Part I - Anticipatory Grief: Experiencing grief before the loss has happened
Why PDHPE
1. WHY PDHPE?
Lets take a quick look at the importance of
participating in Personal Development, Health and
Physical Education in Primary School!
2. WE LEARN TO MAKE DECISIONS!
In PDHPE, we are always making decisions. Some
decisions we make include:
Choosing healthy food Versus unhealthy food
Taking responsibility for our actions
Choosing to protect ourselves in the sunlight
Safe and unsafe environments / situations
During our practical sports lessons, we also make a
number of decisions, including when to pass the ball, who
to pass it to, etc!
3. NUTRITIOUS IS DELICIOUS!
Too many young children are eating bad foods or extra
foods, leading to an increase in child obesity.
In PDHPE, students learn about the importance of both
balanced and healthy eating habits!
We teach them about the risks associated with a poor diet,
including both disease and illness.
From K-6, we are advocates of a healthy lifestyle, including
the types of foods children should be eating.
Remember: Nutritious is Delicious!
4. FITNESS IS FUN!
Not all kids like sports and games, but in PDHPE we make it
fun for everyone!
It is recommended that children participate in Physical
Activity for 60 minutes a day.
So why do we include it in the Curriculum?
Children are taught about Fundamental Movement Skills.
These skills are important for a child’s development,
especially when it comes to games and sports.
Physical activity relaxes us and reduces stress. It gives
those working brains of ours a break!
5. SOCIAL SKILLS
Believe it or not, PDHPE is a great way to boost children’s social
skills!
In PDHPE we are constantly working together, whether it be in
pairs, small groups or teams to achieve a desired outcome.
We do this in both the classroom, and during our practical lessons
outside.
We are always communicating in PDHPE, and this leads to the
children building positive relationships with one another.
The children are taught to encourage one another at all times,
which is an important lesson that they will carry with them
throughout their schooling years.
6. PDHPE – IT’S MORE THAN JUST SPORT!
Many people mistake PDHPE as a subject where kids take
to the oval for a few games and some fun… WRONG
The list of things we learn about in PDHPE is endless, so
here are just a few:
There are so many more elements to the PDHPE syllabus.
It is important that children are learning the content,
not only for now but for the future.
Sexuality Changes in our bodies
Heredity and Family Values The importance of goal setting
Disease and Illness Safety – at school, home and in
the environment
Drugs and Alcohol Relationships
