PLAN:
•I will explain the meaning of
metaphor.
•I will compare and contrast
similes and metaphors.
METAPHOR
A metaphor is the comparison of
two things not using ‘like’ or ‘as’
A word or phrase used to describe
somebody/something else, in a way
that is different from its normal use,
in order to show that the two things
have the same qualities and to make
the description more powerful.
Definition of Metaphor
• An extended metaphor is continued
over at least several lines of the
poem . When the whole poem
involves an extended metaphor we
can also call that the controlling
metaphor.
MIXED METAPHOR
• A metaphor that fails to make
a logical comparison because
its mixed terms are visually
imaginatively incompatible.
