This document presents statistical data comparing the characters of Mrs. Ramsay and Lily Briscoe from Virginia Woolf's novel To the Lighthouse. Various graphs show the percentage of times each character is mentioned, their presence by name, at the window, over time, in relation to the lighthouse, physically, and subconsciously. The conclusion is that while Lily is physically present more, Mrs. Ramsay is more present in people's conscious minds as she represents ideal womanhood, though it is difficult to escape societal expectations of gender.
