What do you think should be taught in schools but commonly isn’t?
OR to rephrase what if you had already learnt in school would have helped you now.

Respect.
Growing up I have never seen anybody (at least in the schools) teach Respect to the students.
If it’s taught that you should respect the individuals, their thoughts, their privacy, their religion, their jobs,
etc., I think half of the problems in the world are already solved.
I know that we study the teachings of some great gurus in the curriculum and most of them have
pointers like respect others and all that. But these are diluted and are not focused upon.

Table etiquette - Not just basics, but everything about it. table etiquette around the world.
Carpentry - I had this subject in college but the lab assistant did all our work for us. No one expected

Cooking basics - To be able to survive without having to eat Maggi/ordering takeout every day.(I

Practical learning instead of just theoretical bookish knowledge.
If this happens, no kid will be unemployed after growing up. He would have enough skills to take care of
his family instead of running before a job.
Even skills like fixing damaged mobiles, repairing cycle/bike/car, cooking, programming etc., can help at
later stage of life.

“Why” we are studying something?
How can learning Hindi poetry be good to someone? Why would you want to know how the world was
back in 1700? Where organic chemistry plays a role?
I believe if such things are answered (simply put, if application areas are explained) throughout the
curriculum for each subject or even for each topic, then you might start relating to something that you
want to do and something that you don’t. One can’t be sure about these things at a younger age, but
interest builds up slowly and knowing such behind the curtain scenes might work wonders.

Curiosity !!
In schools, generally you are expected to read your academics books, listen in class, make notes and
take your examinations.
What is not expected of you is “to ask questions out ofyour syllabus” (I mean so many questions that
your teacher gets frustated - What I’ve seen, they change the topic by saying "Meet me after full break
but they will “never actually” meet you )
So I think, children must be taught to be curious, to not limit themselves to bookish knowledge, to be
confident enough to speak in front of big masses, to be able to grasp things from here and there, to

of something new, something you don’t know beforehand.

This is just a small aspect of something that has gone overlooked for quite a while now.
The convenience being able to choose replacing something over spending time and effort in trying to fix
it has led us into what can be loosely termed as a “disposable society” (throw it away and get a new one
!! ).
These days, one would much rather buy (or ask their parents/guardian) to get them a replacement than
actually taking a minute to even think about trying to fix something.
I’m not suggesting getting the state of the art equipment for fixing literally everything under the sun, but
at least be able to have a mindset that things can be fixed (or the judgement of what could be).
Even basic things like shirt buttons, adjusting the length of a newly purchased belt (by yourself), or out of
the instances aptly quoted above.
Going further, this has a deeper connection to how we value things since we will eventually be aware of
the effort that making or fixing something involves, and as a subconscious response, a “careful” attitude
towards its use.
I am actually glad someone took the time to share such things, among the philosophical and other
[necessary] behavioral aspects.

I think it would be tremendously helpful if the homework or tasks given in the schools are given to
groups of students, rather than to individuals. It is also important that the groups be created randomly
and shuffled very often.
The child would learn social skills, ability to judge others, working in teams, understanding group
dynamics, adjusting, etc.
