Different types of solutions are use in contact lens practice. Some solutions are only for hydrophobic rigid contact lenses and some for hydrogel soft contact lenses. While few of them may be used for both types of lenses. Various solutions available can be grouped as follow:
• Wetting agents
• Cleaning agents
• Storage (soaking agents)
• Rewetting agents
Multifunctional solutions are combination of two or more of the above solutions that enhance compliance by reducing number of solutions the pt has to use.

Potassium sorbate
1. Wetting solution
An agent that coats the contact lens with a film intends to minimize the friction of CL against pelpebral conjunctiva and cornea. It act as
buffer
Cushioning agent
It disintegrates to be replaced by lacrimal fluid. It must meet standards as regard to sterility, isotonicity, nonirritabilty and stability.
Should be buffered at pH of tears.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

7. RETINOIDS
RETINOIDS have been used in beauty products since the 80s. Originally
retinoids were applied in aesthetics medicine to treat problems caused by
acne, and later it was discovered that retinoids have a very interesting
regenerative anti-ageing effect. Since then retinoids application purpose
was extended.

9. VITAMIN A
Vitamin A has three forms of oxidation:
Retinol (alcohol), act as precursors of the acid.
Retinal (aldehyde), act as precursors of the acid.
Retinoic (acid). The unic biologically active.
Retinoic acid has high cutaneous toxicity, therefore the skin tends to
convert itself and store cell membranes in the form of retinol or its esters,
which have a better toxicological profile and greater stability.
10. VITAMIN A
The biological effectiveness of the different forms of Vitamin A is different
according to the transformations that are needed to convert it into the
active form.
In order to be able to compare the retinoid activity of the products
containing Vitamin derivatives, we use the IU (international activity
units).
11. VITAMIN A IN COSMETICS
In cosmetics the use of Vitamin A acid is forbidden due to its high toxicity, but its
precursor forms are authorised, and the most usual one is the alcohol format
(retinol).
Even so, it has some limitations.
According to the recommendations by the Scientific Committee on Consumer
Safety (SCCS) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is not advisable to use
3000IU/g in regularly used cosmetics creams.
12. VITAMIN A IN COSMETICS
It has clear advantages over its esters:
Greater skin absorption;
faster retinoic acid metabolism;
clinically safe;
similar toxicological profile;
natural transformation into its esters by the epidermal cells.
There are numerous clinical studies showing that :
Effective clinical dose: over 3000IU/g of retinol in cosmetic products have a visible
anti-ageing effect after 8 weeks of treatment with 2 applications/day.
Tolerated clinical dose: over 2000-2500IU/g it is possible to observe side effects
(manifestation of retinoid effects) in certain individuals.
13. DECLARATION OF RETINOID EFFECTS
When the dose of retinoids exceeds the skin’s storage and control capacity, this
triggers a complex skin appearance, known as retinoid erythema or manifestation
of retinoid effects.
It appears during the first days of treatment and is characterised by dryness,
scaling and finally, erythema and inflammation, and it can be extend continuously
until the treatment with retinoids is removed.
PHOTOSENSITIVITY
Recent clinical studies (2013) reveal that retinoids are not photosensitive
per se.
The current tendency is to think that the photosensitivity of retinoids is
caused by their effect on the skin –retinoid erythema- when used in
inappropriate doses, and therefore it is not recommended to use these
products while exposed to the sun’s rays, is maintained.
14. “RETINOID-LIKE” SUBSTANCES
The “retinoid-like” substances are those which do not belong to the
retinoid family but can behave like them in some aspects.
Over the last 20 years, scientific cosmetics has focused on finding and
studying “retinoid-like” substances which, unlike retinoids, have a better
toxicological profile and improved molecular stability.
15. “RETINOID-LIKE” SUBSTANCES
On a scientific and molecular level the great alternative in terms of a retinol
substitute is bakuchiol, with a genetic expression profile almost identical to that of
retinol, and it is stable and not photosensitive.
On a commercial level other alternatives have appeared, mainly aqueous HS
extracts –selected hydrosoluble substances- from leguminosea like Frigol makusta
(Vigna acontifolia), Soy (Glycine Max) or Lucerne (Medicago Sativa),…. which have
obtained cosmetic results similar to those obtained with the recommended
cosmetic doses of retinoids (3000IU/gr).
16. POWER RETINOL is the result of in-depth research into
retinoids and substances with retinoid or retinoid-like activity.
Its mission is to rejuvenate aged skin by natural causes or by
photo-ageing, sun.
17. SKEYNDOR launches a new formula to the market, based on
the synergy of three active ingredients that are expertly
combined to obtain a unique complex with surprising results.
Three active ingredients have been carefully selected due to
their distinctive rejuvenating activity, their unique ability to
enhance each other synergically and producing a surprising
anti-ageing result without side effects.
18. It is an extraordinary complex with great “retinoid” activity, made up of a
retinoid, Retinol, together with two “retinoid-like” substances,
Bakuchiol and the HS soy extract, which also boosts the repairing and
rejuvenating activity of the retinol; one stabilises it and the other one reduces
its side effects.
19. Pure retinol, an excellent rejuvenating element
that can repair and recover the architecture and
qualities of young skin.
[ PURE RETINOL
DERMAL REGENERATOR ]
20. The BAKUCHIOL molecule can act like retinol on a genetic
stimulation level, and also it is a great retinol stabiliser, which
allows retinol-based products to be developed to maintain their
effectiveness for longer.
Bakuchiol is an oil-soluble
molecule that is extracted and
purified from the leguminosae
Psoralea corylifolia.
MOLECULAR STABILISER ]
21. The HS soy extract, selected hydrosoluble extract (HS), on a functional level
can produce a rejuvenating effect similar to that produced by retinoids, and
with advantages that it can reduce the appearance of the manifestation of
retinoid effects and therefore reduce the side effects associated with
retinoids.
