Danielle BennettSMART Goal
My GoalSpecific: Drink 8 glasses of water a day and have a balanced dietMeasureable: 8 full glasses of water from the same cup from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. I will achieve this in 2 weeks. I will be able to drink 8 glasses a day at the end of the 9 weeks. Refering to my well-balanced diet, I will eat more fruits and vegetables. I will obtain the healthy amount of vegetables/fruits I need according to MyPyramid plan.Attainable: have filled water bottles in the fridge at night before I go to bed for the next day. I will always have my Brita Water Filter filled for the next day as well. I will plan my grocery list around how many fruits and veggies I will need a day and by those for the week.Realistic: I truly believe it can be accomplished because I have been able to drink 8 glasses of water in a day. I just need to continue with the goal every day. I always need to have filtered water at easy access for me to continue with this goal. A diet, to me, is a routine I need to get into. Once I start eating fruits and vegetables every day, it was just be a natural routine.Timely: By April 16th I will have accomplished this goal. It can be TANGIBLE by way of taste.
Why this goal?I chose this goal because I felt that I was eating unhealthy and wanted to get in shape for summerI gradually increased my water intake every day until, by 2 weeks, I was able to drink 8 glasses of water a day
WaterWeek One: The first day I drank 4 glasses. I marked in a notebook how many glasses I was drinking in order to keep track. The next few days I increased to 6 glasses.Week Two: The week started with 7 glasses a day. I began drinking 8 glasses on the Friday, the end of week two and have been able to keep up with 8 glasses a day.
Eating HealthierThis was a more difficult task because it is less specific. I began by weeding out junk food and making a list before going grocery shopping so I was less tempted to buy foods that are not good for me. I was able to keep a balanced diet for a few weeks and have slipped a little since then. I have still been eating fruits and veggies as part of my diet; however, due to my busy schedule it has been difficult to keep up with. I mainly focused on drinking the 8 glasses of water because it was more obtainable.
BarriersTimeIt was hard to find time to eat a healthier diet because I was always on the go. I began packing lunches and dinners for when I had to work to prevent eating out. MotivationAt times, I felt no motivation to eat healthier. I missed junk food.
Enablers SupportI gained a lot of support from my roommate. She actually participated in the 8 glasses a day goal with me. It was nice to have someone to help motivate me and keep me in line. My family also supported my in my goal.
ResultsI was able to drink 8 glasses of water a day; however, I was semi-unsuccessful in eating a balanced diet. I think creating two goals to start with was difficult and began to focus on one goal toward the end. I am proud of myself for achieving this goal and will continue to drink 8 glasses a day. It has become routine.
