Human Resource Development
Research Article focuses on the analysis and resolution of managerial issues based on analytical
and empirical studies. A Study of HRD Concepts, Structure of HRD Departments, and HRD
Practices in India T V Rao, Raju Rao, and Taru Yadav Human Resource Development (HRD) as a
function has evolved in India indigenously from the year 1975 when Larsen Toubro (L T)
conceptualized HRD as an integrated system and decided to separate it from the personnel function.
Since then, most organizations have started new HR departments or redesignated their personnel
and other departments as HRD departments. Today, there are high expectations from HRD. Good
HRD requires well structured function, appropriately identified HRD systems, and competent staff

Structurally, HRD is to be a subsystem of HRF and integration of this with the other two
subsystems (Personnel Administration and Worker Affairs) is to be done by a person at the
Director level (for example, Vice President Personnel HRD), through task forces and subsystem
linkages. Inter system 1. linkages were outlined between various HRD subsystems to have an
integrated system. Pareek and Rao also outlined a philosophy for the new HR system, which
included 14 principles to be kept in mind while designing the HRD system. These principles deal
with both the purpose of HRD system and the process of its implementation (see Box). In essence,
the Integrated HRD Systems Approach of Pareek and Rao (1975) has the following elements: A
separate and differentiated HRD depart ment with full time HRD staff. Six HRD subsystems
including OD. Interlinkages between the various subsys tems. Designed with 14 principles in mind.
Linked to other subsystems of HRF. After L T accepted these recommendations in full and started
implementing them, the State Bank of India (the single largest Indian Bank) and its Associates
decided to use the Integrated HRD Systems Approach and created a new HRD Department. By mid
80s, a large number of organizations in India had established HRD departments. Box: Principles of

Analysis of the Brown v Board of Education Case
It is imperative to note that the case of Brown v Board of Education is based on a chronological
history of the fight towards realization of human rights in the United States. This essay shall begin
by discussing the history chronologically and accessing it whilst the essay goes along. It is clear
that even though the United States constitution guaranteed equal rights to all men, the issue of
slavery prevailed under violation of other human rights. It was only after the Civil War that slave
trade was considered unlawful. It was not until 1865 that the Thirteenth Amendment was put into
effect to help bring to an end slave trade. The need to strengthen the legal rights of slaves was
noticed and by 1868 the Fourteenth Amendment was used to... Show more content on

The decisions that followed prepared the way on which the case of Brown case took place. The
first of the series of cases was the case of Murray v. Maryland. The Maryland school of law was
rejecting students basing on their skin color (Anderson, 2004). Thurgood represented Murray in
this decision where he argued that then he was as qualified as other white students who were
admitted into the same school. He argued that the criteria used in admitting students was
discriminating and the student did not have another institution to pursue his career. He further
argued that failure to admit him was going against his right to education. The challenge of the
Maryland s decision was before the Baltimore City Court. The Baltimore City Court decided in
favor of Maryland. Maryland appealed to the Maryland Court of Appeal and the court upheld the
decision. The continued fight by NAACP Legal Defense took the case of Missouri exparte
Gaines v. Canada. The Missouri school of law offered Gaines an option of being admitted into
the school of the blacks that they intended to build. He was also given an option of attending
another school whereby his fee was to be paid by the school. Gaines rejected the said offers. His
decision reached the Supreme Court, which held in his favor. The Supreme Court cited the equal
protection clause. The subsequent decisions were founded on the decision in Murray. The legal
battle reached its peak in the

Far Western Blot analysis:
Far Western Blot analysis is the technique mostly resembles Western Blot analysis, but differs in
way that proteins are separated on a blot. Biotinylated non antibody proteins are used for
immobilizing the protein of interest, which are then overlaid with an antibody with streptavidin.

Fluorescent signals are emitted when there is reaction between the immobilized protein and the

The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit
Introduction
What exactly happened on that Pentecost day? The traditional view says that this is the coming of
the Holy Spirit to inaugurate the Church Age. The question that arises is what does this mean and
how did it affect the church. The day of Pentecost empowered the church to be able to achieve its
intended purpose.
History of the Pentecost
The Classical Pentecostal doctrine of the baptism in the Holy Spirit was first formulated at the turn
of the twentieth century. Nevertheless, Classical Pentecostals claim that their view of Spirit
baptism is based on Scripture, and that this doctrine was a normative part of the experience and
teaching of the New Testament church. They further claim that this doctrine should be a normative
part of the experience and teaching of the Church today. However, the biblical texts, which are cited
by Classical Pentecostals to support their view, have been interpreted differently by non
Pentecostals. The practical value of this study is to help Classical Pentecostals and non Pentecostals
identify the source of this doctrine, and to understand why they disagree on this important point.
The Arrival
Luke elucidated the description of Pentecost as fully come. Pentecost brought about a new
fellowship. The Kingdom of God henceforth is sanctified in the Spirit of Pentecost. The new thing
is not in the wind and fire, or the gift of tongues, but in the possession of the Spirit by each for the
good of all.

So great was the change, some of the boys in the band had trouble recognizing him. After that,
Elvis didn t work for five months. It didn t get any better in 1975. On January 8th, Elvis
celebrated his fortieth birthday. He worried that he was getting up there, and that hurt. Twenty
days later, Elvis entered the hospital for, among other problems, an enlarged colon. At least that
s what the press was told. And it was true. But it was also true that Elvis was there for another
detoxification. This, too, would be confirmed years later by Dr. Nick [George Nichopoulos]. At
the time, however, Nichopoulos merely stated that Elvis had been sick for several days but was
reluctant to go to the hospital. He said it had required several more days of talking before Elvis
submitted to the physician s wishes, during which time a suite was held for him on the Baptist
Hospital s eighteenth floor. Finally, on January 28th at five a.m., the telephone rang at the nurse
s station. Dr. Nick said he was leaving Graceland with Elvis and would be arriving in fifteen
minutes. Elvis, wearing navy blue pajamas and a few days beard, showed up with his father, Joe
Esposito, Linda Thompson and a few bodyguards. The enlarged colon and drug detoxification
were two serious problems treated during his three week stay. Another more serious problem

Building A Room Decorating Ideas
Modern Room Decorating Ideas : How to Choose Wall Artwork
Great art can elevate a space, bring together an interior house design and add interest to a room.
Art work in your home can also communicate your style to your guests and speak to your
personal experience. However, choosing art pieces for your home can be daunting when you have
no experience in room design. Luckily, we have compiled a list of room decorating ideas that will
help you choose the right artwork for your home and its many spaces.
Don t Settle
When looking for the right pieces to fill your living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and
foyer, do not settle. Above all else, it is advisable to get out and see what s out there. Art exists in
galleries, at auctions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think About Your Space
Are you decorating your living room, home office, or bedroom? Spend time in the space and select
the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal
points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be
in order to take up enough visual space.
Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal
wall, hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of
pieces in order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall,
you will be making the room feel larger.
Choosing Art For Your Bedroom
When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like
to get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for
romance? The style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for
your bedroom space. Because art is such an emotive tool, it is particularly important in your
bedroom that the colors of the art displayed help accomplish your bedroom s overarching theme.
For example, red is the color of passion, and although a painting that uses a large swathe of red is
great for a room designated for romance, it may not be well suited in a room designated for
relaxation.

In my country, English is taught as a foreign language. The school that I was teaching is a
bilingual school. They use English as one of instruction languages. However, in a certain level, the
instruction language is mixed between L1 and English depending on the need of students. I teach
English for senior high school students. Their ages are ranging from 13 to 14. The students in this
context are first grade students in senior high school. They are divided into two level. The one that
I am preparing the material for is the pre intermediate level students. These students can understand
a simple text even though they do not understand all vocabulary. They read graded reader book
every week and have a test every two month. This reading activity aims for comprehension and
vocabulary practice.t
I choose this text because of the theme of the text is familiar to students daily life. This text is about
electronic rubbish (Appendix). Moreover, I think students will enjoy reading this text as it provides
interesting information about electronic devices that they regularly interact with. I hope that the

Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone
Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their
surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition
was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other
than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zoneis the star around the planetor region must
survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the
proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example,
the Earth!

There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like and are called
Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is
told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars
would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers.
Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing
through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others
predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may
become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like.
Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2
billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a
crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no
water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean.
Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable.
Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers
in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does

Organic Milk Vs Organic Food
Introduction
Milk is a perfect food that is essential for health and proper growth of the human body. It contains
carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, fats, and many vitamins in proper a ratio that is needed for the
development of the human body. In today s society, the emphasis on organic food and
conventional food is quite big. Many say that organic food is much healthier and more nutritious
than conventional. Milk is an important food in many people s diets, it is essentially the food that
babies grow up on and it is important to know what is healthier. It is defined that organic milk
comes from cows that have not been treated with antibiotics and given hormones, and have been
fed at least 30% of its diet on pasture. Conventional milk can be produced the same way, but it does
not have to follow the strict rules. It is important to determine whether organic milk is worth the
money and if it is healthier than conventional milk. Several studies have been analyzed and they
split in opinion whether organic milk is healthier. The studies that support the yes argument, state
that organic milk is healthier because it has higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid and О±
linolenic acid; of minerals such as selenium; and the ration of n 6 to n 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids
is lower. The studies supporting the no side, state that it was determined that the abundance of
oligosaccharides, the concentration of Vitamin A, Vitamin E and ОІ carotene, and the levels of
estrogen were similar

Bitter Taste Lab
The PTC gene or TAS2R28, the bitter receptor gene, is a single gene that codes for specific
tastes on the tongue and was found in 2003 by Kim (Emerson). One form of the gene represents
a tasting allele, while the other is a non tasting allele; each of these alleles code for a receptor
inside the cell, but the shape of receptor varies depending on which allele is present. The shape is
an important indication of how strongly the PTC can bind. It is located on chromosome 7
(Emerson). The PTC geneis not an all or nothing gene; some have very strong bitter sensitivity,
some have slight sensitivity, and others have no bitter taste at all ( PTC The Geneticsof Bitter Taste.

Muscle Contraction Lab
This lab was conducted to test the muscle reaction to three different solutions and observe the
muscle contraction in the presence of each solution. We predicted that ATP solution in distilled
water might cause muscle contraction since ATP alone binds to myosin to break the cross bridge
and enable the myosinto rebind to actin at the next musclecontraction. ( ATP and Muscle Contraction
. Boundless Biology) All three groups were given a 2cm length of psoas muscle, which was
placed on a microscope slide with a small drop of glycerol. First, we measured each fiber, and
then added 2 drops of one of the solutions, Solution A; .25% ATP in distilled water, Solution B;
.25% ATP solution in water, .05M KCI, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water, and Solution C; .05 M
KC1, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water. We waited 30 seconds after adding the solution and we
measured the fiber again to see if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our
hypothesis was not supported, because the fiber size did not change.
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to learn if any of the three solutions used for the experiment would
cause the fiber to have a muscle contraction and if there wasn t any muscle contraction, understand
why the solution didn t cause a muscle contraction.

the goal of the Emirates for Hospitality is to improve local human resources in the tourism sector.
There are some disadvantages with boosting tourism in the UAE. The first disadvantage that the
boost of tourism brought to the country is that we lost our culture. Our rich cultural heritage are
diminished.People became more westernized. Citizens don t follow the dress standards and elders
are frustrated. Moreover, some tourists often don t respect the UAE s traditions and culture such as

Standing Seam Roof Research Paper
Over a long period of time, a consumer s most traditional choice for a roofing system was asphalt
shingles. Other options were sparse and if you wanted to purchase a distinct roofing material
compared to asphalt shingles; metal roofing was one of the roofing materials that would do the job.
When most homeowners begin contemplating about a metal roof, all they could visualize were the
roofing materials they had observed on barns and commercial buildings. Now metal roofing is
appearing on homes all around neighborhoods. There are few types of metal roofing, but there is a
distinct type called standing seam metal roofing. A standing seam roof is a metal roof where the
seams position above the flat, steady surface. It appears contrasting to the rigid metal roofsseen on
barns and industrial buildings. Standing seam roofing is amongst the most permanent and
maintenance free type of metal roofing. Standing Seam is becoming more prominent with
homeowners because of the several advantages such as durability, energy efficiency, and high

Looking for Alaska

Looking for Alaska The main theme in John Green s novel Looking for Alaska is that there is
more to life than can be experienced through any one person or experience, and that we will never
truly understand everything that happens to us or the ones we love. We just have to accept these
things, whether they be good or bad, and hope for the best. The novel is written in first person
perspective, through the eyes of the main character. His name is Miles Halter, and he is a

He really becomes much more of a three dimensional character. His entire outlook on life totally
changes. In this section of the story Pudge becomes obsessed with finding out if Alaska killed
herself, or if it was just a freak accident. The Colonel and him spend a good amount of time doing
some serious detective work, attempting to understand what exactly went through her mind right
before she died. Eventually though, The Colonel gets bored playing detective, and he soon stops
trying to help. Pudge, however, keeps on with the investigation, perhaps bordering on the brink of
insanity with his need to fully understand Alaska. He feels as though it s his fault that he didn t
understand what was happening sooner, and that if he figures out what pushed her to this point it
will make up for his ignorance. To really prove the kind of person that Pudge became after Alaska
s death, I am going to include the last portion of the novel. It is an essay written by Pudge for his

to dissect it and come up with a theological answer. I feel that even though it s the last part of the
novel, it s where everything really comes together emotionally.

Summary Of The Multitasking Generation By Claudia Wallis
In The Multitasking Generation , Claudia Wallis provides key points on the difference between
Generation M and Multitasking. Wallis also challenges the idea that by multitasking, things get
done. In the first part of the essay Wallis provides information on a family living in California. A
man and a woman with twins, one girl and one boy. Wallis observes that most of the time spent at
home by the children is on a computer with music blaring and chatting with friends on their cell
phones. Wallis states, By all standard space time calculations, the four members of the family
occupy the same three bedroom home in Van Nuys, California..., but psychologically each exists in
his or her own little universe. (385 386) In today s world, That level

THE TONE OF A SETTING When having a conversation with someone it is easy to know how
they are feeling by the tone in their voice. If a person is being funny, they tend to have a smile
on their face, but when a person is angry about a particular subject, the tone of their voice
becomes extremely loud and overbearing. While reading novels or short stories the characters
tone is distinguishable because of the author s use of exclamation points or italicized words. These
make the reader understand the characters emotions and feelings throughout the entire book. As
for poems, the tone is not as recognizable. A reader is not capable of understanding the tone from
just simply glancing at a few words. The tone is derived from several words and... Show more

The remainder of the poem s setting takes place in the United States, where the speaker and her
family now reside. Living in the United States, the speaker s miserable tone results from the fact
that she feels alienated from her children, but now they, go to American high schools/ They
speak English (Line 8 9). English, a language she does not understand and is, embarrassed at
mispronouncing words (Line 16). This barrier of language has broken off a major form of
communication between her children and her. There once was a time when she would laugh
along with her children as they told jokes, but now all she can do is, stand by the stove and feel
dumb, alone (Line 11). The speaker s setting has distorted her self image. The fact that she now
feels dumb is a completely different feeling from how she felt in Mexico where she, understood
every word they d say (Line 4). Yearning for that familiarity of the bond between her children
and herself she, bought a book to learn English (Line 12). This is her only way to adjust to her
new setting and because she feared that one day she, will be deaf/ when (her) children need (her)
help (Line 21 22). In Anthony Grooms , Homespace, the speaker s mind set remains constant from
the setting that he had just returned from and in the new setting where the poem takes place. In
contrast to Mora s poem, Grooms tone never alternates; it is a stable conscience feeling of being in a

El Paso City Attractions
Southwest University Park It all started as a great attraction, a great investment for the city. A
great central attraction , many would say. I remember watching the news and people opposing,
but mostly hearing how people excited. Happy to see something new coming our way, having
something to do in this boring city, as many would say of El Paso. Construction started on May
30th of 2013, and a few days before El Paso City Hall had been demolished by implosion. I
remember a lot of people from the community gathered up to see the explosion. It is a baseball
field park, called Southwest University Park Stadium, the city s newest attraction. It has been
opened since April 28th 2014 at the heart of the city, downtown El Paso, and is located on 1
Ballpark Plaza. Currently identified as one of the bests. A lot of people were doubtful about the
outcome. A great amount of people agreed and were happy about the decision. The skeptical were
finally pushed into the decision. I am certain that it has been a great investment. The construction
did start in May 30th of 2013; the total cost was 72 million dollars. It is now, home for El Paso
Chihuahuas, which was announced on March 5th 2014. The stadium has a capacity of 9,500... Show

Reichard said, author of 2014 Best New Ballpark: Southwest University Park . The answer is
clear: the Chihuahuas sold out nearly 75% of its games and ended up attracting 548,435 fans for

Stephen Crane Individualism
America is defined because of the illustrious past it has been built upon. Challenges that were
faced moving into the 20th century had the potential to propel America greatly if overcome.
Stephen Crane and Mark Twain have very influential works, which help uncover the truth about
America s situation without any optimism to show the reality of the ignored parts of society.
Crane and Twain let readers perceive the novels how they wish, and through the acceptance of
truth, some will start a change. However, the reader will have to start by making a personal
change to push new ideas out to society. By looking at the core American values of materialism
and individualism it is evident that Maggie: Girl of the Streets and Adventures of Huckleberry...

Twain and Crane use characters that have to define themselves and decide what is best for their
personal beliefs. Crane represents this as well when Maggie has to try and move out of her
situation, but ends up not being able to as she becomes too reliant on Pete. In Twain s novel, Jim
and Huck run away from home and travel down the Mississippi River, and Jim gets taken and
sold back into the slave trade. Huck has to decide if he wants to save Jim and break societal
norms or get help from his original owners which will enslave Jim, but make Huck conform and
be closed to challenging society. Huck then realizes that he is fine with being different from
how society looks at him, as long as Huck can do what he wants, not what society wants him to
do. The change of Huck shifting away from his societal norm is contrasting of every society not
being able to step back and question itself. Twain does this because there will always be deeply
rooted morals which cause issues to never be resolved. Nevertheless, Huck is not the only
character to realize what he can do; Jim runs away from slavery to make a new life as a free man
and wants to be different from the past life of slavery. As the 20th century approaches, there has to
be a change in breaking what has been set. This

ING5 Case Study
The ING (INhibitor of Growth) family of genes and proteins (ING1 ING5) was identified in 1996,
from PCR mediated subtractive hybridization between a normal mammary epithelial cell strain and
several transformed breast cancer cell lines, followed by an in vivo functional screen for
tumourigenesis1. The ING proteins target histoneacetyltransferase (HAT) and histone deacetylase
(HDAC) complexes to the H3K4me3 mark, altering histone acetylation and gene expression2.
ING4 was identified by computational analysis and is expressed in various tissues; also several
splice variants and transcripts were described for this protein3 5. The ING5 protein of the ING
family, was described by computational homology search and shares a high amino acid... Show

Also, due to the presence of the LID in all INGs, we will study if ING5 and ING4 are capable of
interacting with Lamin A in differentiating stem cells and the importance of this interaction to stem
cell differentiation.
To achieve these objectives, we will use three different mouse embryonic stem (ES) cell lines
(R1, D3, E14), already present in the lab. In ongoing studies, it was noted that these cells
presented all five of the ING genes with altered expression when they were induced to
differentiate. We will first study if altering ING5 and ING4 expression using siING5 and siING4
to decrease it and pCI ING5, pCI ING4 to increase levels, will affect differentiation and the self
renewal rate of these lines. We will use sphere formation assays to assess self renewal. We will
also induce differentiation with these different expression constructs, thus measuring the influence
of these proteins in the process. To determine the degree of differentiation with varying expression
of the ING genes, we will use flow cytometry to follow changes in stem cells markers, such as
OCT4, OLIG2 and Nestin16.
Previous studies from our group already described the LID and the interaction of several ING
proteins with Lamin A12. In the conditions used in this study, ING4 was co precipitated with
Lamin A. However, even though ING5 presents the LID, it was not co precipitated12. In this work

Different Social Professional And Cultural Contexts Essay
Different social, professional and cultural contexts may affect relationships and the way people
communicate and interact with each other, it is important to be aware of the issues which restrict
communication and how to overcome them.
When communicating with others, you need to consider the context in which you are working. You
will adapt and change the way you communicate in different situations, it is likely you will do this
automatically without realising. For example, the way we conduct ourselves in a meeting, we
would choose to use more formal language and behaviour, we would demonstrate this by; remaining
calm, respectfully listening, and showing an interest through asking questions and offering possible
solutions to issues.
However, the spoken word is not the only way in which we communicate; in schools it is important

The Absurdity in Waiting for Godot Essay
In Waiting for Godot, Beckett often focused on the idea of the suffering of being. Most of the play
deals with the fact that Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for something to relieve them from their
boredom. Godot can be understood as one of the many things in life that people wait for. Waiting
for Godot is part of the Theater of the Absurd . This implies that it is meant to be irrational and
meaningless. Absurd theater does not have the concepts of drama, chronological plot, logical
language, themes, and recognizable settings. There is also a split between the intellect and the body
within the work. Vladimir represents the intellect and Estragonthe body, both cannot exist without

It makes an interesting point since neither of them aren t saying anything new, it s like having a

words over and over even though the dialogue changes slightly, they are still saying the same thing.
When Estragon and Vladamir continuously repeat their actions day after day and unable to go

Hellenistic School
Hellenistic is the period beginning when the military campaigns of Alexander the Great conquered
territories were infused with Greek culture including philosophy, language, art, and religion. After
Alexander died, the Greek dynasties that were divided among his generals were soon conquered by
the Romans. They then adapted the Greek culture and spreading it among their Empire. While then,
Athens continue following Plato s, Aristotle s, and several new Hellenistic schools as a
philosophical. The new schools started out still continue to discuss the same issues of nature. Yet, it
was eventually added a therapeutic element, offering accounts for how to attain happiness. Each
Hellenistic school then started to develop their own idea of what it would take for mankind to
achieve eudaimonia, happiness. The concept they came to will include Epicureanism, Stoicism,
Skepticism, and Cynicism. Epicureanism came from Epicurean school and was founded by
Epicurus. He adapted the Atomistic views of Democritus saying that happiness will only achieve

view, the highest pleasure which is the freedom from fear was obtained by friendship, living a
virtuous life and having knowledge. One of the examples he gave was when eating, one should
avoiding eating too richly, for it could lead to dissatisfaction later on because, in the realization of
that, one could not afford the same delicacies in the future. Epicurus categorized pleasure and pain

Langston Hughes Inspiration
There are countless times as one grows up when you just stop for a second and reminisce on
random things. These memories serve for a very special purpose as the things you do in life
shapes you into the person you will become. Today, many authors and poets make use of their
memories and experiences in their work as a way to reflect back on their lives, raise awareness, or
just simply to tell a story. As a prominent contributor to the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes
was an inspirational poet who highlighted many aspects of the urban life of African Americans
through reflections of his own life and experiences. As a writer, a poet and a prominent activist of
the civil rights movement, Langston Hughes was a man that was not only... Show more content on

Through this mindset, Hughes set out to revolutionize poetry and created such expressive and
inspirational work just by reflecting on his own life. He also takes into account with the existing
racism at this time that was against him and anyone of color. By incorporating his life into his
work, it created a voice for those who were not able to speak up and as a result, life met art (The
Harlem Project).
Throughout his works, especially his poetry, Hughes also draws inspiration from music. He
describes the blues as sad funny songs too sad to be funny and too funny to be sad as the songs
hold laughter and pain, hunger and heartache (Poetry Criticism). This point of view is
noticeably reflected onto his poems when some stanzas are in the form of the typical blues song
(Poetry Criticism). In other words, the stanza had two nearly identical lines followed by a third
that contrasts the first two and this is seen in Same in Blues where he uses the repetition of the
word baby in the first two lines. In his poetry, Hughes captures the voices, experience, emotions
and spirit of the African Americans during this time. His poems have also been influenced by the
Afro American life essays written by W.E.B. DuBois and the black vernacular (DiYanni p.700
705). This is shown in Fine Clothes to the Jew, as Hughes addresses the hardship and struggle of
urban African Americans in Harlem who left the deep south in hopes of achieving their American
Dream. However,

always led the advances in surfboards (Longnecker, Petty, Palich, Moore, 2010). With the company
that supplied 90 percent of surfboard makers core materials closing and companies having to find

them to take over the surfboard industry, potential rivals will more than likely try to find ways to

keeping ahead since they will have a nice foundation laid before the other companies can catch up.

The Social Causes Of Social Solutions To Climate Change
Climate change is one of the most harmful things to humanity because it affects everyone who lives
on Earth. Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups
of people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way.
Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute
to the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot
be blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by
climate change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to
climate change. It wasn t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty
and people don t contribute because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all
of our combined actions that add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today.
In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for
us to come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and
start acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and
more efficiently. Though we have been dealing with the human influence on climate change for
centuries, especially since the Industrial Revolution, we can still lessen the effects. We can t
expect the problem to go away if only a few people decide to

William Shakespeare s Jabberwocky And Lear s Limericks...
When everything in our reality seems like unreal, it can be difficult to distinguish between sense
and nonsense. Everyday we seem to read another tragic headline about people getting assaulted
for being their true selves, countries being torn apart because of hate and intolerance and
innocent children getting killed in the crossfire. The frightening part is when these horrors that
never make any sense become normal to us. It begs the question, has the world gone mad or
have we? Growing up can be a difficult and confusing experience for all. As we grow older and
realize the world is more than what is right in front of us. We ask questions to try and make
sense of the world as we grow from the simplicity of childhood to the complications of adulthood.
As we mature, our perceptions of the world change drastically. A child s closed off world view is
challenged as he begins to ask questions and explore. What seemed simple before is much more
intricate now. The use of nonsensein both Carroll s Jabberwockyand Lear s limericks from The
Book of Nonsense force us to challenge nonsensical situations so we can grow and adjust to the
harsh realities of our world by realizing that things are not always what they seem. Both authors do
this effectively through the absence of meaning and the use of juxtaposition.
The absence of meaning in both Carroll and Lear s poems is significant, even though it may seem
like the opposite. When reading these poems for the first time, the reader may be

Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer
Run Lola Run by Tom Tykwer is a stunning film incorporating an array of distinctively visual
features. Distinctively visual texts are designed to manipulate the way we explore the images
we see and affects the way we make interpretations of the experiences we encounter in the world.
The distinctively visuals represented Tykwer s film, is significantly strong as unique images
dominate the screen to create a thrilling and suspenseful film. The story is told through images,
symbols and motifs as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. I always start with an
image as quoted by Tykwer emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas. The most
significant visual conveyed throughout Run Lola Run is that of time. There are several
references to the limited amount of time Lola has to save Manni from Ronnie and his gang. The
film is played out in real time as each run takes 20 minutes to complete, adding an atmosphere of
realism and tension toward the viewer. Tykwer incorporates a variety of symbolic representations
of time through the constant use of clocks. In the opening sequence, the viewer observes a large
and dominating pendulum of the gargoyal clock swinging loudly from side to side. As Lola runs
out of the apartment, we observe a clock in Lola s bedroom. Aslo, while Manni is waiting for Lola
outside the phone booth, we constantly view him looking up at the clock outside reminding him of
how much time he has left. This constant recurring image of clocks

The Role of Nature in My Life
Things We See Today The role of nature in my life has greatly changed in the last five years, as
well as in the change from adolescence to adulthood. I don t believe that nature has changed but
my perception of nature has and always is, from the rising sun over the cityscape of San
Francisco as I take the L Train uphill on Taraval Street, to watching the quarter sized, glistening
diamond, snowflakes fall outside my window as I try and stay awake to catch a glimpse of Santa
before morning. To me, Nature is not the woodsor a long, sweating hike, nor is it Golden Gate Park

the only thing natural I liked. I didn t go out in my woods or out on my friends property. The
closet I came to nature then, was the National Geographic program on PBS. Nature and I would

Negative Eugenics
Eugenics will become a universal practice in the future due to the fact that humanity never
learned the lesson from the Holocaust and the Second World War. For instance, in the years
immediately after the war, many American geneticists worked as evaluators for many newborns
adoptive placements. They would focus on the [child] s ability to appear convincingly white,
relying upon examination of the sacral spot at the base of the spine, nose width, lip thickness,
hair texture and shape, and even scrotum coloration to determine the type of family most suitable
for the child. Moreover, Peter Singer, who was a moral philosopher born at the end of the war,
publically endorsed the termination of not only disabled infants, but children and adults as well.
Shockingly, he was also a supporter of the Nazi Aktion T4 program, More recently, an American
jail sterilized all of its female prisoners who both failed to graduate from high school and had five
or more children. The jail administrators did this without the consent of these prisoners. These were
examples of negative eugenics, the one practiced by the Nazi party and caused the deaths of
millions of people. Clearly, the American geneticists, Singer and the jail administrators all wanted
to improve the quality of the population by discouraging the reproductions of people with less
desirable traits, such as African American features, disabilities and low intelligence. Both the
continued practices of negative eugenics as well as

Advantages Of Two Party System
What is a party system? In Party and Party Systems , G. Sartori described it as the systems of
interactions resulting from inter party competition. Two party system in the other hand is a method
where two major political parties dominate a government. Among these two parties, one party holds
the majority of the legislation and it is referred as the majority party while the other party is
referred as the minority party. Other parties might exist but they have no political influence. For the

An example that we can refer to as a successful two party country would be the United States, in
which the majority elected officials are either Democrats or Republicans. The same two parties,
have constituted the American two party system since the Civil War. Hence, the competition of the
two parties has been consistently close ever since. It is said that, Americans believe that the two
party system is the best method yet contrived for assuring freedom of political opposition and for
organizing power and the transfer of power. (Dickinson, 1964) which shows the strong stand of

Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of
a creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve
murdered four members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to
leave no evidence, clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure
out the mystery of the Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until
they get found out and get taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the
ultimate punishment. Because this novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get
all the details from the actual event. Just like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV
news report, these details can get tedious and boring. When writing this book, Capote had the
intention of giving the story a creative style that would capture the reader as any fictional book
would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how to mix his writing style between realistic
and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the story, Truman Capotehas the intention
to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the environment of the story. He wants us to feel
the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to
the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main murder of the Clutter family occurs,
Capote spends a decent amount of

Our Time John Wideman Analysis
In the essay Our Time by John Edgar Wideman, Wideman is speaking on how he and his brother s
life differ even though they grew up together. The author utilizes many distinctive literary
techniques such as personification, breaking the narrative, point of view, and a couple examples
of diction. One of the literary methods Wideman uses is personification. My senses at times
tingles and itch (Wideman). Writers use personification to trigger the emotions of the reader. It
also makes sentences additionally fascinating. It allows the reader to connect with the author on a
more personal level. The example I utilized gives the reader a decent example of how Wideman
gave human like actions to his senses because that is how much his outlook on life... Show more

Our Time is one great example of an essay that exemplifies the use of different literary devices,
which helps us as readers connect with him as a writer even better.
John Edgar Widerman s Our Time addresses the controversial nature vs. nurture argument. This
essay about John and his brother demonstrates how nurture plays a stronger and bigger role than
nature. Trying not to be a product of your environment is so detrimental in making it in life.
There are so many people blame their upbringing for the trouble they get in. Just because your
mom or dad was not the richest people, or honest, or even if they were in and out of jail, drunks,
drug addicts or whatever. That does not mean you should follow in their footsteps. No matter what,
us as children should always strive to be better than our parents. No matter the pigmentation of your
skin there will always be stereotypes. When some people see an African Americanmale with a t
shirt, jeans, and a pair of Jordan s on they might instantly think he is some type of thug or drug
dealer. When some people see a single mother no matter African American or Caucasian with
more than four kids some may think that they the kids might not have the same fathers. The
crazy part is that the young African American male you see might be a doctor, a lawyer, or
maybe the CEO of the company you want to work for, the single mother you see might be
widowed, or anything. One goal in life should to be never to fall into the stereotype of your race,
gender, or

Essay Growing Up, Staying Young
Growing Up, Staying Young
I had trouble sleeping that night. The peaceful, rhythmic breathing of my younger sister across the
room could not calm me as I lay under the covers in the dark, listening for the heavy footsteps of an
elderly man sneaking through the downstairs floor of my house. With one hand firmly choking Red
Blankie, I reached with the other to turn the alarm clock on my bedstand toward me. The
fluorescent red digits whispered 12:03 in the still, black room. Perhaps he will come soon.
Delicate tingles danced up my arms, as I froze like a nervous cat, ears up, ready and alert. I
rehearsed the carefully planned sequence of events in my head. A suspicious and unfamiliar sound

This world is but a canvas to our imagination, wrote Henry David Thoreau. As a young child, I
clung to this inspirational message and ran with it to millions of marvelous places in my mind. I
believed in everything, from my invisible collie Fluffy to Santa Claus, Rudolf, and the rest of the
reindeer. Everything I saw and heard and read sang to me, inspired me, and thrilled me.
When my mom wouldn t let me have a puppy, Fluffy came into my life. She was my imaginary
collie, every bit as real as the dogs I saw climbing against the scratched windows of the mall pet
shops. I took her for walks around my back yard, fed her juicy crimson mulberries from our tree,
and taught her to rescue children from burning buildings, like Lassie did on Nickelodeon. My time
with Fluffy was limited, however, when I found a job in the restaurant business. As the owner,
waiter, and cook, I spent many hours in the red and yellow playhouse in my basement taking orders
from hungry customers and preparing exotic foods for their culinary pleasure.
My best friend Jenny joined me in many of my childhood adventures. After reading Freckle Juice
by Judy Blume in second grade, she and I were convinced we could get rid of her horrible brown
freckles with a fantastic concoction of rainbow colored vitamins, brilliant blue bathroom cleanser,
delightful soap bubbles, hairspray mist, and two tablespoons of mouthwash. Unfortunately, Jenny

Epidermal Layer Of Skin Essay
Epidermal and Dermal Layers of Skin in Relation to the Permanence of Fingerprints The tough,
relatively thin outer layer of the skin, or epidermis is made up of five layers of keratinocyte cells.
This outer layer of the skin acts as the bodies first natural form of defense by preventing most
bacteria, viruses and foreign objects from penetrating the body. Additionally, the epidermis

The Sheep Revolution in John UpdikeВґs A P
At first glance, A P written by John Updike, looks like a funny, slangy, youthful story about a
young, nineteen year old boy, Sammy, who has the normal problems that come along with his age
group; abhorrence for his job, talking despondently about the older generation, and dreaming
about girls he sees in the store. However, when people look at the history of the 1960 s, they find
it shows a change in American social values and morals. Furthermore, the revolution of multiple
groups of minorities through the civil rights movement, such as women, gays, and African

One of the biggest social groups that had some of the major impacts during the 1960 s were the
youths in America, consisting of late teens to the late twenties. However, others that fell into
that age group had already cemented their future with earlier choices in their lives. For example,
the checker that worked next to Sammy, his name was Stokesie, a young twenty two year old
who was already married with two children. Stokesie also holds the belief that he will become

going into public is a bit bold, especially for the time period shows somewhat of a revolt by the
girls. Although, someone can contend that if a girl or girls went into a grocery store in a bikini
during today s time, it would result in the same sort of reaction. One can also argue that the story
is condescending toward women and shows them in a negative light. Especially, from the main
character Sammy, with his description of the girls, also the nick names he gives the three girls like
Plaid, Big Tall Goony Goony, and Queenie. Moreover, the assumptions about how a girls

Pros And Cons Of Code Of Ethics
Recognizing the Evaluative Standpoints
For years archeologists and other specialists have stressed and continue to stress the need for a
professional code of ethics for the treatment of human remains. Moral phenomenology along with
the controversy that surrounds ownership rights have been the primary concerns for those
interested in the creation of such code. Jien Kim and Dawnie W. Steadman tackle the challenge by
laying out ground rules that must be followed to ensure the development of an equitable set of
conduct guidelines. In their article, A Review of Codes of Ethicsin the United States and Ethical
Dilemmas Surrounding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)
they unravel the complication of prognosticating ethical perplexity. Much of the haziness comes in,

Comparing The Prometheus And Genesis
Analyzing texts is one of the most fundamental and key parts to drawing conclusions about them.
Upon analyzing the two versions of the Prometheus myth and the consequent chapters of Genesis, it
is quite clear that how one views each piece is subject to their previous knowledge. Today, it is
much easier to read Prometheusobjectively. It would generally be safe to assume that no one in
proximity is a worshipper of Zeus. Reading Genesis is fairly different. Everyone in North
America, and most other parts of the world, have at least a very general idea of what Genesis says,
or is believed to say. In this essay, the understanding of differences in texts that should be similar
will be explored. Although the two versions of the Prometheus and Genesis should essentially be
the same, there are many differences within their respective plots and in the language used that
make them contradictory and forces the reader to rely heavily on interpretation to try to combat
these inconsistencies.
Aeschylus Prometheus Bound is a story of accepting punishment for the greater good. It begins
with Prometheus being dragged away to be crucified and punished for interrupting Zeus plans to
exterminate the human populace. One reads the punishment, being chained to a rock where he
must wait for his hero, who has yet to be born, as gruesome and awful, and takes the grace and
dignity displayed by Prometheus as an invitation to give him sympathy. I gave them intelligence, I

Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit stream signal
to control a system. It contains the initial design process and simulations of a bit stream based PID
controller to control and stabilize the output of a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the
discrete time domain. Processing The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the
potential performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in
continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results.

Girl Interrupted Analysis
Pain demands to be felt. Through analysing one written text and three visual texts the reoccurring
connection between them is mental illness. All four texts bring about the idea of pain in the world
being inevitable and mental detachment from the world being the only solution, making me
question the world that we live in. Fight Club (1999) written by Chuck Palahniuk, Girl,
Interrupted (1999) directed by James Mangold, Requeim for a Dream directed by Darren
Anronofsky (2000), and Clean Shaven (1993) directed by Lodge Kerrigan each show a realist
perspective of coping with mental illness and the struggle of reality. Each character with their own

The key to the detachment is losing all hope it s when we lose hope that we essentially give up
on life due to reality being too hard to face, and in that moment, we find freedom. In the novel
Fight Club, the characterisation of Tyler Durden, is interesting in the sense that he creates a
protective alter ego for himself, Hey, you created me. I didn t create some loser alter ego to
make myself feel better. (Fight Club, 1999), this quote shows that Tyler s unhappiness with
reality is reason enough for him to create a different reality through adventure and the elements
of adrenaline and danger in contrast to his average mediocre life. Tyler s adventurous spirit is
seen through the creation of Fight Club where he puts himself in in extreme situations, just to
see if he will survive and even when there is no possible way he can survive his adventurous
ways he still challenges himself. For instance, in the beginning and end of the novel he is on top

Two dominant civilizations of the Ancient World; Greece and Persia; were similar in multiple
ways. Both civilizations were heavily invested in militaristic assets which including military forces
over sea and land. As a result of being highly invested in their military assets, both civilizations
used military force to gain power. However, the two civilizations differed in the manner in which
they were governed. For example, Ancient Persia was united under a single ruler that was known as
a king. Ancient Greeceon the other hand, was governed by military officials, aristocrats, and
occasionally tyrants. In return the manner in which each civilization was controlled by their ruler,

My Strengths Weaknesses
My Strength and Weakness
Everyone is different in many ways. There are differences in gender, nationality, religious activities
and there are differences in strengths and weaknesses. Those strengths and weaknesses are looked
at in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles
we play on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses.
Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what
is happening in my surroundings. I owe a lot of this to my 11 years of military service. The military

Procrastination and being laid back are two of my biggest weaknesses. The behavior has minimized
since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do
them at months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have
been started at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in
place is a daily pulse check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to
ensure that no task goes undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my
tasks and there was always a rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the
Army 10 years ago, I also procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating
that there was little or no time to complete my higher education. After several job declines due to
not having a degree; I decided to take the step and finish my degree.
Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. With
my military background I have been lead to believe that your squad is like family and things are
to be discussed just in case we ever did go to war I would know what would motivate the soldier
in a time of crisis. I have bought this thought with me into Corporate America and it has come to
hurt me as bringing in your personal life into the workplace. When I was going through the crisis
with my mother; I worked in the Spanish Department and my manager

It is believed that the majority American public hold the beliefs that the mentally ill are
unpredictable, irrational, dangerous, bizarre, incompetent, and unkempt , and these stereotypes
have only strengthened from the 1950s to the present. (Thoits, 2011) Despite educational
campaigns, there is still a strong desire among the public to keep a social distance from the
mentally ill in an attempt to avoid awkward social interactions. Studies have shown that there s a
direct correlation between discrimination and low self esteem issues among mental patients. Low
self esteem is also linked to negative health effects. Not all patients who experienced social
rejection report a low self worth. It is stated that patients who experienced social rejection already
demonstrated low self worth and self esteem issues. Some studies even find that stigmatized
patients have a very high self esteem. (Thoits, 2011) A study done by National Alliance for the
Mentally Ill consumers, Wahl (1999) expressed that eighteen percent of the sample took the
stigma as a form of empowerment. Another study done by Lysaker (2007) showed that patients
with a high insight on their stigma were associated with lower depression, lower quality of life,
and lower self esteem. It was also found that these associations are stronger for patients with a high
self stigma than for those with a low self stigma. Low

How Does Gram-Negative Bacteria Structure
Gram negative bacteria structure
The lipid A palmitoyltransferase pagP is an outer membrane enzyme of the gram negative bacteria
Escherichia coli. Gram negative bacteria are surrounded by two lipid bilayer membranes, which
enclose the periplasmic space composed of peptidoglycan that contains ions and proteins. The two
membranes differ in composition and function. With respect to composition, the inner or
cytoplasmic membrane is composed of phospholipids, such as phosphatidylethanolamine,
phospatidylglycerol and cardiolipin found in both the inner and outer leaflet. The outer membrane
is highly asymmetric with its inner leaflet having the same phospholipid composition as the inner

In order for the bacteria to establish a successful attachment on the host surfaces, they need to have
an adaptation ability towards external changes. Certain cellular regulators transmit signals from the
exterior to the inner part of the cell via cytoplasmic secondary messenger systems or so called
alomers. In bacteria this function is performed by the 3 ,5 cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)
which is an ubiquitous molecule found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The cAMP targets its
receptor, the cAMP receptor protein (CRP) and this CRP cAMP complex formed binds to the
DNA in order to activate the expression of genes that code for enzymes responsible for the
supply of energy of the cell, besides the cAMP is a derivative of ATP independent of glucose. It
is studied that the CRP cAMP is a global regulator of gene expression of almost 200 operons in
E.coli. Type 1 fimbriation is dependent on growth phase and it is found that CRP cAMP
regulates type 1 fimbriae expression during the exponential growth phase. CRP and cAMP levels
are influenced by environmental conditions mainly by glucose availability and osmolarity. These
particular conditions affect also the DNA topology in E. coli. There are others global regulators,

  • 2. Human Resource Development Research Article focuses on the analysis and resolution of managerial issues based on analytical and empirical studies. A Study of HRD Concepts, Structure of HRD Departments, and HRD Practices in India T V Rao, Raju Rao, and Taru Yadav Human Resource Development (HRD) as a function has evolved in India indigenously from the year 1975 when Larsen Toubro (L T) conceptualized HRD as an integrated system and decided to separate it from the personnel function. Since then, most organizations have started new HR departments or redesignated their personnel and other departments as HRD departments. Today, there are high expectations from HRD. Good HRD requires well structured function, appropriately identified HRD systems, and competent staff to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Structurally, HRD is to be a subsystem of HRF and integration of this with the other two subsystems (Personnel Administration and Worker Affairs) is to be done by a person at the Director level (for example, Vice President Personnel HRD), through task forces and subsystem linkages. Inter system 1. linkages were outlined between various HRD subsystems to have an integrated system. Pareek and Rao also outlined a philosophy for the new HR system, which included 14 principles to be kept in mind while designing the HRD system. These principles deal with both the purpose of HRD system and the process of its implementation (see Box). In essence, the Integrated HRD Systems Approach of Pareek and Rao (1975) has the following elements: A separate and differentiated HRD depart ment with full time HRD staff. Six HRD subsystems including OD. Interlinkages between the various subsys tems. Designed with 14 principles in mind. Linked to other subsystems of HRF. After L T accepted these recommendations in full and started implementing them, the State Bank of India (the single largest Indian Bank) and its Associates decided to use the Integrated HRD Systems Approach and created a new HRD Department. By mid 80s, a large number of organizations in India had established HRD departments. • 3. Analysis of the Brown v Board of Education Case It is imperative to note that the case of Brown v Board of Education is based on a chronological history of the fight towards realization of human rights in the United States. This essay shall begin by discussing the history chronologically and accessing it whilst the essay goes along. It is clear that even though the United States constitution guaranteed equal rights to all men, the issue of slavery prevailed under violation of other human rights. It was only after the Civil War that slave trade was considered unlawful. It was not until 1865 that the Thirteenth Amendment was put into effect to help bring to an end slave trade. The need to strengthen the legal rights of slaves was noticed and by 1868 the Fourteenth Amendment was used to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decisions that followed prepared the way on which the case of Brown case took place. The first of the series of cases was the case of Murray v. Maryland. The Maryland school of law was rejecting students basing on their skin color (Anderson, 2004). Thurgood represented Murray in this decision where he argued that then he was as qualified as other white students who were admitted into the same school. He argued that the criteria used in admitting students was discriminating and the student did not have another institution to pursue his career. He further argued that failure to admit him was going against his right to education. The challenge of the Maryland s decision was before the Baltimore City Court. The Baltimore City Court decided in favor of Maryland. Maryland appealed to the Maryland Court of Appeal and the court upheld the decision. The continued fight by NAACP Legal Defense took the case of Missouri exparte Gaines v. Canada. The Missouri school of law offered Gaines an option of being admitted into the school of the blacks that they intended to build. He was also given an option of attending another school whereby his fee was to be paid by the school. Gaines rejected the said offers. His decision reached the Supreme Court, which held in his favor. The Supreme Court cited the equal protection clause. The subsequent decisions were founded on the decision in Murray. The legal battle reached its peak in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit Introduction What exactly happened on that Pentecost day? The traditional view says that this is the coming of the Holy Spirit to inaugurate the Church Age. The question that arises is what does this mean and how did it affect the church. The day of Pentecost empowered the church to be able to achieve its intended purpose. History of the Pentecost The Classical Pentecostal doctrine of the baptism in the Holy Spirit was first formulated at the turn of the twentieth century. Nevertheless, Classical Pentecostals claim that their view of Spirit baptism is based on Scripture, and that this doctrine was a normative part of the experience and teaching of the New Testament church. They further claim that this doctrine should be a normative part of the experience and teaching of the Church today. However, the biblical texts, which are cited by Classical Pentecostals to support their view, have been interpreted differently by non Pentecostals. The practical value of this study is to help Classical Pentecostals and non Pentecostals identify the source of this doctrine, and to understand why they disagree on this important point. The Arrival Luke elucidated the description of Pentecost as fully come. Pentecost brought about a new fellowship. The Kingdom of God henceforth is sanctified in the Spirit of Pentecost. The new thing is not in the wind and fire, or the gift of tongues, but in the possession of the Spirit by each for the good of all. Peter Kent outlines Peter s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So great was the change, some of the boys in the band had trouble recognizing him. After that, Elvis didn t work for five months. It didn t get any better in 1975. On January 8th, Elvis celebrated his fortieth birthday. He worried that he was getting up there, and that hurt. Twenty days later, Elvis entered the hospital for, among other problems, an enlarged colon. At least that s what the press was told. And it was true. But it was also true that Elvis was there for another detoxification. This, too, would be confirmed years later by Dr. Nick [George Nichopoulos]. At the time, however, Nichopoulos merely stated that Elvis had been sick for several days but was reluctant to go to the hospital. He said it had required several more days of talking before Elvis submitted to the physician s wishes, during which time a suite was held for him on the Baptist Hospital s eighteenth floor. Finally, on January 28th at five a.m., the telephone rang at the nurse s station. Dr. Nick said he was leaving Graceland with Elvis and would be arriving in fifteen minutes. Spend time in the space and select the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be in order to take up enough visual space. Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal wall, hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of pieces in order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall, you will be making the room feel larger. Choosing Art For Your Bedroom When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like to get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for romance? The style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for your bedroom space. Because art is such an emotive tool, it is particularly important in your bedroom that the colors of the art displayed help accomplish your bedroom s overarching theme. For example, red is the color of passion, and although a painting that uses a large swathe of red is great for a room designated for romance, it may not be well suited in a room designated for relaxation. • 9. Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zoneis the star around the planetor region must survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers. Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like. Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2 billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean. Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable. Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does ... In today s society, the emphasis on organic food and conventional food is quite big. Many say that organic food is much healthier and more nutritious than conventional. Milk is an important food in many people s diets, it is essentially the food that babies grow up on and it is important to know what is healthier. It is defined that organic milk comes from cows that have not been treated with antibiotics and given hormones, and have been fed at least 30% of its diet on pasture. Conventional milk can be produced the same way, but it does not have to follow the strict rules. It is important to determine whether organic milk is worth the money and if it is healthier than conventional milk. Several studies have been analyzed and they split in opinion whether organic milk is healthier. The studies that support the yes argument, state that organic milk is healthier because it has higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid and О± linolenic acid; of minerals such as selenium; and the ration of n 6 to n 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids is lower. ( ATP and Muscle Contraction . Boundless Biology) All three groups were given a 2cm length of psoas muscle, which was placed on a microscope slide with a small drop of glycerol. First, we measured each fiber, and then added 2 drops of one of the solutions, Solution A; .25% ATP in distilled water, Solution B; .25% ATP solution in water, .05M KCI, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water, and Solution C; .05 M KC1, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water. We waited 30 seconds after adding the solution and we measured the fiber again to see if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our hypothesis was not supported, because the fiber size did not change. Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to learn if any of the three solutions used for the experiment would cause the fiber to have a muscle contraction and if there wasn t any muscle contraction, understand why the solution didn t cause a muscle contraction. Hellenistic School Hellenistic is the period beginning when the military campaigns of Alexander the Great conquered territories were infused with Greek culture including philosophy, language, art, and religion. After Alexander died, the Greek dynasties that were divided among his generals were soon conquered by the Romans. They then adapted the Greek culture and spreading it among their Empire. While then, Athens continue following Plato s, Aristotle s, and several new Hellenistic schools as a philosophical. The new schools started out still continue to discuss the same issues of nature. Each Hellenistic school then started to develop their own idea of what it would take for mankind to achieve eudaimonia, happiness. The concept they came to will include Epicureanism, Stoicism, Skepticism, and Cynicism. Epicureanism came from Epicurean school and was founded by Epicurus. These memories serve for a very special purpose as the things you do in life shapes you into the person you will become. Today, many authors and poets make use of their memories and experiences in their work as a way to reflect back on their lives, raise awareness, or just simply to tell a story. As a prominent contributor to the Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes was an inspirational poet who highlighted many aspects of the urban life of African Americans through reflections of his own life and experiences. Through this mindset, Hughes set out to revolutionize poetry and created such expressive and inspirational work just by reflecting on his own life. He also takes into account with the existing racism at this time that was against him and anyone of color. By incorporating his life into his work, it created a voice for those who were not able to speak up and as a result, life met art (The Harlem Project). Throughout his works, especially his poetry, Hughes also draws inspiration from music. He describes the blues as sad funny songs too sad to be funny and too funny to be sad as the songs hold laughter and pain, hunger and heartache (Poetry Criticism). This point of view is noticeably reflected onto his poems when some stanzas are in the form of the typical blues song (Poetry Criticism). In other words, the stanza had two nearly identical lines followed by a third that contrasts the first two and this is seen in Same in Blues where he uses the repetition of the word baby in the first two lines. In his poetry, Hughes captures the voices, experience, emotions and spirit of the African Americans during this time. His poems have also been influenced by the Afro American life essays written by W.E.B. DuBois and the black vernacular (DiYanni p.700 705). This is shown in Fine Clothes to the Jew, as Hughes addresses the hardship and struggle of urban African Americans in Harlem who left the deep south in hopes of achieving their American Dream. Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups of people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way. Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute to the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot be blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by climate change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to climate change. It wasn t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty and people don t contribute because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all of our combined actions that add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today. In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for us to come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and start acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and more efficiently. Everyday we seem to read another tragic headline about people getting assaulted for being their true selves, countries being torn apart because of hate and intolerance and innocent children getting killed in the crossfire. The frightening part is when these horrors that never make any sense become normal to us. It begs the question, has the world gone mad or have we? Growing up can be a difficult and confusing experience for all. As we grow older and realize the world is more than what is right in front of us. We ask questions to try and make sense of the world as we grow from the simplicity of childhood to the complications of adulthood. As we mature, our perceptions of the world change drastically. A child s closed off world view is challenged as he begins to ask questions and explore. What seemed simple before is much more intricate now. The use of nonsensein both Carroll s Jabberwockyand Lear s limericks from The Book of Nonsense force us to challenge nonsensical situations so we can grow and adjust to the harsh realities of our world by realizing that things are not always what they seem. Both authors do this effectively through the absence of meaning and the use of juxtaposition. The absence of meaning in both Carroll and Lear s poems is significant, even though it may seem like the opposite. When reading these poems for the first time, the reader may be ... The story is told through images, symbols and motifs as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. I always start with an image as quoted by Tykwer emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas. The most significant visual conveyed throughout Run Lola Run is that of time. There are several references to the limited amount of time Lola has to save Manni from Ronnie and his gang. The film is played out in real time as each run takes 20 minutes to complete, adding an atmosphere of realism and tension toward the viewer. Tykwer incorporates a variety of symbolic representations of time through the constant use of clocks. In the opening sequence, the viewer observes a large and dominating pendulum of the gargoyal clock swinging loudly from side to side. As Lola runs out of the apartment, we observe a clock in Lola s bedroom. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence, clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the story, Truman Capotehas the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the environment of the story. • 48. Comparing The Prometheus And Genesis Analyzing texts is one of the most fundamental and key parts to drawing conclusions about them. Upon analyzing the two versions of the Prometheus myth and the consequent chapters of Genesis, it is quite clear that how one views each piece is subject to their previous knowledge. Today, it is much easier to read Prometheusobjectively. It would generally be safe to assume that no one in proximity is a worshipper of Zeus. Reading Genesis is fairly different. Everyone in North America, and most other parts of the world, have at least a very general idea of what Genesis says, or is believed to say. In this essay, the understanding of differences in texts that should be similar will be explored. Although the two versions of the Prometheus and Genesis should essentially be the same, there are many differences within their respective plots and in the language used that make them contradictory and forces the reader to rely heavily on interpretation to try to combat these inconsistencies. Aeschylus Prometheus Bound is a story of accepting punishment for the greater good. It begins with Prometheus being dragged away to be crucified and punished for interrupting Zeus plans to exterminate the human populace. One reads the punishment, being chained to a rock where he must wait for his hero, who has yet to be born, as gruesome and awful, and takes the grace and dignity displayed by Prometheus as an invitation to give him sympathy. I gave them intelligence, I made them masters of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bit Stream Controllers For Wireless Power Transfer System пЂ Bit Stream Controllers for Wireless Power Transfer System Nathan Pyle Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Auckland, New Zealand Email: npyl999@aucklanduni.ac.nz Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit stream signal to control a system. It contains the initial design process and simulations of a bit stream based PID controller to control and stabilize the output of a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the discrete time domain. Processing The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the potential performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results. • 50. Girl Interrupted Analysis Pain demands to be felt. Through analysing one written text and three visual texts the reoccurring connection between them is mental illness. All four texts bring about the idea of pain in the world being inevitable and mental detachment from the world being the only solution, making me question the world that we live in. Fight Club (1999) written by Chuck Palahniuk, Girl, Interrupted (1999) directed by James Mangold, Requeim for a Dream directed by Darren Anronofsky (2000), and Clean Shaven (1993) directed by Lodge Kerrigan each show a realist perspective of coping with mental illness and the struggle of reality. Each character with their own reality that they face we see the lengths that they are willing to go to ease their constant pain they feel making the individual question the borderline of sanity and insanity. The key to the detachment is losing all hope it s when we lose hope that we essentially give up on life due to reality being too hard to face, and in that moment, we find freedom. In the novel Fight Club, the characterisation of Tyler Durden, is interesting in the sense that he creates a protective alter ego for himself, Hey, you created me. I didn t create some loser alter ego to make myself feel better. (Fight Club, 1999), this quote shows that Tyler s unhappiness with reality is reason enough for him to create a different reality through adventure and the elements of adrenaline and danger in contrast to his average mediocre life. Tyler s adventurous spirit is seen through the creation of Fight Club where he puts himself in in extreme situations, just to see if he will survive and even when there is no possible way he can survive his adventurous ways he still challenges himself. For instance, in the beginning and end of the novel he is on top of a Skyscraper where a bomb is set to go off at a certain time, he has a pistol in his mouth and is ready to ... N.p., 29 Nov. 2016. . 24 Apr. 2017. In the report The Criminalization of Immigration in the United States written for the American Immigration Council, Walter Ewing, Daniel E. MartГnez and RubГ©n G. Rumbaut analyze how immigrants are often stigmatized as criminals, even though the statistics show otherwise. The paper studies the criminalization of immigrants in great detail by using several highly credible sources such as National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) and National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) and conclude that Fears that immigration will lead to an escalation of crime and delinquency are unfounded. Immigration Travel Ban: Executive Order Limiting Entry into the Unite States. Congressional Digest, vol. 96, no. 3, 2017, pp. 2. The article Immigration Travel Ban was published in Congressional Digest, an independent, scholarly publication featuring controversies before Congress. Both civilizations were heavily invested in militaristic assets which including military forces over sea and land. As a result of being highly invested in their military assets, both civilizations used military force to gain power. However, the two civilizations differed in the manner in which they were governed. For example, Ancient Persia was united under a single ruler that was known as a king. Ancient Greeceon the other hand, was governed by military officials, aristocrats, and occasionally tyrants. There are differences in gender, nationality, religious activities and there are differences in strengths and weaknesses. Those strengths and weaknesses are looked at in Corporate America and they assist the higher management in making decisions for the roles we play on each team. I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses. Over the years, I have learned how to react and respond in different ways and it all depends on what is happening in my surroundings. I owe a lot of this to my 11 years of military service. The military trains you in a way that once you are done with their training; you will walk, talk and act as a soldier is supposed to act. There are times when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Procrastination and being laid back are two of my biggest weaknesses. The behavior has minimized since assuming the leadership role with Bank of America. I always would take on tasks and do them at months end then I would find myself working 18 hour days to complete what could have been started at the beginning of the month. One of the good things that my leadership has in place is a daily pulse check. This enables us to see where we stand as a leadership team and to ensure that no task goes undone. At the beginning, I continually pushed back on completing my tasks and there was always a rush at months end to complete all assigned tasks. After leaving the Army 10 years ago, I also procrastinated on my higher education until recently. I kept on stating that there was little or no time to complete my higher education. After several job declines due to not having a degree; I decided to take the step and finish my degree. Being too open or showing feelings at the work place is another weakness that I do carry. With my military background I have been lead to believe that your squad is like family and things are to be discussed just in case we ever did go to war I would know what would motivate the soldier in a time of crisis. I have bought this thought with me into Corporate America and it has come to hurt me as bringing in your personal life into the workplace. A study preformed in Tokyo by Kido, Yoshifumi; Kawakami, Norito; Miyamoto, Yuki; Chiba, Rie; Tsuchiya, Masao (2013) showed that former patients that reside in more tight knit, willing to help communities will find the transition less threatening because of their expectations of receiving help from their neighbors. Yoshifumi, Norito, Yuki, Rie, and Masao (2013) also reported, People living in a community with high trust might generalize their feelings of trust to people with mental illnessand perceive them as trustworthy as a part of the community. It is believed that the majority American public hold the beliefs that the mentally ill are unpredictable, irrational, dangerous, bizarre, incompetent, and unkempt , and these stereotypes have only strengthened from the 1950s to the present. (Thoits, 2011) Despite educational campaigns, there is still a strong desire among the public to keep a social distance from the mentally ill in an attempt to avoid awkward social interactions. Studies have shown that there s a direct correlation between discrimination and low self esteem issues among mental patients. Low self esteem is also linked to negative health effects. Not all patients who experienced social rejection report a low self worth. It is stated that patients who experienced social rejection already demonstrated low self worth and self esteem issues. Some studies even find that stigmatized patients have a very high self esteem. (Thoits, 2011) A study done by National Alliance for the Mentally Ill consumers, Wahl (1999) expressed that eighteen percent of the sample took the stigma as a form of empowerment. Another study done by Lysaker (2007) showed that patients with a high insight on their stigma were associated with lower depression, lower quality of life, and lower self esteem. It was also found that these associations are stronger for patients with a high self stigma than for those with a low self stigma. Low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. How Does Gram-Negative Bacteria Structure Gram negative bacteria structure The lipid A palmitoyltransferase pagP is an outer membrane enzyme of the gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli. Gram negative bacteria are surrounded by two lipid bilayer membranes, which enclose the periplasmic space composed of peptidoglycan that contains ions and proteins. The two membranes differ in composition and function. With respect to composition, the inner or cytoplasmic membrane is composed of phospholipids, such as phosphatidylethanolamine, phospatidylglycerol and cardiolipin found in both the inner and outer leaflet. The outer membrane is highly asymmetric with its inner leaflet having the same phospholipid composition as the inner membrane and the outer leaflet consisting of lipopolysaccharides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for the bacteria to establish a successful attachment on the host surfaces, they need to have an adaptation ability towards external changes. Certain cellular regulators transmit signals from the exterior to the inner part of the cell via cytoplasmic secondary messenger systems or so called alomers. In bacteria this function is performed by the 3 ,5 cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) which is an ubiquitous molecule found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The cAMP targets its receptor, the cAMP receptor protein (CRP) and this CRP cAMP complex formed binds to the DNA in order to activate the expression of genes that code for enzymes responsible for the supply of energy of the cell, besides the cAMP is a derivative of ATP independent of glucose. It is studied that the CRP cAMP is a global regulator of gene expression of almost 200 operons in E.coli. Type 1 fimbriation is dependent on growth phase and it is found that CRP cAMP regulates type 1 fimbriae expression during the exponential growth phase. CRP and cAMP levels are influenced by environmental conditions mainly by glucose availability and osmolarity. These particular conditions affect also the DNA topology in E. coli. There are others global regulators, expect the CRP cAMP, found that affect the type 1 fimbriae expression such as the H NS, the RpoS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
