Indian Water Rights Summary
This journal evaluates the nature of Indian water rights in their reservations. It also evaluates the
use of tribal sovereignty to protect water rights in Indian country. Indian country in the United
States uses their land for many hazardous practices to help their economic output. Their concern is
to maintain a good economic status by using their land that is not regulated by the states. The
Indian reservation was created for the benefit of the Indian tribes, not the U.S. government. Lately,
we have seen a lot of mining, oil gas, and fracking activities in their land.
This journal has an example that put the Fort Belknap Indian reservation to have the rights of the
Milk River to be use for future economical purposes (i.e. agricultural use). In 1888,The United
States Congrees reserved the rights of the Milk River to the Indian reservation. The non Indians that
settled next to the Milk River starting arguing that they were using the water from the river for
agricultural irrigation before the Indians. The non Indians believed that they had the right to use the
water. The Supreme Court explained to the non Indians that Indians had a reserved agreement that
put their farmer plans to be a priority. The Court... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

regulating environmental problems. While researching mining and oil gas practices in the United
States, I have seen that many of these locations are mostly in Indian country. Finding that the
federal government have given the power to control their water rights for future economical uses
makes me realize the reason why they have so many underground wells to either produce oil and
gas. Since I work for the EPA, I am currently working with the Uintah Ouray Reservation in Utah

Brutus s Actions In Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar Paper Brutus and his actions are well known across every culture. Brutus, a Roman
Senator, killed his best friend, Julius Caesar, in order to defend the people. These actions were
dramatized by a renowned playwright, William Shakespeare, in his famous play, Julius Caesar. To
craft his play, Shakespeare studied the real life events which occurred, and from them he created a
masterful work of art which is now famous across the globe. Shakespeare took references from
multiple sources, the largest of which was Roman author and philosopher, Plutarch. From Plutarch,
Shakespeare got his influence for the main characters; Julius Caesar, Brutus, Cassius, Antony, and
many of the conspirators. Both in the play and in real life, Brutus kills... Show more content on

From good character development, to a strong plot, it is a good story from start to finish. What
is up for speculation; however, is whether or not Brutus was acting out of his own free will or if
he was manipulated by Cassius when he killed Caesar. While the majority of people will try and
say that it was in fact manipulation by Cassius, which caused Brutus to choose to murder his
best friend, it was not this way. Brutus was far too intelligent to allow himself to be
manipulated. Also, he constantly clashed with Cassius. Furthermore, Shakespeare s play was
based off of real life events and real life people, Brutus was no exception. In real life, Brutus killed
Caesar of his own free will, and Shakespeare followed suit by having his version of Brutus also
kill Caesar of his own free will. There is no question about it, Brutus chose to kill Caesar of his
own accords, not because Cassius manipulated him into doing

What strategic alliances (including suppliers and market channels) has Xiaomi established in
China? What role do strategic alliances play in Xiaomi s international expansion? Xiao Mi came
up with a very well thought plan of a vast wide array of suppliers and market channels. China
was a retail dominated mobile device market. Any mobile phone manufacturer could choose
whether or not to get a space in retail store and sell phones to the public. Xiaomi had decided to
use online selling as their primary means of distibution on the purpose of lowering sales costs
and its products prices which proved to be a success in its domestic market(China). They
established partnerships with different suppliers that enabled them to cut cost and also opened
the door for a wide array of developing products which is more commonly called the internet of
things, their goal is to have different household devices to be controlled by their brand of
smartphone. For their market channels, it is so interesting that they relied more on word of
mouth which led their marketing only 3% of their budget. Strategic alliances played a big part in
Xiaomi s plan for expansion it enabled them to lower their cost particularly in India and they were
also able to establish some relationship even though they have some challenges they were able to go

Black History Month Rhetorical Analysis
America is a culture that enjoys having some time away from the reality of political issues within

Essay on Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption
Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on
the book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison
life in the movie is the best I have seen and a star studded cast including Morgan Freeman
supports the characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper
I will relate topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out
the semester. One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are
many movies that deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I
feel does the best job of giving you a real feeling of what prison life... Show more content on

In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that
seemed easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from
delivery drivers and the inmates themselves. It seemed to me that all of Shawshank was corrupt
in its ways. In prison there are different levels of confinement and this was shown to play a big
part in the prisoners life at Shawshank. If you were caught in the act of doing something against
the rules or in Andy s case, standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement
for a period of time. In the movie Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to
survive. This to me is a hell of a way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have
nothing to lose so even solitary does not break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with
is the idea of institutionalization. The idea that inmates that have spent so many years behind
bars that they can no longer function in a free society. I can only imagine how difficult it would
be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed, make yourself some food, and go to work in a
society that has passed you by. After forty or fifty years of inmate life you become depended on
the prison it becomes your world, your security. The example of this in the movie is

Unit 3 Paper: Black Skin, White Mask
In the book Black Skin, White Mask written by Frantz Fanon, the author analyzes the black
community under the rule of the white dominated culture. The book is a mixture of
psychoanalysis and personal experiences drawn from his personal life. While he was living in
France. He mentions experiences from his life and includes the theories from another physiologist
in order to explain culture. He is interested in explaining the consequences of a community and or
individual when the are ripped from their culture. He argues their culture becomes inferior to the
superior culture which is the oppressive culture. One of the key points he makes is the importance
of maintaining once language. The significance of adopting the language of the oppressive culture
means once is adopting their culture and the biological aspects of the culture. To speak means
above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization ( Fanon 17).
Frantz Fanon argues being forced to adopt and or assimilate to another culture is systematical
oppression. In his book Black Skin White Mask makes an analysis of colonized black people.

The U.S. Free-Enterprise Economy Essay
The United States is known for having a free enterprise economy where a business can be
conducted freely without government involved. In free enterprise economies, goods and services
are traded openly and are produced depending on the demand. People who support this type of
economy believe it motivates businesses to make money and welcome new ideas. An important
part of the economy is to have full employment and low inflation. Keynesianism and monetarism
are both ways to stabilize the economy and promote growth when need. In keynesianism,
government uses fiscal policy which is a list of policies that government spending and taxing can be
used to improve the performance of an economy. The government produces stabilization by taxing

This policy is results in faster results to speed up the economy for the short term. Fiscal Policy is
later used to develop a plan of yearly actions and is a long term way to stabilize the economy. The
next idea to stabilize the economy is a theory called monetarism which is the belief that if
government did not interfere with the market economy that employment would be high and
inflation low. Followers believe the government is the reason of downturns such as the recent
recession. Both of these policies, keynesianism and monetarism are important and supported by the
citizens. These ideas of how economy should be conducted both want to ensure a stable economy
for the people. That s where comparisons end and differences began. Monetarists want absolute
freedom in the economy from government interference. They insist that Keynesianism causes the
downturns because government it so worried about stabilizing the economy and doesn t let it fully
growth. Keynestists believe government should help aid the economy and can track it s progress.
Therefore a more structured policy is in place to provide aid in keeping stability from outside
interferences. Without the government watching, numerous problem can arise such are large
businesses taking over the small businesses which can lead to businesses closing and loss of jobs

Kubla Khan and Ode on Grecian Urn Essay
Although both Kubla Khan, by Samuel Coleridge and Ode on Grecian Urn, by John Keats are
poems originating from the poets inspiration from historical figure, the two poems convey
different messages through their respective metaphors. While Coleridge emphasizes on the
process of creating a Romantic poem, Keats expresses his opinion about art by carefully
examining the details of the Grecian urn. In Kubla Khan, Coleridge expresses his desire to use the
inspirations from nature to create his own Paradise of poetry(54, p.1634). In the first stanza,
Coleridge creates an exotic oriental garden, where the trees, gardens, hills, and the Alph river,
together present the beauty of Mother Nature (3, p.1633). Here, the poet carefully... Show more

With the formation of a rare device , symbolizing his masterpiece of poetry, Coleridge
acknowledges that poetry forms through the combination of nature and human perception. In
the end, Coleridge demands the readers to beware (49, p.1634) of the power of the inspired
poet, who recreates his own sunny dome (47, p.1634) in the protection of a circle round him
thrice (51, p.1634). The energy from nature is eventually transferred to the poet, the poet to use
his imagination to create his own Paradise (54, p.1634), which resembles Xanadu of Kubla
Khan. Through the metaphors developing in the poem, Coleridge pieces together the process a
Romantic poet creates a poem from the inspiration of a nature scene. Keats, on the other hand,
uses the Ode on a Grecian Urn to express his perspective on art by examining the characters on
the urn from either an ideal or realistic perspective. In the beginning, Keats asks questions
regarding the mad pursuit (9, p.1847) of the people on the Grecian urn. As the Grecian urn exists
outside of time, Keats creates a paradox for the human figures on the urn because they do not
confront aging but neither experience time; Keats then further discusses the paradox in the
preceding stanzas of the poem. In the second and third stanza, Keats examines the picture of the
piper playing to his lover beneath the trees (15, p.1847) and expresses that their love is far above
(28, p.1848) all human passion. Even though

Michel de Nostradame was born in Saint Remy de Provence, France on the year 1503. He

First of all, the poem starts with a question, Little Lamb, who made thee? William asks the lamb

The Departed Comparison
The movies Infernal Affairs (2002, directed by Andrew Lau) and The Departed (2006, directed by
Martin Scorsese), the latter being an adaptation of the former, are surprisingly similar films overall.
The discrepancies between the two motion pictures are only easily seen when analyzing the
difference in the narrative, plot and cinematography used within each film, while taking into account
the influences of the differing cultures that the two films were created in (i.e. location of creation).
Due to the differing locales: China (Hong Kong) for Infernal Affairs and the United States (Boston)
for The Departed, the unique and different cultures influenced the modification that took place in

Romance, as seen in Infernal Affairs and The Departed, are highly different. In the former, it is
barely touched at all and most love interests are chaste whereas in the latter it is much more
explicit. Throughout The Departed, it is apparent that sexuality goes hand in hand with
masculinity: as expressed by Sullivan mocking the firemen for being gay when the police
department loses to a football game. Most insults and threats invariably involve sexual references
unlike Infernal Affairs. One interesting thing to analyze between the two films, is the
psychological stress that is shown and acted out by the characters in the films. While The
Departed is a longer film, it is slightly less psychologically nuanced than Infernal Affairs. Sullivan
is not shown as truly evil, but his speculations are never really scrutinized. Costigan is easily seen
conflicted, but that stems from his fear of being discovered and killed. In Infernal Affairs, it is
somewhat clear that both Lau and Chen are feeling a disconnection between their internal and
external self, stemming from their involvement in spying. The borderline between a police officer
and a triad member becomes easier to cross. This shows the influence of culture on the overall film,

Blockbuster Video or Netflix This case started as Blockbuster Video but has morphed to include

from the perspective of either company. Just specify which perspective to use. In 1985,
Blockbuster Video (now a subsidiary of DISH Network ticker: DISH) quickly became a
sensation. Households had just begun to acquire video tape players in earnest. Few people were

With the new approach, customers only cared about the new releases. That meant that
Blockbuster needed to buy hundreds of copies of a single title. But, at $65 a tape, those costs
were high and after about a month, people moved on to rent the next release, so the store no
longer re ceived money to cover the original purchase price. In 1997, CEO John Antioco found a
solution. He negotiated a deal with the leading Hollywood studios. Blockbuster would purchase
tapes for $6 upfront, then give the studios 40 percent of the rental revenue. The deal gave
Blockbuster a huge advantage in the market for new releases. Blockbuster advertised that
customers would always find specific new release titles in stock, or they would get a free rental
on the next trip. Competitors could not match the cost savings. About 2,500 of them (10 percent
of the U.S. market) went out of business [Harnish 2003]. The deal also required Blockbuster to
carry every title released by the studios [The Wall Street Journal 2001]. The interesting point of
videos is that by 2000, the movie studios were making more money at the rental counter than at
the theater. Home video was bringing in $2.9 billion in revenue, versus $2.2 billion in the theaters.
So, the studios had a huge incentive to build stronger ties with the leading video rental company.

Essay 1 Reflective Essay Final
Home
The surprizing thing that I recognized when I studied at college is the way people greet each
other around the world. After asking someone about name, we usually inquire about where he or
she is from. I believe that we ask, not just to indentify the location of where our acquaintances live,
but because we realize that their answers tell more about them. My answer for the question where
are you from? is always Vietnam, my home country. For every Vietnamese like me, home is an
important and meaningful part of our life. It becomes a vital part in our culture. The more I live far
away from my house, the more I know how it is important to me. Moreover, I acknowledge that
not only our homes define who we are but we also define our homes.
In the essay Peeling bananas , Wendy Lee uses reflection to support her argument that it is hard to
live in two different cultures. By using her own experiences and comparing the life in two cultures,
she shows us her difficulties of living in America. In the same way, my essay reflects on the various
perspectives of people from Vietnam and America about the meaning of home; and then I apply
compare and contrast method in my essay to point out how cultures affect our opinion about home.
I still remember a year ago, in the cold winter day when I first came to America; I and my sister
looked so tiny in thick, coarse sweaters. In the middle of

He is brave enough to defeat the Spain and bring peace and freedom to the people in 1821. Now
the Mexicans got the freedom back, thanks to Miguel. Mexicans celebrated this event every year,

The Slavic Pope s Return to Poland: An Analysis of language and common themes used by the
pope to influence Poland
Introduction Thesis: A Slavic Pope Stands behind the Iron Curtain
Bells tolled and Poles exclaimed as their native son, Karol Jozef Wojtyla, returned to his
homeland on June 2, 1979 for the first time as Pope John Paul II. Upon his arrival to OkД™cie,
the location of the Warsaw Airport, Pope John Paul II knelt and kissed the ground of his beloved
homeland. Huge crowds of Poles lined the streets of Warsaw as Pope John Paul II moved to
Victory Square to prepare for Mass. Many people could not believe that such a hopeful figure had

The will of the Polish people now led the state. The Polish people realized during Pope John Paul
s first papal visit to Poland that the communist state had legitimacy only through fear and
propaganda. Many Poles came to this realization when following the television coverage of the
papal visit because the communist state covered the event as if the visit was only a small
gathering. The communist officials covered the event in such a way to control the public s
reaction to the pope s visit, but the Poles in attendance realized the deception the communist
officials were using in the television coverage of the event. Pope John Paul s visit to Poland
seemed prophetic to the Poles. They now had a world leader willing to oppose the ills of their
communist state. Pope John Paul expressed the positive outlook he had for the Polish people
when he said, I am asking all of you, through the great Eucharistic prayer, that Christ will not
cease to be for us an open book of life for the future, for our Polish future . Pope John Paul invested
in the Polish people and his language of love eventually broke through in the communist state of

The Importance Of Guilt And Survivors Of The Holocaust
In 1944 during the Holocaust a girl named Rose F. which see was 19 and her sister was 14.They
were both taken into a camp Rose would also tell her sister If you don t eat,you will die.Later in
the days they were both taken into different camps and separated apart from each other. As they
would go to a gate and meet their Rose would always give her sister food they she would
eat. Then the time that they had met each other the german soldiers might have seen Rose and
her sister. So her sister ran back to the camp. Then the next day and day after her sister had never
came back to her by the fence. That Rose had felt guilty because she thinks that it is her fault that
the soldiers could have killed her sister. i felt guilty for many years that maybe I should have run
back and tried to get her with me or stay with her. Maybe I didn t do enough to stay together Many
people argue that survivor s guiltis needed to define the survivor s guilt. Some people believe that
survivor s guilt is necessary.Others feel that survivor s guilt is not.Survivor s of life and death
situations should feel survivor s guilt. That survivor s guilt is a deep sense of guilt, combined often
with feelings of numbness and loss of interest in life, felt by those who have survived some
catastrophe. It was first noticed among survivors of the Holocaust.

To Shoot Hard Labour 2 Summary
The story To Shoot Hard Labor 2 is the continuation of the first book To Shoot Hard Labor which
recounts the life and times of Samuel Papa Sammy Smith, a hard working Antiguan man who lived
from 1877 1982. The book was written by Keithlyn and Fernando Smith continuing with their
journey portraying the story of life in the plantation in Antigua not long after slavery. The story tells
how the ex slaves defended themselves with pride and their symbol of freedom. How the
planters finally accomplished in erasing, nearly without a trace, the symbol of the free people,
and how they were forced to go back to the plantation. The new To Shoot Hard Labour 2 gives more
detail of lives of black people in western world and Caribbean as a whole. This new book likewise
brings a clearer understanding of the everyday life of our people as they endeavor to defeat
colonialism, slavery and other contemporary issues. The book also expresses about the sort of

Essay about Adam Walsh Act
Adam Walsh Act.
The case of six year old Adam Walsh is perhaps one that will never leave the minds of anyone
initially horrified by its details. In 1981 young Adam was kidnapped from a local mall and
regardless of tireless efforts by his parents John and Reve Walsh, volunteers, and law enforcement;
Adam fell victim to murder. Two weeks after the boy went missing, his decapitated head was
located, but his body was never found. This prompted his father John Walshto start a campaign and
legislature policy submission toward more stringent accountability for child crime offenders. The
murder transformed John Walsh s life, turning him from a middle class hotel marketing executive

Issues Presented for Provisionary Inclusion
Sex Offender Registration Act (SORNA)The Adam Walsh act has several other provisions
including Title I, the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act or ( SORNA ). Under this
portion SORNA established a new federal sex offender registration framework and SORNA made
two major changes to federal sex offender registration policy (Morse, 2009). This portion of the act
is currently in question for the following reasons:
1. Subsection (1) provides registration requires persons convicted of a sex crime under either
federal or state law to register.
2. Section 16913provides that a sex offender must register and keep the registration current in each
jurisdiction where he or she resides, is an employee, or is a student. (Morse, 2009).
Two provisions of the act violate principles of federalism:
1. A provision providing for the civil commitment of sexually violent predators, and a provision
creating a new federal failure to register crime for federal sex offenders.
2. Section 4248 authorizes the

The Composition and Publication History of Samuel T....
The Myth of Fragmentation The Composition and Publication History of Samuel T. Coleridge s
Kubla Khan
Although the exact date remains unknown, it is believed that Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote his
poem Kubla Khan sometime in the fall of 1797 and began revisions of it in the early spring of
1798. Interestingly, although no original manuscript has been found, the Crewe Manuscript of Kubla
Khan was discovered in 1934. Currently, the Crewe Manuscript is the earliest know version of
Kubla Khan and is believed to have been written around 1810. After Lord Byron s zealous response
to Kubla Khan, Coleridge published the poem for the first time in May of 1816 under Byron s
publisher John Murray. While the poem was initially bound with two of... Show more content on

Coleridge firmly believed that Kubla Khan was an incomplete poem, and therefore, spent his entire
life continually revising and republishing it.
During the time that Coleridge composed Kubla Khan, biographer Richard Holmes documents
that Coleridge must have been producing something like fifty lines of blank verse a day, and a
tremendous sense of liberation cam over him. In the late 1790s, Coleridge resided in the Quantock
Hills of Somerset near his close friend and fellow poet William Wordsworth. Holmes argues that,
it was some time during this first fortnight in October 1797 that he probably went for a long
solitary walk along the coast to Lynton, exhausted from his labours, and, taken ill on his return
journey, stopped off at Ash Farm above Culborne Church, where he wrote Kubla Khan.
After writing his first draft of Kubla Khan, Coleridge was unable to finish the poem to his liking,
and consequently, dismissed it as an incomplete fragment. On October 14th, 1797, Coleridge wrote
a letter to his friend John Thelwall, stating,
my mind feels as if it ached to behold know something great something one indivisible and it is
only in the faith of this that rocks or waterfalls, mountains or caverns give me the sense of sublimity
or majesty!
For the remainder of his life, Coleridge believed that he was unable to aptly reproduce this sense of
sublimity or majesty.

The I Drove My Friend s Diesel Station Wagon
The first time I drove my friend s diesel station wagon, I was impressed. How it seemingly sipped
single droplets of fuel amazed me. In contrast, my father s pickup truck guzzles gasoline like a
drunkard downs alcohol. In our time of expensive petroleum and tight environmental
restrictions, an automobile that can travel farther with less fuel means everything. Today, the
very word diesel is synonymous with efficiency and reliability, and most importantly, savings for
the people. But throughout our country s history, diesel has seen storm and calm, rain and
shine. To understand its significance to us in the 21st century, we must explore the history of
the word, from how it came to be, to how it has defined hope and progress, disdain and
disappointment, advancement and recognition. Most of all, we must examine its relevance to
people of the times. In the Oxford English Dictionary, diesel is defined as a type of internal
combustion engine invented by Rudolf Diesel. ( Diesel ) In 1893, Mr. Diesel patented the first
working prototype of his concept, created with the goal of overcoming the major drawback of the
gasoline engine, high fuel consumption. As Diesel collaborated with manufactures to build upon
his designs, the automotive world quickly realized the advantage of such an engine. Diesel s
engines were capable of running on a variety of fuels that were cheaper than gasoline, including
tar oil, paraffin oil, and kerosene, and using less of it. They also proved to be

Jacob And Rebekah Research Paper
Jacob (born around 2000 BCE) was the grandson of Abraham, the son of Isaac and Rebekah and
twin brother to Esau. Their family lived in Canaan, later called Israel, between modern day Egypt

his uncle Laban as shepherd and manager of his affairs. He married both his cousins, first Leah
then Rachel and had twelve sons. Jacobdied at a very old age in Egypt.
Isaac asked his first born Esau to hunt for a delicious meal for him, after which he would give
him a special blessing which passes the promises of God (which had first been given to Abraham)

meal, and Isaac gave him the blessing instead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Final term Paper for ECE 5343 Power Systems Engineering
Abstract: This report contains details on the reactive power compensation techniques for fixed
speed wind turbines as well as the inherent reactive power support provided by the variable speed
wind turbines. This paper also reviews the latest grid codes and requirements for reactive power
support by wind farms. In the end this paper provides quantitative calculations for determining the
reactive power compensation needed for unity power factor operation by a fixed speed squirrel
cage induction generator based wind turbines.
Keywords: Reactive power support, fixed speed, variable speed, Wind Turbine, Grid code
1. Introduction Since the last decade, there has been an increased growth in the electricity
production through wind power [8]. Such increasing penetration levels of wind power in to the
total generation mix has raised several concerns to the transmission system operators. Some of the
issues related to large scale grid integration of wind power causing concern to the transmission
system operators are low voltage fault through capability, voltage support during large disturbances
and unity power factor operation [7]. This has made the regulators and transmission system
operators to introduce new grid standards and requirements for wind farms to make sure the

The Effects Of Pornography And Relationships
Pornography and Relationships Nowadays, we see sexual images through advertisements, movies,
social media and books everyday to an extent that these images are considered normal. Many
people argue that watching porn can hurt and destroy relationships. According to many doctors and
researchers, pornography can be harmful for one s body and their relationships. Studies and
surveys show that women are the ones who are affected by male porn the most. Although this
debate is not a new subject, it is far from resolved. The majority of women are unhappy with the
fact that their partners view pornographybecause they believe that porn reduces the relationship
commitment. On the other hand, some argue that watching porn can actually help to improve
sexual needs in relationships. Looking at the studies and researches, it is clear that watching porn
is more harmful than beneficial for a relationship. Peg Streep, the author of What Porn Does to
Intimacy article, reasons why viewing pornography is bad for romantic relationships. She believes
that pornography should not have a role in serious relationships, and she supports her claim by
using different studies and researches. Streep writes that the number of men who think that
watching porn is okay when they are in a relationship, are much more than women who have the
same mindset. Streep points out three reasons why she believes that porn can hurt relationships.
The first reason is that couples who watch porn alone are more likely to

Free Will Definition
The concept of free will fundamentally breaks down into the interpretation of its two constituent
words. The word free is a direct link to the concept of freedom, which Descartes describes as the
ability to do or not do something . (O Connor) Freedom is not constrained. There can be no limits
placed on it, lest it lose the fundamental nature of its definition. Hume reasoned that the sense of
freedom linked to free will was that of liberty. that liberty is not a power of acting, but a power
of choosing. If I can do what I want, but I can t choose what I want, then perhaps I am not free
(Lacewing 5) I accept this is the more complete ideal of freedom, because it encompasses what free
will ought to be. It also raises interesting questions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(174) These tend to be determinisms that govern individual action, on a more personal level.
The second facet of determinism is known as global determinism.(174) These include physical,
theological, and logical determinism. Each of these address the idea of determinism from a
grander scale, where actions and events, surrounding an individual, are directly impacted by
larger principles outside of the control of the agent. For example, physical determinism is when
everything that exists or occurs is simply an arrangement of physical particles that conform to
the laws of physics. Our tossing and failing to swish the paper ball in the waste basket was
caused by a number of other events, which includes our choosing to toss the paper, which was also
determined by other factors leading up to our decision. Theological determinism claims everything
to be pre determined by God, which is another essay all in itself. Logical determinism was
described as whatever happens later could not have been otherwise, and can not contradict the truth
value of whatever sentence or claim we make at the moment. This form of determinism is important

The Vampire, By Anne Rice
For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented as monstrous
creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and cause terror until they were
ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly given more human characteristics, but it
was Anne Rice who radically humanized the vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in
some ways, represents an improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976),
Anne Rice juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other vampires
in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking morality. Although Louis was
a vampire for most of the novel, he represented humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner:
through his struggle to find meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious
beliefs, believed had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview
with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the novel, he also
made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity by attempting to find
happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis experienced his brother seemed to set
the theme for the rest of his life. Paul, his brother, killed himself after Louis refused to believe that
Paul s religious visions were real and; therefore, refused to sell the indigo plantations. Louis blamed
himself for the death of

The Civil War And The Emancipation Proclamation Essay
Life for was harsh and arduous following up towards gaining freedom and after becoming a

political, social, and economic effects of slaves getting their freedoms back many bills or
propositions were made to oppose the reform movement. The context of the time period was pre
civil war and during the early 19th century where many large movements in religion, economy

slavery were usually in the northern part of the united states and were civil rights activists. The
Fugitive Slave Acts were a pair of federal laws that allowed for the capture and return of runaway
slaves within the territory of the United States. Enacted by Congress in 1793, the first Fugitive
Slave Act authorized local governments to seize and return escaped slaves to their owners and
imposed penalties on anyone who aided in their flight. Widespread resistance to the 1793 law later
led to the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which added further provisions regarding
runaways and levied even harsher punishments for interfering in their capture. The Fugitive Slave

it, really. I ve never read anything by this author before so I had no idea what to expect.
The book was about Samantha Jones and her son Tyler, and about how they were pulled into the

into it. He is a member of the FBI, going undercover as a former member of the FBI, one who was

I would also take out the part of the book between Sam and Danny that wouldn t be very good for
children, so that more people can watch the movie. There s a lot more, but too many for right now.
Samantha Jones has long black hair and dark blue eyes, and pale skin. She s also very pretty, as
many male characters in the book have said about her. Sam is really stubborn, protective, and
mature. Not to mention snarky, she has been very rude to Danny because she believe he s a
dangerous criminal. Danny is more loose, he likes to be... not stuck up. He jokes a lot and calls
Sam Baby Doll all of the time. He has brown hair and tan skin, as he was described in the book, he
has a worked out body.
Tyler is just adorable, the way I picture him. Hair and eyes matching his mothers he is playful
and smart. He listens to his mother and knows what to do in case of an emergency, he is always
very happy and high spirited. Samantha would be played by Jennifer Connelly because her dark

Alcohol In College Sports
How can alcohol influence someone at a college football game? Does alcohol give someone a
good reputation or regrets? Alcohol can make you act a certain way. Football games should be
fun and enjoyable to watch without trying. In my opinion, alcohol at college football games can
cause bad decisions, foul language, and effects on others to and from. Alcohol is a drug that will
make you do bad decision when you drink too much. Not only do you make bad decisions with

The Political System Of Alexander II
Alexander II also established trial by jury, relinquishing authority to a judicial system independent
of the the autocracy. However, the influence of socialism had spread to St. Petersburg intellectuals
from Germany and France, and Constitutionalism was seen as insufficient. The importance of
political system became less important, as concerns over social and economic forces moved to the
forefront. Socialism seemed appealing to Westernizers due to the application of modern European
thought, while traditionalists saw it as a return to the old Russian populist values.
The rift between the aristocracy and the general public had become completely unbridgeable. The
intelligentsia and nobility had grown to hate one another, each feeling as though the survival of
Russia depended on the destruction of the other. On March 1, 1881, after seven other attempts,
Alexander II was assassinated. Ironically, the most liberal Tsar of the century had become the
primary target of radical revolutionaries, and was killed mere hours after approving the Loris
Melikov reform which established a national representative body. Before his death, he asked that he
be taken to die in the Winter Palace. Due to the death of Alexander II, Alexander III devoted his
thirteen year rule to quashing any rebellion toward the autocracy. He instituted a police state, and
revoked the Loris Melikov reform. He refused to live in the Winter Palace, as he found it to be too
stark and cold. Instead, he took residence

William Apess An Indian s Looking-Glass For The White Man
William Apess s essay, An Indian s Looking Glass for the White Man, serves as a prime
representation of this 19th century Pequot writer s common theme white man s behavior
contradicts the peace and equality their God promotes. Apess s burning sense of betrayal by the
white culture and faith he was raised beside is expressed through bold rhetorical strategy, imagery,
stylistic tendencies, and his preacher like tone. This tension builds throughout the essay, albeit
important factors set the essay s mood immediately in the first paragraph. Apess begins his work
by declaring the Indian and the white man are one in the same under God. The opening words,

Pop R B Group Destiny s Child Before Embarking On A...
One of the most recognizable figures in contemporary music, BeyoncГ© rose to fame as the
central member of pop R B group Destiny s Child before embarking on a multi platinum, record
breaking solo career in 2001. Booming record sales, Grammy awards, movie roles, and marriage
to rapper/CEO Jay Z combined to heighten her profile in the 2000s. Billboard named her female
artist of the decade, while the RIAA acknowledged that, through 64 gold and platinum
certifications, she was the decade s top selling artist. Once she released her fifth solo album in
2013, it was evident that the singer, songwriter, and dancer wasn t merely an entertainer but a
progressive artist as well. Born in Houston in September 1981, BeyoncГ©+В¬ Giselle Knowles
began performing at age seven, winning over 30 local competitions for her dancing and vocal
abilities. She joined her cousin Kelly Rowland and classmates LaTavia Roberson and LaToya
Luckett in forming an adolescent vocal group. Mathew Knowles, BeyoncГ©+В¬ s father and
Rowland s legal guardian, signed on to be the girls manager, eventually quitting his full time job to
focus on their efforts. This situation would ultimately lead to the creation of one of the most
popular female R B groups of all time Destiny s Child. Destiny s Child gained momentum
throughout the 90s. They appeared on Star Search in 1992 (under the name Girls Tyme) and
weathered several lineup changes before signing to Columbia in 1997. Four studio albums later, the

Video Games Feature Violence
Videos games that feature violence do contribute to oppositional defiant disorder, conduct
disorder and other childhood problems. The reason why is because children at a young age
should not be witnessing any kind of violence. One of the reason is children are in the learning
process. Therefore whatever they see, or watch, they will apply that to real life situation. That is
how most TV programs are being paid for. For example, Dora The Explorer, it teaches kids how
to say things or do things. Therefore, kids will grow up assuming that whatever they watch is okay
in real life situations. It s not just what they watch that will affect their growing but also how they
feel about what they watch or play. For example, when playing any games, there... Show more

Lucretius Book 3 Essay
The chart above shows how Lucretius arranged his poem to combat his two main targets: the fear
of death the fear of the gods. In Books 1 2, Lucretius expounds upon his atomic theory of
indestructible particles, which cause an everlasting cycle of combination and separation, creation
and destruction, and birth and death. Everything in the universeis composed of these particles, thus
everything is mortal. Book 3 is dependent on the two previous books as it brings the ethical
implication to the fore by discussing the nature of the soul and its mortality. The culmination of
Book 3 therefore death is nothing to us makes explicit the crux of atomic theory set out in Books 1

Book 4 begins with a large passage borrowed from Book 1 (1.926 50 = 4.1 25). The repetition of
the passage in the beginning of Book 4 forces the reader to reflect on the previous three books
and reminds the reader of the author s purpose and methodology, namely the use of science and
poetry. Lines 4.26 32 review what has preceded, but since I have taught... , and then lines 4.33 45

Lucretius takes on his next task to free man from superstition, namely the belief that the gods
influence the world or that man influences the gods. The whole poem could be viewed as
supporting this view as Lucretius in Books 1 2 is explaining this atomic system in order to show
that the world is composed in entirely materialistic terms, lacking the need of divine intervention.
This is made explicitly clear in the first book: nothing comes from nothing by divine influence

The Pros and Cons of Ethanol Essay
A large part of the alternative fuels boom has been a part of civilization for thousands of years:
ethanol. The same substance that makes alcoholic beverages intoxicating is also a useful fuel.
Ethanol s potential as a motor fuel has been known since the first internal combustion engines
were made; The Ford Model T was able to run on gasoline, ethanol or any mix of the two
(Bettelheim 802). As the use of automobiles grew from the 1900 s to the 1920 s, it was found that
petroleum was a cheaper fuel source than ethanol (Bettelheim 802). Ethanol was mixed with
gasoline to improve the fuel s octane rating until the 1920 s, when oil companies stopped using it
because fear of being labeled as bootleggers. Ethanol had a brief resurgence... Show more content

The 2007 Energy Act also adds a requirement that a portion of the RFS is met with biofuels other
than ethanol from corn starch. The amount mandated for 2006 is four billion gallons of corn
ethanol, and this will gradually expand to thirty six billion gallons in 2022, of which twenty one
billion gallons must be from sources other than corn starch (19). To provide a basis for
comparison, in 2004 about 136 billion gallons of gasoline were consumed in the US and about
two billion gallons of ethanol (Yacobucci 8). Ethanol is mainly consumed in two forms in the
US. Most ethanol sold in the US is in a mix of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline called E10
(Yacobucci 8). Any car is able to run on this, and it is currently being sold in much of the
country. The ethanol works as an additive to help the gasoline burn more cleanly, improves
performance, and provides energy as a fuel. The other less common form is E85, which contains
85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Modern cars must be specially designed to run on E85. Many
newer models of cars are designed as such, and these are called flex fuel vehicles. There are two
common methods to make ethanol from corn (Rendleman 6). They mostly differ in the way that
the corn is prepared. The first step is to grind the corn. In wet milling, the starch containing kernels
of corn are separated from the other parts before grinding, since the starch is the only part of the
corn that will convert to ethanol

The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles
In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central
themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the
central message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between
siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family,
pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophoclesprimary play, OedipusRex, the relationship
between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through
antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would
kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a
prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and
Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write.
With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of
Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his
perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to
the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together
providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships
shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could
get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more dramatized plot
to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays that can
unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits shows a
son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of
creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the
family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and
Eteocles, Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of
the King position. Eteclos has claimed the

Patient Confidentiality Essay

The Coded of Ethics for Nurses is the framework of nonnegotiable ethical standards and obligations
that all nurses are to uphold. Nurses are to be accountable for their actions and are expected to
advocate and strive to protect the rights, health and safety of patients (American Nurses

According to the ANA (American Nurses Association), it is the duty of nurse to protect the patient
s rights, safety, health and advocate for the patient. By treating the patient in an open area, invades
their privacy, can cause embarrassment and most of all jeopardize trust between the patient and
care giver. This negligent care could also lead to legal ramifications in the future against the hospital
. By breaking this trust, the patient may also omit valuable information that could affect their
treatment ultimately causing them harm. Some patients may become noncompliant with their
prescribed treatment. It is essential that effective communication between patient and care provider
occurs at all times. . Healthcare providers are obligated to give safe and effective care.
As an effective and ethical leader, it is of most importance that they create and foster an ethically
principled environment. In this scenario, the importance of patient confidentiality would be
identified and addressed with all staff members of the health team. Ethical behaviors would be
discussed with each team member in order to ensure that the healthcare needs of the patient are
met as well as their privacy protected. A new process would be implemented so that patients
would be identified by assigned numbers instead of identified by name. Also it would be enforced
that no patient be treated in an open area unless some

To Tackle Football Analysis
To Tackle Football Death was in the air at the home of The Hurricanes . The confetti was
beginning to settle on the spray painted fields, and so was our laughter as we started to realize
the magnitude of the situation. Carlos might be dead. But that couldn t be, the hit didn t seem
that hard considering the newly designed helmets UM received. They were suppose to be
patented to the new NFL guidelines, so that means visors, padding, concussion indicating
mouthguards, the whole package. And no NFL player has ever died on the field...or that I can
think of. With all those improvements, why didn t Carlos get up? Why did he have to be pulled
out in a stretcher with an AED attached to his chest? Why didn t Carlos live to play another
game? Football is one of America s favorite pastime; the tradition goes: local game Thursday
night after work, then Sunday night the family gathers around the TV with finger food for a
round of jubilating cheers and cries. Almost anyone can play football from boys to girls, young to

The United States Health Care
The United States health care system has attempted to bring its health care structure into a
position fitting of the richest nation in the world. Yet, evidence suggests that socioeconomic
disparities still exist, and access to care is still an issue even for citizens who have enrolled in
health care plans (Delgado, 2015). Access to health care should be considered a basic right, a
natural right for everyone. In 2008 T.R. Reid traveled to 5 countries that were among the richest in
the world and provided universal health careaccess in some fashion. Here we will use Ried s
(2008) findings to discuss distributive justice, vulnerabilities and the human right to health care.
Theories of justice have an important role in how citizens access health care. The the countries
presented by T.R. Reid (2008) generally have applied the distributive theory of justice, where
lawmakers have decided how to distribute health care as a resource among their constituents
(Summer, 2014, p. 52). In this case the lawmakers decided that all citizens should benefit from
universal access to health care. Health care consumes financial resources and will always struggle
to provide the highest quality at a rate its consumers can afford. Taiwan and Japan know this quite
well as they struggle with deficits (Reid, 2008, videos #2 and #4). The struggle to balance the
budget itself is an example of distributive justice, as Summers (2014) wrote, ...see the difficulty of
the task of distributing the burdens of

The Importance of Government Infrastructural Investment...
How Important is Government Infrastructural Investment for Nuclear Power Generation?
Introduction
In an era when many industry analysts project peak oil will be reached by mid century or sooner,
identifying opportunities to promote alternative energy sources assumes new importance and
relevance. This paper provides a review of the relevant literature to determine the importance of
government infrastructural investment for nuclear power generation. The research will show that
these investments are widely regarded as essential because of the high costs of nuclear development
and power generation. A discussion concerning the form government involvement assumes in the
form of policy statements regarded nuclear power is followed by an assessment concerning whether
detailed regulation should be used for the approval of nuclear plant designs, operating practices,
nuclear fuel supply arrangements, sponsoring nuclear research development, and ownership control
of enrichment reprocessing facilities. Finally, an evaluation of what economic influences
concerning nuclear development views versus fossil fuel power generation is followed by a
summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Analysis Although governmental infrastructural investment in nuclear power
generation facilities has been traditionally considered vital, there are other types of governmental
investments in the industry, including policy statements. Governmental policymakers in the

Satire On Homelessness
omelessness does not discriminate; it can affect people from all walks of life no matter sex, race, or
religion. Last year alone, more than 3.5 million people experienced homelessness. Thirty five %
affecting families with children and mental illness contribute to the lowest at twenty% (Students
against Hunger). There are many different homeless population in between, such as military
veterans, children under the age of 18, and those that have experienced domestic violence just to
name a few. Homelessnessis a social problem because it depletes federal funding, increases taxes,
and can lead to criminal activity. The reaction to homelessness regarding the homeless is a social
problem in itself. It seems that Americans view homelessness as a threat to society, an
embarrassment, and sometimes one may even try to act as though the problem does not even exist.
They turn their heads in shame, disgust, pity, distaste and fear. When thinking about the
Conservative views on homelessness in my community, I immediately think about the old Symbolic
Interaction Theory, where it is believes that homelessness is a personal deficiency. According to
our text, society s individualistic culture persuades them that homelessness is a direct result of the
victims doing by lack of motivation and intelligence, as well as being responsible for their own
social standing that puts individuals in the situation of being homeless in the first place (pg.48)

Pros And Cons Of Microfossil
There s a new digital map limning the composition of the seafloor, and it s shown evidence of
microfossil graveyards off the coast of Australia, in addition to other complex deep ocean
geology. The interactive map is actually available via the online journal Geology, published
August 9th. This marks a first at creating an extensive, comprehensive map in the past 40 years.
There hasn t been a single attempt at such a map since the 1970s, which the University of Sydney
has announced was drawn by hand. The old map suggests much of the Southern Ocean around
Australia is mainly covered by clay blown off the continent, whereas our map shows this area is
actually a complex patchwork of microfossil remains, said study author Adriana Dutkiewicz, a
sedimentologist at the University of Sydney in a statement. Life in the Southern Ocean is much
richer than previously thought. The microfossils discovered are actually from a type of
phytoplankton that takes in carbon dioxide and excretes oxygen. Known as diatoms, these
phyloplankton take roughly 20% of breathable oxygen in the air, air we need to breathe. When
they die, diatoms sink down to the dark musty abyssal of the oceans, dragging all the their carbon
with them. This process is referred to as carbon sink, and it helps prevent the... Show more content

  • 2. Indian Water Rights Summary This journal evaluates the nature of Indian water rights in their reservations. It also evaluates the use of tribal sovereignty to protect water rights in Indian country. Indian country in the United States uses their land for many hazardous practices to help their economic output. Their concern is to maintain a good economic status by using their land that is not regulated by the states. The Indian reservation was created for the benefit of the Indian tribes, not the U.S. government. Lately, we have seen a lot of mining, oil gas, and fracking activities in their land. This journal has an example that put the Fort Belknap Indian reservation to have the rights of the Milk River to be use for future economical purposes (i.e. agricultural use). In 1888,The United States Congrees reserved the rights of the Milk River to the Indian reservation. The non Indians that settled next to the Milk River starting arguing that they were using the water from the river for agricultural irrigation before the Indians. The non Indians believed that they had the right to use the water. The Supreme Court explained to the non Indians that Indians had a reserved agreement that put their farmer plans to be a priority. • 3. Brutus s Actions In Julius Caesar Julius Caesar Paper Brutus and his actions are well known across every culture. Brutus, a Roman Senator, killed his best friend, Julius Caesar, in order to defend the people. These actions were dramatized by a renowned playwright, William Shakespeare, in his famous play, Julius Caesar. To craft his play, Shakespeare studied the real life events which occurred, and from them he created a masterful work of art which is now famous across the globe. Shakespeare took references from multiple sources, the largest of which was Roman author and philosopher, Plutarch. From Plutarch, Shakespeare got his influence for the main characters; Julius Caesar, Brutus, Cassius, Antony, and many of the conspirators. Both in the play and in real life, Brutus kills... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From good character development, to a strong plot, it is a good story from start to finish. What is up for speculation; however, is whether or not Brutus was acting out of his own free will or if he was manipulated by Cassius when he killed Caesar. While the majority of people will try and say that it was in fact manipulation by Cassius, which caused Brutus to choose to murder his best friend, it was not this way. Brutus was far too intelligent to allow himself to be manipulated. Also, he constantly clashed with Cassius. Furthermore, Shakespeare s play was based off of real life events and real life people, Brutus was no exception. In real life, Brutus killed Caesar of his own free will, and Shakespeare followed suit by having his version of Brutus also kill Caesar of his own free will. There is no question about it, Brutus chose to kill Caesar of his own accords, not because Cassius manipulated him into doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay on Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption Frank Darabont s The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on the book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison life in the movie is the best I have seen and a star studded cast including Morgan Freeman supports the characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper I will relate topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out the semester. One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are many movies that deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I feel does the best job of giving you a real feeling of what prison life... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that seemed easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from delivery drivers and the inmates themselves. It seemed to me that all of Shawshank was corrupt in its ways. In prison there are different levels of confinement and this was shown to play a big part in the prisoners life at Shawshank. If you were caught in the act of doing something against the rules or in Andy s case, standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement for a period of time. In the movie Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to survive. This to me is a hell of a way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have nothing to lose so even solitary does not break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with is the idea of institutionalization. The idea that inmates that have spent so many years behind bars that they can no longer function in a free society. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed, make yourself some food, and go to work in a society that has passed you by. After forty or fifty years of inmate life you become depended on the prison it becomes your world, your security. The example of this in the movie is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In free enterprise economies, goods and services are traded openly and are produced depending on the demand. People who support this type of economy believe it motivates businesses to make money and welcome new ideas. An important part of the economy is to have full employment and low inflation. While Coleridge emphasizes on the process of creating a Romantic poem, Keats expresses his opinion about art by carefully examining the details of the Grecian urn. In Kubla Khan, Coleridge expresses his desire to use the inspirations from nature to create his own Paradise of poetry(54, p.1634). Through the metaphors developing in the poem, Coleridge pieces together the process a Romantic poet creates a poem from the inspiration of a nature scene. Keats, on the other hand, uses the Ode on a Grecian Urn to express his perspective on art by examining the characters on the urn from either an ideal or realistic perspective. In the beginning, Keats asks questions regarding the mad pursuit (9, p.1847) of the people on the Grecian urn. As the Grecian urn exists outside of time, Keats creates a paradox for the human figures on the urn because they do not confront aging but neither experience time; Keats then further discusses the paradox in the preceding stanzas of the poem. In the second and third stanza, Keats examines the picture of the piper playing to his lover beneath the trees (15, p.1847) and expresses that their love is far above (28, p.1848) all human passion. The Departed Comparison The movies Infernal Affairs (2002, directed by Andrew Lau) and The Departed (2006, directed by Martin Scorsese), the latter being an adaptation of the former, are surprisingly similar films overall. The discrepancies between the two motion pictures are only easily seen when analyzing the difference in the narrative, plot and cinematography used within each film, while taking into account the influences of the differing cultures that the two films were created in (i.e. location of creation). In the former, it is barely touched at all and most love interests are chaste whereas in the latter it is much more explicit. Throughout The Departed, it is apparent that sexuality goes hand in hand with masculinity: as expressed by Sullivan mocking the firemen for being gay when the police department loses to a football game. Most insults and threats invariably involve sexual references unlike Infernal Affairs. One interesting thing to analyze between the two films, is the psychological stress that is shown and acted out by the characters in the films. While The Departed is a longer film, it is slightly less psychologically nuanced than Infernal Affairs. Sullivan is not shown as truly evil, but his speculations are never really scrutinized. Costigan is easily seen conflicted, but that stems from his fear of being discovered and killed. In Infernal Affairs, it is somewhat clear that both Lau and Chen are feeling a disconnection between their internal and external self, stemming from their involvement in spying. But, at $65 a tape, those costs were high and after about a month, people moved on to rent the next release, so the store no longer re ceived money to cover the original purchase price. In 1997, CEO John Antioco found a solution. He negotiated a deal with the leading Hollywood studios. Blockbuster would purchase tapes for $6 upfront, then give the studios 40 percent of the rental revenue. The deal gave Blockbuster a huge advantage in the market for new releases. Blockbuster advertised that customers would always find specific new release titles in stock, or they would get a free rental on the next trip. Competitors could not match the cost savings. About 2,500 of them (10 percent of the U.S. market) went out of business [Harnish 2003]. The deal also required Blockbuster to carry every title released by the studios [The Wall Street Journal 2001]. The interesting point of videos is that by 2000, the movie studios were making more money at the rental counter than at the theater. Home video was bringing in $2.9 billion in revenue, versus $2.2 billion in the theaters. So, the studios had a huge incentive to build stronger ties with the leading video rental company. Analysis Of Wendy Lee s Peeling Bananas Son Tra Do English 1A: Tuesday/Thursday 2pm 4pm Professor Haviland Essay 1 Reflective Essay Final Home The surprizing thing that I recognized when I studied at college is the way people greet each other around the world. After asking someone about name, we usually inquire about where he or she is from. I believe that we ask, not just to indentify the location of where our acquaintances live, but because we realize that their answers tell more about them. My answer for the question where are you from? is always Vietnam, my home country. For every Vietnamese like me, home is an important and meaningful part of our life. It becomes a vital part in our culture. The more I live far away from my house, the more I know how it is important to me. Moreover, I acknowledge that not only our homes define who we are but we also define our homes. In the essay Peeling bananas , Wendy Lee uses reflection to support her argument that it is hard to live in two different cultures. By using her own experiences and comparing the life in two cultures, she shows us her difficulties of living in America. In the same way, my essay reflects on the various perspectives of people from Vietnam and America about the meaning of home; and then I apply compare and contrast method in my essay to point out how cultures affect our opinion about home. I still remember a year ago, in the cold winter day when I first came to America; I and my sister looked so tiny in thick, coarse sweaters. In the middle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the late 1790s, Coleridge resided in the Quantock Hills of Somerset near his close friend and fellow poet William Wordsworth. Holmes argues that, it was some time during this first fortnight in October 1797 that he probably went for a long solitary walk along the coast to Lynton, exhausted from his labours, and, taken ill on his return journey, stopped off at Ash Farm above Culborne Church, where he wrote Kubla Khan. After writing his first draft of Kubla Khan, Coleridge was unable to finish the poem to his liking, and consequently, dismissed it as an incomplete fragment. On October 14th, 1797, Coleridge wrote a letter to his friend John Thelwall, stating, my mind feels as if it ached to behold know something great something one indivisible and it is only in the faith of this that rocks or waterfalls, mountains or caverns give me the sense of sublimity or majesty! The word free is a direct link to the concept of freedom, which Descartes describes as the ability to do or not do something . (O Connor) Freedom is not constrained. There can be no limits placed on it, lest it lose the fundamental nature of its definition. Hume reasoned that the sense of freedom linked to free will was that of liberty. that liberty is not a power of acting, but a power of choosing. • 35. The Vampire, By Anne Rice For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented as monstrous creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and cause terror until they were ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly given more human characteristics, but it was Anne Rice who radically humanized the vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in some ways, represents an improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976), Anne Rice juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other vampires in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking morality. Although Louis was a vampire for most of the novel, he represented humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner: through his struggle to find meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious beliefs, believed had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the novel, he also made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity by attempting to find happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis experienced his brother seemed to set the theme for the rest of his life. The importance of political system became less important, as concerns over social and economic forces moved to the forefront. Socialism seemed appealing to Westernizers due to the application of modern European thought, while traditionalists saw it as a return to the old Russian populist values. The rift between the aristocracy and the general public had become completely unbridgeable. The intelligentsia and nobility had grown to hate one another, each feeling as though the survival of Russia depended on the destruction of the other. To provide a basis for comparison, in 2004 about 136 billion gallons of gasoline were consumed in the US and about two billion gallons of ethanol (Yacobucci 8). Ethanol is mainly consumed in two forms in the US. Most ethanol sold in the US is in a mix of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline called E10 (Yacobucci 8). In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophoclesprimary play, OedipusRex, the relationship between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could get out of it. Yet, evidence suggests that socioeconomic disparities still exist, and access to care is still an issue even for citizens who have enrolled in health care plans (Delgado, 2015). Access to health care should be considered a basic right, a natural right for everyone. In 2008 T.R. Reid traveled to 5 countries that were among the richest in the world and provided universal health careaccess in some fashion. Here we will use Ried s (2008) findings to discuss distributive justice, vulnerabilities and the human right to health care. Theories of justice have an important role in how citizens access health care. The the countries presented by T.R. In this case the lawmakers decided that all citizens should benefit from universal access to health care. Health care consumes financial resources and will always struggle to provide the highest quality at a rate its consumers can afford. Pros And Cons Of Microfossil There s a new digital map limning the composition of the seafloor, and it s shown evidence of microfossil graveyards off the coast of Australia, in addition to other complex deep ocean geology. The interactive map is actually available via the online journal Geology, published August 9th. This marks a first at creating an extensive, comprehensive map in the past 40 years.
