June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2. What is single camera
production
There is two types of camera formats these are single camera formats and also multi camera formats. Productions
which use single camera formats are used with one camera you can oftensee this format used in dramas comedies
and also documentaries. Single camera production is where each shot and also each camera angle is taken with the
one camera and has not used multiple cameras (Multi camera format) to get the different angles.
3. Advantages of single camera
There is so many advantages of using single camera for example it can save quite a lot of the budgt which could
go towards more equipment costumes and props etc. Using single camera also gives you more control when
shooting each shot this also include the sound and lighting in each shot. This also means that you have more
space on set which makes setting up the lighting and sound a lot easier because you have more space to get
everything set up. It also means that it is easier to capture different angles because there is more space on set
Using single camera production means that less people are needed to operate the camera which therefore
saves a lot of the budget money as they will not need to pay as much for personal as less people will be need to
be hired. This will also save space on the set as they will not be multiple people crowding around the cameras
due to the fact that less people will be needed on set at the same time. With advantages such as these it helps
you understand why most films use a single camera technique in production especially in tv series and
comedies when it would be rather hectic on set as there is a lot going on and in series there is a lot of things
that need to be hot in a short period of time and it helps out when there is less people crowded around on set.
4. Disadvantages of single camera
One of the biggest disadvantages of using single camera productions is that it often seems to get repetitive as
most scenes will need to be re shot multiple times in order to capture every detail and make sure that everything
that is in the scene is perfect. After a while this may start to get irritating especially if things keep going wrong as
they will keep needing to be reshot an because there is not more than one camera that is recording the scene this
may also lead to more unrealistic reactions. This is because the actors will have already done this scene multiple
ties so that they will not be able to act as realistically as they had done in the first scene
Editing will also be effected because you have to go through each and every take and shots to find which is the
best. AS well as this they may have to merge certain parts of each take in the scene in order to make it look as
realistic as possible this will also increase the time in which it will take to edit this is because they will have to wait
for the cameraman to finish shooting the scene before they can give the editor the footage. If they were to use
multi camera production they would be able to get the different angle shots earlier meaning that the editing could
begin at a sooner point in time which would therefor decrease the overall editing time
5. Camera techniques of single camera production
Snorrricam:
This technique could be used in multiple different ways to give the viewer an over the shoulder shot whilst the
character is moving, Another way in which this technique can be used is to capture facial expressions at any
angle which again can be done whilst they are moving.
Steadicam: This technique allows the camera operator to move freely no matter if they are running or walking
however the camera is still moving but the shots are completely smooth
Birdseye View: This is where the camera is being pointed down directly on the action which gives it an aerial
view on every bit of action that is happening during the scene.
Wormeye View: This is the opposite of the of the Birdseye view as in this view the camera is directly looking
up from the ground rather than looking down. This is to give the effect of something being bigger than others
There is 3 platforms which this is used these are Movies, Tv shows and also music videos
6. The use of single camera techniques
Single camera techniques are often used in films they are often used to join a number of tracking shots and
also panning shots. They are often used to establish the setting for the audience as it usually circulate the
room. They are also used due to the fact it is more simple than multi camera techniques. The choices of
comera formats can depend on what is being filmed for example in the 1960s many comedy movies such as
the office thae adams family etc was shot by using the single camera format
7. Brooklyn Nine Nine
https://youtu.be/HlBYdiXdUa8
The target audience for this tv series is mainly teenagers however it is something which people
from all age groups would enjoy. This particular clip uses single camera techniques which is
shown as the camera is zooming in and out of the characters face as It shows a number of
potential suspects lined up singing parts of the Backstreet Boys song I want it that way which
create quite a comedic atmosphere. The zooming in and out draws the audiences attention the
the specific character the camera is also being handheld which is shown as it appears to be
slightly shaky
8. At the beginning of the music video it shows a wide shot of benny blanco who appears to be rather
happy as he is sat waving straight at the camera. This shot is set up to emphasize the the main forcus
(Benny Blanco) aswell as showing the the surrounding environment. This often happens in the start of
video as they usually starts of with a wide shot to establish the surroundings rather than an instant close
up of the artist.
