SHOTTYPES

A-Level Media Studies
AtThe End OfThe Cul-De-Sac
All of the short film is shot using a drone so the whole film is
a kind of tracking shot.
Establishing shot:This shows us where the
short film will be set Medium Shot:
Birds eye view shot:
High angle shot:
Pan:
An establishing shot is used to set the location and to set the audience up for the
scene.
A birds eye view shot is used so that the audience can look down on the action, it is
used for dramatic effect and can make the subject look small and vulnerable and
this is what it shows of the man in this short film.
A medium shot allows the audience to see the characters body language and
emotion. Also, it allows the audience to see the costume which in this short film you
can see the crooked tie and shirt half untucked.
A pan is used to follow the action and in this case is used to show the people
watching the main character and to show them talking about him and then panning
back to the man to see what he is now doing.
A high angle shot is used to make the subject seem small showing that they are
vulnerable and powerless, this could foreshadow how the man is powerless to what
happens to him at the end of the film.
Emily
Close-up shot:This allows us to see the sadness on the main
characters face and her date reaction to her story..
Point of view shot:This lets us see what the character is
looking at to help the audience understand the scene a bit
more.
Wide Shot:This allows us to see
what is surrounding the main
character and tells us that she is at
a restaurant on a date.
In Emily not many different shots are used, a close up of the old woman's face is
continuous shot that is used at the star and mostly through out the film. This is to
show the emotion on her face as she tells the story of her ill husband and the
invisible woman he falls in love with.
Through out the film we see the sadness on her face which make the audience feel
sympathy for her and make a connection with her.
Then a wide shot is used to show where she is and who she is talking to, this is when
we find out she is telling this story on a date and that brings an element of humour
into the film, this make the audience laugh but then feel more sympathy for the
man who she is on a date with and telling her sad story to.
A point of view shot is to show what the character sees and it shows that the man is
very caring and is trying to comfort her which makes the audience feel empathy for
him and like him as a character.
All the shots in thee film are used to make the audience connect with character and
see the emotions surrounding the character and her story.
Pronouns
Establishing/ low angle shot:This allows us to see where the film
will be set and help us understand the main character more ass
from this we can infer that the character lives in a more lower
class place.
Medium close-up + hand held shot:
Medium shot:
Low angle shot: Wide Shot:
Close-up shot:
Over the shoulder shot: Canted Angle:
An establishing shot is used to set the scene and to show the location as to where the character is
and it gives away a little part of the characters background of what kind of place he lives in.
A medium close up is used to show the characters body language and through this we can see that
the boy is listing to music and is kind of trying to hide away and not to be disturbed which could
show that this character is more introverted and private.
The medium shot is used to show the characters body language which you can see is comfortable as
they friends so the are comfortable and it is used to show them having a conversation.
A low angle shot is used to make the subject look strong and powerful which are stereotypes of
men and so this could be trying to slash stereotypes as he is transgender and so is trying to subvert
stereotypes. It could also mean that he is strong and powerful for what he is about to do ass he is
about to show his actual self.
A wide shot could be used to show when he is crossing the road how small he is in the world as you
can barely see him in the shot and this could relate to how many transgender people are out or how
transgender people may feel, small.
A close up shot is used to show the characters facial expressions and to show the emotions of the
characters.
An over the shoulder shot is used to shows conversation between two people so you can see their
reactions.
A canted angle is to show unease or disorientation, and this can be shown in the film as you can see
that the main character is nervous about what he is about to do as it must be a big step for him.
Does Love Last Forever?
Establishing shot:
Over the shoulder shot:
Wide shot:
Very wide shot:
Close-up:
An establishing shot is used to set/start the scene.
A wide shot is used to show more details of where they are and what they are doing,
two wide shots are used at the beginning and the end of the film and they both
show similar scenes of when they were younger to when the were old showing they
are still the same and are still in love as they were back then.
A close up is used to show their facial expressions and emotions like at the
beginning you could see he was nervous through his facial expressions in the close
up.
A very wide shot could be used to show more of their location/ a different location
than last time which could be used to move the story along.
In this film some close ups are used to make it harder to hear the conversation they
are having to try and test the audience so it makes them harder to know if they are
still in love.
