The document discusses the results of a survey about audience preferences for thriller film openings. The survey was conducted to help plan an appealing opening sequence for a target audience of 15-17 year olds. Key results included that flashbacks, low key lighting, eerie music, slowly unfolding stories, suspense, tension, and some scares were popular elements. Psychological thrillers, horror, and crime thrillers also appealed to respondents. The group plans to incorporate the most popular elements from the survey into their opening sequence to engage their target demographic.
At this moment, California is in economic, political, and developmental turmoil. Leading economic sectors are changing, the segregation between California’s coastal hubs and its middle land is undeniable, and its transport network is both clogged and deteriorating. However, California is still a productive cornucopia of resources: valuable land for development, the agriculturally fertile central valley, and an increasingly skilled work force. Embedded in these two Californias, the deteriorating and the prosperous, are low density residential units that extend in every direction but the ocean. The northern edge of Los Angeles, though, is so geologically extreme that this sprawl has not leapt across the San Gabriel Mountains. Instead, urban expansion on the edge has founded stand-in towns, staging and production areas for the Los Angeles Basin and gateway to the Central Valley. Simultaneously, this is the ground of exchange between the glamour and mythos of Los Angeles and the wholly separate agrarian societies of the Central Valley and High Desert.
There are two potentials here, the first is in reinventing the way in which cities are expanded: a replicable typology that takes advantage of robust infrastructures but reimagines their connections with embedded focus points. The second is to acknowledge the history and character of northern Los Angeles as gateway to the High Desert and Central Valley, and reimagine a way in which inhabitants of these more rural societies can be connected to new economies and opportunities through existing logistics spaces.
In the years since the American financial crisis there has been a rise in temporary employment, not just in the traditional sectors of the farmworker or seasonal salesman, but across industries from manufacturing to business. These workers come from a variety of backgrounds and operate in any number of sectors and locations, but are connected through their constant condition of domestic transience. In rethinking the edges of cities we must also interrogate the territories they are encroaching upon, and can perhaps begin to imagine a new system of shared domestic spaces that operates opportunistically within existing infrastructural and logistics spaces. This paper will interrogate the territories between cities, those simultaneously on the edge and in the middle, and reimagine how the mobile workforce can take advantage of infrastructural connectivity to enhance their personal autonomy.

Unleashing the Revenue Generating Power of Your Field Services WorkforceGlobal Partners Inc.
In the past, most companies frequently treated field services as a cost center. The focus for field service was to deliver quality service to the customer, do it efficiently and stay within the limits of the service agreement. Under existing models at the time, service revenues were a fraction of the revenue from the capital equipment, in fact many technology companies didn't bother to separate revenue from services. But as companies move from these old B2B level 1 and 2 models to the new B4B 3 and 4 models, the potential to drive significant revenue from field service has become a new focus for technology companies. More and more these days we hear technology companies saying things like, 'servicing our installed base is becoming the biggest revenue growth opportunity'.
As revenue from products and equipment levels off due to limitations on technology, innovation on the supplier side and increased focus on outcomes coming from the customers, revenue generation will shift from products to services for most technology companies.
Three important shifts are creating significant revenue generating power for Field Services:
1. Shift from technical support provider to trusted business partner
2. Shift from customer satisfaction to total customer focus
3. Shift from price negotiation to value recognition
However, unleashing this power requires companies to create new capabilities within their Field Service forces.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
1. As we are focusing on the opening sequence of the
film, asking the question of what do you think the
most important parts of the opening, will be useful
for our planning. With people's preferred elements
we can use these for our target audience to improve
and make our sequence as appealing to the target
audience as much as possible. Here the results an
insight of the storyline and sounds to be the most
popular conventions for the opening.
The next question asks about the person's ideal
type of protagonist allowing us to compare our
ideas with the results to target our audience. The
results showed a psychopath with the most votes
and 64% followed by a villain and hero with only
18% each. This links with our ideas of having a
psychopath as our protagonist as we felt we had
a strong storyline and a good use of thriller
conventions to convey in the opening.
Question 4 asks how often would you say you
watch thriller films, this will give us an idea of
how often people taking the survey watch thriller
movies and what type of expectations we need
to fulfil. A couple of times a month was shown to
be the most popular choice with 55% of the
votes choosing this option.
Having a question asking people's ideal type of
protagonist will be useful to use to see what
appeals most to the audience. The characters
are one of the most important parts of the movie
and therefore having the audiences advice will
help their sequence appeal to people and their
preferred choices Here the results show a hero
being the most popular protagonist within the
target audience.
The next questions asks which sub genre of thriller
movie is most interesting to the person, to give us
the results of the most popular genre. We can then
use results to apply to our opening sequence
knowing the most popular genres, which appeal to
audiences. The results are mixed for this question
but show popularity for horror, crime and
psychological thrillers which we will adjust to our
ideas and movie genre .
The first question asks people's age allowing us to
analyse the answers within people's age categories.
This will make it easier for us when we have
decided a target audience for our opening
sequence and we can then use the information from
the survey. The results show 100% of the answers
being 15-17 so this will be our main target
audience, this is also our age group as well so this
should work well with our type of ideas and target
audience.
2. The next question asks their favourite thriller film to
give us an idea of the type of storyline and
characters within a movie The results showed 'no
country for old men' with 4 votes and 'none of the
above options' with 4 votes also. This tells us that
none of the thriller options are that popular within
our target audience but 'no country for old men' is
fairly popular. We can use this idea to apply to our
overall suggestions in comparison to the movie.
This question allowed the person to rank the
genre conventions in order of their preference for
the opening sequence. Low key lighting was
shown to be top within the results with the use of
eerie music being the second most popular. We
can then use these results when composing our
opening sequence to use the target audience's
preferences so they appeal to our viewers.
Question 7 asks if the person finds it appealing for a
thriller to create suspense and tension. The results
for this question show every vote towards the
answer 'yes'. These results show us as a group that
creating tension and suspense is vital in our
opening sequence and will directly apply to our
audience. As the votes are 100% that suspense and
tension needs to be created, we will need to use
thriller conventions to build this and engage the
audience as much as possible.
Question 10 asks the person the pace of how they
think the story should unfold. The results showed
73% of the votes for fairly slowly, this tell us as a
group how we should plan our story to slowly be
uncovered rather than immediately to build
suspense and draw the target audience in.
The question how do you think the opening
scenes of a thriller should open allows the
person to show their preferred scene openings of
a thriller. The results showed flashbacks to be
the most popular with 64% of the votes and
present time was second most popular with 18%.
This will be useful when planning our opening
scenes for the opening and how the audience
will react to certain types of opening scenes and
conventions.
3. The final question of the survey asks people
whether they enjoy being scared b thriller
movies. 45% of the votes went towards yes and
another 45% voted for sometimes. Form the
results we can analyse as a group that most
people from the target audience like thrillers to
scare them, drawing them in as a viewer. We will
consider this when using specific conventions in
our opening to cause a thrill and scare to the
audience.
