WHAT IS SIGHT?
• Sight is the power of seeing.
• Sight enables us to intake the beauty around us.
• It allows us to observe or catch an initial glimpse of
something.
• Sight is the most important sense because it gives the
rest of the senses aid to their tasks as well.
• Sight gives us 80% of our stored information.
ORGANS INVOLVED/STRUCTURE
•

The eye is a unique sense
with lots of content to
make up it. The eye
includes three layers: the
sclera, cornea, and
conjunctiva. The sclera is
the white layer that gives
the eye its shape. The
cornea allows light to
pass through, (middle
layer). The conjunctiva
covers the posterior part
of the eyelid.
ORGANS INVOLVED/STRUCTURE
•

The choroid layer is
found in the middle of
the eye. It absorbs light
and it makes reflection
not occur. The iris, (the
colored part of the
eye), responds to light
by opening an closing.
The pupil is found
within the center of the
iris and it inhibits
under light.
ORGANS INVOLVED/STRUCTURE
•

The retina is the most
inner layer of the eye. It
consists of rods and
cones, (receptors). The
retina is sensitive to
light but it is also the
place that receives the
image. Rods are
associated with black
and white, while cones
are associated with all
other colors.
DISEASES/DISORDERS
•

Astigmatism is caused by the
curvature of the eye that is not all
the way round. No one is quite sure
of the cause, but it is treated by
corrective lenses or surgery.
Blurred vision and distorted vision
are caused by this disease.

•

Color Blindness is when the eye
cannot comprehend the normal
colors others view. It is generally
inherited by genes and can be
diagnosed through a simple test at
the doctor’s office.

•

Glaucoma is when damage is found
in the optic nerve. It is caused by
extreme pressure to the eye. It
results in a loss of vision.
Treatment may include eye drops
or surgery.
SIGHT
• Sight is clearly the best sense because it
really is the most important. Sight
connects to all the other senses and
without sight, the other senses would
struggle. We wouldn’t be able to intake
everything around us, from people to
scenery, 80% of our brains consist of
things we used from sight.
