War Of The Worlds Environmental Disaster
Hollywood has had a history of producing apocalyptic science fiction films in which certain
societies are faced with life threatening conditions and have to look to other planets for gathering
resources. Movies such as Oblivion (directed by Joseph Kozinsky) and War of the Worlds (Steven
Spielberg) focus on aliens who arrive on Earth, looking to wipe out humankind in hopes of
obtaining the planets food and water to sustain their own population. They are seen to be evil and
greedy creatures who care for no other species except for themselves. However, despite their
attempts to take over Earth, these resource hungry aliens eventually retreat back to their own
worlds with empty hands after being driven off by humans and their determination to... Show more

After securely locking the window, he discovers the dust had formed into an unusual pattern,
similar to a binary code for the geographical location of a certain place. Upon reaching the
coordinates, Cooper and Murphy stumble upon a NASA facility hidden from the public and find
out later that it is run by his former teacher, Professor Brand (Michael Caine), and the professor s
daughter Amelia (Anne Hathaway). The professor explains to Joe that this entire facility is a
space station meant to take off in the future to another habitable planet. However, the first mission
is to find a planet, and Professor Brand asks Joe to help in piloting a spaceship to a wormhole that
has opened up near Saturn, in order to travel light years to explore another galaxy. Joe questions his
former professor and asks, Shouldn t that energy be put into saving our home planet? Brand
responds by giving Joe his own opinion on humanity s relationship with Earth. Earth s atmosphere
is 80 percent nitrogen. We don t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives our air gets
less and less oxygen. The last people to starve will be the first people to suffocate. We re not
meant to save the world; we re meant to leave it. In response to the current state of the planet, we

Pfew Personal Narrative
The summer of 2017, a couple months before my senior year, presented an opportunity that
initiated with a wave of uncomfortableness. A few months prior to the last day of junior year, an
energetic camp counselor advertised a summer business intensive called PFEW; Pennsylvania Free
Enterprise Week. She pitched the idea that this summer camp would boost my collegeresume,
provide plenty of chances to mingle with new students, and gain an insight into the business world.
Without much of a thought, I completed an application form and crossed my fingers as I waited
for an email of confirmation. Finally, my fate was sealed, an email popped up in my inbox that I
was accepted into the first week of PFEW. It was a balmy July morning when my family and I
drove out to Lycoming College to begin my week at PFEW. An uneasy feeling set in as I
realized that I will be surrounded by strangers in an uncommon environment for a whole seven
days. Adding onto this stress was the fact that I have never been away from my parents for more
than one night. Upon my arrival, all of the camp participants were ushered to a large auditorium
and given a welcome presentation. Looking around at all the unfamiliar faces, I felt the urge to call
my parents and avoid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, the hard work paid off and we were very pleased with the results. Later in the evening, a
banquet was held to announce the winning groups of the week. Though we did not walk away
with a prize, the gain of companionship and knowledge was the biggest reward of my experience
at PFEW. I learned more in depth information about running a business then I could have learned
from a typical high school course. I also learned about myself in the way that I was fit to lead a
group of strangers and can wave the feeling of uncomfortableness away in order to enjoy an

History Of Teeth Summary
1. In the articles Where Are All The Dentist ? and History Of Teeth by Kristin Lewis proves that
there were many problems with dentist over a long period of time. The first quote proves that
having bad dental care caused deaths. Dejed died of a bad tooth (Lewis 13). This proves that
having bad teethin history caused many deaths to people. Bad teeth caused deaths because
dentists back in time did not have the right tools to fix a tooth problem so the dentist could not fix
the problem. So they patient had to live with the bad tooth witch later then caused deaths. Another
quote from Lewis also proves that money was a big issue witch caused bad dental care. Many
Americas cant go to the dentist because of the cost (Lewis 17). This also proves

Space Shuttles Lab Report
This report is to investigate the heat flow across the insulating tiles on the space shuttle, find the
appropriate thickness of it, and to find a suitable method and parameters to solve the problem.
Crank Nicolson method was most suitable to solve the problem as it has the highest accuracy and
stability compare to the other methods. The parameters (nx, nt) were found to be 21 and 268 to
give an accurate and quick respond. An insulating tile with 5.79cm thickness was used to provide a
maximum inner surface temperature of 176oC.
Introduction
Every space shuttles were required to travel between the Earth and space a couple of times in its

Access Control Research Paper
An access control example in my community is doors. Having a lock door, will cover access to
your home, which is one of the first steps in securing your home. A properly set up fence, will
make it even more difficult for someone to roam in your yard. If someone you do not know is
inside your fence, it can easily alert you that a potential problem is arriving. Shrubs are another
factor in access control. Shrubs can make it very difficult for someone to view inside your home.
There are shrubs that can grow up to 15 to 20 feet height. Having many shrubs in your yard can
make access to your home feel more of a challenge, which is how a lot of homes in my community
are set up. Natural surveillanceexample is windows. Windows not only protect you from the

This dictates distance from someone s property. Landscaping helps with making private and
public areas separate from each other. Porches are cover areas for individuals. This can be in the

community has a front and back porch.
All of these measure are very effective in my community. Cops are not around my community 24/7

Trademarks Infringement
Trademarks Infringement Name Institution Case Decided By the Appellate Court According to the
research done on the two business clients who are under the Websites R Us, Inc, a company; it is a
company that deals with website making happens to have known of the existing trademark
similarity. The two clients, John Smith, has got a registered trademark called Disny World
Productions, Inc. which with sells adult literature and movies online. Another client who is also
under Websites R Us is using the same business name although his business is different. Despite the
varied business operations by the two clients, many customers have been confused when surfing on
the internet like the little Johnny Walker. Following the above analysis, the court determined that
the new law (Lanham Act 2006) should be applied on appeal. Through the facts gathered, the case
is genuine, and so there is a need for consumers such as little John Walker to get confused. This is
trademark infringement, and dissolution should take place. In the United States, the trademarks are

when the situation is not confusing for customers, and they can relate the trademark that has been

to the original one. In case of a dilution claim, it is not easy to predict how the court will rule.
Sometimes the person who copies does this knowingly, and this is punishable by the law. The court
holds that even though the businesses are different, there is evidence that Walter was aware that
John had registered his business in the same name. As such he wanted to create both confusion and

Analysis Of Studs Terkel s Working, By Harvey Pekar
American entrepreneur, Steve Jobs, once said: Your work is going to fill a large part of your life,
and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to
do great work is to love what you do. Some people may take a job out of necessity rather than
being passionate about their work. You have to lovewhat you do as you spend more time working
than being with loved ones. In Studs Terkel s Working, adapted by Harvey Pekar, the reader is
presented with visual adaptations of the lives of ordinary Americans that show how they feel
about what they do for a living ranging from farmers, miners, barbers, box boys, and a hooker are
some of the jobs mentioned in the novels. The author gives the... Show more content on

she does and commits herself to being a waitress, despite the fact that at the end of the night she
is exhausted. Dolores truly finds pleasure in serving people making them satisfied. From her
extra work effort of complimenting people, rearranging food a specific way for customers who
are hypochondriacs, and keeping the station clean. Dolores also shows how much she loves her
work by stating. To be a waitress, is an art (85). By characterizing her job as an art form, she
reveals that she wants everything to be perfect. She shows how she is oriental in the serving she
wanted everything to look nice and she even felt like a ballerina going between tables and chairs.
Concisely, she states in the novel that the next morning is pleasant again (91); clearly she looks
forward to going to work and it shows someone who loves their job. Aside from Dolores, who loves
her job, Beryl Simpson is an airline reservationist who detests her job. Beryl Simpson works on
the Astrojet desk, which consist of taking calls, helping customers make travel plans, and working

Argumentative Essay On Invasive Species
Humans are faced with the issues caused by invasive species and must make a decision. What
should we do? Should we step in and rid the ecosystems of these harmful species? Or should we
let nature solve its own problem? I believe humans must take action in stopping these invasive
plants from destroying ecosystems, attracting more invasive animals, and harming the native
wildlife. By taking action, people will eliminate the problem in a shorter, more effective manor.
One article states, Since people can now travel around the world much more easily than they ever
could before, it has become easier to introduce invasive speciesby accident, (Alien Attack,
paragraph 5). This demonstrates how quickly species can spread with the help of humans. People
need to eliminate these species faster in order to save ecosystems. Overall, humans need to
remove all invasive species before they take over the ecosystems of the world. Humans must also
take action because the invasive species may attract more alien animals. The article entitled Pesky
Pets states, Now, with no natural predators, goldfish are rapidly populating in the Vasse River.

An article states, If they do manage to survive in the wild, domesticated animals take resources
from native species, (Pesky Pets, paragraph 4). This exemplifies the damage that invasive species
cause to native plants and animals. An invasive plant could poison native animals, which would
unbalance the ecosystem. Some may believe that if humans step in they will cause even more
unbalance. However, this is not a credible statement because those people are not taking account of
the amount of disturbance that will occur if we don t do anything. The amount of damage will be
miniscule to the amount of damage that would be upon the ecosystem if nothing is done.
Therefore, humans must take action before any harm falls upon the native plants and

Extreme Human Emotions are the Sole Product of Biological...
It has been claimed that human emotions are the sole product of biological functioning. The James
Lange Theory of Emotion (1884) proposes that there are three components of emotions which can
be attributed to the automatic nervous system (ANS). The three components are Cognition
(appraisal of the event), Action (Fight or flight) and Feeling (Aspect of the emotion). Here we see
that a biological attribution of emotion has been in place since the 1800s and has been common
knowledge for some time. This essay will assess and examine evidence that has been provided to
support the idea that emotions are the product of biology.
Certain areas of the brain have been identified when studying fear. The amygdala is involved in

Emotional Memory also exists which isn t conscious (Claparede, 1911). When studying patients
with amnesia, it was found Claparede would introduce himself to a patient every day and she would
not remember ever meeting him previously. He began to hold a pin when shaking hands with her
which would cause her pain. Although the woman could not remember the man each day, she
began to refuse to shake his hand due to fear of being hurt. This showed that the patient could not
form new memories but the brain can ensure that the systems related to fear can override cognitive
processing when encountering a threat.
As we can see, the brain plays a strong role in producing fear responses. Additionally, there are
physical indicators of fear too. The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the fight or flight
affect producing increased heart rate and breathing. This in turn produces behavioural and
psychological responses such as feeling fearful and changes in facial expression. These biological
responses are caused by information within the brain which strongly suggests that fear is a product
of biological functioning.
Another important human emotion to look at is anger which is essential for communication and
responding to threats. Deffenberger (2002) defines anger as coping resources that are available to
the individual. When studying the brain, the amygdala is active in related to anger. Dopamine and
adrenaline are

Essay on Massai Culture
Massai Culture I have chosen my paper on the African Cattle People, specifically the Massai
Culture. The Massai culture seemed to have more than meets the eye when we studied them in
class, so I had to venture on to a website to see what else I could find out about them. In general,
the Massai have several practices: circumcision and clitoridectomy, an age group system, shaving of
the heads of women, extraction of two lower front teeth, the one legged stanceof the heron, and the
use of spit in greeting and benediction. The Massai s religion, laibons, circumcisions, cattle,
warriors, elders and cattle raiding were just a few characteristics of their culture, making themselves
unique of all the rest of the world.

Engai had three children, and he gave each a gift. The first child received and arrow to make his
living by hunting, the second a hoe to dig the land and grow crops, and the third a stick to use in
herding cattle. And the third son, whose name was Natero Kop, was the father of the Massai. I just
find it crazy how these certain cultures can come up with stories, theories or whatever it is they are
coming up with. And to believe that they entrusted all their faith and never were led astray from
their religion, makes me develop a strong respect for their culture.
In studying the Massai in class I became aware of the strong representation that cattle made in
the Massai culture. The people would go as far as naming the cattle as if they were their own
pets. The believed that cattle were the next best things to God, cattle were everything. Since the
Massai were semi nomadic pastoralists, this meant they would travel searching for new grazing
pastures. Going back to their Gods; Massai believe that the Rain God Engai granted all cattle to
them for safe keeping when the earth and sky split. The bond between the Massai and the cattle
was inseparable. The Massai knew each cattle by voice, color and eye. The Massai would slice the
ears of the cattle in a certain way so they can recognize that it belongs to a certain clan. The cattle
would provide the following for the Massai: milk; blood; a simple

Queensland Natural Disasters
Natural disasters can and have affected people and places for as long as we can remember. The
physical damage can cost local councils and government millions and in some cases even
billions of dollars. Majority of the time the government doesn t provide the state government
with enough money. These money problems are bad, but they re not the only damage that
places face after being hit with a natural disaster. Physiological damage is just and devastating. The
2010 and 2011 Queensland floods are a good example of the damage that places and people can
face. 78% of Queensland was declared as a disaster zone and it was said that 3 quarters of the state
was affected. Over 40 people lost their lives and around 2.38 billion dollars worth of damage

Examples Of Wisdom In The Iliad
Wisdom Younger men are changeable; he in his age among them, looking before and after, can
see clearly, what shall be in the interests of all. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s
husband and king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by
Homer. I disagreed with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old,
everyone changes one s mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the
gods, changes his mind on whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the
Greeks and the Trojans. At the beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I
catch sight of anyone slipping away with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes
back blasted without ceremony, or else he will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros
that lies deep down in underworld, but then he turns around and starts interfering with the... Show

Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether
the gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still
change one s mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off
of cognition among other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970
s on wisdom. After asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all
been considered wise, she concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and
reflection of a person. Monika Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other
people asking them questions based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her
older subjects had less cognition than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show
that wisdom, from the world s view, is based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age.
Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve

Diversity In The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales shows great diversity in the way that characters in multiple tales deal with
moral fiber. A character with moral fiber is one that does the right thing no matter what the
consequences are. In The Pardoner s Tale , the tale describes three men that seek revenge for
another man that died, even though they are drunk. They see an elderly man, and he leads them
to a tree that is supposed to represent Death. Underneath the tree is gold, enough so that the three
of them could be rich. But, while one is at the store, two of the men plot to kill the other so they
can split it between two. Also, the man at the store buys poison to try to kill the other two men so
he can have the gold all for himself. So, greed takes over the group,... Show more content on

The men in The Pardoner s Tale represent greed because they kill each other dying for the right to
be the best, and always wanting more. Even though they have so much, they feel the need to have
more. On the other hand, the knight in The Wife of Bath also shows greed when he rapes a
woman. This shows greed because he wants something that he cannot have. Even though his
character develops throughout the tale, he also shows signs of greed when he complains about
his poor, ugly, and old wife, even though she just saved his life. I am your own beloved and your
wife, and I am she, indeed, that saved your life; and certainly I never did you wrong. Then why,
this first of nights, so sad a song (Chaucer 147 148)? The knight at this point is mad because of
the outside appearances of his new wife, but has yet to even get to know her. The knight should
have no reason to be mad at his wife because he barely knows her, and should put aside her looks
and social status. The same goes for the men in The Pardoner s Tale because they should have no
reason to have more gold than they already do. They also should not feel like they should have
more gold than the other men because there is no reason that they deserve it more. They have no
right to kill each other for gold, and they also have no right to be mad at someone because they

Grandmother Informative Speech
When i was younger and my family went out every weekend my grandmother would take care of
all their kinds the when they got home take care of them. She would have over 20 people in her
house and she would get up and cook of all of us. When the first time she got sick she went to the
hospital and that would be the first of many days. My grandmother is an inspiration to me.She
did everything she could t help and needy soul. She once brought a dog into her house to help it
back on its feet, and even helped it give birth. She would let any and everybody stay in her home
as long as they cleaned up behind themselves, unless it was an animal or they were not able to.
My topic is grandmother who means the world, moon and all 8 planets to me. No matter what
she always made sure that when i came over i would have plenty of crafts to do, food to cook

When we did crafts she loved to use the not glue gun and the beads these were her go to things.

According to (Homa Sheikh Sajadieh, 2013) Waste elimination is one of the most effective
ways to increase the profitability of any business. Processes either add value or waste to the
production of a good or service. The seven wastes originated in Japan, where waste is known as
muda . The seven wastes is a tool to further categorize muda and was originally developed by
Toyota s Chief Engineer Taiichi Ohno as the core of the Toyota Production System
, also known as
Lean Manufacturing. To eliminate waste, it is important to understand exactly what waste is and
where it exists. While products significantly differ between factories, the typical wastes found in
manufacturing environments are quite similar. For each waste, there is a strategy to reduce or
eliminate its effect on a company, thereby improving overall performance and quality .
The seven types of waste are:
1.Waste from overproduction.
2.Waste from waiting times.
3.Waste from transportation and handling.
4.Waste related to useless and excess inventories.
5.Waste in the production process.
6.Useless motions.
7.Waste from scrap and defects.
According to (Okpala, 2014) In Lean Production System, waste (which is referred to as muda in
Japan) is described as anything that destroys resources and does not add any value to the customer
s requirements. This is because manufacturing waste is the application of resources like raw
materials, labor, equipment, or machines over and above what is

How Does Overfishing Affect The Future
Nearly seventy one percent of Earth is covered by oceans. This massive body of water provides
homes to millions of species of marine life. Over the years, the amount of fish has decreased
rapidly due to the practice of overfishing. Overfishing has become such a massive problem that if
there is no stop put to it, it could destroy the ocean s and the Earth s future. Fortunately, an
organization named Oceana was founded for the sole purpose of saving the oceans. Due to the
overuse of fishing, the population of sea life is decreasing rapidly and the organization, Oceana, is

Essay on Gender and Music Preference
Gender and Music Preference There are so many different forms and genres of music that people
admire. Even older genres that have seemed to die out still have fans such as disco or polka.
Many researchers discuss why people favor the music that they do. This has been a popular
topic in music research considering how important music has become in everyday life. Music is
played in the car, on the internet, on cellphones, and even behind commercials on television. It is
hard to imagine a world without it. Now there are many reasons discussed about why people
prefer one kind of music over another, such as one s age. One s age could determine what music
was popular when they were a kid, or what genres they have been around to experience.... Show

Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their
listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the
reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves
themes of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age,
ethnicity, culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left
out. While some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting

Welfare Reform For Drug Test Recipients
Clean Give Away Pretend you are in kindergarten again and you have just won your favorite bag
of candy for behaving yourself in class all week, and right when the teacher presents you with
your glorious prize a fellow classmate, which had already been to the principals twice that week,
comes up and asks for a piece. You do not want to give him a piece because you worked hard for
it and he broke the rules so they do not deserve it, but then they go complain to the teacher and
she says you have to share with him. Would you be upset if you worked hard to obey the rules to

Since its conception welfare has been a source of continuous controversy. The main negative
throughout the years has been that people on welfare will never attempt to find a job and just
live off the government, but recently there has been a lot of attention brought specifically to the
recipients that are drug abusers. Therefore, some taxpayers are calling for a system in which
recipients are drug tested prior to receiving aid, but these systems are strongly opposed by those
who are current members of welfare. There have been several states that have attempted to start
some sort of drug testing program. This overview of programs was provided by Alcoholism Drug
Abuse Weekly . Michigan and Texas enacted system that would refuse aid to recipients that
failed a drug test while applying for a job, but did not require employers to administrate drug test.
Wisconsin attempted a similar bill that required employers to submit any failed drug test whether
or not the person was on welfare or not in hopes of catching any current or future applicants of
welfare. In 2003 TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) passed a law that all Michigan
applicants were required to take drug test prior to acceptation. Along with Florida that tried the

In these two centuries, the temperatures were falling all over the world, creating increased sickness

The Battle of Adolescence in The Catcher in the Rye by...
Adolescence is stressful and confusing to say the least, and is a time in one s life where one
begins to discover who they are and what they want as they transition into the adult world. In J.D.
Salinger s classic American novel, The Catcher in the Rye, the main character Holden, is a
downhearted teenage boy used by Salinger in order to portray universal themes to the reader
including isolation, loss of innocence, and the phoniness of the adult world. Through Salinger s
use of symbolism, the reader is able to ponder Holden and his struggles as he embarks into
adulthood in order to come to a deeper understanding of the themes Salinger s symbols represent.
One of the most widely recognized symbols of the book is Holden s curiosity about the ducks in
Central Park. Holden longs for answers to his question of where the ducks go in the winter. The
ducks. Do you know by any chance? I mean does somebody come around in a truck or
something and take them away, or do they fly away by themselves go south or something? (107).
As the ice freezes over the pond and winter comes, the ducks leave, able to escape the brutal
winter and the ice for a more pleasant, warmer climate to the south. Holden longs to avoid being
apart of the adult world that is engulfed with phoniness, but is unable to understand how to do so.

Differences Between Feminist Theology And Christian Theology
If one were to ask ten modern day theologians to define the word theology, it is likely that they
would hear ten different answers. Even within the various types of theology, for example, Christian
theology, there are a wide spectrum of attitudes and beliefs. Even more so, if one were to compare
evangelical theologywith feminist theology, the differences would add up quickly. Two modern day
theologians, Stanley Grenz and Catherine Keller, well known in their respective fields, have
approached their theology from different backgrounds. The most obvious is the difference in
gender. However, their theological methodologies, the definition, and nature of their theological
goals and their approach to being biblically faithful are vastly different. By careful examination,
these two theologians and their specific ideologies in relating to evangelical theology and feminist
theology will influence how a person approaches their own theology.
Considered a prolific theologian, Stanley Grenz was a leader among evangelical theologians
(Warner, 2005, p. 42). Author of a multitude of books on diverse subject matters including
eschatology, ethics, Trinity, and homosexuality, Grenz initially defended his Baptist customs
(Warner, 2005). However, considered as his greatest contribution, was his ability to bridge the
evangelicals from their own world of thought to engage the larger scholarly world (Warner, 2005, p.
43). He was the first to consider postmodern thought, recognizing

Analysis Of Grendel And The Epic Of Beowulf
Merriam Webster defines a hero as a person who is admired for great or brave acts and defines a
villain as a character who does bad things. These definitions may not be so indubitable as John
Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years
of novels and short stories, heroes and villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil,
but what if there is good in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around
this idea of heroes and villains and good versus evil. Gardner s twist on the stereotypical heroleads
to the true definition of a hero being changed as he creates one who has a nihilistic view on his
atypical life. A hero in the eyes of the Anglo Saxonshas superman strength, undertakes a great
quest which relates to society s values, battles a great monster, and is required to pay homage to
a god. Beowulf makes it black and white on whom the hero and villain are; Beowulf being the
wonderful hero who kills the inimical villain, Grendel. Gardner s novel, Grendel, has a skewed
view on who the hero and villain Gardner uses the villain from Beowulf and creates a novel
around him and his viewpoints on his world. However Grendel fits almost perfectly into the
characteristics of a hero, according to the Anglo Saxons. He posses super strength which is
demonstrated through the altercations he has with man. In fact, man is Grendel s evil or villain.
Chapter one includes examples to prove Grendel s

Argumentative Essay On Pearl Harbor
December 7th, 1941, was the day 2,403 Americans lost their lives and 1,200 wounded during the
Japanese air raid, on Pearl Harbor. On this day, the US Navy lost almost the entire Pacific Fleet in
the harbor. After the attack, all the ships were either sunk or severally damaged minus the aircraft
carriers. The aircraft carriers luckily were still at sea. The total number of military personnel killed
was 2,335, including 2,008 navypersonnel, 109 marines, and 218 army. Added to this were 68
civilians, making the total 2403 people dead. 1,177 men alone were from the USS Arizona.
The attack on Pearl Harbor is something that is taught in grade school history. However, if it is
being taught correctly that s a different story. As a child, we believe everything that the teacher
taught us even if it was a lie. The story of Pearl Harbor is a horrific event that has been revealing
more information throughout the years. What was taught in school was Pearl Harbor was a
surprise attack by the Japanese. That the Japanese managed to fly into US Airspace and destroy
our ships and planes for no reason. As we research more about this particular topic, we discover that
the United States was doing a really good job keeping secrets. For example, the Japanese has a
reason to attack the US.
The United States along with our allies Britain and Dutch, provoked the Japanese to attack. In
1937 Japan declared war on China which aggravated the US. The US and its Allies formed a
plan and cut off the oil supply for the Japanese military. No oil, meant no fuel for the war. By the
US making the strategic plan to cut of the oil supply, left the Japanese finding oil elsewhere. So,
they planned to invade into the Philippines and the Malaya territories. By moving into these
locations with the hopes of finding a steady source of natural resources such as oil and rubber. In
order to do so, the Japanese empire had to cripple the US military base that was 5,276 miles way.
After months of planning, the Japanese Empire put their attack in motion. After many different red
flag scenarios, the Japanese Bombers still managed to get the upper hand on us. With all of the red
flags that s presented hours, days, weeks before the attack why was the Pacific not

The Russian Mafia: Protectionism in the New Capitalist Russia The Russian Mafia has always
exercised an important role in the Russian economy. The contemporary mafiosi are descendents of
the seventeenth Century highwaymen and Cossack robbers. These men occasionally murdered
families prior to raids preventing them from being captured. The Russia mafiosi made a point to
remain aloof from the state. Mob men were actually spurned when returning home from fighting in

Most entrepreneurs purchase the protection. Then the new company pays unofficial taxes to crime
groups. This guarantees that nearly all new businesses will have an affiliation with the mafia.
Gustatson estimates that payments can are approximately twenty percent of the profit (105). This
is a major form of taxation on top of what the government already commands leading many
companies to tax evasion or concealing their exact value. These acts forfeit what little protection the
authorities might be able to render. The mafia demands a cut of the earnings but in turn furnish
more than adequate security. The mafiosi provides protection from unaffiliated criminals and rival
gangs. They ensure that property is not damaged or stolen. If entrepreneurs are visited by another
organization, they must only summon their own mafia group. The two gangs will settle the matter
themselves (Gustatson 105). This security is an asset that the State seemingly fails to provide. The
Russian Mafia has more men and weapons than the Russian law enforcement. The police force is
an intently corrupt place as is much of the Russian government. Both army officers and law

Jack says they will hunt it. This is how Jack s authoritative figure shows he is a dynamic
character in the beginning of the novel. In the middle of Lord of the Flies, Jack s savage like
/instinctual behavior is another example of how he is a dynamic character. Jack is savage like
because, at first, Jack thinks everything is fun, but soon realizes it is not fun anymore and wants
to leave the island. Jack s main goal throughout most of the novel is to kill a pig. Jack is put in
charge of maintaining the signal fire. After a while, Jack becomes distracted and goes off
hunting where he forgets about the signal fire and lets it go out. Soon after, Ralph sees the fire
has gone out and is very angry with Jack because there was a ship that passed them that could
have rescued them if there was a fire. Also, after Jack forms his tribe, they also need to build a fire,
so they steal wood from Ralph s fire. The second time Jack goes hunting, he kills a sow, which is
a female pig. Next, Jack and his tribe cook the pig and hang the pigs head on a stick for the
beast. The pig s head on a stick is a symbol of evil among the boys. This is how Jack s savage like
/instinctual behavior shows he is a dynamic character in the beginning of the novel. Violence
begins to emerge in Jack at the end of the novel. This is the last quality that shows Jack is a
dynamic character. By the end of the book, Jack has become a murderer. Not only

There are a variety of options for anticoagulation in CRRT patients. Heparin is the least expensive
and drug with the shortest half life, which is why it is the preferred method of anticoagulation.
Heparin does require frequent PTT monitoring and dose adjustments. The disadvantages to heparin
use are increased bleeding risk and thrombocytopenia. For those patients who develop heparin
induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), the use of a direct thrombin inhibitor is recommended.
Argatroban and Lepirudin are the two direct thrombin inhibitors of choice. Deciding between the
two is based on patient history, current medical condition and method of CRRT used. Argatroban
is eliminated by the liver, whereas Lepirudin is eliminated by the kidneys and may not be used in
patients with AKI. For those patients with an allergy to Heparin, the use of citrate is an option.
Citrate binds to calcium in the patients blood within the CRRT circuit and will help prolong circuit

Citrate is contraindicated in patients with hepatic failure or with lactic acidosis. When the use of

The vest stops the force of the bullet from hitting you and going into you, it will disperse
the bullets energy across the entire Kevlar panel. If this didn t happen the bullet would hit you

How effective is it?
Kevlar is what soldiers use today, they can stop some handgun bullets. Such as a 9mm

and his wife Nefertiti were represented with narrow and elongated arms, enlarged stomachs and
hips, noticeable breasts even on Akhenaten, and an elongated neck. These were also used to
represent other humans but with less exaggerations. The art in this period became a lasting
influence even after the collapse of Amarna. After his death, he suffered the Damnatio Memoriae
which is a judgment that claims that someone must never be remembered.
This has served to teach governments who wish to introduce radical changes to the beliefs and
practices of the people that though they may decree what should be done and force the people to
start practicing those beliefs, they can never eliminate the beliefs that have been in the
communities for ages. They will only last as long as the government does and then people will go

Borough Park Research Paper
Borough Park, a distinct Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in the southwestern section of the
borough of Brooklyn, remains bound by family values and religious traditions. The architecture of
the residential neighborhood consists of modest brick buildings no more then six stories tall.
Borough Park does not boast Art Deco skyscrapers or wide avenues, which were known for in
New York at the time of its production in the early 20th century. Its only differentiating
characteristic is the constant repeated chatter of a specific ethnic group that persists all day long,
except for the eerie emptiness from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday evening. The
chatter is spoken in different tongues of Yiddish and Hebrew, disregarding those who don t dress
modestly or humbly. Creating a world that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jewish merchants, women pushing strollers, men ¬¬¬holding a Siddur (Jewish Prayer Book)
all thrive in this modern, densely populated street corner life. This interaction creates spatial and
social dimensions that can be seen through distinct boundaries. These boundaries are created
through various forms of self segregation. It is then separated into three distinct factors in the urban
context of New York City, Borough Park and the individual home. These boundaries reflect a
specific religious sector of Judaism known as Hasidism. Though invisible to the outside eye, the
boundaries that are set by Hasidic Jews in Borough Park thrive in their religious customs and
traditions that segregate the community within the city environment. Rabbinic Urbanism, a term
defined by Jennifer Cousineau as the use of the urban fabric to create distinction, puts emphasis on
the structurally substantial spaces designated for distinct Jewish practice. By comparing them to
the city as whole, the neighborhood, the building and the individual are seen within the context of
their own practices, guided by Jewish law as interpreted in rabbinic

The Comic Book Maus
In the comic book Maus, Art Spiegelman shows the readers what people endured during the
Holocaust terror. Art mostly spoke about persons of Jewish descent. He utilized great imagery, and
characteristics to allow readers to get a mental image and painting of the immense pain and
suffering Jews endured during the Holocaust. His use of symbolism of mice and cats helped to show
how Jewswere just pawns, and experimental factors to Germans. Art allows for the reader to see
how terrifying and horrific it was for Jews to live through the senseless racism, and harsh living
conditions. These camps were like a living hell, full of deceit, hate, guilt, and survival of the
fittest. If one were to read Maus , and fully look at the words , and paint these pictures they would
noticed how the Holocaust just wasn t a tragic period of time , but it had a lasting mental effect on
any individual who survived those terrors.
Throughout Maus, it was vividly painted how awful it was to kill so many innocent lives, and
treat them like animals, and second class citizens. This is why Spiegelman chose the specific
type of animals he did to help symbolize the slayings. He chose mice, because majority of time
mice are mistreated and experimented with without any say so. Pigs were representation of the
Polish people, because they supposedly had a stench. They were under the rule of the dictator
Hitler. Polish people firmly believed in whatever Hitler said, and were instructed to not care about

Summary Of The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down By...
In the story The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down , by Anne Fadiman is about a family who
youngest child Lia Lee is diagnosed with epilepsy. Not only is the story about Lia Lee, but it also
talks about the Hmong cultural group different beliefs compared to the American cultural beliefs.
Throughout the story you see the differences throughout three different stages. Each stage shows at
least one difference from the Hmong cultural belief, American cultural belief, and the techniques
and practices that were used when Lia was born. The main theme in this story is the difference in
how each stage handles giving birth to a child. In addition, to the differences there also happened

I choose the typical American birth for many different reasons. One of the reasons I choose the
typical American birth is because of safety reasons. If anything were to happen to the baby, or
my wife and would want to think she s in the best hands as possible by being at the hospital with
doctors who do that take of job. Another reason why I would choose the American way of birth
is because that is the most common one to me. I had never had the same experiences as a Hmong
group has had in their lives. We also live in a different time were the typical American birth is the
more standard for this period of time were if it was in the past then you can maybe consider them
for their birthing techniques. Even though I like the spiritual aspects of the Hmong group I would
still go with an American typical

The Stages Of An Unreflective Thinker
Critical thinking is being able to evaluate an issue or situation to form a judgment. Having the
ability to think clearly and rationally, being able to have an argument and understand the main
concept and question any doubts you have and making your own conclusion. Being a good
critical thinker can help you in a lot of ways professionally and personally. Employers often want
to see someone that can think rationally and that is able to make their business grow and develop
they want someone that will take initiative in crucial situations. In our personal lives, it is
important so we learn how to distinguish the main facts about an argument and learn to analyze
the problem and make a conclusion of what needs to be done to help solve and prevent any future
problems. According to Linda Elder and Richard Paul, there are six stages of a critical thinker the
unreflective thinker, the challenged thinker, the beginning thinker, the advanced thinker, and
finally the accomplished thinker which is where we would all want to be in. (The Critical
Thinking Community , 2010) Stage one the unreflective thinker is simply someone that is
unaware of what role thinking is playing in their lives. I think we are all born as an unreflective
thinker and some people don t know the useful conception of what thinking really is and they don t
develop better thinking skills and end up dying the same way. Being an unreflective thinker means
that you know you have a problem but don t take the time or don t

Racial Hygiene In Nazi
Nazi Germany was a state built on racial ideologies. The Nazi Party was influenced by two
contributing factors leading up the Nazi state. These crucial influences are the buildup of science
on racial hygiene and the policing groups that further shaped and protected the Nazi regime.
Science at this time was not distrusted and was viewed as concrete. In 1895, Alfred Ploetz,
coined the term racial hygiene (Procter, 15). This term purpose was to consider not just the good
of the individual but also the good of the race. When political parties began to dissolve and Adolf
Hitlerwas appointed Chancellor, these ideals were brought up with him. The need to return to
normalcy allowed Hitler to sway public opinion. Hitler implemented policing to anyone who he saw
that threatened the Nazi Party. Racial Hygiene is the most influential building block of the Nazi
administration that sparked interest around the world before the 1900s. The growth of Racial
Hygiene or scientific discrimination was an emitting agenda, but it was also diplomatic in design to
reinforce certain power relations as natural with the help of policing programs to navigate into the
Nazi Parties direction.
When the Weimar dissolved, many were relieved that the unknown and imposed Democratic
government was gone along with many of its parties. The Democracy didn t take hold in
government long enough for the people to feel the effects. When Racial Hygiene was introduced
into Nazism before The Great War, it would be

What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in...
What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in Dickens Novel? Oliver Twist was
written in 1837, in the wake of the great change in society, brought about by the Industrial
Revolution. Factories were introduced to Britain, which created lots of jobs for many working
class citizens. This in turn created vast overcrowding in many cities and towns; most people
wanted to be closer to their jobs. The huge numbers of people living closely together resulted in
the standards in which people were living in dropping. The little they were paid wasn t enough to
support, in most cases, a family, or to make up for these terrible conditions, and many ended up
faced with living on the streets. The only choice for them was to enter the... Show more content on

The old story ... no wedding ring, Р† see. Ah! Good night! Oliver is a typical example of an
orphan in the 1800 s. He was born into the workhouse, and has never set foot outside it, nor
would he ever have the chance to. This was the same for most children in these times. The
circumstances in which he was born, gives us insight into how society was. Oliver s mother was
unmarried, and although in today С• society we wouldn t bat an eyelid at this, she would have
been shunned by the everyone. We can see evidence that, even though his mother has died, the
ramifications of her actions have led him to be persecuted still by others. Yer know, Work us,
continued Noah, emboldened by Oliver С• silence, and speaking in a jeering tone of affected
pity: of all tones the most annoying: It can t be helped now; and of course yer couldn t help it
then; and Р† m very sorry for it; and Р† m sure we all are, and pity yer very much. But yer must
know, Work us, yer mother was a regular right down bad un. Dickens ensures the reader knows
this story will by no means be happy, and Oliver does not have an easy life ahead of him. The
tone has already been set for the story, and Oliver has only just been born. This is clearly down to
the fact that he has been born in a workhouse, and will be subject to it С• cruel treatment for the
rest of his life. Oliver cried lustily. If he

  • 2. War Of The Worlds Environmental Disaster Hollywood has had a history of producing apocalyptic science fiction films in which certain societies are faced with life threatening conditions and have to look to other planets for gathering resources. Movies such as Oblivion (directed by Joseph Kozinsky) and War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg) focus on aliens who arrive on Earth, looking to wipe out humankind in hopes of obtaining the planets food and water to sustain their own population. They are seen to be evil and greedy creatures who care for no other species except for themselves. However, the first mission is to find a planet, and Professor Brand asks Joe to help in piloting a spaceship to a wormhole that has opened up near Saturn, in order to travel light years to explore another galaxy. Joe questions his former professor and asks, Shouldn t that energy be put into saving our home planet? Brand responds by giving Joe his own opinion on humanity s relationship with Earth. Earth s atmosphere is 80 percent nitrogen. We don t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives our air gets less and less oxygen. A few months prior to the last day of junior year, an energetic camp counselor advertised a summer business intensive called PFEW; Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week. She pitched the idea that this summer camp would boost my collegeresume, provide plenty of chances to mingle with new students, and gain an insight into the business world. Without much of a thought, I completed an application form and crossed my fingers as I waited for an email of confirmation. Finally, my fate was sealed, an email popped up in my inbox that I was accepted into the first week of PFEW. It was a balmy July morning when my family and I drove out to Lycoming College to begin my week at PFEW. Adding onto this stress was the fact that I have never been away from my parents for more than one night. • 9. Argumentative Essay On Invasive Species Humans are faced with the issues caused by invasive species and must make a decision. What should we do? Should we step in and rid the ecosystems of these harmful species? Or should we let nature solve its own problem? I believe humans must take action in stopping these invasive plants from destroying ecosystems, attracting more invasive animals, and harming the native wildlife. By taking action, people will eliminate the problem in a shorter, more effective manor. One article states, Since people can now travel around the world much more easily than they ever could before, it has become easier to introduce invasive speciesby accident, (Alien Attack, paragraph 5). This demonstrates how quickly species can spread with the help of humans. People need to eliminate these species faster in order to save ecosystems. Overall, humans need to remove all invasive species before they take over the ecosystems of the world. Humans must also take action because the invasive species may attract more alien animals. The James Lange Theory of Emotion (1884) proposes that there are three components of emotions which can be attributed to the automatic nervous system (ANS). The three components are Cognition (appraisal of the event), Action (Fight or flight) and Feeling (Aspect of the emotion). Here we see that a biological attribution of emotion has been in place since the 1800s and has been common knowledge for some time. This essay will assess and examine evidence that has been provided to support the idea that emotions are the product of biology. Certain areas of the brain have been identified when studying fear. When studying patients with amnesia, it was found Claparede would introduce himself to a patient every day and she would not remember ever meeting him previously. He began to hold a pin when shaking hands with her which would cause her pain. Although the woman could not remember the man each day, she began to refuse to shake his hand due to fear of being hurt. This showed that the patient could not form new memories but the brain can ensure that the systems related to fear can override cognitive processing when encountering a threat. As we can see, the brain plays a strong role in producing fear responses. Additionally, there are physical indicators of fear too. The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the fight or flight affect producing increased heart rate and breathing. This in turn produces behavioural and psychological responses such as feeling fearful and changes in facial expression. These biological responses are caused by information within the brain which strongly suggests that fear is a product of biological functioning. Another important human emotion to look at is anger which is essential for communication and responding to threats. Deffenberger (2002) defines anger as coping resources that are available to the individual. When studying the brain, the amygdala is active in related to anger. Dopamine and adrenaline are ... The Massai culture seemed to have more than meets the eye when we studied them in class, so I had to venture on to a website to see what else I could find out about them. In general, the Massai have several practices: circumcision and clitoridectomy, an age group system, shaving of the heads of women, extraction of two lower front teeth, the one legged stanceof the heron, and the use of spit in greeting and benediction. I just find it crazy how these certain cultures can come up with stories, theories or whatever it is they are coming up with. And to believe that they entrusted all their faith and never were led astray from their religion, makes me develop a strong respect for their culture. In studying the Massai in class I became aware of the strong representation that cattle made in the Massai culture. The people would go as far as naming the cattle as if they were their own pets. The believed that cattle were the next best things to God, cattle were everything. Since the Massai were semi nomadic pastoralists, this meant they would travel searching for new grazing pastures. Going back to their Gods; Massai believe that the Rain God Engai granted all cattle to them for safe keeping when the earth and sky split. The bond between the Massai and the cattle was inseparable. The Massai knew each cattle by voice, color and eye. The Massai would slice the ears of the cattle in a certain way so they can recognize that it belongs to a certain clan. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s husband and king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by Homer. I disagreed with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old, everyone changes one s mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the gods, changes his mind on whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. At the beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I catch sight of anyone slipping away with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes back blasted without ceremony, or else he will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros that lies deep down in underworld, but then he turns around and starts interfering with the... Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970 s on wisdom. After asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all been considered wise, she concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and reflection of a person. Monika Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other people asking them questions based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. This shows greed because he wants something that he cannot have. Even though his character develops throughout the tale, he also shows signs of greed when he complains about his poor, ugly, and old wife, even though she just saved his life. Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves themes of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age, ethnicity, culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left out. While some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting into the generic stereotypes. I disagree and believe that gender does take part in the music selection one makes. Literature Review Kelly D. Schwartz and Gregory T. Fouts created a study set out to examine the personality characteristics and developmental issues of three different groups of adolescent music listeners. The first group analyzed was adolescent listeners who preferred light qualities of music. The second group was those who preferred heavy kinds of music, and the last were for those who preferred a wide range of music. One hundred and sixty four adolescents participated in the study. The results of this research showed that each of the three music preference groups was tended to demonstrate a unique profile of personality and developmental issues (2001), Susan A. Adolescence is stressful and confusing to say the least, and is a time in one s life where one begins to discover who they are and what they want as they transition into the adult world. In J.D. Salinger s classic American novel, The Catcher in the Rye, the main character Holden, is a downhearted teenage boy used by Salinger in order to portray universal themes to the reader including isolation, loss of innocence, and the phoniness of the adult world. Through Salinger s use of symbolism, the reader is able to ponder Holden and his struggles as he embarks into adulthood in order to come to a deeper understanding of the themes Salinger s symbols represent. One of the most widely recognized symbols of the book is Holden s curiosity about the ducks in Central Park. Holden longs for answers to his question of where the ducks go in the winter. The ducks. Do you know by any chance? I mean does somebody come around in a truck or something and take them away, or do they fly away by themselves go south or something? (107). As the ice freezes over the pond and winter comes, the ducks leave, able to escape the brutal winter and the ice for a more pleasant, warmer climate to the south. Differences Between Feminist Theology And Christian Theology If one were to ask ten modern day theologians to define the word theology, it is likely that they would hear ten different answers. Even within the various types of theology, for example, Christian theology, there are a wide spectrum of attitudes and beliefs. Even more so, if one were to compare evangelical theologywith feminist theology, the differences would add up quickly. Two modern day theologians, Stanley Grenz and Catherine Keller, well known in their respective fields, have approached their theology from different backgrounds. The most obvious is the difference in gender. However, their theological methodologies, the definition, and nature of their theological goals and their approach to being biblically faithful are vastly different. By careful examination, these two theologians and their specific ideologies in relating to evangelical theology and feminist theology will influence how a person approaches their own theology. Considered a prolific theologian, Stanley Grenz was a leader among evangelical theologians (Warner, 2005, p. 42). Author of a multitude of books on diverse subject matters including eschatology, ethics, Trinity, and homosexuality, Grenz initially defended his Baptist customs (Warner, 2005). These definitions may not be so indubitable as John Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years of novels and short stories, heroes and villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil, but what if there is good in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around this idea of heroes and villains and good versus evil. Gardner s novel, Grendel, has a skewed view on who the hero and villain Gardner uses the villain from Beowulf and creates a novel around him and his viewpoints on his world. The United States along with our allies Britain and Dutch, provoked the Japanese to attack. In 1937 Japan declared war on China which aggravated the US. After his death, he suffered the Damnatio Memoriae which is a judgment that claims that someone must never be remembered. This has served to teach governments who wish to introduce radical changes to the beliefs and practices of the people that though they may decree what should be done and force the people to start practicing those beliefs, they can never eliminate the beliefs that have been in the communities for ages. Borough Park Research Paper Borough Park, a distinct Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in the southwestern section of the borough of Brooklyn, remains bound by family values and religious traditions. The architecture of the residential neighborhood consists of modest brick buildings no more then six stories tall. Borough Park does not boast Art Deco skyscrapers or wide avenues, which were known for in New York at the time of its production in the early 20th century. Its only differentiating characteristic is the constant repeated chatter of a specific ethnic group that persists all day long, except for the eerie emptiness from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday evening. The chatter is spoken in different tongues of Yiddish and Hebrew, disregarding those who don t dress modestly or humbly. Creating a world that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jewish merchants, women pushing strollers, men ¬¬¬holding a Siddur (Jewish Prayer Book) all thrive in this modern, densely populated street corner life. This interaction creates spatial and social dimensions that can be seen through distinct boundaries. These boundaries are created through various forms of self segregation. It is then separated into three distinct factors in the urban context of New York City, Borough Park and the individual home. These boundaries reflect a specific religious sector of Judaism known as Hasidism. Though invisible to the outside eye, the boundaries that are set by Hasidic Jews in Borough Park thrive in their religious customs and traditions that segregate the community within the city environment. Rabbinic Urbanism, a term defined by Jennifer Cousineau as the use of the urban fabric to create distinction, puts emphasis on the structurally substantial spaces designated for distinct Jewish practice. By comparing them to the city as whole, the neighborhood, the building and the individual are seen within the context of their own practices, guided by Jewish law as interpreted in rabbinic ... • 41. The Comic Book Maus In the comic book Maus, Art Spiegelman shows the readers what people endured during the Holocaust terror. Art mostly spoke about persons of Jewish descent. He utilized great imagery, and characteristics to allow readers to get a mental image and painting of the immense pain and suffering Jews endured during the Holocaust. His use of symbolism of mice and cats helped to show how Jewswere just pawns, and experimental factors to Germans. Art allows for the reader to see how terrifying and horrific it was for Jews to live through the senseless racism, and harsh living conditions. These camps were like a living hell, full of deceit, hate, guilt, and survival of the fittest. If one were to read Maus , and fully look at the words , and paint these pictures they would noticed how the Holocaust just wasn t a tragic period of time , but it had a lasting mental effect on any individual who survived those terrors. Throughout Maus, it was vividly painted how awful it was to kill so many innocent lives, and treat them like animals, and second class citizens. This is why Spiegelman chose the specific type of animals he did to help symbolize the slayings. He chose mice, because majority of time mice are mistreated and experimented with without any say so. Pigs were representation of the Polish people, because they supposedly had a stench. They were under the rule of the dictator Hitler. If anything were to happen to the baby, or my wife and would want to think she s in the best hands as possible by being at the hospital with doctors who do that take of job. Another reason why I would choose the American way of birth is because that is the most common one to me. I had never had the same experiences as a Hmong group has had in their lives. • 44. Racial Hygiene In Nazi Nazi Germany was a state built on racial ideologies. The Nazi Party was influenced by two contributing factors leading up the Nazi state. These crucial influences are the buildup of science on racial hygiene and the policing groups that further shaped and protected the Nazi regime. Science at this time was not distrusted and was viewed as concrete. In 1895, Alfred Ploetz, coined the term racial hygiene (Procter, 15). This term purpose was to consider not just the good of the individual but also the good of the race. When political parties began to dissolve and Adolf Hitlerwas appointed Chancellor, these ideals were brought up with him. The need to return to normalcy allowed Hitler to sway public opinion. Hitler implemented policing to anyone who he saw that threatened the Nazi Party. Racial Hygiene is the most influential building block of the Nazi administration that sparked interest around the world before the 1900s. The growth of Racial Hygiene or scientific discrimination was an emitting agenda, but it was also diplomatic in design to reinforce certain power relations as natural with the help of policing programs to navigate into the Nazi Parties direction. When the Weimar dissolved, many were relieved that the unknown and imposed Democratic government was gone along with many of its parties. The Democracy didn t take hold in government long enough for the people to feel the effects. When Racial Hygiene was introduced into Nazism before The Great War, it would be ... • 45. What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in... What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in Dickens Novel? Oliver Twist was written in 1837, in the wake of the great change in society, brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Factories were introduced to Britain, which created lots of jobs for many working class citizens. This in turn created vast overcrowding in many cities and towns; most people wanted to be closer to their jobs. The huge numbers of people living closely together resulted in the standards in which people were living in dropping. The little they were paid wasn t enough to support, in most cases, a family, or to make up for these terrible conditions, and many ended up faced with living on the streets. The only choice for them was to enter the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old story ... no wedding ring, Р† see. Ah! Good night! Oliver is a typical example of an orphan in the 1800 s. He was born into the workhouse, and has never set foot outside it, nor would he ever have the chance to. This was the same for most children in these times. The circumstances in which he was born, gives us insight into how society was. Oliver s mother was unmarried, and although in today С• society we wouldn t bat an eyelid at this, she would have been shunned by the everyone. We can see evidence that, even though his mother has died, the ramifications of her actions have led him to be persecuted still by others. Yer know, Work us, continued Noah, emboldened by Oliver С• silence, and speaking in a jeering tone of affected pity: of all tones the most annoying: It can t be helped now; and of course yer couldn t help it then; and Р† m very sorry for it; and Р† m sure we all are, and pity yer very much. The tone has already been set for the story, and Oliver has only just been born. This is clearly down to the fact that he has been born in a workhouse, and will be subject to it С• cruel treatment for the rest of his life. Oliver cried lustily. If he ...
