These next four slides will give a clear snap shot of the value
of PDHPE.
Being active is an integral part of PDHPE.
This is why it is so important for children to engage in PE
which creates focused and more engaged students. As
we move into a faster more technologically driven
world, physical activity is crucially important for
children’s mental, emotional, spiritual and physical
health. By engaging in fun, dynamic sporting activities
that encourage children to play and interact they are
developing skills that will equip them for life.
A healthy lifestyle encourages children to choose
something better and that means nutritious food
choices. Many people feel ‘time poor’ which leads to
measures that will give them more time. So the
attraction of fast food in modern culture has created
easy options for poor food choices. The aim of PDHPE is
to show children what healthy food does to the body and
to lead them to make better choices, get them excited
about making food, gardening etc so they grow up
excited about food. The reality is fast food won’t go
away, so teachers do well to call fast food ‘sometimes
food’ yet to enhance the appeal of nutritional food as an
option for a healthy life.
As children grow and develop they change, and PDHPE
takes into account and educates children on the nature
of their changing bodies during puberty. It is
fundamental to educate and create a safe environment
for these sensitive issues. It is important to make
students aware of these changes, and to help them see
these as completely natural. PDHPE helps them make
informed decisions.
PDHPE focuses on games, and game sense, learning
motor skills and making healthy food choices.
But, ultimately it is about engaging students in fun
activities both inside and outside the classroom and
seeing things broadening their minds as to the benefits
of being active. Hopefully this leads students to take up
sports, running, dancing, rock climbing etc. It should
not be a chore to do PDHPE if the focus is on students
having fun.
