2. SOCIAL DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPINGS
We decided to aim our film at the social demographic of A-C1 this is because group and A and
B can enjoy the complicated story line but C1 can also enjoy the action scenes. Our target
audiences age is between 12-45 as there is a is some sexualisation of the female character and
some mild language would be used. Our film is mainly aimed at all ethnicity and both male
and female audiences that are heterosexual. The reason for targets more heterosexual couples
is due to the heterosexual couple in the film. However, our film could be watched and enjoyed
by any ethnicity or sexuality.
3. PSYCHOGRAPHIC PROFILING
• We have decided to target three different psychographic profiling groups. These are
the mainstreamers, the explores and the escapism. The mainstreamers would enjoy
the use of modern day language and technology use in the film. The explores would
enjoy the different locations, the different missions and the thrill of adventure and
the style of travel. And lastly the group who seeks escapism could listen to the story
and get lost in the story and forget their problems that walked in with.
4. MEDIA GROUPING
• Our audience would manly enjoy consuming TV Drama’s/thrillers
with complex narratives as they enjoy problem solving. This could
included silent witness, death in paradise and Luther.
5. LINKS TO OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
We used small props and things to that would link the film to the audience for
example we used an iPhone for the phones that the male characters would use. In
society the iPhone is the phone to have. As this is such a popular phone many
audience members but own one. This then creates a link between the character and
the audience member. This will then make the audience member more link and
evolved with the film.
6. BLUMIER AND KAT’S THEORY
• Blumier and Kat’s theory of giving the
audience gratifications and pleasures
applies to our film. Our film allows the
audience to identify with the characters
and become part of the story. I film also
allows social interaction with the
characters and allows the audience to
escape into a different world were there
life maybe be a bit better than theirs at
that point in time.
Their Uses and Gratifications theory tries to show the different reasons
that audiences have for consuming (using) certain media texts.
Media Consumers choose media texts that fulfill one or more of these
needs:
· The need to be INFORMED and EDUCATED about the world in
which they live
· The need to IDENTIFY personally with the characters and situations
in order to learn more about themselves
· The need to be ENTERTAINED by a range and variety of well
constructed texts
· The need to use the media as a talking point for SOCIAL
INTERACTION
· The need to ESCAPE from their ‘daily grind’ into other worlds and
situations
Think about how this theory can be applied to the medium of film-
explain what uses and gratifications audiences seek for in the medium of
film.
Then on a micro level think about the uses and gratifications which
people have for the main genres of film.
7. DYER’S UTOPIAN SOLUTIONS
Richard Dyer states that people will respond to a media
text if it offers them compensation for the inadequacies in
their own lives. Through the media audiences can
vicariously live their lives and fulfill their wants and needs,
leading them to strive to a utopian life.
Our Film offers Community for people who are
isolated as Matthew is part of organization
where there are many people involved. It also
creates excitement for people who are bored.
This is because they would like the missions and
enjoy the intenseness of if Matthew falls for
Emma and betray his boss. Lastly our film
provides love for people who are not in a
relationship as they can see Emma and Matthew
start to fall in love and this will compensate for
them.
8. MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS
Abraham Maslow stated that we all
have the same 8 basic needs. Therefore if your
production targets these, you will have a
greater chance of success
Our film offers love/ belonging, esteem and self-actualization.
Matthew finds love in Emma’s and also friendship. Completing
his missions and final going against his evil boss offers
confidence and achievement for the audience its also offers
respect as at the end of the film Matthew finally stands up for
himself. Lastly there is a lot of problem solving, spontaneity and
morality in the film that self-actualization on can be offered to
our target audience.
