The Skins promo trailer uses fast-paced editing and upbeat music to represent the fast-paced lives of the characters and their lack of control. Various camera shots highlight themes like drug use and sexuality. The scenes show teenagers partying, having fun, arguing, and one person throwing up, depicting both the positive and negative aspects of losing control. Mise-en-scene details like the household setting of a house party, as well as props involving childhood toys, portray a sense of immaturity and reluctance to grow up.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. How does the ‘Skins’ promo trailer create representation of
young people?
The Skins promo trailer is incredibly fast paced and is edited this
way to maybe give a sense of a fast paced life for the characters of
this drama. It gives a sense of lack of control which also fits in the
choice of music over the clips.
The song over the clips if
‘Standing in the Way of
Control’ by The Gossip, a
modern song that adds pace
and an upbeat vibe to the
clips. As the music slows so
do the clips, it’s almost as if
they aren’t in control of their
lives but the music is. The music could of course be a
representation of the media and stereotypes that come with that.
A lot of the camera angles either show close ups of individual
characters making them more focal in the other general clips, or
are midshots showing 2+ characters. The shots are often shot form
a high angle which doesn’t make the characters appear that
powerful. The shots are rarely static and move with the characters
and throughout the party.
Some of the camera shots
emphasise and pick out
particular things, such as drug
usage or people
kissing/having sex. This them
highlights that these may be
themes in this drama. The
drug usage could emphasise
the ‘lack of control’ as the music does slow down as if someone is
having a reaction to the drugs. All of the shots show teenagers
having fun and having a good time, apart from in the latter shots
where you see people having arguments and throwing up. This
shows the negative sides of not being in control.
2. The Mise-en-scene in this promo trailer is pretty hard to pick up on
with such hard paced clips. However, we know that there is a party
taking place and that there are a lot of teenagers present. It looks
like a house party as
there are a lot of
household items,
most of which are
being destroyed, and
it generally looks like
a house. There are
close ups of drug
abuse and sexual
scenes which portray
re-occurring themes
in the drama, it also
presents an image of youth these days. Light is used to emphasise
characters and camera angles also highlight key characters. A lot
of the lighting flashes almost as if it’s a camera flash; from the
different camera movements and the lighting techniques used it’s
almost a POV take of the party from another person there.
The use of some of the props
in the promo shows a sense
of young, childlike behaviour.
The teddy bear, the tricycle
and water guns. It shows the
contrast of growing up,
making choices and escaping
childhood with the sense of
reverting back to it in some
ways. This represents
immaturity and not wanting to grow up. There is no real ‘costumes’
in this trailer and most of the clips show destruction and everything
in a fast paced blur.
