The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas
American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then
Mexican, governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian,
asked Spanish authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American
pioneers.
The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods
merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821,
the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the
Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating
problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land,
since only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of
Coahuila y Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the
Spanish empire since the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about
3,000 Spanish Mexican settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at
best. After winning its own independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of
Anglo American immigrants into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens
and keep the territory from falling into the hands of the United States. During the next decade men
like Stephen Austin brought more than 25,000 people to Texas,

Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem Essay
Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem
In Sylvia Plath s poem, Metaphors, she uses striking imagery to explore her ambivalent attitudes
about pregnancy. For example, she uses a negative metaphor saying she is an elephant, meaning she
thinks that she has become very fat since she got pregnant. On the other hand, she uses a positive
metaphor saying the baby is precious, meaning although pregnancy has its down sides it has got a
few good sides like the baby.
The number nine features a lot throughout the poem. For instance the title, Metaphors, has nine
letters in it; there are nine lines; there are nine syllables in each line; there are nine months of
pregnancy and there are nine letters in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the words strolling and tendrils give the reader an image of a woman, who s really obese,
who has small legs that you can hardly see, plus she can t walk properly because she is weighed
down by all her fat and they might collapse at any second.
In the first three lines the feeling is very negative, yet in line four the feeling becomes much more
positive because she starts talking about her baby. When the narrator says O red fruit she is saying
that the baby is really precious to her like a red fruit. Also, the narrator says the baby is like ivory
which is very precious and it s a light material. It is elephant s tusks as well; this is a very effective
image because she compares herself to an elephant so the baby is like her tusks. And fine timbers
is like the baby s structure because it is very fragile.
In the fifth line the mood changes yet again to negative because the narrator starts talking abut
herself more. When she says this loaf s big with its yeasty rising the reader gets an image of her
stomach growing bigger and bigger without stopping like yeast in a loaf of bread.
In line six the narrator says money s new minted in this fat purse , the start of the sentence, which
is a positive metaphor, she is saying that the baby is brand new, important and that it is precious
like money. In contrast, fat purse is a negative metaphor because

ESSAY QUESTION 1 OF 1
State vs. Fabio
Homicide
Homicide is the killing of one human being by another.
When Fabio shot Nicholas with a gun and he died, there was a killing of a human being by another.
Actual Causation
Defendant s acts must have been the actual cause of the victim s death, i.e., but for the Defendant s
actions the victim would not have died.
.
But for Fabio shooting Nicholas, Nicholas would not have been killed. Fabio is the actual cause of
Nicholas death.
Thus, Fabio is the actual cause of Nicholas death.
Proximate Causation
A Defendant s actions are the proximate cause of the victim s death if the result occurred as a
natural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, Fabio s actions were willful and wanton conduct.
Therefore, there was malice aforethought.
Fabio will be convicted of murder.
First Degree Murder
First degree murder is one committed with the specific intent to kill, plus premeditation and
deliberation.
Fabio drove to a gun shop and purchased a gun and ammunition. He then drove to Nicholas home
and made the conscious decision to shoot Nicholas with the gun killing him. Thus, Fabio had the
requisite specific intent to kill.
However, Fabio will argue that he was angry that Nicholas was having an affair with his wife.
When he went to Nicholas home and asked him about the affair, Nicholas denied that an affair was
going on. This denial of the affair escalated Fabio s anger to the point Fabio shooting Nicholas.
Thus, Fabio acted instinctively and did not have time to deliberate his act. Thus, Fabio will argue
that he had no time to contemplate and appreciate the consequences of his act.
However, it appears from the facts that Fabio purchased the gun with the intent to kill Nicholas.
Therefore, Fabio can be convicted of first degree murder.
Voluntary Manslaughter
Voluntary manslaughter is a killing of a human being without adequate provocation, with a loss of
mental equilibrium and insufficient time to cool off.
When Fabio saw

Social Equality In America
Less than one century ago, American women had yet to gain the right to vote, and African
Americans still faced heavy oppression through segregation laws and violence. As someone born
decades after women s suffrage and the abolition of segregation laws, an America in which every
citizen is not given equal opportunity based on gender or raceis difficult to fathom, but it is true that
our country has oppressed certain groups of people in the past. The United Stateshas progressed
immensely in terms of social equality since the government s formation in 1789, but not without the
resistance from courageous leaders such as Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks,

Thoreau made the point that no man should ever have to resign his conscience to the legislation.
Everyone was given a mind with which to reason and make decisions about morality, and those who
find themselves morally at odds with legislation should peacefully resist it instead of following it
complacently. Martin Luther King, Jr. highlights that the horrific acts of Adolf Hitler were legal ; it
was the power of people who refused to be content that eventually prevented him from passing
further oppressive legislation. For this very reason, Americans should hold their elected officials
accountable to uphold the Constitution and to pay mind to morals when implementing laws.
Recently, President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting citizens from seven Muslim
majority countries from entering the United States. Many American citizens disagreed with this
executive order, citing it as prejudiced and unconstitutional, and peaceful protests arose, prompting
a federal judge to suspend the travel restriction. Peaceful protests also took place in cities across the

Band Of Brothers Analysis
Band of Brothers
Band of Brothers, a 2001 mini series of the non fictional historical account of the US Army s
famous 101st Airborne Division, was set during World War II. This show details the combined
experiences of Major Richard Dick Winters and the men of Easy Company 506th Parachute Infantry
Regiment 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The series has a war genre
mostly, however there is drama and bits of comedy. These men who fought was known as the good
war were hardened men, who sacrificed so much, for sometimes too little.
The series also gets the original surviving members into talking about the war and showing their
emotions as they come out especially at certain parts that are too hard for them to tell. The ... Show

California Dreams
A Place, a People, a Dream: The Californian Dream Paradoxes The Californian Dream can be
regarded as one of the most paradoxical concept in history. The story and paradoxes written by
Rawls is strongly supported by the anonymous accounts in many scenarios. Although the
anonymous accounts limit itself to only the gold rush era, it still depicts some of the things
mentioned in the story written by Rawls. To the weather of California, the reality of the gold rush,
and the population growth of California, Both stories compliment each other as they both
accurately describe the lifestyle of California in the 1850 s and beyond. Growth as a situation
described in both stories, as both writers talked about California was one of the... Show more

These two situations strongly relate to each other, how people of all sorts of background come
to California in hopes of making a better life, but also many failed dreams once they see how
hard it is. Even though the two accounts and stories aren t on the same timeframe, they still
strongly support each other in different contexts. The paradox of the California Dream is very
evident in both stories, how getting rich through the gold rush was actually very hard due to the
physical work, or how the growth of population and economy of California seemed positive, was
also deemed negative. With these facts and examples through research and real accounts, the
Californian Dream could easily be regarded as an extremely paradoxical concept.

The Great Depression Provided A Political Opportunity For...
hitlerwas a complete asshole that killed loads of jews and thought it was fun to form the nazis
Under Hitler s leadership and racially motivated ideology, the Nazi regime was responsible for
the genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews hitler shot himself and his fam,ily as britain marched on
berlin After World War I, Hitler returned to Munich.[72] With no formal education or career
prospects t the time of Hitler s release from prison, politics in Germany had become less
combative and the economy had improved, limiting Hitler s opportunities for political agitation.
The Great Depression provided a political opportunity for Hitler. Germans were ambivalent to the
parliamentary republic, which faced strong challenges from right and left wing extremists. The
moderate political parties were increasingly unable to stem the tide of extremism, and the German
referendum of 1929 helped to elevate Nazi ideology.[120] The elections of September 1930
resulted in the break up of a grand coalition and its replacement with a minority cabinet. Its leader,
chancellor Heinrich BrГјning of the Centre Party, governed through emergency decrees from
President Paul von Hindenburg. Governance by decree would become the new norm and paved the
way for authoritarian forms of government.[121] The NSDAP rose from obscurity to win 18.3 per
cent of the vote and 107 parliamentary seats in the 1930 election, becoming the second largest party
in parliament.[122]

Thimble Jellyfish Research Paper
The thimble jellyfish, or Linuche unguiculata is well known for the rashes it causes swimmers
while in it s larval stage. Most of the current research being conducted that I found was about this
topic. When released in large numbers the jellyfish often get caught in swimwear and let out their
stinging cells, causing a great deal of discomfort and pain to those affected. The thimble jellyfishis
aptly named, since it s shaped much like a thimble. They are very small, approximately 13 20
mm in length and radially symmetrical while in their medusa stage. However, the polyp can be
7.5 times larger, reaching up to 150 mm tall. They are equipped with eight short tentacles and
eight sensory organs. The thimble jellyfish can reproduce sexually in their medusa form, but they
can also reproduce asexually as polyps to form colonies. Males and females gather in the Atlantic
and the Caribbean Sea in large groups, during the spring, to mate. The fertilization happens inside
the female, then the larvae form in the water, or attach to one of the medusa s tentacles. They then
settle on hard surfaces to form polyps. From this point they can either reproduce asexually to
create new polyps, or they can break off into free swimming medusa. This breeding and creating of
new jellyfish usually take place from spring to late summer.... Show more content on

It starts with fertilization beginning in the female, it then moves outside of the female into the
open water. After it s in the water it swims to a hard surface where it forms as a polyp. Then, the
polyp undergoes strobilation to form buds that eventually break off into small jellyfish, or it
asexually reproduces to form more polyps. After that it takes a few weeks for the small jellyfish
to form into adult medusae. This completes the life cycle. However, since the polyp can form a
colony of polyps instead of forming jellyfish, it s hard to determine exactly how long the life cycle

Catcher In The Ryethyllysine
Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and
mortality (Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking,
dyslipidaemia, inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting
that a shared mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway,
oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucoseaut oxidation or by
fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism,
the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions,
glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product
(fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications
that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al.,
1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either
by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This
close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term
glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of
these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to
suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and
hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a
hypothesis.
MECHANISM OF AGES
AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular
(matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross
linking intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and
(3) binding to their cell surface receptor rage to inducing multiple intracellular signalling cascade

Hospital-Associated Infection
Hand hygiene has been identified as one of the simplest, but the most significant measure to prevent
and control the spread of hospital acquired infections (WHO, 2009). Furthermore, it is also
considered a cheap measurement for infection control (Allegranzi et al., 2007). Hand hygiene
compliance among healthcare workers is underutilised and interventions to develop it are absent
sustainability in developing countries (Gould et al., 2008). In the mid 1880s, the Austrian physician
Ignaz P. Semmelweis was the first doctor who reported the critical role of the hands of the
healthcare providers in transmitting hospitalacquired infections (Allegranzi and Pittet, 2008).
Hospital acquired infections (HAI) remain a big challenge to the patient safety (WHO, 2009). It
affects hundreds of million individuals worldwide ever year (Allegranzi et al., 2007). Healthcare
associated infection is regarded as one of the main reasons for long staying longer in hospitals,
increasing the cost of the patient treatment, and causing higher morbidity and mortality rates

On July 29th, 2015, 8 year old Madyson Maddy Middleton was riding her scooter with her
intimates at 1030 River St In Santa Cruz, California. During her ride, 15 year old Adrian Jerry
Gonzalez lured Madyson to go to his apartment which was in the same complex as Madyson. In
the Apartment, Adrian raped Madyson then killed her and hid the corpse in the recycling bin of

accountable and should not be punished for the violent crimes of their juvenile son or daughter.
Everyone should be responsible for their own actions, right? Since the dawn of time, Civilizations
have held everybody culpable for their own actions. Also, Major religions have made it part of their
law that everyone is accountable for their own actions. From my experiences of different religions, I
found it interesting that Abrahamic religions share some common laws. I found that interesting
because they share the same root (Abraham pbuh). For Example, It is a belief shared among all
Abrahamic religions that everyone is accountable for their own sins as we can see in Q ran 51:21

Circumstance In Shakespeare s Othello
Often people react to circumstantial evidence when really the situation is not what it seems at the
time. Even in day to day life people react to circumstances and I bet that if you are skilled enough

circumstances.Othello often shows examples of people reacting to circumstance and in the end this
happens to be the flaw that causes some unfortunate events. Shakespeare, in Othello, shows

Nadsat In A Clockwork Orange
One of the first things that captures a reader s attention as they re reading Anthony Burgess novel,
A Clockwork Orange, is the argot, also known as nadsat in the novel, which presents the idea that
language can shape reader s thoughts. This is depicted by the language techniques such as
descriptive language and slang (nadsat). The nadsat, which the main character and narrator, Alex,
and his friends in violence, or droogs as they call themselves, speak throughout the novel shields
the readers of the gory and brutal violence that is really being done to people. The way the author
describes the attacks, or as Alex calls ultraviolence , using the artificial language works because
all of the time the readers are reading, they have to be think about what words such as yarbles

Today we live in an increasingly globalized world. In the United States alone over 60 million
people speak a language other than English when at home (Speaking in Tongues). While most
schools require at least two year of foreign language, this is not really enough to familiarize
yourself with a language. It would not only be in the students best interest to do this, but also the
schools as it increases academic achievement. It also improves your cognitive functions and
benefits society. All of these factors led me to this conclusion: everyone should take at least four

becoming the global language, Americans should not have to learn other languages. They are
operating under the following pretenses: there wouldn t possibly be anyone we would want to
communicate with that does not speak English already, other countries should teach their citizens a

only beneficially if it directly influences us gaining more opportunities. These biases are misguided.

the mistake is usually the one who is hurt, damaged and suffers the most. As if it s not enough
that this person harms their reputation but strangers who don t even know him or her and don t

Analysis of Animal Characters in Alice in Wonderland by...
Why are animal characters so popular in children s literature? Why do they tend to be either
fierce or friendly? How do animal characters impact children s literature? In Alice s Adventure in
Wonderland, the animal characters are very weird. They were supposed to guide Alice through
the traditional fairytale world she has created, but instead they were negative influences on this
child. I believe the audience expected that animal characters are supposed to because they are the
ones who should be a role model for kids to look up or when they read it. Do the animal characters

fairytales? The animals in Alice argue with her, confuse her, and tell... Show more content on

Since Alice saw him disappeared in the dark, it seemed that he was trying to drag her to go in
the dark well. This rabbit behavior is very weird because it grabbed Alice s attention and wanted
her to go after her. In our world, the rabbits never want to grab our attention or want us to know
where they are. From Del Toro s Pan Labyrinth, it is connected to Ofelia when she saw the fairy
tales in the wood. I am applying Fairytales as rabbit. When the rabbit hopped away and
disappeared in hole, Alice was upset because she thought that it was supposed to guide her to the
world that she has created just like Ofelia. In my personal experience as a kid, every time I see a
rabbit or squirrel, I used to go after them. All the times, they went in the hole or in the wood. I
was upset that I couldn t go after them anymore just like Alice and Ofelia. Alice s head struck
against the roof of the hall and she was more than nine feet high. She sat down and began to cry.
Alice felt very desperate that she was ready to ask anyone for help. According to Carroll 1865, p.
8, when the White Rabbit came near her, she began in a low, timid voice, If you please, Sir The
White Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves and the fan, and scurried away into
the darkness as fast as he could go. In my opinion, Lewis Carroll disobeyed the audience by using
rabbit as animal character. He didn t do what the audience would expect.

Consequences of Recent Changes to Canada s Temporary Foreign Workers Policy The pace of
immigration in the contemporary scenario has increased significantly. Historically, movement of
people from rural areas to cities and under privileged nations to rich, affluent countries was a normal
phenomenon. As increasing poverty and unemployment in the modern world have forced many
poor workers in under privileged and developing countries to search opportunities elsewhere, the
demand in the developed countries like Canada have increased, especially for low wage, low skilled,
temporary workers. In Canada, the reluctance of many Canadians to accept low wage, low skilled,

People migrate in search of better economic prospects and opportunities. Many move to enjoy a
better lifestyle and improve standard of living. A segment migrates from the home country to find
a secure place where they can spend lives peacefully. Recently, the increasing pace of
globalization has prompted migrant workers to move from one country to another. Canada is a
preferred country for immigrants from developing and poor nations. Since founding of the country,
Canada has always allowed rather encouraged migration with the dual objective of expanding
country s population and to ensure an expanding and vibrant economy. Most of the Canadian
governments in the past have pursued polices to accomplish these objectives (Kelley Trebilcock

experience in specific occupations where the country faces shortages, and the ability to speak

The Global Financial System Is A Web Of Connections
Srdan Vujnovic
Short Paper Assignment II: LIBOR
The global financial system is a web of connections. It does not matter what country, ethnicity or
religion a person is. It does not matter if you are a democrat, republican, communist, socialist or
anarchist. We all share this common bond money. The following analysis will explain what LIBOR
is, how manipulating LIBOR can have negative effects on the global economy, and what steps the
global financial industry can take to ensure that a similar scandal never occurs again.
I.
Analysis of LIBOR and its manipulation
What the major global banks decide to do can ultimately affect a farmer living in the
Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands of miles away from the people that directly or
indirectly affected his life. One of those ways that people across the globe are connected are
through different financial rates, one of those rates being LIBOR. LIBOR stands for London
Inter Bank Offered Rate. It is one of many benchmarks that banking institutions use to set interest
rates for lending between banks (Romano Peluso). LIBOR is an interest rate that banks charge each
other for overnight, one month, three month, six month and one year loans. It is published in five
currencies which include the Swiss franc, the euro, the pound sterling, the
Japanese yen and of course the dollar (Kimberly Amadeo). While most LIBOR based contracts are
linked to the 3 month rate, the majority of the lending happens overnight. Most banks have a

THE TEMOLE OF ARTEMIS AT EPHESUS VS TAJ MAHAL
The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus vs the Taj Mahal
Two significant historical structures are compared in this essay which are The Temple of Artemis at
Ephesus and the Taj Mahal. These two architectural installations were created in different time
periods and in different civilizations. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and the Taj Mahal both
may have some similarities and several differences.
The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was constructed by Greek architectures in the mid 6th century
BCE at Ephesus. ( The temple of Artemis, 2012) This ancient Greek city was also known as the
City of the Mother Goddess which explains the reason why Greeks decided to construct The
Temple of Artemis there. (Mark, Cartwright, Violatti, 2009) This Temple is known as one of the
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Temple of Artemis was built in honor of the goddess of
the chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment, Artemis. She was daughter
of Zeus, as soon as Artemis was born, she helped her mother give birth to her twin brother, thereby
becoming the protector of childbirth and labor. She asked her father to grant her eternal chastity
and virginity, and never gave in to any potential lovers; devoted to hunting and nature, she rejected
marriage and love. ( Artemis pictures, 1997) The ancient Greek Temple was built by a Crete

The Cambridge Dictionary of Sociology defines inequality as the unequal distribution of

goes on to say that the subfield of social stratification has as its main task the description and
analysis of inequalities, or the makeup of the stratification system of any given society .(1) From
this one definition, we can already begin to see the strong links that lie between inequalities and

In the Central African Republic, the infant mortality rate is 107 per 1,000(6). That means that an
infant born in Norway has a 10 per cent higher chance of survival than an infant born in the
Central African Republic. Even in the first few days after birth, inequalities exist between the
lives of infants born in developed countries and the lives of infants born in underdeveloped
countries. Furthermore, the life expectancy at birth of a child born in Norway is 81.1 (5) years,
whereas in the Central African Republic, the life expectancy at birth is 48.4 years (5). Again,
inequalities exist between the infants born in developed countries and the infants born in
developed countries. Although the Central African Republic has a high rate of infant mortality
as well as a high death rate 17.6 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010(7), it also has a very high birth
rate 35.6 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010 (8). This has lead to a very high population, which puts a
huge strain on the resources of the country. Norway on the other hand, has a much steadier
population, with a low birth rate 12.6 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010 (8) but also a low death
rate 8.8 per 1,000 in the years 2005 2010 (7). The population is controlled and their are enough
resources to serve the entire population. It is for this reason that Norwegians generally receive an

The Ethical Issues Of Business
Introduction: In this essay, I will discuss three sections of business among many which hold
ethical issues. Those sections are advertising, product liability, and leadership ethics. Within the
three sections, I will identify and briefly discuss three specific ethical issues. I will then choose
one ethical issue and go into the detail about how ABC Widgets Inc. will implement a policy on
how to avoid the ethical issue. Advertising: Advertising has many ethical issues; however, I will
focus on integrity, bribery, and manipulation. Integrity is a question of motives. It questions the
purpose behind what is being advertised and the character of the company/person who is
supporting it. You need your audience s trust if you want them to buy your products; there has to
be a relationship. However, it is not integrity alone but integrity intertwined with persuasion and
character. An example of this is the famous Jack Bennett case of 1997. Jack pulled in many
individuals as well as businesses with his persuasion and enticed them to join the cause to help
others. However, his audience misjudged his character. Jack Bennett s company, New Era
Philanthropy, promised to match donations with money from anonymous donors when he simply
did not have anonymous donors. He did this to help charities yet he lied to his faithful and
inspired customers. Lack of integrity is a big issue in advertising. Winston Churchill used the skill
of woo, which is to win others over. This skill is the same

Fire Escape Code Summary
Fire Escape Codes Summary The paper I am doing an overview on is Fire Escape Codes In
Historic Buildings by Jeff T. Johnson. Johnson focuses on a town in Rhode Island called
Pawtucket. In 1793, America s first textile mill was built, but decades later there were 100 other
mills constructed. By the 1940 s, most of these mills were abandoned and out of shape until
Rhode Island passed it s Historic Preservation Tac Credit. The reason for this shift in the 1940 s
was because after World War II, textile mills moved south for cheaper labor. This then turned these
old mills into residential homes relying on adequate fire escapes. Then Johnson brings up Richard
Moe who is the President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He brings up... Show more

After events such as Chicago Fire 1871, San Francisco Earthquake and fire of 1906, and the
Triangle Shirtwaist fire of 1911 which had many deaths at each one, there was a change in codes
that became more rigorous in preventing deaths and injuries in fire emergencies. Then Johnson
states that John H. Lienhard the University of Houston s College of Engineering says that mid
nineteenth century buildings were not originally built for fire safety. It wasn t until after tragic
events happened that led to fire escape, fire escapes and fire safety in general. Then in 1968,
New York banned all exterior fire escapes for new building projects because interior stairwells
were considered safer. Then Johnson brings up Vincent J. Dunn who is a retired deputy chief with
New York s fire department. Dunn notes that there are only 200,000 fire escapes that remain in the
city. Because of age and poor maintence, fire escapes susceptible to rust, corrosion and collapse.
Even with fire escapes being banned or no longer mandated in new construction, they still exist as

Effectiveness of the Australian s Criminal Trial Process...
Evaluate the effectiveness of the criminal trial process in achieving justice
Justice is the concept of moral rightness that is based on equality, access and fairness. This means
that the law is applied equally, understood by all people and does not have a particularly harsh
effect on an individual. In Australia, the adversary system is used as a means to achieve justice by
proving the accused, beyond reasonable doubt, committed the crime. The criminal trial process has
many features which aim to fulfill the requirements of achieving justice. These elements, though

Contamination can occur when transferring DNA or the collection of DNA evidence. In the case
involving Mr. Farah, he was wrongful charged of rape although he had appealed in the High
Court with the basis of the scientists not having said he was undisputedly the perpetrator. The
scientists said that it was a very small chance that it was not Mr. Farah which he argued was still a
reasonable doubt. The judges dismissed the case within twenty minutes but it was later found that
the evidence was contaminated. Other examples include R v. Rendell (1999) and R v. Carroll
(2002.)Though technology is advancing, the process of collecting, processing and analyzing DNA
has faults. There needs to be more training, procedures and checks put in place for the system to be
effective. Faults in evidence presents to be ineffective justice as although the jury weighed up the
evidence, there was inadequate access to allow him to refute the claims and lead to wrongful
convictions.
Miscarriage of justice is not just framed around contaminated evidence but also by the fact that
juries misinterpret information and instructions which result in an incorrect verdict. Voting for the
verdict previously had to be unanimous until 2006, when the Juries (Amendment) Act 2006

and eliminates a rogue juror, there has been much criticism as the point of the trial to prove

Price Competition In T-Mobile, AT T, Sprint, And Verizon
The industry I ve selected is the cellular phone service industry. This industry s market structure
is an oligopoly, meaning that a few large firms control the market. Four main firms, T Mobile, AT
T, Sprint, and Verizon dominate the cell phone service industry. Although the four firms compete
against one another, they typically avoid price competition in order to avoid price wars that
decrease profits for all. Instead, they use other tactics, such as advertising and improved customer
service to gain a higher demand in the market. Price wars occur due to the interdependence of
firms involved in an oligopolistic market structure. A decision made by one firm to increase or

Public Perception Of The Social Contract Theory
The sway of public perception in the negative direction can be detrimental to one s political
campaign. That s why blasting spam mail that can alter the results of an election is something of
questionable moral standards. A few pieces of information were omitted that could have helped
form a more complete answer: which political party is being hurt? What is in the email? How
detrimental was the content to the injured candidate? Knowing that I am politically biased, I know
I would agree with the decision if I supported one candidate and it led to him or her winning;
however, I will look into the issue ignoring this idea. Upon reflection, I decided that virtueethicsis
the best theory to use in regards to politics. In most instances, I subscribe to the Social Contract
theory. I personally believe that the people who are making the rules with which they have to
comply are inherently going to leave loopholes and other tricks that they can use to their
advantage. I also think elections are a different animal than using technology for a Nigerian
prince scam or selling a phone that explodes when you charge it. For instances such as these, the
law is both fair and just. Conversely, I do not approve of the vast majority of laws when they relate
to how to conduct oneself while running a political campaign. Making the rules of your own game
tends to lead to unfair practices. The first thing I considered in this dilemma were the alternate ways

Service autonomy is the term used to describe a service which is sel sufficient in terms of
managing all the necessary logic, resources and environment and which is independent of external

пѓ Business Driven Infrastructure on demand
Using service orientation for the infrastructure provides a way to define dependencies of higher
level business services on the lower level infrastructure services, dow to the actual physical
resources, such as network appliances, storage, and servers.
пѓ Service Management
Service orientation defines service level objectives as well as the measurement of the delivery of
those objectives.
CONCLUSION: Service Oriented Architectures are rapidly being accepted by the IT world as a
sound, modularized approach for building and deploying services across the extended enterprise.
Practical extension of these architectures requires careful planning. The SOA is mainly
implemented with web services. In this paper I have tried to explain the so many things about

Hitler s Appointment
Adolf Hitler s appointment as Chancellor of Germany in 1933 played a vital role in the beginning
of World War II. It was caused by a number of long term causes such as the Treaty of Versailles,
strategic political activities and the Great Depression. Consequences also occurred as a result of his

The Nazis began to spread their racial ideologies very soon after Hitler was appointed chancellor

unfairly blamed for the country s economic depression and defeat in World War One. Following
Hitler s appointment as chancellor, laws were passed that declared Jews second class citizens,
segregating them from those of German descent and forcing them out of their jobs. The Nazis
either seized Jewish businesses or forced them to be sold at exceptionally low prices. Between

Fredrick Argument
Fredrick, I enjoyed reading your discussion post and found it to be very well thought out. Right
off the bat your argument resonated with me. Your statement of when you know better, you do
better was pivotal. After learning about the name of Washington s NFL team, I talked with my
son whom is nine years old about his Redskin s blanket, which I purchased for him because he
likes the team. Nevertheless, I will be the first to admit that I am embarrassed by my stupidity and
for the part I played in supporting racial slur. Needless to say the choice was made not keep the
blanket or any other sport related caricature that trivialize raceof people. Also it appears that your
discussion covered some of the material presented in the video

The Importance Of Government Surveillance In Our Society
Our society is dystopian in that we are being watched by the government. The governments
surveillance ranges from cameras to electronics to even emails. We are told that this constant
surveillance is for our safety and to make it a safe environment for us because their main reason is
to protect us when in fact it may not be their true intentions. Surveillancehas been a problem in our
society because people think that there s too much cameras which it s not necessary. People feel
like they are constantly being watched. This increase in surveillance makes us question if the
government is collecting of information for their own good.
According to Detroit News, on the 23rd of March a 23 year old man named Rudy Carcamo
Carranza was arrested because he was involved in a drunken driving allegations and a hit and run
crash and was also a twice deported worker from El Salvador. Federal investigators used a a device
called Stingray which is designed for counter terrorism but is used hunt undocumented immigrants.
Based on Aclu, Stingrays, also known as cell site simulators or IMSI catchers are invasive cell
phone surveillance devices that mimic cell phone towers and send out signals to trick cell phones in

at any moment our cellphones can not only be used for law enforcement agencies to track down
undocumented people but also allows the government to have access to our locations

Essay on Models of Corrections
The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new
approaches, disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear
59). During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America.
Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of
offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to
incarceration. As times and the needs of the criminal justice system changed, new prison models
were organized in hopesof lowering the crime ratesin America. The three major models of prisons
that were developed were the medical, model, the community model, and the crime... Show more

Some people may not have a psychological disorder that put them in prison and others may never
recover from their illness. This program is a good idea if combined with other forms of punishment
as well.
The next big idea in the system of corrections was the idea of the community model. This model
was created during the 1960s after movements such as the Civil Rights Movement, the war on
poverty, and the resistance to the Vietnam war showed that social and political values have a major
impact on the criminal justice system. The community model of corrections was based on the
assumption that the criminal justice system should aim at reintegrating the offender into the
community(Clear 56). This model of corrections focused on alternatives to incarceration such as
probation or parole. Officials felt that prisons were to be avoided because they were artificial
institutions that interfered with the offender s ability to develop a crime free lifestyle(Clear 56).
Many thought that incarceration was a negative influence on criminals because it took away the
skills needed to successfully become a part of society once released. Under this program, an
offender would work with a counselor to find a job, and money so that they were not left to the
streets. When their sentence was up, they may be put in a half way house for monitoring how well
they were adapting to society. This system failed during the 1970s when

The Jewish Community Of Today
The Jewish community of today believe that the Pharisees of Jesus time have transformed into a
group called rabbinic Judaism after the destruction of the temple in 70 C.E. They are believed to
be the Rabbi s of today, and are living proof, that they all were not against Jesus.
Today, all major branches of Judaismclaim at least some affinity with rabbinic Judaism of
centuries gone by, and perceive Judaism as issuing not simply from the Hebrew Bible but also
from the interpretation of those Scriptures by the Pharisees and their successors, the rabbis (Cook,
M. J. p. 441).
With this in mind, it is believed that we can get a better understanding of the Pharisees and Scribes
of when Jesus walked the earth. By using the Gospels and the rabbinic writings one could get a
clear picture of this group according to Dr. Cook. There is one account in the Gospel of John were
one Pharisee questions Jesus and is trying to understand who Jesus is and what message is he
bringing them.
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to
Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one
can do these signs that you do unless God is with him (John 3:1 2).
Nicodemus mentions that he is not the only one, and must mean that other Pharisees and Scribes
did believe that Jesus was from God. They most likely thought Him to be a prophet and not the
Messiah because he did not come and rescue them from their captures.

News Media Bias Essay
News media has a largely, overwhelming influence on Americans in this day and age. Over the
years, audiences have been exposed to various types of broadcast journalism, each with their own
forms of bias to generate attention towards various topics. The audience perceive bias in news
media program. An in depth analysis of bias on opinionated news compared to non opinionated
news is key to figuring out how the news mediamay be sensationalizing a problem. The apparent
goal of some American news media particularly cable news shows and talk radio is to stimulate a
problem.
According to one news source, What works in cable television news is not an objective analysis
of the day s events but hard nosed, unstinting advocacy of a specific point of view on a sizzling
hot topic . Although individuals may turn on the television to get information on current events
and issues, they are likely to get the station s detailed, bias, perspective on it instead. One
instance where this has occurred is on the Bill O Reilly Show, which airs on fox. It is claimed
that 97% of the stories mentioned on the show are a result of O Reilly s own opinions and beliefs.

source of news, compared to others such as newspapers and radio. This was highly evident
between the 2000 and 2004 U.S. presidential campaigns, where the percentage of people reported
watching broadcast news dropped from 45 to 35%, whereas the percentage of people who watched
cable news increased from 34 to 38%

Vatican Cremation Research Paper
Ashes of cremated individuals should not be scattered, kept at home, or turned into jewelry as these
could constitute grounds for being denied a Christian funeral, according to a new Vatican ruling.
Although the Vatican prefers burial over cremationfor Catholics, a new decree authorized by Pope
Francis said the ashes of the cremated body should be stored either in a church or a cemetery. The
ruling also suggested that those who insist on scattering the ashes of their departed loved ones
should be denied a Christian funeral, The Times reports.
Since the 1970s, the number of cremations after death in the UK has more than doubled to 400,000
every year. There is also an increasingly popular trend of converting ashes into gemstones or turning

It noted the increase of the burial practices all over the world which run in contrast against the
church s faith.
The ashes of the faithful must be laid to rest in a sacred place, that is in a cemetery or, in certain
cases, in a church or an area which has been set aside for this purpose, the Vatican said in its ruling.
In addition, the Vatican ruled against storing the ashes of the departed at home, dividing them
among family members, and other rituals that are not linked the Catholic faith. This includes
scattering of the ashes and preserving them in mementos and other forms.
Earlier this year, DesiringGod.org founder Pastor John Piper wrote a blog entry explaining why
Christians should bury instead of cremate their dead. However, he clarified that he aims to
persuade believers to lean toward burial as a preference rather than a command, The Christian Post
relays.
Citing Philippians 1:20, Piper said Christians should glorify God through their body both in life
and death and that the body should be treated as God s dwelling place. However, he cautioned
against condemning or ostracizing those who still choose to cremate the remains of their loved
ones instead of burying

Bruce Springsteen Setting
Designing a cover for the Bruce Springsteen book Born To Run began by researching the book.
Firstly, I listened to the audio book and notated common themes and critical milestones in the life
of the author. From there, I located images, fonts and historical information on the author from
the internet. Sketches were mocked up based on the data that I collected, and I included various
themes as I progressed from one sketch to the next. The thought process for each of the eight
sketches is as follows: The first sketch covers Bruce Springsteen s rock and roll lifestyle. An
image of one of his favorite guitars is pictured and is instantly recognizable to his core fans. The
second sketch features an illustration based on a photograph I found on the internet of Bruce
Springsteen; the photograph is from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea fell a little flat for me, the wheels and sunglass lenses just didn t add up very well. The
eighth sketch I liked the earlier ideas of using mirrors and sunglasses to provide depth of the
character, this time one lens features Bruce Springsteen s family and the other a motorcycle. I
have Bruce positioned on the boardwalk in New Jersey, with the New Jersey skyline in the
background. This is the idea that I selected to move forward with. The eighth sketch was further
developed into a larger drawing with more detail, and the font style of (Franklin) Gothic was
employed. This font is found on the actual Born To Run book, its clean and easy to read and
works well with the subject and design. I scanned the hand drawn artwork into a jpg file and placed
it in an Indesign file. The book title and author s name were added, as was a barcode. Once
complete, a PDF proof was created from the Indesign file. Lastly, all of the files employed during
this creative process were gathered together and placed into a zip

Time John Mctaggart
John McTaggart in his essay Time presents a radical argument that claims time is unreal. While the
argument is interesting and has attracted much attention for his arguments, I remain unconvinced of
the argument he makes. This paper will lay out McTaggart s argument that time in unreal, critically
analyze why I believe McTaggart s argument fails and presentan alternative idea about time,
utilizing aspects of McTaggart s argument. Here is an explanation of McTaggart s view. McTaggart
wants ultimately to prove that time does not exist. He attempts to do this by arguing time s
existence is contingent on the existence of transient time and that ultimately transient time fails.
Transient time involves A series. A series are attributed

In the argument he makes the claim that every event is past present and future. Therefore, events
can only exhibit pastness, presentness or futurity and events can exhibit pastness, presentness
and futurity, and this is contradictory, so one of these ideas must be false. If it is contradictory,
then it is false and events cannot exhibit pastness, presentness or futurity, which infers that there
exists no A series, which follows that that time does not exist. I see the validity of parts of
McTaggart s claim. However, for the most part I find the argument convoluted and difficult to
follow. He claims that an event cannot be past, present and future, I can agree with this notion of
the argument. However, an event can exhibit the qualities of past, present and future at different
times, i.e. your birth. All this argument does for me is solidify the idea that since an event can be
in the future, later present and eventually in the past proves that events change. This idea follows
A series and in looking back at his first claim, which infers time s existence is reliant on the
existence of A series (transient time,) it would prove to me that time does in fact exist. I get a
little lost in where he makes the jump to disprove A series, thereby proving time to be unreal; the
negation of A series appears muddled. The other problem I find is in the first half of his argument.
The idea that time s

Basic Forms Of Business Organization
Three basic forms of business organization are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.
Sole proprietorship is the simplest form of business organization in which there is only one
owner (Cheeseman, 2015, p. 570). Single person is responsible for all debts, liabilities, and
obligations, as well as unlimited liability for business operations. If the owner is unsuccessful
and acquires debt, creditors can pursue legal action and acquire access to personal bank
accounts, real estate, and other assets by the court order to repay person s debt obligations.
Owners of sole proprietorships cannot raise capital by selling shares that represent stakeholder
interest in the business. The owner reports all income and expenses in personal tax return. The
business terminates upon withdrawal or an owner s death. The owner can sell the business and
by doing so, will lose the ownership. Advantages of sole proprietorship include freedom of
decisions, tax breaks, ease to start, ownership of all profits, being taxed once as a personal
income of the owner, and lack of government compliance. Disadvantages of sole proprietorship
include unlimited liability, very limited sources of production, and difficulty to raise capital.
According to Cheeseman (2015), general partnership is an association of two or more persons to
carry on as co owners of a business for profit (p. 572). The rights and duties of partners are
established in the partnership agreement and by law such as Uniform

Immigration Historiography
Immigration has been a central theme in the development of the United States. The influx of
foreigners into the country has been met with acceptance and restrictive policy since its formation.
The reaction to diverse immigration created exclusionary policies first introduced in the late
nineteenth century and held in place by national origins quotas until 1965. The purpose of this
historiography is to show how recent scholarship on immigrationhas developed and changed in the
last fifteen years. This historiography is divided into three types of studies. The first is focused on
how historians have extricated the individual from the broad historiography to give voice to
specific ethnic groups as they negotiated for a place in the country.... Show more content on

The first type of study regards specific groups targeted by restrictive immigration policy. Various
ethnic groups exhibited agency as they combated discrimination. The works of Mae M. Ngai,
Estelle T. Lau, and John S.W. Park are used to support this initial position. Although these works
focus on policy formation they also show immigrant responses to racially specific federal policy.
Resistance and adaptability are themes that connect these works as immigrants negotiated a place
for themselves in the United States. The second grouping of studies will develop imposition theory
to interpret social and political responses to immigration over time. Policy imposed upon a targeted
group is at the core of this theory as the state mandated stringent requirements for entrance into the
country and placed rigorous standards on resident aliens once here. John Higham, Desmond King,
and Martha Gardner assess this plight. These works elaborated on imposition theory, as immigrants
became Americans and struggled against acculturation and preservation of their culture. The last
grouping of studies evaluates the development of a broad immigration policy. Keith Fitzgerald,
Cheryl Shanks, and Roger Daniels studies span over a century of immigration policy. Evaluating
these broad interpretations on immigration

Social Change And Public Policy
The study of sociology is an idea interpreted as social change and public policy. This social
change is heavily influenced in Laredo, Texas because of the demanding change in urban
society. Additionally, this change is operated by Laredo citizen s concerned with the system of
charter and public schools on how classical music has disappeared as a necessity of the learning
structure for students. Not only has classical music been completely erased from the school
system, it has caused student s grades to suffer and also to do poorly on standardized tests such
as state tests or college level entry exams. Classical music is a necessity for all life and by taking
away one of the educational system s best fields of learning, it creates a difficult social issue to
handle, especially for students. Although society is always on the verge of implementing the idea
of social change, taking away a necessity is not going to create a pathway to success. By applying
classical music to everyday life as a student, it helps stimulate daily activity in the brain, helps
relate music to certain issues, and create a compassionate sense for music. Particularly in Laredo,
classical music has seen as a downfall inside and outside of the educational settings. The pathway
the city is going through, is great, a lot of change has occurred in the urban and rural areas of town,

The Philosophy Of Aristotle s Philosophy
Within each of our existences, we as social creatures desire friendship/social interaction which
comforts us on the confusing journey we call life. I believe that through my interpretation of
Aristotle s philosophy, that we all have friends when seeing the world through Aristotle s
philosophy. Aristotle describes friendshipas being made up of mutual feelings of good intentions
between two individuals. According to him, there are 3 different types of friendships that make
up the base of social interactions. The first out of 3 types of friendships that he talks about is
Utility based friendships. These types of friendships are based on the benefits/trading that the
two individuals can gain from each other. These are most often formed by individuals with
opposite personalities. The decision making process involved in forming these types of
relationships are based on long term benefit, or time to benefit ratio. This type of relationship is
characterized as shallow, weak, and easily dissolved. The most problems occur in this type of
relationship due to the deviation in valuing one another s service. For example, Billy and Bob
are friends/roommates, Billy made a painting as a gift for Bob in exchange for paying his half of
the rent, Bob believes that while being appreciative of the painting, that it is worth less than the
price of the rent he couldn t pay and insists that Bob either starts pulling his own weight or hits the
road to find additional income and a different

Importance Of Primary And Secondary Socialisation
Unit 4 Learning aim A What is primary and secondary socialisation? In the midst of basic
socialisation, youths take in different crucial things that they ought to function as they create.
These lessons are discovered not simply by direct instructing, like how to scrutinise and make,
moreover roundabout by viewing friends and family. Children can get practices, traditions and

Discretionary socialisation can be all the more difficult to recognise or encounter. Exactly when
youths are in fundamental stages, they are recognised really whether they get things right or not.

  • 2. The Mexican State Of Coahuila Y Tejas American settlement in Texas began with the encouragement of first the Spanish, and then Mexican, governments. In the summer of 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish authorities for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers. The request by Austin seemed preposterous. His background was that of a Philadelphia dry goods merchant, a Virginia mine operator, a Louisiana judge, and a Missouri banker. But early in 1821, the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain welcomed the Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were creating problems in east Texas even before the grant was made to Austin, and to help develop the land, since only 3,500 native Mexicans had settled in Texas which was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. Texas or Tejas as the Mexicans called it had technically been a part of the Spanish empire since the 17th century. However, even as late as the 1820s, there were only about 3,000 Spanish Mexican settlers in Texas, and Mexico City s hold on the territory was tenuous at best. After winning its own independence from Spain in 1821, Mexico welcomed large numbers of Anglo American immigrants into Texas in the hopes they would become loyal Mexican citizens and keep the territory from falling into the hands of the United States. During the next decade men like Stephen Austin brought more than 25,000 people to Texas, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem Essay Metaphors Analysis in Sylvia Plath s Poem In Sylvia Plath s poem, Metaphors, she uses striking imagery to explore her ambivalent attitudes about pregnancy. For example, she uses a negative metaphor saying she is an elephant, meaning she thinks that she has become very fat since she got pregnant. On the other hand, she uses a positive metaphor saying the baby is precious, meaning although pregnancy has its down sides it has got a few good sides like the baby. The number nine features a lot throughout the poem. For instance the title, Metaphors, has nine letters in it; there are nine lines; there are nine syllables in each line; there are nine months of pregnancy and there are nine letters in ... Also, the words strolling and tendrils give the reader an image of a woman, who s really obese, who has small legs that you can hardly see, plus she can t walk properly because she is weighed down by all her fat and they might collapse at any second. In the first three lines the feeling is very negative, yet in line four the feeling becomes much more positive because she starts talking about her baby. When the narrator says O red fruit she is saying that the baby is really precious to her like a red fruit. Also, the narrator says the baby is like ivory which is very precious and it s a light material. It is elephant s tusks as well; this is a very effective image because she compares herself to an elephant so the baby is like her tusks. And fine timbers is like the baby s structure because it is very fragile. In the fifth line the mood changes yet again to negative because the narrator starts talking abut herself more. When she says this loaf s big with its yeasty rising the reader gets an image of her stomach growing bigger and bigger without stopping like yeast in a loaf of bread. In line six the narrator says money s new minted in this fat purse , the start of the sentence, which is a positive metaphor, she is saying that the baby is brand new, important and that it is precious like money. In contrast, fat purse is a negative metaphor because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When he went to Nicholas home and asked him about the affair, Nicholas denied that an affair was going on. This denial of the affair escalated Fabio s anger to the point Fabio shooting Nicholas. Thus, Fabio acted instinctively and did not have time to deliberate his act. Thus, Fabio will argue that he had no time to contemplate and appreciate the consequences of his act. Social Equality In America Less than one century ago, American women had yet to gain the right to vote, and African Americans still faced heavy oppression through segregation laws and violence. As someone born decades after women s suffrage and the abolition of segregation laws, an America in which every citizen is not given equal opportunity based on gender or raceis difficult to fathom, but it is true that our country has oppressed certain groups of people in the past. The United Stateshas progressed immensely in terms of social equality since the government s formation in 1789, but not without the resistance from courageous leaders such as Susan B. Thoreau made the point that no man should ever have to resign his conscience to the legislation. Everyone was given a mind with which to reason and make decisions about morality, and those who find themselves morally at odds with legislation should peacefully resist it instead of following it complacently. Martin Luther King, Jr. highlights that the horrific acts of Adolf Hitler were legal ; it was the power of people who refused to be content that eventually prevented him from passing further oppressive legislation. For this very reason, Americans should hold their elected officials accountable to uphold the Constitution and to pay mind to morals when implementing laws. Recently, President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting citizens from seven Muslim majority countries from entering the United States. Many American citizens disagreed with this executive order, citing it as prejudiced and unconstitutional, and peaceful protests arose, prompting a federal judge to suspend the travel restriction. The story and paradoxes written by Rawls is strongly supported by the anonymous accounts in many scenarios. Although the anonymous accounts limit itself to only the gold rush era, it still depicts some of the things mentioned in the story written by Rawls. To the weather of California, the reality of the gold rush, and the population growth of California, Both stories compliment each other as they both accurately describe the lifestyle of California in the 1850 s and beyond. The paradox of the California Dream is very evident in both stories, how getting rich through the gold rush was actually very hard due to the physical work, or how the growth of population and economy of California seemed positive, was also deemed negative. The Great Depression provided a political opportunity for Hitler. Germans were ambivalent to the parliamentary republic, which faced strong challenges from right and left wing extremists. The moderate political parties were increasingly unable to stem the tide of extremism, and the German referendum of 1929 helped to elevate Nazi ideology.[120] The elections of September 1930 resulted in the break up of a grand coalition and its replacement with a minority cabinet. Its leader, chancellor Heinrich BrГјning of the Centre Party, governed through emergency decrees from President Paul von Hindenburg. Governance by decree would become the new norm and paved the way for authoritarian forms of government.[121] The NSDAP rose from obscurity to win 18.3 per cent of the vote and 107 parliamentary seats in the 1930 election, becoming the second largest party in parliament.[122] Hitler and NSDAP treasurer Franz Xaver ... • 10. Thimble Jellyfish Research Paper The thimble jellyfish, or Linuche unguiculata is well known for the rashes it causes swimmers while in it s larval stage. Most of the current research being conducted that I found was about this topic. When released in large numbers the jellyfish often get caught in swimwear and let out their stinging cells, causing a great deal of discomfort and pain to those affected. The thimble jellyfishis aptly named, since it s shaped much like a thimble. They are very small, approximately 13 20 mm in length and radially symmetrical while in their medusa stage. However, the polyp can be 7.5 times larger, reaching up to 150 mm tall. They are equipped with eight short tentacles and eight sensory organs. The thimble jellyfish can reproduce sexually in their medusa form, but they can also reproduce asexually as polyps to form colonies. Males and females gather in the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea in large groups, during the spring, to mate. The fertilization happens inside the female, then the larvae form in the water, or attach to one of the medusa s tentacles. They then settle on hard surfaces to form polyps. From this point they can either reproduce asexually to create new polyps, or they can break off into free swimming medusa. This breeding and creating of new jellyfish usually take place from spring to late summer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It starts with fertilization beginning in the female, it then moves outside of the female into the open water. After it s in the water it swims to a hard surface where it forms as a polyp. Then, the polyp undergoes strobilation to form buds that eventually break off into small jellyfish, or it asexually reproduces to form more polyps. After that it takes a few weeks for the small jellyfish to form into adult medusae. This completes the life cycle. However, since the polyp can form a colony of polyps instead of forming jellyfish, it s hard to determine exactly how long the life cycle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Catcher In The Ryethyllysine Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and mortality (Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking, dyslipidaemia, inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting that a shared mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucoseaut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product (fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis. MECHANISM OF AGES AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular (matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross linking intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and (3) binding to their cell surface receptor rage to inducing multiple intracellular signalling cascade (Neeper et ... Hospital-Associated Infection Hand hygiene has been identified as one of the simplest, but the most significant measure to prevent and control the spread of hospital acquired infections (WHO, 2009). Furthermore, it is also considered a cheap measurement for infection control (Allegranzi et al., 2007). Hand hygiene compliance among healthcare workers is underutilised and interventions to develop it are absent sustainability in developing countries (Gould et al., 2008). In the mid 1880s, the Austrian physician Ignaz P. Hospital acquired infections (HAI) remain a big challenge to the patient safety (WHO, 2009). It affects hundreds of million individuals worldwide ever year (Allegranzi et al., 2007). During her ride, 15 year old Adrian Jerry Gonzalez lured Madyson to go to his apartment which was in the same complex as Madyson. In the Apartment, Adrian raped Madyson then killed her and hid the corpse in the recycling bin of the complex. So who should be penalized for the tragic murder of Madyson? Should Adrian be punished? Should Adrian s parents be punished? I believe That the parents should not be accountable and should not be punished for the violent crimes of their juvenile son or daughter. Everyone should be responsible for their own actions, right? Since the dawn of time, Civilizations have held everybody culpable for their own actions. Also, Major religions have made it part of their law that everyone is accountable for their own actions. From my experiences of different religions, I found it interesting that Abrahamic religions share some common laws. I found that interesting because they share the same root (Abraham pbuh). Nadsat In A Clockwork Orange One of the first things that captures a reader s attention as they re reading Anthony Burgess novel, A Clockwork Orange, is the argot, also known as nadsat in the novel, which presents the idea that language can shape reader s thoughts. This is depicted by the language techniques such as descriptive language and slang (nadsat). The nadsat, which the main character and narrator, Alex, and his friends in violence, or droogs as they call themselves, speak throughout the novel shields the readers of the gory and brutal violence that is really being done to people. The way the author describes the attacks, or as Alex calls ultraviolence , using the artificial language works because all of the time the readers are reading, they have to be think about what words such as yarbles (testicles), glazzies (eyes), and oozy (chain) mean, and so this creates a delay in the readers minds in registering what is actually happening to the people Alex and his friends are attacking.... It would not only be in the students best interest to do this, but also the schools as it increases academic achievement. It also improves your cognitive functions and benefits society. All of these factors led me to this conclusion: everyone should take at least four years worth of foreign language classes. Many Americans argue that because English is quickly becoming the global language, Americans should not have to learn other languages. They are operating under the following pretenses: there wouldn t possibly be anyone we would want to communicate with that does not speak English already, other countries should teach their citizens a second language (English) so that they can communicate with us, and learning another language is only beneficially if it directly influences us gaining more opportunities. These biases are misguided. Learning another language will benefit you for your entire life. Those sections are advertising, product liability, and leadership ethics. Within the three sections, I will identify and briefly discuss three specific ethical issues. I will then choose one ethical issue and go into the detail about how ABC Widgets Inc. will implement a policy on how to avoid the ethical issue. Advertising: Advertising has many ethical issues; however, I will focus on integrity, bribery, and manipulation. Integrity is a question of motives. It questions the purpose behind what is being advertised and the character of the company/person who is supporting it. You need your audience s trust if you want them to buy your products; there has to be a relationship. However, it is not integrity alone but integrity intertwined with persuasion and character. An example of this is the famous Jack Bennett case of 1997. Jack pulled in many individuals as well as businesses with his persuasion and enticed them to join the cause to help others. However, his audience misjudged his character. Jack Bennett s company, New Era Philanthropy, promised to match donations with money from anonymous donors when he simply did not have anonymous donors. During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America. Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to incarceration. Some people may not have a psychological disorder that put them in prison and others may never recover from their illness. This model was created during the 1960s after movements such as the Civil Rights Movement, the war on poverty, and the resistance to the Vietnam war showed that social and political values have a major impact on the criminal justice system. The community model of corrections was based on the assumption that the criminal justice system should aim at reintegrating the offender into the community(Clear 56). This model of corrections focused on alternatives to incarceration such as probation or parole. Officials felt that prisons were to be avoided because they were artificial institutions that interfered with the offender s ability to develop a crime free lifestyle(Clear 56). Many thought that incarceration was a negative influence on criminals because it took away the skills needed to successfully become a part of society once released. Under this program, an offender would work with a counselor to find a job, and money so that they were not left to the streets. They are believed to be the Rabbi s of today, and are living proof, that they all were not against Jesus. Today, all major branches of Judaismclaim at least some affinity with rabbinic Judaism of centuries gone by, and perceive Judaism as issuing not simply from the Hebrew Bible but also from the interpretation of those Scriptures by the Pharisees and their successors, the rabbis (Cook, M. J. p. 441). With this in mind, it is believed that we can get a better understanding of the Pharisees and Scribes of when Jesus walked the earth. By using the Gospels and the rabbinic writings one could get a clear picture of this group according to Dr. Cook. There is one account in the Gospel of John were one Pharisee questions Jesus and is trying to understand who Jesus is and what message is he bringing them. Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him (John 3:1 2). Sole proprietorship is the simplest form of business organization in which there is only one owner (Cheeseman, 2015, p. 570). Single person is responsible for all debts, liabilities, and obligations, as well as unlimited liability for business operations. If the owner is unsuccessful and acquires debt, creditors can pursue legal action and acquire access to personal bank accounts, real estate, and other assets by the court order to repay person s debt obligations. Owners of sole proprietorships cannot raise capital by selling shares that represent stakeholder interest in the business. The owner reports all income and expenses in personal tax return. The business terminates upon withdrawal or an owner s death. The owner can sell the business and by doing so, will lose the ownership. Advantages of sole proprietorship include freedom of decisions, tax breaks, ease to start, ownership of all profits, being taxed once as a personal income of the owner, and lack of government compliance. Disadvantages of sole proprietorship include unlimited liability, very limited sources of production, and difficulty to raise capital.
