Deep It
Purpose and Audience
The director of this film is Teddy Nygh, it was filmed in 2016 in London UK. This short film has a clear
purpose to relate to what happens in the youth today. At the end of the film there is a statistic that
gives figures about knife crime in the UK, this shows that this film is trying to raise awareness for
this. It aims to give a message and educate people on things that can be easily ignored. It shows
that actions have consequences, the film shows this in a very good way as the main character ends
up feeling responsible for everything that happened.
The audience for this film would be mainly the younger generation, about 13-26 as it doesn’t just
apply to teenagers but young adults as well. The film’s uploaded to YouTube which will also
reinforce that younger demographic as YouTube is used more by young people.
Genre
Short/Drama- The film has a big impact as it shows that everyone gets hurt in the
process of a crime. This genre can be quite challenging as an emotional narratives
important. Films like Fight Club and Forest Gump are dramas and have a powerful
storyline. Action films can be interesting due to the fast pacing or violence,
although dramas tend to have violence they focus on the storyline. The opening
scene of the film makes it obvious that it’s a drama as there is conflict in a
conversation that five characters are involved in.
Form and Style
The camera that was used to film this film was a DSLR, this is normal as short films
have lower budgets or even no budget at all. This is film has a very similar style to
short films like, Drawn Out and Rapman Shiro’s Story. Drawn Out is produced by the
same YouTube channel, MYM. Shiro’s Story has the same Actor playing the main
character. They would all have a very similar audience due to the general nature of
the storyline.
Target Audience
The audience ties in with the message of the film as its trying to raise
awareness for knife crime in the youth of the UK, therefore the target
audience would be people aged from 13-26, as the story includes a
clear message both male and female viewers would have been thought
about as they are exploring an issue that can effect a lot of people. This
film has a wider audience and would cover all areas of the NRS Scale
due to its further meaning, From A (Upper middle class) though too E
(Those at lowest level of subsistence). In the 4c’s model the main
audience would be The Mainstream due to the nature how YouTube
works, being the largest group out of all of them this is usually a good
audience for making money or as this film is, trying to get a message
across.
Frequency and Production Process
• This short film is a standalone project that was made possible by a
collaboration between MYM: Million Youth Media and Fully Focused.
• The should film would have gone through the writing and planning
stages before casting an producing would have taken place. After
casting the film they would have make sure the actors could do the
dates that they set and then filming would take place when
everything had been sorted. After filing the marketing and editing
stage needs to be completed and once the film has been fully edited
and advertised they can release it to public viewing.
Content and Meaning
• When the film opens an immediate relationship is established between the 2 leads, Miles and
Kadz. There friend is immediately questioned by another 2 characters that seem to be picking on
Miles, this is an important scene for the film as it establishes the characters and we instantly feel
sorry for the lead, Miles.

Short film review

  • 2. Purpose and Audience The director of this film is Teddy Nygh, it was filmed in 2016 in London UK. This short film has a clear purpose to relate to what happens in the youth today. At the end of the film there is a statistic that gives figures about knife crime in the UK, this shows that this film is trying to raise awareness for this. It aims to give a message and educate people on things that can be easily ignored. It shows that actions have consequences, the film shows this in a very good way as the main character ends up feeling responsible for everything that happened. The audience for this film would be mainly the younger generation, about 13-26 as it doesn’t just apply to teenagers but young adults as well. The film’s uploaded to YouTube which will also reinforce that younger demographic as YouTube is used more by young people.
  • 3. Genre Short/Drama- The film has a big impact as it shows that everyone gets hurt in the process of a crime. This genre can be quite challenging as an emotional narratives important. Films like Fight Club and Forest Gump are dramas and have a powerful storyline. Action films can be interesting due to the fast pacing or violence, although dramas tend to have violence they focus on the storyline. The opening scene of the film makes it obvious that it’s a drama as there is conflict in a conversation that five characters are involved in. Form and Style The camera that was used to film this film was a DSLR, this is normal as short films have lower budgets or even no budget at all. This is film has a very similar style to short films like, Drawn Out and Rapman Shiro’s Story. Drawn Out is produced by the same YouTube channel, MYM. Shiro’s Story has the same Actor playing the main character. They would all have a very similar audience due to the general nature of the storyline.
  • 4. Target Audience The audience ties in with the message of the film as its trying to raise awareness for knife crime in the youth of the UK, therefore the target audience would be people aged from 13-26, as the story includes a clear message both male and female viewers would have been thought about as they are exploring an issue that can effect a lot of people. This film has a wider audience and would cover all areas of the NRS Scale due to its further meaning, From A (Upper middle class) though too E (Those at lowest level of subsistence). In the 4c’s model the main audience would be The Mainstream due to the nature how YouTube works, being the largest group out of all of them this is usually a good audience for making money or as this film is, trying to get a message across.
  • 5. Frequency and Production Process • This short film is a standalone project that was made possible by a collaboration between MYM: Million Youth Media and Fully Focused. • The should film would have gone through the writing and planning stages before casting an producing would have taken place. After casting the film they would have make sure the actors could do the dates that they set and then filming would take place when everything had been sorted. After filing the marketing and editing stage needs to be completed and once the film has been fully edited and advertised they can release it to public viewing.
  • 6. Content and Meaning • When the film opens an immediate relationship is established between the 2 leads, Miles and Kadz. There friend is immediately questioned by another 2 characters that seem to be picking on Miles, this is an important scene for the film as it establishes the characters and we instantly feel sorry for the lead, Miles.
