2. Character of Okonkwo :
•Masculine person.
•Hates his father because he was a failure.
•Man of action ; a man of war.
•Belive that expression of feeling is feminine.
•To show affection was a sign of weakness; the only
thing worth demonstrate was a strength.
3. Character of Nowye
• Oldest son.
• Okonkwo believe that he is week and lazy.
• Like listening a story from his mother.
• Okonkwo believes that he ( Nowye ) has characteristics of his
father.
• With the arrival of Ikemefuna relationship between Nowey
and Okonkwo started being good. But after his death there
relationship becoming the same.
• Accepted the religion of missionaries.
4. Igbo Culture and people :
• Nigeria in the early 1990s.
• Igbo Culture.
• Nine village makes one clan.
• Religious people.
• Encompasses polytechnic religion, father – son in haritance,
farming tradition and believe in evil people.
• Having good unity among them.
5. Okonkwo as a symbol of Fire :
• Nikename : Roaring Flame.
• Symbolised potential, masculinity and life.
• Fire has other side as well.
• Incredible powerful but also destructive.
• Allow himself to show one emotion : Anger.
• Killing Ikemefuna, his son’s feminine nature bring emotional
destruction.
6. Living Fire begets cold, impotent Ash :
• This lines means that Fire always turn ash into
end.
• The anger of anything will end as destruction.
• In this Novel we can interprate that in three
way.
7. Fire : Okonkwo Ash : Nowye.
• When we look Okonkwo as a fire we saw Nowye becomes
the ash.
• The word begats in the proverb means that ( especially of
man ) bring ( a child ) into existence by the reproduction.
• Literary here manas that Nowey is ash.
• Okonkwo belives the same thing because he is masculine
person who never was failed in his life.
• On the other hand Noway was a feminine personality. And
also by accepting missionary’s religion he fail to resist for his
Culture.
8. Fire : Okonkwo‘s rigidity Ash : suicide
• He lived his whole life as a masculine person. Who never
had affected with no any emotions.
• But when he realized his failure he was not able to bare
that and committed suside.
• His whole life which he lived as fire and not shown any
emotions turns to end in Ash in life.
• He was also not able to accpted the change happened in
life and wasn’t able to go with the flow and also turn in to
Ash.
9. Fire : Igbo community Ash : colonial
time
• Igbo community were alone the follows all there tradition.
Also they have good unity among them. There culture here
becomes the fire.
• When the missionaries came they won’t able to save their
Cultural. Their unity is distroyed. And whatever they (
missionars ) brought with them they accept.
• Also they always claim about there Culture and unity but
when they see that Okonkwo committed suicide they forget
what he has done for community and follow their religion.
That also show there community turns into adh.
10. So what ?
• One Mistake and everything turns away into Ash.
• Also if one is not able to go with the flow then he
eventually turns into Ash.
• Fire is good till it is burning once it get cold then every
thing turn’s in Ash. And that will become of no use.
