This has an effect on the reader as they can feel the character’s emotions and tension felt.
Shot number 1:
This shot is an extreme close up, as it shows
the main character’s face and facial
expressions. We know that she is hiding as
you can see she is on the floor. This clearly
shows the audience that she is scared and
tense as she knows something bad is going to
happen.
She is crying and on the phone, telling us that
she has no clue what to do so she is ringing
for help. This intrigues the reader to watch on
and see what happens. Another reason this
shot was used to keep the focus on the
character, it also creates a claustrophobic
feel, as everyone needs a good space, this
makes the audience feel uncomfortable and
tense as do the character.

3. Shot number 2:
This is a low angle shot, which
is used to make the screen
seem big to you, to make the
scene feel more intimidating
and tense. This could have
been used to catch the
character’s emotions even if
she is moving. The camera
pans with her to end up under
the bed, showing where the
character will end up in the
next scene.
The effect it has on the
audience is that we feel like
we are hiding with the
character, and makes the
audience feel apart of the film.

4. Shot number 3:
This shot is a medium shot, this shot heightens
the stress and tension as he is on the mobile
phone but is worried, this makes the audience
feel the emotions that are felt. Combined with
the gloomy and dark atmosphere, as if the
shot is closing in to give the character focus as
it is the climax of the film.
Shot number 4:
This shot is a wide angle shot, to capture the
scene and character in the scene. This particular
shot was used as if we are the character looking
out of the window. This makes the audience
feel part of the scene. This scene also tricks the
audience that everything is ok and nothing bad
is going to happen, this is believed wrong.

5. Facial expressions: there is a lot of harsh, terrified facial expressions in the film Taken. A
lot of close up shots to show the emotions the girl was feeling etc.
Lighting: the lighting in Taken is shown to be harsh, as sometimes when it gives the
character focus, there is dark lighting to show ‘closing in’ or the feeling of being trapped.
This creates tension. Some settings are shown outdoors in natural light.
Costume: the costume shows their character in way of being ‘good and bad’ as the
kidnappers are dressed in black with boots, which immediately tells us danger. The main
characters are dressed in normal casual clothing.
Props: Props in Taken is mostly guns, spy gadgets,(listening devices etc.) Cars, to fit in the
particular scene of action in the film.
Setting: the setting is shot in Paris, France. The atmosphere, is loud suburban area, with
cafes, shops, and dark warehouses.
