The document provides an evaluation of a social action video project by the author. It summarizes that the author is pleased with the quality and quantity of interviews conducted for the video on underage drinking and drugs. All pre-production was completed before filming, allowing for a more organized production process, although weather conditions required rescheduling some interviews. The author made sure to meet deadlines and received feedback to improve. They independently planned, filmed and edited the awareness video within two weeks to educate the target audience of 16-28 year olds on the real risks of drug use.
1. Evaluation
During the legnth of this project I feel my overall video turned out as I had planned. I am
pleased with the quality and quantity of interviews I had put together with several clients in
Oxfordshire.
If my social action video ‘Oblivion of youth’ were to be used for a real client I would hope it
would cover and fulfill the needs of what people expect and need to know about underage
drinking and drugs.
All pre production was compleeted before filming, this allowed me to be more organized
during my production. Although my timetable did alter slightly due to weather conditions it
restricted me from travelling to my interviewees so I had no choice but to re schedule
interviews and plan something else productive to do on those days, which were to continue
with editing. My sequence contained, interviews, voice overs, facts, cut away footage end
credits and music. The music used was for educational purposes in which I did all
procedures legally.
I made sure all my pre production and paperwork was in on time, this let my client (vibe
productions) see my growth and development throughout the project. I was also given
clear and constructive criticism and how to improve my current work.
As I worked independently during this production I had to take into consideration all the
key aspects of awareness videos, and what had to be done in order for it to be a success.
I planned, filmed, and edited within a matter of two weeks.
My social action video is more of an awareness video, I think it was clearly indicated due to
the facts being given and the use of interviews which displayed the realism of this serious
situation in Oxfordshire.
I had to motivate myself when it came to post production which admittedly was hard at
times. It mean’t I had to travel back and forth to Oxford to finish filming. I do usually believe
that any social action video should present the positives and negatives of any major issue
but in my case in particular I felt there were no positives so there was no point trying to
show that across my video. I didn’t not want to mis lead the audience, I wanted to educate
them.
When editing I realized how and what I could have done better. At this point it was too late
to go back and change everything so I began to experiment with how I wanted my video to
look using Premiere Pro.
When watching my video I feel it is very clear who my target audience is (16-28 yr olds). I
tried to make the music suitable to both generations of viewers so adults that may see it
will have just as much interest as the young adults who are my target audience. I used Ed
Sheeran ‘The A team’ and ‘The A team’ dub step remix. I feel the lyrics were appropriate to
share especially as it focusses of my may concern of the video which is drug use.
Overall I feel that my production went well. Putting aside my lack of motivation to put
myself out there to the public I still accomplished everything Vibe productions were asking
for.
