The First Time opening sequence analysis
The institution is established through appearing in shot as if written on. It is very
large text in the centre of the screen, almost taking up the whole shot. The
white typography is unisex and involves both genders.
The second production company is presented next on a black background.
The black background causes the white writing to stand out and contrast. This
typography is not as big as the previous as it does not gold us much
importance and it is presented at a slant. This fades out quickly as the camera
begins panning to the first shot of a car.
The car disappears and reveals the title of the film in black with a pink
background and a shot of someone walking. The pink background attracts a
female audience as pink is stereotypically liked by girls.
The first cast member to appear on screen is in the same pink colour as the
title, this suggests that they are a girl and an important character as they are
presented first and tie in with the main title. Upbeat pop music is presented in
the background of this which relates to stereotypical teenagers and brings an
up tempo feeling.
POV wide shots are presented to create the audience to feel involved
immediately in the film. The main cast members appear on screen and
disappear once it moves onto the next shot. The audience immediately can
see that these are teenagers outside a big house. The blue background
under the typography creates a more male feeling as blue is stereotypically
favoured by boys.
A close up of this character suggests that he holds importance in the film as
all the other characters are presented through wide shots and mid shots.
This mid-shot presents another cast member in shot in a yellow background
which creates a more unisex feeling. The blue and pink backgrounds of the
other cast members suggests they are the main boy and girl love interests of
the film. This shot suggests to the audience that this is a house party due to the
setting.
The shot fastens in pace as if we are following this character into the room. As
she is being pulled into the room it is suggested that this is a stereotypical
American house party consisted of drinking and sex. 4
Another close up of this character is presented, again suggesting that he
holds importance in the film. We have not yet seen his whole body to know
what he looks like therefore we are building up to it.
Another POV shot to include the audience as we get another stereotypical
party idea of teenagers kissing each other as people watch. This is adding to
the setting of a typical teenage life.
This mid-shot presents a teenage girl pushing someone off a teenage boy, we
infer this is her boyfriend. The text then appears in-between the two to create
an animated and childish feeling.
A wide shot with another main character appearing in shot. All of this
typography is in upper case letters which suggests they hold importance in
the film and causes the writing to stand out more, along with the background
colours.
Another close up of the character suggests that he is practicing a speech of
some kind as he opens a letter. There is still a build up of who he is and this
creates an enigma code as the audience want to know what will happen.
This high angle shot presents a teenage boy throwing up in a plant, which a
teenage audience may identify with due to stereotypically being sick after
consuming alcohol. The green background of the typography ties in with the
green plant, causing both to stand out.
As this is a closer shot than the previous this suggests that this is the main
character again and the audience are finally seeing more of him building up
to his appearance
We finally see a mid shot of the main character, although it is quick close ups
of him have been repeated to suggest he is the main character. This shot has
no text on it, so it does not detract from the person in the shot.
The final text presented on screen is a wide shot including the main character
in it. At this point the soundtrack fades out. The pink background of the text
links back to the pink in the title and the first cast member presented. This shot
establishes more of the setting and reveals the character fully as we want to
carry on watching.
From this opening sequence the POV shots are affective and I would use
them in our film as they make the audience feel as if they are part of the film
and they therefore focus on the narrative more. I would also incorporate the
speeding up of some of the shots as it creates a shorter and effective
opening.

The first time opening sequence analysis

  • 1. The First Time opening sequence analysis The institution is established through appearing in shot as if written on. It is very large text in the centre of the screen, almost taking up the whole shot. The white typography is unisex and involves both genders. The second production company is presented next on a black background. The black background causes the white writing to stand out and contrast. This typography is not as big as the previous as it does not gold us much importance and it is presented at a slant. This fades out quickly as the camera begins panning to the first shot of a car. The car disappears and reveals the title of the film in black with a pink background and a shot of someone walking. The pink background attracts a female audience as pink is stereotypically liked by girls.
  • 2. The first cast member to appear on screen is in the same pink colour as the title, this suggests that they are a girl and an important character as they are presented first and tie in with the main title. Upbeat pop music is presented in the background of this which relates to stereotypical teenagers and brings an up tempo feeling. POV wide shots are presented to create the audience to feel involved immediately in the film. The main cast members appear on screen and disappear once it moves onto the next shot. The audience immediately can see that these are teenagers outside a big house. The blue background under the typography creates a more male feeling as blue is stereotypically favoured by boys.
  • 3. A close up of this character suggests that he holds importance in the film as all the other characters are presented through wide shots and mid shots. This mid-shot presents another cast member in shot in a yellow background which creates a more unisex feeling. The blue and pink backgrounds of the other cast members suggests they are the main boy and girl love interests of the film. This shot suggests to the audience that this is a house party due to the setting. The shot fastens in pace as if we are following this character into the room. As she is being pulled into the room it is suggested that this is a stereotypical American house party consisted of drinking and sex. 4
  • 4. Another close up of this character is presented, again suggesting that he holds importance in the film. We have not yet seen his whole body to know what he looks like therefore we are building up to it. Another POV shot to include the audience as we get another stereotypical party idea of teenagers kissing each other as people watch. This is adding to the setting of a typical teenage life. This mid-shot presents a teenage girl pushing someone off a teenage boy, we infer this is her boyfriend. The text then appears in-between the two to create an animated and childish feeling.
  • 5. A wide shot with another main character appearing in shot. All of this typography is in upper case letters which suggests they hold importance in the film and causes the writing to stand out more, along with the background colours. Another close up of the character suggests that he is practicing a speech of some kind as he opens a letter. There is still a build up of who he is and this creates an enigma code as the audience want to know what will happen. This high angle shot presents a teenage boy throwing up in a plant, which a teenage audience may identify with due to stereotypically being sick after
  • 6. consuming alcohol. The green background of the typography ties in with the green plant, causing both to stand out. As this is a closer shot than the previous this suggests that this is the main character again and the audience are finally seeing more of him building up to his appearance We finally see a mid shot of the main character, although it is quick close ups of him have been repeated to suggest he is the main character. This shot has no text on it, so it does not detract from the person in the shot. The final text presented on screen is a wide shot including the main character in it. At this point the soundtrack fades out. The pink background of the text links back to the pink in the title and the first cast member presented. This shot establishes more of the setting and reveals the character fully as we want to carry on watching.
  • 7. From this opening sequence the POV shots are affective and I would use them in our film as they make the audience feel as if they are part of the film and they therefore focus on the narrative more. I would also incorporate the speeding up of some of the shots as it creates a shorter and effective opening.
