Recognising the achievements of
Irish exporters
• Our Export Industry Awards programme is our flagship
event that takes place annually to celebrate and recognise
the achievements of exporting companies and highlights
the importance of the export sector to Ireland.
• This year marks the 20th year of our awards, we regret that
we had to postpone this years event in the interest of the
general health and safety of our members and the wider
business community.
• We look forward to the next year’s Export Industry Awards
programme which we hope to launch in Q1 of next year.

Will Brexit impact my businesses?
Brexit will affect your company if:
it sells goods or supplies services to the UK
It buys goods or receives services from the UK
it moves goods through the UK
it uses UK materials and goods to trade under preferential schemes with EU partner
countries.
• If one or more of the above applies, you should investigate if there are alternatives and
test them in advance of 1st January 2021

Using the UK landbridge
• The Irish Maritime Development Office in its 2018 report
The implications of Brexit on the use of the landbridge
found that:
The estimated volume of goods transported via the
landbridge annually is 3,055,553 tonnes, which consists of
1,031,384 tonnes of imports and 2,024,169 tonnes of
exports
strategically important route to market for many Irish
importers and exporters
Some sectors will be disadvantaged more than others by
any disruption to the landbridge. Deeper sectoral analysis
was required by the IMDO to fully understand these
impacts.
We are expecting a revised report shortly.

Trade between Ireland &
Northern Ireland
• The new customs formalities and regulatory requirements, such as SPS controls in
the case of food products that will apply to businesses moving goods from, to, or
through the UK, will not apply with respect to trade in goods between Ireland and
Northern Ireland
• The Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland states that while Northern Ireland will be
legally part of the UK customs territory, certain EU laws will apply in Northern
Ireland
• The Union Customs Code and legislation that protects the integrity and operation
of the EU single market apply
• Supersedes any agreement or no agreement on trade between the EU and UK
• Automatically comes into force when the transition period ends
• Review period of 4 years
• Unclear whether Northern Ireland will have access to EU FTAs.
