4G/5G RAN architecture: how a split can make the difference
Current RAN architecture is undergoing a transformation to increase deployment flexibility and network dynamicity, so that networks will be able to meet the performance requirements demanded by applications such as extreme mobile broadband and long-range massive MTC. To stop total cost of ownership from soaring, the proposed architecture will be software-configurable and split between general-purpose and specialized hardware, in a way that enables ideal placement of networks functions.

NGFI (Next Generation Fronthaul Interface) native RoE (Radio over Ethernet)
This is a presentation and a demo for both NGFI (Next Generation Fronthaul Interface) native RoE (Radio over Ethernet) with Intra PHY split implemented in it, and CPRI over Ethernet encapsulated in structure agnostic mode. Compared to CPRI, the NGFI native RoE implementation improves bandwidth usage greatly, which better supports 5G applications demanding for higher bandwidth. In the CPRI over Ethernet demonstration, bidirectional CPRI flows are recovered without error, which enables C-RAN (centralized radio access network) architecture by using Ethernet as a transport network.

An agile and efficient mac for wireless access over tv whitespaces
This document proposes a new MAC protocol for wireless access over TV white spaces that accounts for diverse user locations and spectrum-dependent channel rates to provide fair data rates and efficient utilization. The proposed MAC architecture supports multiple radios at the access point to address the fragmented and limited bandwidth of the available spectrum. Simulation results show throughput gains of 30-76% and reductions in collisions of up to 80% compared to a standard Wi-Fi MAC. A prototype implementation demonstrates the feasibility and robustness of the new design.
