people are less likely to have been affected by
harmful mutation. People with attractive faces are preferred because of the benefits of passing on
these attractive characteristics to offspring. Little Hancock propose that humans have evolved to be
attracted to symmetrical faces because they indicate averageness , which equates to genetic health.
Grammar and Thornhill (1994) found that females are attracted to males with masculine
characteristics, for example: large jaw and prominent cheekbones. These features arise as a result of
testosterone, which is also a handicap because it suppresses the immune system. Therefore,
showing only healthy individuals can afford to produce these traits advertising a strong immune
system. Cartwright (2000) supported this, finding men prefer photographs of women with
symmetrical faces and vice versa. Body to hip ratio are indicators of genetic fitness; they form

Jfk Assassination Theories
And just as the president got straight in front of us... the third shot rang out. And I can
remember seeing the side of President Kennedy s head come off ( The Sixth Floor Museum at
Dealey Plaza 27). On November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and since
that day people have debated who actually killed him. There are many theories on how he was
killed and who killed John F. Kennedy, the many theories are the lone assassin theory that the
Warren Commission used stating that Lee Harvey Oswaldwas the only shooter and he killed John F.
Kennedy there are theories that claim the Mafia had John F. Kennedy killed, and there are theories
that the CIA had John F. Kennedy killed.

The CIA had reasons to want John F. Kennedy not to be president. Because of what happened at
the Bay of Pigs JFK reached his maximum dislike for the agency and it was said John F.
Kennedy had made it clear that he planned to destroy the CIA... (Kennedy) said that he wanted to
splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds (Lane 93). And JFK believed
that after the 1964 election, he would be able to resolve the issue with the CIA by forcing J.
Edgar Hoover to resign and he would be able to create a new international intelligence agency.
(Lane 97). The CIA could have kept the true information about the assassination a secret from
the public because The justice department s softness on the CIA dates from a 1954 agreement
between the two agencies which, in effect, gave the CIA the right to block prosecution or keep a
crime a secret in the name of national security (Lane 114) Three years after the report had been
issued, President Johnson told his White house staff member and political operative Marvin
Watson that he was convinced that there was a plot in connection with the assassination. He
added that he felt that the CIA had something to do with this plot (Lane 109). With the CIA s
abilities, they could have easily covered up that they were the ones that killed John F. Kennedy
and it was easy to blame it on Lee Harvey Oswald because he defected to Russia and he had ties to
Cuba. Also, they had the motive to kill JFK if they knew that he wanted to dismantle the

Essay on Apache Indians
Apache Prisoners of War
The Chiricahuas, who were once one of the most feared Native American tribes of the southwest,
became prisoners of war by the United States for a period of twenty seven years. This period of
time was the longest captivity a Native American tribe had ever been imprisoned. The Chiricahuas
imprisonment began in 1886, when the United States Army transported four hundred Native
Americans from San Carlos and Fort Apache reservations to army posts in Florida (Davis). By
1887, the bulk of the Chiricahuas had been transported to the Mount Vernon barracks in Alabama,
and the rest of the dislocated band of Chiricahuas, including the now famous Geronimo were
reunited by 1888 (Davis). During the period of 1887 1894 the ... Show more content on

General Crook relied heavily on Chiricahuas turned into scouts since no white man could ever track
the elusive Geronimo in his own land. Chiricahua scouts then spread rumors of a possible arrest
of Geronimo, which then convinced the proud but, weary leader to turn him into authorities.
General Crook had since resigned and his replacement, General Nelson Miles, finally captured
the great Geronimo (Davis). General Miles had promised the great leader that all the Chiricahua
families would be imprisoned together to further reduce the risk for more conflict. Miles then
took it a step further and suggested to the Secretary of War, William C. Endicott, to imprison the
Chiricahua scouts that had helped to capture Geronimo, for fear that the former scouts could not
be trusted. Geronimo was separated from his family and sent to live at Fort Pickens. The
seventeen other families that were hiding with him at the time of his surrender were sent to live at
Fort Marion, where disease and lack of nutrition were a huge fallacy for life in that area (Davis).
By April 1887, a formal report of these conditions were published that convinced President
Cleveland and the war department to move the Chiricahuas to the Mount Vernon Barracks.
The first Chiricahuas to arrive from Fort Marion, to Mount Vernon, set up camp in the forest right
outside the barrack s twelve foot brick walls. The prisoners were not actually imprisoned in a cell
but were allowed to move freely

Durkheim Religion
Durkheim studied the general social aspects of religion, and made broad conclusions based upon
his observations of the roles religion played in societies; Geertz explored the intimate and personal
experiences of each individual, along with the more unique moods and motivations that dictated
the culture of each group. Both observers struck a similar tone in revealing the power which an
icon, or emblem, might possess within the heart of an individual, but differed in their conclusions
as to the degree of importance and level of impact which icons had upon the individual as well as
the collective.
Durkheim considered religion within a social context. His primary concepts involve the separation

There exists a specified set of behavior which is generally discouraged, if not prohibited; there
are also desirable acts which receive approval from the group. Most discouraged acts seek to fulfill
the desires of the individual, while the approved acts are centered on the common good of the group.
Geertz studied religion from a cultural perspective. His studies were similar to Durkheim s in
recognizing the social structures, but included the elements of culture, which considered the
individual as well as the collective. Not only does Geertz identify the societal aspects of a religion,
but he dives deeper into the individual to attempt to discern the motives for behavior within the
social environment.
Geertz recognized religion as a controlling force or heavy influence within a culture. He found that
religion affected each individual deeply and changed them internally. Similar to concepts derived
from earlier studies of totemic groups, he found that an icon or symbol holds great influence over
an individual. Geertz s studies went into greater detail than Durkheim s on the overall impact that
symbolism affected the

Creating Tension in Act 2 of The Crucible by Arthur Miller Arthur Miller s play The Crucible is
set in Salem in 1692. At that time there was a lot of tension, as many people were being accused
of witchcraft and being against God. In the play Miller shows how the accusations affected
everyone in Salem. Miller creates a sense of tension by setting the scene in a low, dark room.
This room is quiet and gloomy as very little light is getting in. Miller does this to create an
atmosphere which is unhappy and depressing. The tension is already high as the scene before
ended with satanic accusations. The room is bare, which is unwelcoming, and it seems unlived in

Elizabeth appears to be suspicious of John, we see this when John tells Elizabeth that he was
alone with Abigail. This builds up most of the tension in the scene. Miller has done this to show
how upset the character is. We can see this in the way Miller makes the character speak. You
where alone with her? The action in this scene is minimal, Miller does this so the audience
focuses on what Elizabeth and John are saying, rather than what they are doing. The movements
they make are also there to show a change in the characters emotion, for instance when John
stands to kiss Elizabeth; he gets up goes to her and kisses her . From this we can see he is trying
to say sorry to her, but she merely received it, showing that she doesn t forgive him. Miller does
this to show that John has realised the mistake he has made with Abigail. Elizabeth wants John
to be pleased with her She sits and watches him taste it . From this we can see that although there
are problems, Elizabethis trying to continue as normal. Miller s use of characters allows him to
inform us of the purpose of his storyline. Elizabeth is portrayed as a caring mother figure, as she
is heard by John singing her children to sleep. By displaying a cold front to John when he
attempts to kiss her, we can see that she is cold. Oh, Elizabeth, your justice would freeze beer! Here

novel attacks. The drawback is that it assumes that intrusions will be accompanied by
manifestations that are sufficiently unusual so as to permit detection. These generate many false
alarms as well and hence compromise the effectiveness of the IDS. Network based IDS This IDS
looks for attack signatures in network traffic via a promiscuous interface. It analyzes all passing

Speech Cloud In Persepolis
Persepolis Twentieth century holds many enormous changes within all sections of life, graphic
novels as a branch of literature was a part of those changes. It employs visual and verbal

The parole consist of monitoring the children s behavior and actions he or she does. Another
hand, when a adult is being monitor is to focus on they behavior so it will not lead to re

future. There is more chance that adults will re offend again after they are released from prison. My
opinion, adults who have been charged for sexual harassment are more likely to re offend
because of the desire of pressure, mental ill, and power. There are differences between the juvenile
and adult justice system that have to do in the criminal justice. One differences is that juveniles
are prosecute to delinquent acts, but it can be tried to the adult system. The second differences is
juveniles does not have the right to a public trial by jury. If juvenile is charged for a crime he or she

The third differences is the adult justice system focus more on punishing and for juvenile justice

Critical Analysis Of Forrest Gump
Its hero, played by Tom Hanks, is a thoroughly decent man with an IQ of 75, who manages
between the 1950s and the 1980s to become involved in every major event in American history.
And he survives them all with only honesty and kindness as his shields. And yet this is not a
heartwarming story about a mentally retarded man. That cubbyhole is much too small and limiting
for Forrest Gump. The movie is more of a meditation on our times, as seen through the eyes of a
man who lacks cynicism and takes things for exactly what they are. Watch him carefully and you
will understand why some people are criticized for being too clever by half. Forrest is clever by
just exactly enough. Tom Hanksmay be the only actor who could have played the role. I can t
think of anyone else as Gump, after seeing how Hanks makes him into a person so dignified, So
straight ahead. The performance is a breathtaking balancing act between comedy and sadness, in
a story rich in big laughs and quiet truths. Forrest is born to an Alabama boardinghouse Owner
(Sally Field) who tries to correct his posture by making him wear braces, but who never criticizes
his mind. When Forrest is called stupid, his mother tells him, Stupid is as stupid does, and Forrest
turns out to be incapable of doing anything less than profound. Also, when the braces finally fall
from his legs, it turns out he can run like the wind. That s how he gets a college football

The Use Of Literary Devices In Bored By Margaret Atwood
Authors often apply literary devices in literature to convey special messages to the readers.
Margaret Atwood portrays the use of literary devices in her poem, Bored, when she uses anecdote
and metaphor. In the poem, Atwood effectively demonstrates how the use of literary devices
creates a greater insight into the lack of powerwomen have in a male dominated society. The lack of
controlwomen have in a society mainly controlled by men is presented through the author s
effective use of anecdote. In the beginning, when the speaker introduces the audience to her
relationship, in which her partner takes lead in day to day activities, the audience immediately

speaker is quick to tell the readers about her [h]olding the log / while he sawed it. Holding / the

explanation of helping her partner out in everyday activities is presented to the readerin forms of an
account of an event in the speaker s life. This forms a greater insight for the reader, as the anecdote
creates an understanding of the way the actions in day to day activities men and women take when
together, women are appointed smaller tasks within a society, which is dominated by men, whereas
men are the driving force and do the important parts of the activities. Furthermore, when the speaker

Start by taking all the parts off of the carburetor, until all that remains is the body of the
carburetor and more than likely the seat for the needle (6212), as well as the spray nozzle
(6214B). Usually the seat and spray nozzle are frozen in place and the flats are damaged from
trying to be removed by an ill fitted flat head screwdriver. If it won t come easily, apply heat to
the stalk with a propane torch. When heated, drop a few drops of water into the hole onto the
brass jet. Brass has a higher expansion and shrink rate than iron and when those items cool they
pull themselves away from the wall and are loose. Now you should be able to remove the spray
nozzle and seat easily, by using flathead screw drivers that have been ground to fit each part.
Be sure to remove the round gaskets under the needle seat and main jet. They get like iron and it

Family Structure And Family Values Essay
Over the years, family structure and a families morals and values has changed drastically from
generation to generation. From a families core values to women not working in the workforce to
women making up a good chunk of our current workforce, to even the norms of dating and the
roles of religion and culture in a family. times now are significantly different than they use to be.
With technology a new driving force interfering with families and the world altogether, their have
been many adaptations that have came along with it.
The main subject that I interviewed was my mother s mom, Tonia Johnston. She is one of my
oldest relatives, at age 68. All of my great grandparents are deceased. We started off with talking
about her great grandparents that was about as far as she could remember and still give me
adequate information. Her great grandparents names were Emma, who died at 64, and Palmer,
who died at 86. They migrated to America from Norway, to escape the poverty that they faced
and the lack of jobs. Palmer s hope of moving to America was to find a stable job and to raise a
family in hope s of a new promising country, with more opportunities. Palmer ended up taking a
career in dairy farms. His main job was to test the milk at all the local dairy farms in southern
Minnesota. Emma had no job, her primary focus was to take care of the children and to maintain
the household. They were quite the ideal modern family. Religion was a vital role in their family.

My Future Essay
My future is something I often think about. Most often, the questions that arise include the
common doubts of Am I doing this right? , or even the occasional midnight philosophical
questions such as Why are we here? , and so on. For the purpose of this essay, I will focus on the
factors that have allowed me to reach this point in my life and how these factors influenced and
continue to influence me, in order to provide me with a visualization of my future.
Factors that contributed to my current life choices include the desperate want to be something
greater, as well as to experience the world in ways some could only dream of. I study hard,
allowing for me to have the possibility of an early graduation. I dream big, allowing me with the
imagination to draw up plans for myself and my future. I work hard, allowing me the strength and
vision to execute my plans for the future. The way that I was raised has greatly benefited me. My
parents have taught me that anything and everything is possible as long as you work hard for it
despite the what others may tell you or even if the odds are against you. Another factor that led to
my current life, is the amount of time I allow myself to think about my plans and refine them. This
is extremely important because, without a solid, flexible, long term plan, you could get lost in
dreaming about the future, and end up not accomplishing anything. Hence, many aspects of my life
have been planned out with not one or two possible alternatives

The U.S. Design Of Federalism And Adjust Of Energy Were
The U.S. design of federalism and adjust of energy were two integral strands of energy partition
one level and one vertical. The reason for both flat and vertical power adjust was to ensure singular
freedom, the objective the Founding Fathers had at the top of the priority list when they composed
the Constitution. They trusted the best way to save singular freedom was to check government
control. Each branch would check the other branch of the new national government. In any case,

The Importance Of Tradition In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Following Tradition
When one thinks of the word tradition, the thought that often comes to mind is a positive one, such
as the thought of Christmas dinner at grandma s house or church on Easter Sunday. Most of these
traditions we follow blindly, meaning that it is just something we do even if we do not remember
why. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a traditionis an inherited, established, or
customary pattern of thought or action (757). Since it is inherited, we do not really have a say in
receiving it or not. It is expected that we continue the tradition because that s what our ancestors
have done. While following a long line of tradition can be truly great, when the reason for the
tradition becomes blurred it can become harmful. In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, blindness can be
undesirable when following a tradition and can make that tradition dangerous.
My family has many traditions that we practice. As I mentioned before we go to Church on
Easter Sunday. Many little details make this tradition the tradition that it is. The whole family
gets dressed up in their very best and as a family we go to mass and praise Jesus. After mass, we
stay dressed up and meet our relatives at CafГ© 422 for a giant Italian meal. Once we all are too
stuffed to take in anymore, we retreat to my aunt s house where we can finally get into
comfortable clothing and hang out in the living room usually playing some type of game or
watching a movie. For me, I follow this tradition

Sociological Perspectives on Religion Essay example
Religion is a ritualized system of beliefs and practices related to things defined as sacred by an
organized community of believers. (Basirico et.al. 379). Religion is an important element in the
society because it influences the way individuals act and think. It has shaped the relationship and
bonding among families as well as influenced the decision made in economics and politics. Religion
in general has contributed to shape a society and a government structure which will influence the
way the individuals under certain governmental structure behave. Sociologists are interested in
religion mainly because religious belief is heavily rooted in individuals lives and it helps

However, no matter how sociologists and scientists view religion, there are a lot of people who
will still believe in their own religion and that there exists a power that science cannot explain. For
example, in an Islamic country such as Indonesia, government is organized base on what is
appropriate according to Islam. Even though, there are a lot of people questions the existence of
supernatural power and hundreds of books publish that study the scientific view of religion,
government and people in that country still believe in their religions. Students at school also
study about science and sociological perspective toward religion and almost every student still
believe in their religion and practice it in their societies. Moreover, in US where freedom of
speech is allowed and knowledge can be shared quickly by internet, every person in US knows
about scientific study of religion but Christianity is still emphasized in everyday life. People
may only view sociological and scientific perspective of religion as one of the knowledge that
need to be known but doesn t have to be practiced. Overall, the sociological study in religions
does not undermine nor strengthen one s faith. Other factors such as people who use religion to

An Unpleasant Experience At An Airport
An unpleasant experience at an airport Recently, UNICEF released a video to promote their
campaign for needy children, however it presents a stereotype against physical appearances
rather than the campaign. In the video, a 6 year old girl who dressed pretty and neatly stood
alone on a street and many people asked her whether she was all right. Later, when the same girl
had changed her appearance in dirty clothes and stood alone again in the same street, then
nobody asked her whether she was okay. The attitudes that people showed depended on the child

offended by others who judge people based on the physical appearances was when I waited the
delayed airplane to go to Korea, a manager ignored me since I didn t dress up neatly, however he
changed his attitude politely as soon as he noticed I was a VIP in his company. A few years ago,

In 2008, Whole Foods executed the conservative growth and business strategy financial changes

This organization consists of individuals and functions which are utilized in strategic decisions for

Defining Victory Of The Modern Age Of Warfare
Words Matter: Defining Victory in the Modern Age of Warfare
The United States has not stopped winning wars but the nature of both war and victory has
changed. Adjusting to an evolving geopolitical environment, since World War II the U.S. has
changed the reasons it employs military force and the types of wars it wages. Taken within the
context of the each conflict s era, the U.S. has met with mixed results in each conflict but ultimately
has emerged victorious.
Defining Victory
What is victory? In order to understand victory and defeat it is important to consider the national
objectives that governed each conflict. Since World War II, the U.S. has participated in five major
conflicts (Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
Freedom in Afghanistan). In each of these conflicts, the U.S. demonstrated military superiority.
However, unlike previous wars, these wars resulted in mixed results based on the specific political
and military objectives of the time.
Korea initiated the policy of containment that defined the Cold Warstruggle between the U.S. and
the Soviet Union. While the conflict s objectives changed multiple times, the coalition met the
initial objective to prevent the spread of communism on the Korean Peninsula. In Vietnam, while
the aim was the same the results were very different. The U.S. was unable to force a political
compromise that prevented the fall of Democratic South Vietnam.
In contrast to Korea and Vietnam,

West Side Story Symbolism
To begin with, the scenography mimics the aspects of Upper West Side New York during the 1950

which the audience can clearly see that the story takes place in a well developed city. As for the
representation and perception of the stage, most sets were seen as abstract Some of the sets created
entailed Doc s restaurant, The Playground, and Statue of Liberty. Furthermore, the relationship
between the audiencespace and performers space were definitely separate: meaning the audience
were strictly viewing the playwhile the performers were telling a story. Interestingly, the play at
times had an amber lighting dispersed across the set to give off a warm tone or vibe
symbolizing good feelings or nice moment. Some parts of the play were set in a dimmer
background enticing that the play at times was very serious. In addition, the electronic used in
IVC s West Side Story production amplified or added more symbolism to the play. The hearing of
a siren suggested that the police were coming. During fight scenes, the auditory sound of a punch
suggested that a someone literally got punched. When a building was lit with light and the
surroundings were dark, it suggests that the current day of time was night time. During the rumble,
the color red was shined specifically on Riff and Bernardo to symbolize that they were bleeding

As The Attitudes Of American Households Begin To Shift,
As the attitudes of American households begin to shift, the FCC should enact a new regulation to
best fit the changing viewership of consumers. At its simplest form, this new rule would allow
television consumers to have the option to pick and choose the individual television channels
they desire to pay for, instead of having to pay for an entire cable package , while still including the
basic cable service. Essentially, this new regulation would force cable TV providers to allow the
option for an Г la carte pricing rate for expanded cable televisionservices. While the proposed rule
would make cable providers deviate from market driven logic, the overall effects of it would alter
the medium of television for the better. (Lotz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1992 act subjected cable rates to regulation under most circumstances excluding cable systems
that were subject to effective competition. (Public Access Awareness Association) Also, it allowed
the FCC to regulate rates for other service tiers if they found that a cable system s rates were
unreasonable under FCC regulation. (McCarthy)
Nevertheless, the 1992 act was followed by the Telecommunications Act of 1996. During this
time, shifting cable policies and deregulation of ownership had massive implications for the
industry s operation (Lotz 52) Thus, because of its intent to create a competitive market, the
FCC was no longer able to regulate the rates for non basic service tiers. According to the FCC,
basic cable service rates may be regulated by local franchising authorities such as the city, county
or other governmental organizations, but are not required to do so. On the other hand, the rates
you pay for other cable programming and services, such as expanded cable channel packages,
premium movie channels and pay per view sports events, are set by your cable TV provider.
(FCC) So, in actuality, the FCC still does not regulate any rates charged by cable providers, thereby
giving them the monopolistic power of rate regulation and overall ability to engage in rate inflation.

Still another example is in Act III when Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet s cousin who killed Romeo s
best friend Mercutio. Before entering his duel with Tybalt Romeo says This day s black fate on
more days doth depend;/ This but begins the woe others must end. In this quote, Romeo is
saying that this dark day is the beginning of many to come. After killing Tybalt in revenge,
Romeo realizes that he will have to face consequences for disturbing the peace again, possibly
death. Romeo then blames fate for this instead of his own actions saying O, I am fortune s fool!
insisting that fate has made a fool of him. This pattern of bad decisions made by emotional
teenagers who blame the consequences on a larger force themselves is repeated over and over
again throughout the play up until the very end. At this end, when analyzing the characters
decisions in the play and where and when they blame fate, it is obvious that the stars are not the
reason that so many ends up dead in this tragedy. Instead, it is when Romeo and Juliet decide to
throw themselves into life with the mindset that it is not their fault of what happens, but the fate
that controls them and it is too late to change that. It is when Romeo, Juliet, and the Friar decide to

Religious Allegory In The Film The Seventh Seal
Yuniska Castaneda Joann Falcon ENC1102 12/05/17 The Seventh Seal I. What will happen to
us who want to believe, but cannot? A question that can resonate with a copious amount of us.
The fear of the unknown, fear of a death with no afterlife but also a fear of one with a promise of
possible damnation, fear of death in general. Antinous Block (Max von Sydow) the main
protagonist of the film The Seventh Seal faces this internal dilemma throughout the entirety of
the motion picture with no real resolution found for it. A parallel made to those felt in real life,
deliberately done so by director Ingmar Bergman. The seventh seal is a 1957 Swedish film which
brought Bergman into the limelight with its release in the western world. Everything about
Bergman s work in the late nineteen fifties stupefied American moviegoers everywhere, with its
stunning cinematography and disconcerting imagery full of religious allegories. The seventh
seal was considered Bergman s way of exorcising his theoretical demons, his own personal fear
of death. To Bergman s utter delight and joy, he was not alone with those sentiments. The film
was originally written as a screenplay with the title Painting on Wood , it was later performed at
Sweden s Radio Theatre in 1954. Bergman later changed it to the seventh seal, the title was taken
from the Book of Revelations, an appropriate title considering the timeline of the film. The film is
set in the Middle Ages at a time when the Black death was

A Literature Review Of Citizen Science
A Literature Review of Citizen Science
Rich Leopold
11/12/2014
Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data
collection efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and
directs all actions according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or
groups, motivation to perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused
around data gathering. The volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to
ensure the highest quality data possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to
harvest larger quantities of data and allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific
community.
Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of
volunteers participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual
Christmas bird count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk,
2009, p. 977). The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in
operation since 1966. Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each
year. Over 60 research papers, since 1997, have been published, using results derived from data
received from participants in various programs (Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 2014).

The Tragedy Of Antigone And Aristotle s Description Of A...
The tragedy of Antigone is an amazing story of the tragedy that Thebes experienced. At the end
of the story one is still left wondering who is the hero and who is the villain. This question has
been asked since the story was ever told. After reading the story I am going to explain why Creon
best suits the role of hero according to Aristotle s description of a classic hero. Aristotle wrote
six characteristics of a classic hero and I am going to use them to explain why Creon is the hero.
The first thing that must be covered before one can decide who is the hero of story is the six
characteristics of a classic hero. 1. The first traitthat describes a classic hero is a characterthat holds
a high position throughout the play. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is part of the noble family that has ruled Thebes for a while. Due to this Creon fits the guide
well so far. Next Creon could be considered to be gifted with greatness, but is nowhere near
perfect. Creon was not born to be in power, but after taking up rule he shows a strong rule that
looks to be promising. A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them and this is checked
off by Creon. When Creon forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods
and later pays for through the loss of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his
son, because they saw that it was unfit for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and
sentence Antigone to death. Following down the list Creon fits the next characteristic. The loss the
Creon experiences is quite harsh and was not really necessary at any point in the story. Through
this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends. Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He
learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him from being great. Now I will show why
Antigone just doesn t add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon, Antigone has no highly regarded
position in the story. Even though Antigone and Creon are part of the same family Creon is the
one with the noble position. Antigone also shows no natural greatness. She is just like any other
person in Thebes. Antigone dose face a downfall that she caused by only herself. Her downfall was

The Impact Of Drone Warfare On The People Of Other Countries
In the early twenty first century a new type of warfare entered the world stage, the implications
and effects of which are barely coming to fruition for those who will have to live with what has
been inflicted upon the people of other countries. Famed Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu once
said, the supreme art of waris to subdue the enemy without fighting . This is meant to act as a wise
proverb about the gruesome act of war. However, with the creation and advances in drone
technology this quote has been more than fulfilled, it has guaranteed a perpetuation of a type of
war where our government has no limits on the damage it can inflict. In our attempt to subdue, we
are not fighting with soldiers, but fighting with machines that bear no burden on the minds of the
American people. To the point where it is easy to believe that we are not fighting at all, but the
reality of the situation is that drone warfare may be the most atrocious military action inflicted upon
other countries by the American government, a monumental lie told to the American people, and a
violation of basic international and human rights laws. The likes of which are not infinitely
sustainable from a modern policyviewpoint, and will have to be dealt with if the democratic
legitimacy of our country wishes to be upheld at all. In Kaag and Kreps Drone Warfare an in
depth analysis of the modern usage of drones allows the reader to understand where it is drones

Wilson Vs Macomber Essay
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, The Short, Happy life of Francis Macomber, Hemingway uses
the writer s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three protagonists. Wilson,
Margaret, and Macomber s characterization develops through multiple perspectives and techniques
that help to create a consistently negative tone. Through reading this story, readers can better
understand how to view other people s actions and their own.
In Hemingway s short story, it is evident to readers that Wilson, despite being a professional
hunter, is self centered, refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and is unethical. Wilson s self
centered, apathetic regard for the Macombers marital issues is shown through how willing he is to

In Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can also see that though he tends to judge others, he rarely
criticizes his own actions. Near the ending of the book, readers can see the way Wilson views
his behaviors, and just how skewed his morals really are. Wilson s unethical nature is
exemplified through his acceptance and normalization of sleeping with married women. On
page nineteen, the text states that, He, Robert Wilson, carried a double size cot on safari to
accommodate any windfalls he might receive. This description of Wilson allows the reader to
understand just how selfish and immoral Wilson is. Not only does he commit shameful acts and
justify himself, but he does it on a regular basis and with a lot of people.Though he admits to
despising many of these people, as long as they will pay him well enough, he is willing to do
anything. Truly, Wilson, despite lowering himself to such pitiful standards, still views himself as
superior to everyone else. Despite Wilson s professionalism as a hunter, through analyzing
Hemingway s description of Wilson and Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can see that his ethics
are very unprofessional. Readers can then better understand Wilson s

A Free Man By Thomas Jefferson And Sally Hemings
Imagine living a life in slavery, where you have a limited freedom and society constantly looks
down on you. If you had the opportunity to be a free man, would you take it or would you come
running back to becoming a slave? Two of Thomas Jefferson s slaves, James Hemings and Sally
Hemings had to make this decision in 1789. James and Sally are part of a family that held
various high positions at Monticello, Jefferson s plantation. Martha Jefferson, Jefferson s wife,
was step siblings with James and Sally. When Jefferson was called to be the U.S. minister in
France, he called upon James to come with him to serve as his servant. Two years later, Sally
followed accompanying Jefferson s youngest daughter, Polly to France. While in France, James
and Sally were considered free due to the Freedom Principle. This states that any slave who sets
foot in France is now considered a free man. Jefferson chose James specifically to come with him
to France because he knew that James wanted to be chef and France was the perfect place to
enhance his culinary skills. Not only did Jefferson pay for James training but he also gave
James a salary that was more than the average salary of anyone in his profession. There are those
who believe that James loyalty to Jefferson was a valid reason to stay; however, I believe James
unwisely chose to leave behind the booming city of Paris and his personal freedom. This paper
will explore the factors that James considered to make his decision. First, I

thing in common; their passion for music. Our journey first started in the busy city of London,
England. After landing, we set off to the village of Windsor to see the Windsor

The Tower of London has always played a prominent role in the English s history. Controlling the
Tower has always been important to controlling the country because of it s position on the River
Thames. Because it is so important it has been besieged several times. There is also a group of
at least six ravens that reside in the Tower of London. The ravens in the tower are there due to a
popular superstition that if the Tower of London ravens are lost or fly away, the Crown will fall
and Britain with it . Some of the ravens were even bred in Somerset specifically for the tower.
The bird s flight feathers on one wing are clipped so that they cannot fly away. That same day
we visited Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guard. The changing of the guard is
a colorful ceremony where the sentries are relieved and replaced by a new batch of sentries. The
ceremony is done every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday between January and March.
Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 and originally built for the Duke of Buckingham and was
called the Buckingham House. In 1761, King George III acquired the house and made it a private
residence for Queen Charlotte and was from then on known as The Queen s House. It was enlarged

Essay on Columbus and Indians
Regarding the article, Columbus, the Indians, and Human Progress, Dr. Howard Zinn argues that
there is another perspective to consider as to Christopher Columbus adventures. Dr. Howard Zinn s
position is that history books have omissions of slavery, death and innocent bloodshed that
accompanied the adventures of Christopher Columbus. In the following statements Dr. Howard Zinn
describes his perspective; The writer began the history, five hundred years ago, of the European
invasion of the Indian Settlement in the Americas. That beginning, when you read Las Casas even
if his figures are exaggerations (were there 3 million Indians to begin with, as he says or 250,000,
as modern historians calculate) is conquest, slavery, and death. When... Show more content on

They were willing to trade everything they owned. They were will built, with good bodies and
handsome features. They would make fine servants.... With fifty men we could subjugate them all
and make them do whatever we want . In this quote, Dr. Zinn gives what he believed to be another
motivation of Columbus, which was the motivation to make the Indians into slaves for monetary
gain. Dr. Zinn believed this to be the motivation of what he termed the Europe of the Renaissance .
Dr Zinn states; theses traits, speaking of the Arawak, did not stand in the Europe of the
Renaissance, dominated as it was by the religion of popes, the government of kings, the frenzy for
the money that marketed Western civilization and its first messenger to the Americas, Christopher
Columbus.
Dr. Zinn references numerous accounts of innocent bloodshed, cruelty and the enslavement of
Indians by Columbus and his soldiers from De Las Casa s books prior to Columbus return to
Spain. Dr. Zinn records the following statements from De Las Casa book in which he says;
Endless testimonies ... prove the mild and pacific temperament of the natives. But our work was
to exasperate, ravage, kill, mangle and destroy; small wonder, then, if they tried to kill one of us

Besides the fact that he conquered Moscow, the Russians did not surrender. Instead, they burned the
city before the French got there, so the shelter and supplies that Napoleon was counting on were
destroyed. So, his army had to retreat back to Germany, while being chased and hunted by the
Russians. The whole Russian campaign ended up as a complete failure. He lost almost all of his
500,000 men that he had started with. In 1810, he divorced Josephine and married the daughter of
the Austrian Emperor, Marie Louise, in a last attempt to improve relations. Upon his return to
France, the Prussians, Russians, Swedish, and the British started the War of Liberation against
him. His army was soon forced over the Rhine at the Battle of Leipzig. However, the allied
armies did not accept the plan and they demanded that the brother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII, be
put on the throne. Napoleon was sent to rule the Island of Elba in 1813 with the British Navy
guarding the Island. But, in 1815, he returned to Paris and his old armies quickly gathered around
him, already sick of the new king. The allies were threatening to invade France again since they
heard of the return of Napoleon, so he quickly organized a new army and marched them into
Belgium to meet the British and Prussian armies. In Ligny, he defeated the Prussians and then
marched to Waterloo to meet the British under Wellington. At first, he was doing well in the battle.

Differences Between Good And Evil In A Good Man Is Hard To...
Flannery O Connor s short story, A Good Man Is Hard to Find, focuses on the contrast between
good and evil. Through the characterization of the Grandmother and The Misfit, O Connor
reveals that in reality there are no drastic differences between the two, only that one has already
come to accept his fate and the other is still blinded by her own selfish ways. From the beginning,
the true nature of the Grandmother begins to unfold. It is evident that she will say just about
anything to get her way, only she ll do it in a manner that illustrates her as one whose sole purpose
is to look out for her family, See here...this fellow that calls himself the misfit is aloose from the
Federal Pen and headed toward Florida... I wouldn t take my children in any direction with a
criminal aloose like that... I couldn t answer to my own conscience if I did. (117) O Connor s
use of the word conscience leads the reader to believe that the Grandmother has good morals and
values, but upon further investigation it s evident that this good only runs so deep. At first glance,
this moment can be perceived as one filled with sincere fear on the grandmothers part, however,
the chances of the family actually running into a loose criminal on a family road trip is one in a
million. Which leads to the conclusion that the Grandmothers sole intention is to scare her son into
submission, so that she may go to Tennessee to visit her old friends. Nearing the end of the family s

The Progressive Montessori School System
Perhaps it was an unintentional cruelty on the part of my parents to enroll me first in the
progressive Montessori school system that encouraged critical thinking and creativity, followed
by an evening catholic school program that required unquestioning obedience to a monolithic
religious dogma. When I began the sixth grade the window of an English professor and a family
friend gave me access to his extensive library and personal text notes because of my growing
interest in literature. In the first few months of my library visits, the Catholic program phoned my
mother to discourage my further attendance in both the church and the educational program. I had
begun incessantly probing my young Catechism instructor about the faith, and his unsatisfactory
response had prompted my protests and refusal to participate in any religious ceremonies or
sacraments. I had discovered both the Antichrist and Civil Disobedience during my forays into
the library, and though I was unable to grasp the intricacies of these texts, the basic messages
resonated with my experiences of perceived oppression and religious conditioning. The library
was my Pandora s Box, and it allowed me to escape into places and ideas far removed from what I
thought to be a banal existence in a small historic village in the Appalachian Mountains. My
youthful rebellions, and inquisitiveness, though often misguided and misplaced, were not to be
tempered in my adult life. As a high school student I was emboldened by an

Politics Essay
To what extent does democracy in the UK suffer from a participation crisis? (25 marks)
There are a lot of ways in which citizens can participate in politics in the UK without necessarily
having to vote for example: joining a political party, boycotting, and even signing petitions and
fund raising. However, there is an argument that there has been a participation crisis over the past
years in the UK. A participation crisis is when less and less citizens take part in political activities;
this can be shown in the decrease of voter turnout and the level of participation. On the other hand,
there is an argument that there is in fact not a participation crisis because the turnout of voting is
increasing and specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that the media has had an impact on citizens and their preferred party which could be
another reason why there is a participation crisis.
The final explanation why there is a participation crisis in the UK is the politicians themselves.
Politicians have been known to lack vision, and only really care about being elected in modern
politicians and political parties as it is seen as just another professional career. Politicians have
also been known to be over concerned with the media and how they are portrayed rather than
being concerned on how things are at the moment and what they can do to make things better.
This creates an impression to citizens that politicians are less trustworthy and are all about
presentation which causes turnout rates and party membership to decline. The growing idea for
politicians to target key voters and citizens they feel might change parties is also a contribution
to declining voter turnout rates as other citizens may feel like they aren t as important or cared
about and so decide to not vote or vote for a different party because the political parties are
ignoring the voters in the majority of seats. The decline in participation rates may also be because
of politicians and political parties being too similar to each other, which doesn t give citizens much

As a research from International Journal of Business and Management about a company stopped its automatic salary increments says that the employees of the company were not happy with that scheme and the company tries to give training to them about that bonus scheme. So the company ordered all the HODs (Head of Departments) to educate their respective departments on the benefits of the new bonus scheme. After the training those employees get enough education about the new bonus system and they agreed to the new system. And they were motivated to work harder (Akinlolu Ayodeji Agboola amp; Rafiu Oyesola Salawu 2011). Participation can be used to satisfy the workers, as when workers are participated and involved in decision making process then they will have understanding that the organization needs them and value their work. If the people actively participate they will be more likely to feel ownership of the change and will be less likely to resist. When the employees are involved and participated in planning and implementing the change process will have better understanding towards the changes. Participation of managers and employees to the change approach will be able to manage resistance to change quicker (Rosemond Boohene amp; Asamoah Appiah Williams 2012). When employees are involved in the change effort they are more likely to buy into change rather than resist it. This approach is likely to lower resistance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Outcasts Of Poker Flat Bret Harte was an English writer that loved to write short stories. Most of his short stories were about the Calif. gold rush. Some of his short stories are The Luck of Roaring Camp , The Outcast of Poker Flat , and Tennessee Partner . Francis Brett Harte know as Bret Harte was born in Albany, N.Y. in 1837 and died in 1902. He had a somewhat sketchy education in the East before he followed his mother and her family to the Pacific Coast in 1854. His mother was a widow and recently remarried when they moved. While he was there he taught school for a year, visited the Mother Lode mining country, and worked briefly for an express company. • 4. Sonnet 43 Sonnet 43 (Sonnets From the Portuguese) BY Elizabeth Barrett Browning How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day s Most quiet need, by sun and candle light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right; I love thee purely, as they turn from praise, I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death. On the other hand, as she moves on in the poem, and her voice gets more and more passionate as she continues to develop her list of ways she loves her husband, she builds each line s rhythm to match this mood. By the time we reach the final stanza, her lines find a rhythm of their own, almost completely ignoring traditional form WITH my LOST SAINTS I LOVE THEE with the BREATH,/SMILES, TEARS of ALL my LIFE! Another set structure for sonnets is how each line ends. Traditionally, each line ends with punctuation, a period, comma or otherwise to create a pause and contain a complete thought. Lines which end this way are called end stopped. Reading through Sonnet 43 , we notice that five of the 14 lines do not end with a set pause; rather, they are enjambed. Enjambed means to carry over; this term describes how one line flows into the next without hesitation. To try to understand what Barrett Browning s intentions might be for this move away from traditional form, it is useful again to notice what the mood of the poem is where she breaks the rules. In the first stanza, as she begins to count the ways, the ways she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eating Beans Today And Chesapeake Tomorrow And Shape Tomorrow To eat beans today and steak tomorrow, or eat steak today and eat bean for the rest of your life is an amazing quote to live by, but can also be detrimental, as well. Many people of all ages, not only the newer generations, have become used to fast service and instant gratification; therefore, many people become impatient when even their coffee does not come out in two minutes. For the most part, if things are rushed the will not come out with good quality: specifically, one s career will not go too far without the person taking he timeto learn the trade so they can the steak tomorrow. • 6. Everyone Need Social Justice According to John F Kennedy, All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talent. Social justice is access to all things in our life, no matter our talents, our beliefs, morals and goals. According to Google, social justice is justice in terms of terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges within a society. Everyone needs social justicein their life because everyone should be treated equal because everyone is unique in their own way. Not everyone is getting social justicein terms of education because of crumbling school systems, low income and rising college costs. First of all, rising college costs is one of the major causes for why people are not getting equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Department Of Education, Members of low income families are much less prepared for college than their higher income counterparts. For example, among high school graduates in 1992, only 21 percent of those with family incomes of less than $25,000 were highly qualified for admission at a four year institution, and 20 percent were minimally qualified. For students with family incomes above $75,000, 56 percent were highly qualified and 12 percent minimally qualified (Department of Education). Even though this was 26 years ago, the numbers are still rising. This is stating that the lower the family s income, the less prepared their child is to enter college and the higher the family s income, the more prepared their child is for college. According to the NY Times, One reason for the growing gap in achievement, researchers say, could be that wealthy parents invest more time and money than ever before in their children (in weekend sports, ballet, music lessons, math tutors, and in overall involvement in their children s schools), while lower income families, which are now more likely than ever to be headed by a single parent, are increasingly stretched for time and resources (Tavernise). • 7. Discuss the Relationship Between Sexual Selection and... There are many theories that try to explain relationships between sexual selection and human reproductive behaviour. Evolutionary theory is one such theory. There are many different species in the world which, according to Darwin, all came from one source, e.g. a bacteria or organism. Within each species, natural variation occurs, therefore the individual beings within the specie look different from one another. These differences are caused by genetic makeup (50% from your mum, 50% from your dad). There are some genes like down syndrome that get switched on when combined with other genes. Some genes can also undergo mutation a random change (e.g. being born with six fingers, instead of five). Most mutations are harmful, for example... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another study, Langlois and Roggaman (1990) took photos of faces and morphed them together to produce composite images made up of 4, 8, 16 or 32 images. Participants rated faces as increasingly attractive the more faces that went into each image; this applied to both male and female faces. The more faces in an image, the more symmetrical they become, it seems that moving a facial image closer to the average increases its perceived attractiveness. It is likely that symmetry equates to fitness and good genes , these people are less likely to have been affected by harmful mutation. People with attractive faces are preferred because of the benefits of passing on these attractive characteristics to offspring. Little Hancock propose that humans have evolved to be attracted to symmetrical faces because they indicate averageness , which equates to genetic health. Grammar and Thornhill (1994) found that females are attracted to males with masculine characteristics, for example: large jaw and prominent cheekbones. These features arise as a result of testosterone, which is also a handicap because it suppresses the immune system. Therefore, showing only healthy individuals can afford to produce these traits advertising a strong immune system. Cartwright (2000) supported this, finding men prefer photographs of women with symmetrical faces and vice versa. Body to hip ratio are indicators of genetic fitness; they form universal physical ... • 8. Jfk Assassination Theories And just as the president got straight in front of us... the third shot rang out. And I can remember seeing the side of President Kennedy s head come off ( The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza 27). On November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and since that day people have debated who actually killed him. There are many theories on how he was killed and who killed John F. Kennedy, the many theories are the lone assassin theory that the Warren Commission used stating that Lee Harvey Oswaldwas the only shooter and he killed John F. Kennedy there are theories that claim the Mafia had John F. Kennedy killed, and there are theories that the CIA had John F. Kennedy killed. To start of this paragraph will cover the trip that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CIA had reasons to want John F. Kennedy not to be president. Because of what happened at the Bay of Pigs JFK reached his maximum dislike for the agency and it was said John F. Kennedy had made it clear that he planned to destroy the CIA... (Kennedy) said that he wanted to splinter the CIA in a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds (Lane 93). And JFK believed that after the 1964 election, he would be able to resolve the issue with the CIA by forcing J. Edgar Hoover to resign and he would be able to create a new international intelligence agency. (Lane 97). The CIA could have kept the true information about the assassination a secret from the public because The justice department s softness on the CIA dates from a 1954 agreement between the two agencies which, in effect, gave the CIA the right to block prosecution or keep a crime a secret in the name of national security (Lane 114) Three years after the report had been issued, President Johnson told his White house staff member and political operative Marvin Watson that he was convinced that there was a plot in connection with the assassination. He added that he felt that the CIA had something to do with this plot (Lane 109). With the CIA s abilities, they could have easily covered up that they were the ones that killed John F. Kennedy and it was easy to blame it on Lee Harvey Oswald because he defected to Russia and he had ties to Cuba. Also, they had the motive to kill JFK if they knew that he wanted to dismantle the ... • 9. Essay on Apache Indians Apache Prisoners of War The Chiricahuas, who were once one of the most feared Native American tribes of the southwest, became prisoners of war by the United States for a period of twenty seven years. This period of time was the longest captivity a Native American tribe had ever been imprisoned. The Chiricahuas imprisonment began in 1886, when the United States Army transported four hundred Native Americans from San Carlos and Fort Apache reservations to army posts in Florida (Davis). By 1887, the bulk of the Chiricahuas had been transported to the Mount Vernon barracks in Alabama, and the rest of the dislocated band of Chiricahuas, including the now famous Geronimo were reunited by 1888 (Davis). General Crook relied heavily on Chiricahuas turned into scouts since no white man could ever track the elusive Geronimo in his own land. Chiricahua scouts then spread rumors of a possible arrest of Geronimo, which then convinced the proud but, weary leader to turn him into authorities. General Crook had since resigned and his replacement, General Nelson Miles, finally captured the great Geronimo (Davis). General Miles had promised the great leader that all the Chiricahua families would be imprisoned together to further reduce the risk for more conflict. Miles then took it a step further and suggested to the Secretary of War, William C. Endicott, to imprison the Chiricahua scouts that had helped to capture Geronimo, for fear that the former scouts could not be trusted. Geronimo was separated from his family and sent to live at Fort Pickens. The seventeen other families that were hiding with him at the time of his surrender were sent to live at Fort Marion, where disease and lack of nutrition were a huge fallacy for life in that area (Davis). By April 1887, a formal report of these conditions were published that convinced President Cleveland and the war department to move the Chiricahuas to the Mount Vernon Barracks. The first Chiricahuas to arrive from Fort Marion, to Mount Vernon, set up camp in the forest right outside the barrack s twelve foot brick walls. Durkheim Religion Durkheim studied the general social aspects of religion, and made broad conclusions based upon his observations of the roles religion played in societies; Geertz explored the intimate and personal experiences of each individual, along with the more unique moods and motivations that dictated the culture of each group. Both observers struck a similar tone in revealing the power which an icon, or emblem, might possess within the heart of an individual, but differed in their conclusions as to the degree of importance and level of impact which icons had upon the individual as well as the collective. Durkheim considered religion within a social context. His primary concepts involve the separation between the sacred and profane; ideas of souls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His studies were similar to Durkheim s in recognizing the social structures, but included the elements of culture, which considered the individual as well as the collective. Not only does Geertz identify the societal aspects of a religion, but he dives deeper into the individual to attempt to discern the motives for behavior within the social environment. Geertz recognized religion as a controlling force or heavy influence within a culture. He found that religion affected each individual deeply and changed them internally. Similar to concepts derived from earlier studies of totemic groups, he found that an icon or symbol holds great influence over an individual. At that time there was a lot of tension, as many people were being accused of witchcraft and being against God. In the play Miller shows how the accusations affected everyone in Salem. Miller creates a sense of tension by setting the scene in a low, dark room. This room is quiet and gloomy as very little light is getting in. Miller does this to create an atmosphere which is unhappy and depressing. The tension is already high as the scene before ended with satanic accusations. Miller has done this to show how upset the character is. We can see this in the way Miller makes the character speak. You where alone with her? The action in this scene is minimal, Miller does this so the audience focuses on what Elizabeth and John are saying, rather than what they are doing. The movements they make are also there to show a change in the characters emotion, for instance when John stands to kiss Elizabeth; he gets up goes to her and kisses her . From this we can see he is trying to say sorry to her, but she merely received it, showing that she doesn t forgive him. Miller does this to show that John has realised the mistake he has made with Abigail. Elizabeth wants John to be pleased with her She sits and watches him taste it . From this we can see that although there are problems, Elizabethis trying to continue as normal. Miller s use of characters allows him to inform us of the purpose of his storyline. Elizabeth is portrayed as a caring mother figure, as she is heard by John singing her children to sleep. By displaying a cold front to John when he attempts to kiss her, we can see that she is cold. Defining Victory Of The Modern Age Of Warfare Words Matter: Defining Victory in the Modern Age of Warfare The United States has not stopped winning wars but the nature of both war and victory has changed. Adjusting to an evolving geopolitical environment, since World War II the U.S. has changed the reasons it employs military force and the types of wars it wages. Taken within the context of the each conflict s era, the U.S. has met with mixed results in each conflict but ultimately has emerged victorious. Defining Victory What is victory? In order to understand victory and defeat it is important to consider the national objectives that governed each conflict. Since World War II, the U.S. has participated in five major conflicts (Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan). In each of these conflicts, the U.S. demonstrated military superiority. However, unlike previous wars, these wars resulted in mixed results based on the specific political and military objectives of the time. Korea initiated the policy of containment that defined the Cold Warstruggle between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. While the conflict s objectives changed multiple times, the coalition met the initial objective to prevent the spread of communism on the Korean Peninsula. In Vietnam, while the aim was the same the results were very different. The U.S. was unable to force a political compromise that prevented the fall of Democratic South Vietnam. As The Attitudes Of American Households Begin To Shift, As the attitudes of American households begin to shift, the FCC should enact a new regulation to best fit the changing viewership of consumers. At its simplest form, this new rule would allow television consumers to have the option to pick and choose the individual television channels they desire to pay for, instead of having to pay for an entire cable package , while still including the basic cable service. • 42. A Literature Review Of Citizen Science A Literature Review of Citizen Science Rich Leopold 11/12/2014 Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data collection efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and directs all actions according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or groups, motivation to perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused around data gathering. The volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to ensure the highest quality data possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to harvest larger quantities of data and allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific community. Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of volunteers participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual Christmas bird count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk, 2009, p. 977). The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in operation since 1966. Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each year. After reading the story I am going to explain why Creon best suits the role of hero according to Aristotle s description of a classic hero. Aristotle wrote six characteristics of a classic hero and I am going to use them to explain why Creon is the hero. He is part of the noble family that has ruled Thebes for a while. Due to this Creon fits the guide well so far. Next Creon could be considered to be gifted with greatness, but is nowhere near perfect. Creon was not born to be in power, but after taking up rule he shows a strong rule that looks to be promising. A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them and this is checked off by Creon. When Creon forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods and later pays for through the loss of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his son, because they saw that it was unfit for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and sentence Antigone to death. Following down the list Creon fits the next characteristic. The loss the Creon experiences is quite harsh and was not really necessary at any point in the story. Through this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends. Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him from being great. Now I will show why Antigone just doesn t add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon, Antigone has no highly regarded position in the story. Even though Antigone and Creon are part of the same family Creon is the one with the noble position. Antigone also shows no natural greatness. She is just like any other person in Thebes. • 53. The Progressive Montessori School System Perhaps it was an unintentional cruelty on the part of my parents to enroll me first in the progressive Montessori school system that encouraged critical thinking and creativity, followed by an evening catholic school program that required unquestioning obedience to a monolithic religious dogma. When I began the sixth grade the window of an English professor and a family friend gave me access to his extensive library and personal text notes because of my growing interest in literature. In the first few months of my library visits, the Catholic program phoned my mother to discourage my further attendance in both the church and the educational program. I had begun incessantly probing my young Catechism instructor about the faith, and his unsatisfactory response had prompted my protests and refusal to participate in any religious ceremonies or sacraments. I had discovered both the Antichrist and Civil Disobedience during my forays into the library, and though I was unable to grasp the intricacies of these texts, the basic messages resonated with my experiences of perceived oppression and religious conditioning. The library was my Pandora s Box, and it allowed me to escape into places and ideas far removed from what I thought to be a banal existence in a small historic village in the Appalachian Mountains. My youthful rebellions, and inquisitiveness, though often misguided and misplaced, were not to be tempered in my adult life. As a high school student I was emboldened by an ... (25 marks) There are a lot of ways in which citizens can participate in politics in the UK without necessarily having to vote for example: joining a political party, boycotting, and even signing petitions and fund raising. However, there is an argument that there has been a participation crisis over the past years in the UK. A participation crisis is when less and less citizens take part in political activities; this can be shown in the decrease of voter turnout and the level of participation. On the other hand, there is an argument that there is in fact not a participation crisis because the turnout of voting is increasing and specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that the media has had an impact on citizens and their preferred party which could be another reason why there is a participation crisis. The final explanation why there is a participation crisis in the UK is the politicians themselves. Politicians have been known to lack vision, and only really care about being elected in modern politicians and political parties as it is seen as just another professional career. Politicians have also been known to be over concerned with the media and how they are portrayed rather than being concerned on how things are at the moment and what they can do to make things better. This creates an impression to citizens that politicians are less trustworthy and are all about presentation which causes turnout rates and party membership to decline. The growing idea for politicians to target key voters and citizens they feel might change parties is also a contribution to declining voter turnout rates as other citizens may feel like they aren t as important or cared about and so decide to not vote or vote for a different party because the political parties are ignoring the voters in the majority of seats. The decline in participation rates may also be because of politicians and political parties being too similar to each other, which doesn t give citizens much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
