- One Health is an integrated approach that aims to balance and optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems, recognizing their close interdependence. - A One Health approach is essential for addressing zoonotic diseases like COVID-19, food safety issues, and antimicrobial resistance, which together cost trillions annually in human lives and economic losses. - Better livestock and animal disease surveillance coordinated across environmental, animal, and human health through incentives rather than penalties could help prevent future pandemics and save billions currently spent responding to disease outbreaks.
