This Tutorial on express js middleware will walk you through all the topics like what is middleware, function of middleware and then we will be creating a middleware in express js. Middleware is a request handler that has access to the application's request-response cycle. It is a function that contains the request object, response object, and the next middleware function, Middleware can only be applied using routes. With the help of middleware, we can access and modify request and response, and we use functions to modity our middleware to perform many tasks. We can create a middleware in a router files but the best way is to create a middleware file separately and then use it, Creating and using middleware is very easy.

Real time web applications with SignalR (BNE .NET UG)brendankowitz
Static web pages and data don't cut it anymore. Information online is real-time and even web applications should respond to continuous changes. As SignalR has recently been introduced as a component to the ASP.NET runtime there's no better time to start building web application that respond to change. SignalR does all the heavy lifting and makes it easy to introduce into a wide range of projects, so pry your application out of the static mould and start responding to the real dynamic nature of information and changes as they occur.
Creating responsive and interactive web applications has always been one of my hidden dreams. One of the biggest show stopper has been the communication between server and clients. The rise of websockets now open some space for a brand new kind of applications; but we need a library that makes things 'easy' for us and that is able to fall back on previous solutions when the latest technologies are not available.
Suddenly on the ASP.NET scene appears SignalR: a persistence connection abstraction library that helps ASP.NET developers deal with 'real time' client-server communication sceneries.

IoT with SignalR & .NET Gadgeteer - NetMF@WorkMirco Vanini

Developing Revolutionary Web Applications using Comet and Ajax PushDoris Chen
Join the asynchronous web revolution! Because Ajax-based applications are almost becoming the de facto technology for designing web-based applications, it is more and more important that such applications react on the fly, or in real time, to both client and server events. AJAX can be used to allow the browser to request information from the web server, but does not allow a server to push updates to a browser. Comet solves this problem. Comet is a technology that enables web clients and web servers to communicate asynchronously, allowing real-time operations and functions previously unheard of with traditional web applications to approach the capabilities of desktop applications. This session will start to provide an brief introduction to the asynchronous web, AJAX polling, long polling, and Streaming, explaining the Bayeux protocol, Cometd, Grizzly Comet implementation on GlassFish. Different approaches and best practices to develop comet application will also be discussed. You will learn how to develop the chat application, how to implement distance learning slideshow application, how to manage a chat application from the server and how to develop a two-player distributed game application. Attendees will take away the tactics they need in order to add multiuser collaboration, notification and other Comet features to their application, whether they develop with Dojo, jQuery, jMaki, or Prototype and whether they deploy on Jetty, Tomcat, or the GlassFish Application Server.
Adding Real-time Features to PHP ApplicationsRonny López
It's possible to introduce real-time features to PHP applications without deep modifications of the current codebase.
Using WAMP you can build distributed systems out of application components which are loosely coupled and communicate in (soft) real-time.
There is no need to learn a whole new language, with the implications it has.
It also opens the door to write reactive, event-based, distributed architectures and to achieve easier scalability by distributing messages to multiple systems.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

SignalR With ASP.Net part1
1.
2. Topics Focused On!!!
• Traditional Web Approach
– Traditional Web Approach – Issues
• What does “Real Time” mean?
• SignalR
– Types of Transports
– Types of Connections
• How do I get SignalR?
• Demo
4. CLIENT
SERVER
Traditional Web Approach
Sends a Request to the Server – (Step 1)
[In other words, the Client is trying to
pull some information from the Server]
Processes
the Request
(Step 2)
Response Sent back to the Client – (Step 3)
5. • Not Persistent connection – Issues
Each time re-established for each communication.
• Http Request – Issues
7. What is Real Time Web Application?
• “Real Time” means an immediate response being sent by
the Server to the Client.
• Real Time is “Pushing” instead of “Pulling”
• Push Technology is completely different from Pull
Technology. Its about getting told what’s new, instead of
asking for what’s new!!!
8. CLIENT SERVER
User Sends a Request to the Server
Creates a Persistent Connection between them
Real Time Web Approach
Response Sent back to the Client
Response Sent back to the Client
Response Sent back to the Client
10. Long Polling
Server
Client
Request
Response
Variable delay
• Long polling does not create a persistent connection, but
instead polls the server with a request that stays open
until the server responds, at which point the connection
closes, and a new connection is requested immediately.
11. Forever Frames
• Internally creates an Iframe along with a
script on the page to fetch the data.
• The server then continually sends script
to the client which is immediately
executed, providing a one-way realtime
connection from server to client.
• Supported on IE Browser.
14. Server Sent Events
• Requires a single connection between Client-Server.
• Works in server-to-client direction only
• Used to send Message Notifications or Continuous Data
Streams.
• Support a lot of Browsers but Not supported in IE.
16. WebSocket
• A new HTML5 API that enables bi-directional, full duplex
communication between the browser and server.
• Fastest solution
• Issues
– Supported only on latest browsers
– Works only with IIS-8.0
17. SignalR
• SignalR is a library for ASP.NET developers. Used to
develop Real Time Web Application.
• Makes use of Push Technology.
• Provides Abstraction over the set of transports.
• Open Source available on Github!!!
21. Persistent Connection
• low-level control to manage connection.
• Contain events like “OnConnection”,
“OnDisconnection”, “OnReconnection”
• We can write our own logic in these events.
