Oliver Wendell Holmes The Path Of The Law
THE PATH OF THE LAW BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, JR.
The Path of the Law , originally put forth in the form of a speech, was presented by
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in the year 1897. He is considered as one of the forerunners of
American Legal Realism. In The Path of the Law, broadly speaking,
Holmes speaks about the Prediction Theory of law, the Bad Man Account of the law, and his
criticism of Legal Formalism. In this paper, the reader will find arguments either for or against
these theories.
Holmes starts The Path of the Law with the Prediction Theory. He states that law is not a mystery
but a well known profession. In any given legal setup, the lives of people are governed by the
command of the law. The law lays down fixed rules and
regulations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Langdell s formalism is largely based on logic and codified laws. The judges simply apply the
law of the land to the issue at hand. They are bound by the letter of the law. Holmes criticized
this form of formalism by stating that, The life of the law has not been logic: it has been
experience .6 In other words, the way law has been practiced and its growth over the years has
been based not on how the judges deduce the laws from statutes and apply them, but how they
apply laws is based on what they feel is correct. Such decisions may seem arbitrary, but they are
actually based on logical reasoning in accordance with laws in force.
However, to critique Holmes s stand, one may say that a law needs to be uniform so that there is
no ambiguity as to what the stance of a law is with regard to a particular manner. An example
from recent times in India, with regard to the problems faced by following a legal realism model
would be the Naz Foundation case. This case was with regard to consensual sex amongst members
of the same gender. The Delhi High
Court ruled in favour of consensual sex amongst members of the same

How Does The Bible Create A Theology Of Waiting
The Bible should undergird every aspect of Christian life. The Bible is where God has chosen to
reveal his character, express his desires and to unveil his plan of redemption for humanity. The
Bible holds the information that aids to solidify the believer s faith, relays history, offers wisdom,
comforts the hurting and communicates the foundational instructions for living a transformed
Christ like life. Therefore, this thesis will begin its research from a Biblical perspective, to
establish a biblically grounded framework to aid in the development of a theology of waiting.
Humanity s experience with waiting is interwoven throughout the whole of Scripture, beginning
with Adam and Eve s expulsion from the Garden. The act of waiting is a part of the humanity s
metanarrative, culminating with the return of Christ. However, God s love for his creation leads
him to implement a plan of redemption that will repair the fractured relationship between himself
and humanity. Conversely, the Bibleonly reveals a redacted version of God s plan, leaving humanity
with partial information about the future, which compels us to wait on further instructions directly
from Him. The Bible does provide a complete schematic of the redemptive plan, however, the theme
that is consistent throughout the plan is that humanity is called to wait on and trust in God to
faithfully work out the minute details of his plan.

A Person s World View May Not Be My Worldview
A person s world view may not be my worldview, so how do I differ what a worldview is? Along
with, how is a person s worldview different from a christian worldview? When I read an
encyclopedia the definition might look like this, a person s specific bias or opinion on things
that influence how they look at the world and the things around them from what is there to what
is expected to be there. Now that I have a definition of a worldview, what is a christian
worldview? With the article A Christian Worldview there are five points that make up a christian
worldview. First God exists and the world was created by him. Secondly humans who fully believe
in God have enjoyment to look forward to after deathbecause they can be with God, but everyone
has a soul and spirit to go somewhere after they die. Third science and metaphysics are not the
only things that explain a big bang theory and everything that exists today. Fourth is epistemology
is not the only thing that helps humans perceive real senses. Last there is a difference between
objective morality and subjective morality along with the Bible being a source for christians to
follow God s will for our life (Drury 3).
Likewise with the five points to a person s worldview and a christian worldview how can all
citizens legally choose not to give life to an unborn child, but not let people end their life when
they are terminally ill, or go through extreme pain for the rest of their life. Currently there are four

Black Dwarf Research Paper
Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures
acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which
stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take
millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth,
through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is
balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star.
Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. Some event, such as a shock wave or
collision of a galaxy, causes the cloud to collapse and form smaller pieces, which contract inward
and form a protostar. As the star... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the helium in the core is exhausted, the star emits its outer layers into space, contracts down,
and emerges as a White Dwarf. Ultimately, the White Dwarf will lose all of its energy, collapse due
to gravity, and enter a Black Dwarf stage. No Black Dwarfs have been observed in our universe
because the time it takes for a White Dwarf to cool completely is likely to be trillions of years. A
Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf.
In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and
contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will
interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of
the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s
own gravitational force. This creates a shock wave blowing the outer layer of the star apart in a
core collapse supernova eruption. This explosion results in the distribution of elements throughout

The Return Of Martin Guerre Essay
Introduction The Tale of Martin Guerre has been retold throughout history in the forms of; a play,
movie and a book. What makes this story so interesting is due to the fact that it stems from a real
life peasant court case which occurred in the 16th century. In the case, a man by the name of
Arnaud du Tilh takes the identity of a middle class family man by the name of Martin Guerre. He
manages to take on the persona of Martin Guerre for a period of three years where he manages to
both; increase the Guerre family estate, and father a child with Martin s wife, Bertrande de Rols.
What helped Arnaud steal Martin s identity was due to the fact that the real Martin Guerre had left
his wife and family eight years prior to Arnaud arriving in the French village of Aritigat. Twentieth
Century historians Natalie Zemon Davisand Robert Finlay have attempted to provide historical
reasoning for why the case of Martin Guerre became so popular. As this essay will show; both
historians were constrained to the same archival evidence; however they used different methods of
interpretation to come up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

archival evidence she collected. Davis ultimate goal was to ensure that her book was easily
accessible to all audiences and therefore, she catered to different groups of people through her
choice of detail, literary voice, and metaphor as by topical analysis . By writing about how people

Research Paper On The Trinity
How does the belief in the Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) affect Christian Worship,
Christian living, and Christian witness?
The Trinity is a doctrine that has and will continue to bring much controversy to the Christian faith.
Yet it is important to understand that a practical approach to this topic can be very important.
Having a full understanding of the Trinity is vital to the life of a Christian. The distinct, yet
interwoven aspects of God s character will affect every aspect of a believer s life.
It is important to begin by stating that there are many different doctrinal views of the Trinity.
However I believe that the doctrine of Trinity defines one God who is eternally existent as three
distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These definitions express three crucial truths: (1) The
Father, Son, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a response to the realization of who we are as compared to who God is. When we do this
however it is important to understand that God has provided a model for us in our worship.
Because he is in community our worship should be done in a communal sense. We need to
depend on one another to help us comprehend the majesty and love of God and respond in true
worship as a community (Eph. 3:14 21). (Beyond Opinion 246) It appears that while we are to
worship the Son and the Holy Spirit, we are to primarily focus our attention upon the Father
because they give glory to the Father (John 16:14 15: 17:4 5). A great verse that brings this idea
into focus is Ephesians 2:18: Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit
because of what Christ has done for us. Understanding this allows us to have a proper focus on
how we are to Worship God. An incorrect interpretation of scripture can lead to an overemphasis
upon one of the members of the trinity which can be dangerous to the spiritual development of a
believer and

How Did Beethoven Change Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the
sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine
symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music
right out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed musicby creating a new era called Romanticism,
influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist.
The first way that Beethoven changed music was by creating romanticism. Ludwig is viewed as
the most transitional figure between the eras of classical and romanticism of musical history. Even
though his first period was more conventional he grew tired of this and made his second time period

He took the old methods and twisted to match his style of thinking. As mentioned before,
Ludwig used a D major melody and a B minor harmony all at once. (Discuss) He then called this
juxtaposed chords, which were opposing the old idea where they generally did not mix minor and
major chords. If he changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music.
Ludwig also influenced Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing.
(Discuss) He changed the idea of writing music from composing just to compose into actually
creating a picture in the listeners mind. Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first
programmatic symphony where the music was meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being
a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of his period brought the Classical forms to the
highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural and harmonic terms of his teachers
Mozart and Haydn. (Guthrie) While he was influenced by his teachers, he took their old ways and
transformed them into a new version of thinking to help others actually express themselves through
the power of music. He changed the old methods into a new and improved version. He held onto the
old culture without wearing it

French Indian War Essay
The French and Indian War
The French and Indian war raged from 1754 to 1763. Its roots began long before the first shot was
fired, about 100 years before between the French and the English. The French and Indian War was
not fought between the French and the Indians, but the two allied with the Canadians against the
English. It was the catalyst for the Seven Years War, from 1756 1763, which was brought over into
Europe, the Carnatic Wars, and it eventually lead to the American Revolution.
By the late 1600 s to the beginning of the 1700 s, the colonization of the America s by the English
had been reaping great rewards. The English controlled much of the eastern seaboard, and were

This was soon to be an act of war since England and France were at peace. The French tricked Major
Washington into signing a letter written in French, which stated that Major Washington
assassinated the 10 Frenchmen and attacked the rest.
The always present Indian problem added to England s decision to send two regiments of troops to
protect the colonizers. When the French heard word of this they too sent several regiments of
troops to protect the frontiersmen and settlers in their territory in New France. Peace talks in
England soon began between the French. The commander of France s troops was Baron de
Dieskau who was under orders to defend New France and not to instigate any attack. The English
sent General Braddock with a larger force than Major Washington to make war with the French on
the frontier. The French being well aware of their surroundings, made good use of it while
ambushing the English as they marched in columns toward the French to attack Fort Duqesne. The
French certainly got the upper hand in this attack, killing many of the English soldiers and causing
the to retreat. The English never faught in a gorilla warfare manner, but in columns and rows often
facing musket and cannon fire. While the French sent troops over to the Americas, the English had
11 war ships waiting for the French to arrive. Not knowing if the French and the English were at
war or not, the French pulled along side of the English Dunkirk and asked. The English Dunkirk

The Black Arts Movement Analysis
Larry Neal made these key principles of the Black Arts Movement clear in The Black Arts
Movement where he coined the term. The basic points are that the Black Arts Movement is
community based, explores the relationship between arts and politics, refutes white societal norms
by means of a true split from the racist west (784), and is ethical from the lens of the oppressed.
Basically, the movement is meant to give a voice to those oppressed (black) people that did not
have one previously.
The focus on separating from western viewpoints is displayed with language (a lot of Black Arts
poems utilize African American vernacular English and stray away from conventions), the
changing on one s last name from that of the oppressor, etc. Neal ... Show more content on

During the Civil Rights Era, the Black Power Movement articulated a radicalized Black manhood
throwing off the imagery of the emasculated and shuffling Black male dictated by racial caste...
Hypermasculinity (i.e., hyperagressiveness, hypersexuality, excessive emphasis on the appearance
of wealth, and the absence of personal accountability) as a dominant conception of manhood in
poor inner city communities, particularly among youth, is seen as a by product of the pathology
and despair of the Black underclass. (Hunter and Davis 23).
Basically, because of the way that the system is set up to harm and bring down black men, their
immediate response is to produce this shield of hyper masculinity that has become seeped in
black culture even today and led to the silencing of women. Women are left unable to express
themselves because all of the space that there was to take up when it came to black voices was
used by men.
Many works depict women negatively referring to them in derogatory terms and as simply sexual
objects, but despite this, women were eventually able to advance in the movement and succeed in
ways that their male counterparts were unable to. They were able to invoke emotional responses
and illicit things from an audience that the men in the movement struggled

This strategy is full of shortcomings; fundamentally, the spending all out is ascertained at a late

Causes Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident
The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident was a devastating nuclear accident. It happened April 26, 1996 at
the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The accident happened during a yearly test (Robinson). The
test that occurred had been done the year before and when fine, but when tested again, it went
amiss ( Chernobyl Accident: Sequence of Events, World Nuclear Association). There are many
causes for why the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened like a flawed system, human error, and
no plans if an emergency should happen. There are also many health effects of what happened after
the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident like mental instability, a higher chance for thyroid cancer, and
more cases of leukemia.
One of the main reasons that the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened was because the reactor
was flawed. Although every Nuclear Power Plant has flaws, Chernobyl had some pretty noticeable
ones. A big design flaw was the way the reactor was made. Another design flaw is the lack of
safety features. The last main design flaw is the flaws that could have been prevented.
When building the reactors at Chernobyl, it was decided to build an RBMK reactor (The
Chernobyl Gallery). An RBMK reactor is also known as a boiling water reactor (The Chernobyl
Gallery). The Soviets did not think that an RBMK reactor was capable of exploding (Read). An
RBMK reactor was at the time considered the cheaper and safer option although it did release
roughly 40 times the amount of radiation of a Pressurized Water Reactor

Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium Tiosulfate
Reaction Order and Rate Laws
Glenna Hoefs
December 26, 2017 Abstract
This report discusses a laboratory procedure to study the effect of reactant concentration on the rate
of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate, with the aim of determining the
order of each reactant and the rate law for the reaction.
For this experiment, the reactants were added to a well plate in varying concentrations. The
reaction was timed by using a stopwatch and observing the production of a precipitate. The data
collected during this procedure was then analyzed to determine the reaction order for each reactant
as well at the rate law for the reaction.
The hydrochloric acid was determined to have a reaction order of 0, while the sodium thiosulfate
was determined to have a reaction order of 1. The reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium
thiosulfate was determined to be first order with respect to N2S2O3. The k constant for this
reaction was calculated to be 0.1 1/s.
We conclude that the concentration of hydrochloric acid does not have an effect on the rate of the
reaction. The concentration of sodium thiosulfate, however, is directly proportional to the rate of
the reaction.

Process Essay About Becoming Dorothy Gale
The process to becoming a new character is one that many people do not get the chance to
experience. It starts with the makeup, applied in a dimly lit dressing room, surrounded by other
actors in the same position. Foundation put on so heavily that the face resembles a just painted
wall and lips stained for weeks after the final performance. Mascara applied thinly at first. Then,
darker and darker so that the people in the back can tell that your eyelashes are there. And in one
swift motion, much like the act of painting, a dollop of crimson red lines the cheekbone in a grand
finale. The makeup is what makes you appear different. It keeps the illusion alive. Becoming

heart hums to the sound of the audience s murmur and I sing under my breath, looking for the pitch
to Somewhere over the Rainbow when, suddenly, in what seemed like slow motion, the beat is
heard and I walk on stage, no longer myself. Reciting the lines is just the beginning of acting the
part. The emotion conveyed brings the character to life. Dorothy was not just a girl in a movie or a
book. She was living, breathing, growing. She was me, and I was her. This is how theatre was
meant to work. As the performance ended, the reality of what I was losing became very clear to
me. I said my last line, stood in my last position, and bowed together with the wonderful cast I got
to share my journey with. The lights dimmed, the music played in conclusion, and the curtains
closed slowly, signifying the end of a star performance. Once the black curtains hit each other, in a

Pete Docter Up Analysis
In the film, Up , directed by Pete Docter, an important idea is change. This important idea is shown
through Docter s use of dialogue, medium shot and dramatic soundtrack. This idea is important and
relevant to society today because it teaches us to accept any changes that may occur and to make
the most of the time available to you.
Up is a film about an old widower, Carl Fredricksen, following his promise he had with Ellie,
Carl s partner, of going to the forbidden Paradise Falls and to see his idol, Charles Muntz, who
turns out to be disgraced. Carl embarks on his journey to the South America wilderness in the
balloon powered house of his own invention. But Carl s worst nightmare comes true when he
discovers a young adventuresome wilderness explorer , Russell is also aboard the balloon house.
After they faced many challenges, Carl finally gets to the top of Paradise Falls.
This idea of change is shown through Docter s use of medium shot. An example of this is when
Carl hits the construction guy on his head with the walking stick. Docter uses these techniques to

Was Marcus Butus A Bloody-Tragic Hero In Shakespeare s...
Was Marcus Brutus a bloody thirsty madman? Did he actually believe murdering Caesar would
make Rome great again? Both of these statements sound absurd, but are they really? In
Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, the main character is considered to be Marcus Brutus, the loyal friend
to Julius Caesar. After it is pronounced that Caesar is to become the king of Rome after returning
from a military victory against Pompey, Cassius approaches Brutus with an plan. Is it possible,
that once Brutus hears this plan, he is driven to join the conspiracy to kill Caesar? If your answer
to the previous question was yes, then is it believable that Brutus was a tragic hero?
Throughout the duration of the tragedy, Brutus has received numerous comments about his
personality and how good of a human being he is. In Scene II of Act I, Brutus is caught in a
conversation with Cassius, in which Cassius off handedly mentions, Brutus, I do observe you now
of late, I have not from your eyes that gentleness and show of love as I was wont to have (I.ii.34

good natured and affectionate , something is bothering him and has steered him away from these
normal emotions. Brutus states,
Cassius,

Merely upon myself. VexГЁd I am

Master Harold... and the Boys
Athol Fugard s drama, Master Harold . . . And The Boys, was written during a time of great

caused Fugard to use the discussions between Sam and Hally to demonstrate the religious, racial,

Evaluation Of The Internship Project Essay
Analysis of the Internship Project This evidence based project focused on the creation of a rubric
for simulation experiences in the baccalaureate program at WKU. To become familiar with the
different uses of simulation and its evaluation within the nursing realm, completion of a
comprehensive review of the literature occurred. Hence, the search included the use of Google
Scholar, PubMed, and EBSCOhost databases to aid with the search of pertinent literature.
Identifying keywords selected for the search were nursing simulation, nursing simulation
evaluation, and nursing simulation rubrics. Published articles chosen for review fell between the
years of 2010 and 2015. Afterwards, a review of the curriculum learning objectives as outlined in the
syllabus for the Senior Practicum course established specific course needs for the rubric.
Specifically, this outlined list of objectives requires the student to recall knowledge, comprehension,
and understanding of human homeostasis and disease processes within the nursing construct.
During the simulation, the student applies the recalled material to care for the patient from the
most basic level to the highest level of need. Following the review of curriculum objectives, the
writer conducted an analysis of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) standards.

On the other hand, there is a binding contract between Ada and Ben if Ada has knowledge of the

reference to the case of Entores Ltd v. Miles Far East Corporation in 1955, the plaintiff in London

Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
Jaanavi Selvaraj
Hitchens Pd 8
Silent Spring
Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings
them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the
environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought
against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if
farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become
dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the
environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to
prevent the dangers of pesticide application.
In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the
pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film,
Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly.
To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer
vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the
river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something
that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument,
Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons
such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that
hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson
further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity.
By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public
action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides
casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic
language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention.
Moreover, uninvolved animals such as

Essay On Persian Wars
Keri Ann Hutcherson
Western Civilization
Sept 12 2016
The Persian Wars, involving Persia and Greece, occurred in 480 and 490 BCE. Persia invaded
Greece as she tried to expand her land into their territory. King Darius had already led Persia to
gradually expand into Europe with Iona, Macedonia, and Thrace in her possession. The next place
on King Darius list was Athens and the remainder of Greece. King Darius, with his manners, sent
emissaries to demand the Greeks yielding to his rule. The Greeks, who refused to give up their
territory, killed these emissaries; which sent a strong message to King Darius. Sparta and Athens
united to protect Greece from Persian attack. Although Greece took a firm stand, King Darius
was not giving in. Persia s response was to take Greece by force. After Persia failed to take Greece,
ten years passed by before Persia started things back up again. In 480 BCE, King Xerxes attempted

civilizations. If Persia had dominated Greece, their culture may not have survived. Greek culture

and is still thriving. Another long term result, one that was not quite as long term as the one

that was not going to be overtaken by foreigners. Greece established the fact that they meant

Essay on Young Goodman Brown
The main focus of the story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne is the triumph of
evil over good. A supposedly good man is tempted by evil and allows himself to be converted into
a man of evil. This is much like the situation that arises in Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, where
two people are tempted to sin and give in thus submitting themselves to the power of the devil. In
this novel, the area where the devil resides is strictly parallel to that in Young Goodman Brown.
As Goodman Brown sets off on his walk into the forest, he believes that there is more good within
his community than evil, and that he himself is a good man. He ... Show more content on

Goodman Brown then says that these people s ways have no attachment to him and therefore he
is not capable of their sinful doings. This urges his companion into uncontrollable laughter, for he
knows that Goodman Brown is as much a sinner as the rest of them although he has yet to realize
this. Meeting Goody Cloyse in the forest shows that Goodman Brown has been evil all of his life,
for she is a witch, and he says that the old lady taught him his catechism.
Goodman Brown is tempted by his fellow traveler, who is most definitely an advocate of the
devil, or the devil in another form, to come deeper into the forest, but he refuses. Goodman
Brown now sits and ponders whether or not to turn back. He hears the voices of the town s
deacon and minister, and they talk of he communion they will be attending. Upon hearing this,
Goodman Brown cries out that he will stand strong against the devil. He then hears the confused
sound of voices of the towns people. This is the devil firmly urging Goodman Brown to give in
to the evil force. Now the desperate man hears the scream of a woman and sees his wife s pink
hair ribbon in a tree and he is paralyzed by the effects of this. Crying out My Faith is gone, there
is no good on earth: and sin is but a name he instantly sells himself to the devil.

Human Development And Development Of Human Language
Humans like to speak our minds. And the language in which we speak is unique, when compared to
the communication between animals. Human language is a complex communication system
consisting of the creation, acquisition, and development of sound patterns using complex motor
control. Though how is it that we can do this? What makes humans so different from other animals,
even those genetically close to us such as Neanderthals, that we are able to speak and comprehend
complex syntax. Turns out, the answer could be more biological than we think: Involving our genes.
The first gene discovered to be directly involved in the acquisition and development of speech and
language was the Forkhead Box Protein (FOXP2). This gene, located on chromosome 7, appeared
during the development of the brain, heart, lungs, and guts in both fetal and adult humans. The
FOXP2 protein is what s known as a transcription factor, meaning that it works to regulate the
expression of other genes throughout the body, similar to how an on off switch regulates a light.
Orthologs of the FOXP2 gene have been found in other mammals, but the human FOXP2 is unique.
While it is believed that hundreds of genes have their activities regulated by this protein, only a
select few have been identified. Of the genes mapped, many have been connected to the human
capacity for language and speech.
Mutations of the FOXP2 in humans cause critical language and speech disorders, disorders such as
Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia. Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia is a condition in which
children struggle to coordinate the complex motor movements need to produce clear speech with
their mouths. These children do not have any nerve or tissue damage, nor any cognitive disabilities.
It was the study of this disorder, through an English family known as the KE Family, that the
FOXP2 gene was first discovered. The case of the KE Family was studied through the Institute of
Child Health at the University London College, though research was carried out throughout the
years at different universities. For instance, it was Myma Gopnik, a linguistics professor with
McGill University, who hypothesized that causation of Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia was not
through any cognitive or

Arguments On Inequality In Society
Division has been human nature since time immemorial. The clash of different groups based purely
on their difference has been part of our nature since the days of the Sumerians. This conflict has
always been an issue in society, plaguing nations and dividing communities. However, with modern
innovation, many believe that we have overcome inequality, citing the rise of new arguments for
equalityand a more conciliatory outlook arising from activists. There is another faction, however,
that argues that inequality is part of human nature and has been and will be around for the entire
existence of the human race, due to its intrinsic nature and the subtle restrictions of freedoms that
plague this nation.
This latter argument finds support in the rhetoric and actions of both antiquity and the present.

Jennifer Popevec in Management Matters emphasized that mentoring has changed from another
word for training to building long=term relationships to help young people excel both personally
and professionally. Mentoring is for someone who really wants to help someone develop to the
next level, and you can t separate the personal from the professional. Mentoring usually ends up as
a form of training or coaching because it is easier than investing part of you in another person s
successes and failures.
Jennifer Popovec explains that there are four generations and each generation needs different
things from mentoring. The silent generation is stepping out of leadership roles but often remain
in the workplace. The new leaders are coming from the baby boom generation and the older Gen
Xers. The baby boomer and older Gen Xers are looking form long term, relationship driven
mentoring. The young Gen Xers and Millennial have some very obvious weaknesses that can be
addressed by mentoring. Gen Xers tend to be tech savvy but overall are more vulgar and less
courteous than other generations. Millennial tend to have few problems with courtesy, but have
been overprotected by their parents and now need extra coddling to adjust to work life.

Southwest Airlines has been a model of admiration for the airline industry and businesses from

fight competitors in the court system for nearly three and a half years.
In 1966, Fortune Magazine states, A San Antonio lawyer, Herb Kelleher, founded Southwest with
one of his clients (now a Board member) over drinks at a local bar. Southwest was started in a bar

Southwest Airlines is characterized as a C corporation with duration distinguished as a normal
perpetual existence. The shareholders are not normally liable for debts of the corporation and they
preserve an operation that is normally more structured, requiring more meetings and (in some
states) more reporting requirements. Management is very centralized through the board of
directors (elected by the shareholders) and the officers (elected by the directors). The corporation
is taxable entity, although the income which would normally be taxed at the corporate level can
normally be paid out in salaries (and in other deductible ways) so that there is in fact no tax at the
corporate level. As far as transferability of interest, it is normally fully transferable and raising
capital is in the choice of public companies. Southwest Airlines values employees, initiating the first

offered its employees a record setting $138M in profit sharing. This tax deferred compensation

Perception Of Blind And Fair Justice
Despite the appealing notion of blind and fair justice, many question the existence of this ideal in
reality and rightly so. Many of the challenges to law s claim of impartiality concern the influence of
social characteristics such as race or sex when they should be irrelevant. Marc Galanter introduces a
more structural argument, related to the frequency with which one litigates, bringing disputes
before a court. Galanter claims that those who regularly engage in similar litigation, whom he
labels repeat players (RPs) have multiple advantages over one shotters (OSs), who rarely enter the
forum of law, where courts interpret and apply official rules to settle disputes, in their ability to
achieve desired legal outcomes. The fact that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though not all repeat players are necessarily society s haves some of the residents of the urban
neighborhood studied by Sally Engle Merry are examples of exceptions in American society, most
are. One often thinks of haves and have nots in terms of material differences, but where Galanter
adds the most value to the discussion of inequality is his explanation of the more dynamic
advantages that come from more frequent legal engagement and which continually reinforce this
inequality.
Part of Galanter s project in identifying the mechanism behind systematic biases in the courts is his
desire to prescribe potential avenues for reform. It is not only important to recognize that the haves
come out ahead but also why they do. Though he does discuss tangible differences in resources,
including access to specialized knowledge, those factors alone can miss the less tangible benefits
that certain parties enjoy. For example, due to their ongoing contact with the court, RPs uniquely
have the opportunity to become more embedded in the community of legal actors and build social
capital through these informal relationships. Though Eisenstein, Flemming, and Nardulli
specifically study county criminal courts in their study, their observations of the unique cultures of
court communities can extend to the forum of law more broadly. They note that membership in
such a community allows for trust to be established and credit to be built.

Beach Decor Research Paper
Do you want to feel like you are closer to the beach? Often after a vacation from the beach, all we
want to do is go back. The feeling is so strong that we want to create that same feeling inside of
our homes. By creating that feeling of peace, it will make us feel as if we have been spending the
whole day at the beach once again. The beach offers so many different details that allow us to
create a home beach decor to our liking.
One of the best places to begin with beach decor is a patio or enclosed sun room. Since these rooms
are already outside, you can dream of being close to the beach (if you aren t already). When
thinking of the beach, think of the colors that calm you. Colors that you can use in your beach
home decor can include sky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sea life such as dolphins, seagulls and crabs are among the first animals that usually come to
mind. The walls in a room can be decorated with photos of dolphins or birds flying across the sky.
For a comedic approach, there can always be little crab statues or other accessories that can sit on
a shelf or table. Even photographs of marine animals can be a beautiful addition to any room.
Another beautiful aspect to add for beach decor are ocean sunsets. Sunsets usually offer an array
of beautiful colors that paint across the sky and reflect off the water. A sunset can create a serene
feeling that makes one feel at peace.
To tickle one s senses, candles that have smells that are similar to the ocean or beach could make
beach home decor come alive too. Find candles that have hues of blues, greens and tans. The
scents can make one feel as if they are truly at the beach. Candles often give off a relaxing vibe for
a peaceful setting.
If you want your home to feel like your favorite beach retreat, you can use some of these ideas for
inspiration. Home should always be a place to relax at. By adding beach home decor, a room can
feel like a mini vacation to get away from the stress that may enter our lives every now and

music. Those ways can also help the musician academically or financially. Compared to centuries
ago, the musician can now distribute musicin various ways, not just by paper. Nevertheless,
copyright laws came into existence in the sixteenth century as well, have also benefited the
musician. Over time these laws have focused more on the musician instead of patrons and printers
exploiting money from the musician. Thus, copyright laws of today and improvement of
technology have become beneficial to musicians compared to centuries ago. This paper... Show

This system helped composers use special symbols, called note names, to indicate a generalized
system of music notation. These note names and durations were based on a system known as the
Guidonian Hand, which is said to have been developed by Guido of Arezzo. This system is based
on individual notes within a hexachord system, that can be identified unanimously by combining
the names of all the various solemnization syllables that each symbol could sustain. The hand
helped create a universal notation system that was used by all. Now composers from around the
area could use the invention of musical notation to write a composition using universal note names.
Along with the rise of composers writing their own names on their manuscript, this created the last
component used in what will be known as a printed music manuscript. Those elements helped
lead to the invention of the printing press. Now, composers were able to sell their compositions,
to use a generalized system of notation, and slowly began to switch from handwritten manuscripts
to printers copying all the work. Before the Gutenberg press, people would either hand write their
compositions or carve a block of wood with musical manuscript to print their music. However,
these blocks did not survive under repeated pressure and could not be reused. The technology was
still not the best for the musician, and create several problems, such as the long process to

An Investigation Into Smes Survival and the Discrimination...
Introduction
In a competitive global market, micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) play an
increasingly important role in a nation s economy. Today they make a substantial contribution to
job creation, innovation, as well as entrepreneurial skills. A report conducted by European
Commision(2005) stated that in the enlarged European Union of 25 countries, 23 million SMEs
provide about 75 million jobs and account for 99% of all enterprise. SMEs are also the vital
attributes for lifting the productivity of economy. This is primarily because SMEs are been
considered as having a key role to play in providing new products. Take UK for example, SMEs
have become more and more dynamic. SMEs have enjoyed higher productivity growth than ... Show

So in order to survive, firms have to look out for financial threats to the firms solvency and maintain
effective management control over their finances.
2. Human capital
In most SMEs, power is centralized in the hands of the owner managers and the owner managers
always play multiple roles in a company, including general manager, sales manager, production
manager, financial manager and so on, so that characteristics of the owner managers, such as
education background, family business background, personal goals, previous work experience,
strategic awareness have a significantly impact on firm s activities and performance. Several
studies indicate that in SMEs, the personality of the owner managers is a critical determinant of
corporate structure and strategy(Miller and Droge 1986; Miller and Toulouse 1986). Owner
managers who are inability to motivate staff, rarely listen to others advices, have little knowledge
of marketing strategy, finance, and personnel management may act as a significant constraint to
SMEs survival.
On the other hand, owner managers are not experts at everything, many owner managers in small
firms are lack of the leadership and management skills which are necessary for the firms survival
and growth. Deakins and Freel (1998) found that one of the critical factors in the success of a
SME was the ability to build an entrepreneurial team . The presence of a diversified management
team may imply a greater variety of complementary

Max Weber Domination Summary
In Weber s article he claims that there are specific types of domination, which stress the importance
of establishing legitimacy as a leader, within a group of people. He supports this opening claim in
his introduction paragraph, in which he defines the authority of domination classified by the kind
of claim demanded (2). He ultimately supports his by breaking down the types of legitimacy in
domination in three distinct categories: Legal authority, traditional authority, and charismatic
authority(3). He supports his argument through theoretical examples in which he assumes the
reader has a background in. The assumptions include: knowledge of basic authoritative
environments such as work setting or school that are applied to his... Show more content on

While there are mentions of other scholars and works mentioned in his paper, the purpose of them
lacks full supplementation for his paper, as he only uses the scholars as a brief mention rather than
build upon their arguments. However, despite my critique on his broad theoretical concepts of
domination, his beginning definition of the three pure types of authority (2) did help in
establishing his a convincing argument that engaged with historical and contextual concepts of
domination. Specifically when breaking down rational, traditional, and charismatic grounds of
authority, he is careful to clarify each ground through its establish belief or example that is easy
for the reader to understand and also apply their own knowledge too. While he doesn t use
specific examples from books or other documents that could add more validity to his argument, his
broader concepts work as a good supplementation for a future research paper (3). The larger
problem of this again is the interpretive claim, which counters any solidifying argument of Webbers
claims.
Domination, an interpretive word itself, is grounded in Weber s paper through three distinct
examples of authority that are broad enough to maintain an adaptive perspective on the topic itself.
The implications of this article help guide the reader to their own personal assumptions of what
domination is through a broad array of examples that are easy

The Future of Tracking Devices
If you have taken a high school biology course, you may have been exposed to the classic example
of Darwinian evolution involving industrial melanism in the peppered moth Biston betularia.
Melanism, which is the development of dark colored pigment, was observed in the peppered moth
Biston betularia shortly after the industrial revolution. During the industrial revolution, pollutants
killed the lichen on trees in many parts of Britain leaving them exposed to soot.1 This loss of lichen
darkened the normally light trees, and because of this environmental change, the survival rates of
two different peppered mothmorphs were altered. After the soot had appeared, the melanic
carbonaria morph was believed to have a higher survival rate than the non melanic typica because
birds would not be able to locate them on the darker trees as easily.2 In this system, birds are agents
of selection because they determine which morph of moth survives at a higher rate. Henry
Kettlewell produced evidence to support this in his mid twentieth century experiment where he
conducted cage experiments to determine if melanismin moths played a role in predation by birds.6
Kettlewell found that moths that did not have coloration that matched their resting tree were more
susceptible to being eaten.3 Since then, predation of the peppered moth by birds has been a classic
example used to teach evolution.
Birds as selective agents under fire
Recently, anti evolutionists have attacked this classic

Tom Robinson Character Analysis
In To Kill A Mockingbird the main conflict is the Tom Robinson case. Tom Robinson was
accused of beating and raping Mayella Violet Ewell. The people of Maycomb see Tom in two
different ways. There is the public view of Tom and the private view of him. The public view
would include the people of Maycomb who do not know Tom at a personal level, while the private
view would be his family, Calpurnia, and the other African Americans in the town of Maycomb.
The public see Tom as a dangerous man. For instance in the book it states I seen that black nigger
yonder ruttin on my Mayella (Lee 231)! Mayella even said that He got me round the neck,
cussin me a sayin dirt I fought and hollered, but he had me round the neck. He hit me agin a agin
(Lee 241). Both Mayella and Bob Ewell make the people in the court believe that Tom is some
sort of killer or dangerous man who should be lynched. Even Scout thought that Tom Robinson s
powerful shoulders rippled under his thin shirt (Lee 248). Tom was very built, and that did not help
his case. Before Tom even gave his testimony most people in the court and jurybelieved he was
guilty. Furthermore, The public view of Tom Robinson also includes that he is an abusive man
that takes advantage of woman. Such as when Mayella said I got somethin to say a I ain t say no
more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me (Lee 251). After she said this, Tom became
known as a person who would hurt women in an appalling way. Another example is when
Atticus says Miss Mayella, not to be tedious, you ve testified that the defendant hit you, grabbed
you around the neck, choked you, and took advantage of you (Lee 248). Mayella states all of
these facts in her testimony; making Tom look like a untrustworthy man. One part of her story
states that she went in the house to get him the nickel and turned around an fore she knew it he
was on her . (Lee 241) . Mayella makes the chance of Tom being innocent lower with her lies; Tom
becomes a monster to the public view. On the other hand to some he is as innocent as a
mockingbird. These people know the real Tom Robinson. They belive that Tom is a generous and a
hardworking man. A quotation in the story that supports this is

Art Comparison Essay
Compare and Contrast Works of Art
Bright colors jumping at you asking for attention, images so real viewers can not tell the
difference. These are the thoughts that came to my head as I gazed at two works of art by two
Mexican artists at MoLAA museum of art . I visited two museums, Bowers Museum of cultural Art
in the heart of Southern California and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach for my
report unfortunately I only liked the works in MoLAA and will talk about it through out my paper.
I will talk about two Mexican artists Rafael Cauduro and David Alfaro Siqueros that caught my
eye, and made me want to learn more of them and their approach to art. Siqueiros caught my eye
and interest because according to his biography no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cauduro paints supernatural scenarios with realism akin to 17th century masters like Dutch artists
Rembrandt van Rijin (Painting information Cauduro).
The piece I choose to critic is titled Buscado por su madre or Wanted by his Mother by Rafael
Cauduro, no year. This piece is an Oil on Canvas painting that measured 48 x36 located at the
Long Beaches MoLAA. The work is presented as one of a few Mexican artists that share an
interest in their painting primarily figurative style, political in nature, that often narrated the
history of Mexico or the indigenous culture. The painting is one of the first viewers see as they
enter the Museum. It is at eye level and demonstrates a superb use of illusionistic realism that it
creates the illusion of being real. The painting is of a old Missing poster of a man on a brick
wall. What made it stand out in my eyes was the fact that it looked to be a three dimensional
object on what looked like real bricks with the words wanted by mother on the top. Cauduro s
piece, in my eyes looked like he literally took a chunk out of a wall, and placed an old torn
missing poster of a man on the front and put it out for display. Cauduro uses texture to represent
the look of brick by applying thick strokes of paint creating a body of its own as and mimics the
look and shape of brick. He also makes applies the same technique on the wanted poster by
implying that it is old and torn by again layering his paint to create the

The Influence Of The European Age Of Exploration
Europeans in the 15th through 17th centuries were conquerors as they conquered the world. They
engaged in intensive exploration and early colonization of many parts of the world, and they
established direct contact with Africa, the Americas, and Asia. The Age of Discovery, also known
as the Age of Exploration was during this period of time. The Age of Exploration was when the
Europeans traveled around the world in search of different things. This is when Europeans
conquered different parts of the world. Europeans were conquerors because conquerors are defined
as a person who conquers (takes over) a place or people, and that is what Europeans in the 15th
through 17th century did. Even though Europeans did explore unfamiliar areas and traded... Show

They would explore that piece of unfamiliar land. Many lands previously unknown to Europeans
were discovered during this period of time, though many were already inhabited (a person or
group live in or occupy a place or environment). Europeans who explored the new areas would
conquer that new area and take it as theirs. European immigrants would do anything to conquer
new land, including killing people or groups that lived there and manipulating natives into
trusting them, so that they (Europeans) would have more power. With all of that said, the best
way to describe the European immigrants is describing them as conquerors. The best way to
describe the first wave of European immigrants is describing them as conquerors. The Europeans
in the 15th through 17th century were conquerors because they wanted to expand their empire
before their competition expanded to these new lands. In this period of time, Europeans
conquered about eighty four percent of the world. Also, Europeans started to rise to the top even
when they weren t as advanced as some of the other countries like Asia. Some of the reasons they
rose to the top was because they were one of the first to industrialize (develop industries in a
country or region on a wide scale), and they were immune to diseases such as smallpox. They were
motivated to travel and conquer the world because in

The Ocean s Influence To The Development Of The Ocean
Bibliographic Information: Smithsonian. Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing
ice, oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales
started bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the
fossils or preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently
evolved to be the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the
evolutionary shift was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a
shift in the concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger
body. This is important to the scientific community because... Show more content on

The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice
sheets may have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would
have been evenly distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the
amount of food like krill and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding
mechanism of the baleen whale would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have
been able to utilize the dense aggregations of prey in the water.
Evaluation
A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and
unity of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common
ancestry (1.B) through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils,
the scientists observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common
ancestor change and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits
were gained and lost, causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic
changes. Similarly, in this study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with
a changing environment. Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment.

eyes, and her black braided hair. She is wearing a pink, short sleeved shirt, (with flowers she sewed
on herself), and a nice jean skirt. She also wore some pretty new white sandals. She was ready for

up. A mean scowl slowly formed on her face. Go ahead. You win. Big whoop. She said,
clenching her teeth, but underneath that face, Emily knew, was a nice lonely girl, crying for
help. Emily took a big breath. She ran forward.........and put her arm out. Margret looked up in

  • 3. Oliver Wendell Holmes The Path Of The Law THE PATH OF THE LAW BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, JR. The Path of the Law , originally put forth in the form of a speech, was presented by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in the year 1897. He is considered as one of the forerunners of American Legal Realism. In The Path of the Law, broadly speaking, Holmes speaks about the Prediction Theory of law, the Bad Man Account of the law, and his criticism of Legal Formalism. In this paper, the reader will find arguments either for or against these theories. Holmes starts The Path of the Law with the Prediction Theory. He states that law is not a mystery but a well known profession. In any given legal setup, the lives of people are governed by the command of the law. The law lays down fixed rules and regulations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Langdell s formalism is largely based on logic and codified laws. The judges simply apply the law of the land to the issue at hand. They are bound by the letter of the law. Holmes criticized this form of formalism by stating that, The life of the law has not been logic: it has been experience .6 In other words, the way law has been practiced and its growth over the years has been based not on how the judges deduce the laws from statutes and apply them, but how they apply laws is based on what they feel is correct. Such decisions may seem arbitrary, but they are actually based on logical reasoning in accordance with laws in force. However, to critique Holmes s stand, one may say that a law needs to be uniform so that there is no ambiguity as to what the stance of a law is with regard to a particular manner. An example from recent times in India, with regard to the problems faced by following a legal realism model would be the Naz Foundation case. This case was with regard to consensual sex amongst members of the same gender. The Delhi High Court ruled in favour of consensual sex amongst members of the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Does The Bible Create A Theology Of Waiting The Bible should undergird every aspect of Christian life. The Bible is where God has chosen to reveal his character, express his desires and to unveil his plan of redemption for humanity. The Bible holds the information that aids to solidify the believer s faith, relays history, offers wisdom, comforts the hurting and communicates the foundational instructions for living a transformed Christ like life. Therefore, this thesis will begin its research from a Biblical perspective, to establish a biblically grounded framework to aid in the development of a theology of waiting. Humanity s experience with waiting is interwoven throughout the whole of Scripture, beginning with Adam and Eve s expulsion from the Garden. The act of waiting is a part of the humanity s metanarrative, culminating with the return of Christ. However, God s love for his creation leads him to implement a plan of redemption that will repair the fractured relationship between himself and humanity. Conversely, the Bibleonly reveals a redacted version of God s plan, leaving humanity with partial information about the future, which compels us to wait on further instructions directly from Him. The Bible does provide a complete schematic of the redemptive plan, however, the theme that is consistent throughout the plan is that humanity is called to wait on and trust in God to faithfully work out the minute details of his plan. Along with, how is a person s worldview different from a christian worldview? When I read an encyclopedia the definition might look like this, a person s specific bias or opinion on things that influence how they look at the world and the things around them from what is there to what is expected to be there. Now that I have a definition of a worldview, what is a christian worldview? With the article A Christian Worldview there are five points that make up a christian worldview. First God exists and the world was created by him. Secondly humans who fully believe in God have enjoyment to look forward to after deathbecause they can be with God, but everyone has a soul and spirit to go somewhere after they die. Third science and metaphysics are not the only things that explain a big bang theory and everything that exists today. Fourth is epistemology is not the only thing that helps humans perceive real senses. Last there is a difference between objective morality and subjective morality along with the Bible being a source for christians to follow God s will for our life (Drury 3). Likewise with the five points to a person s worldview and a christian worldview how can all citizens legally choose not to give life to an unborn child, but not let people end their life when they are terminally ill, or go through extreme pain for the rest of their life. • 6. Black Dwarf Research Paper Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth, through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star. Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. Some event, such as a shock wave or collision of a galaxy, causes the cloud to collapse and form smaller pieces, which contract inward and form a protostar. As the star... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the helium in the core is exhausted, the star emits its outer layers into space, contracts down, and emerges as a White Dwarf. Ultimately, the White Dwarf will lose all of its energy, collapse due to gravity, and enter a Black Dwarf stage. No Black Dwarfs have been observed in our universe because the time it takes for a White Dwarf to cool completely is likely to be trillions of years. A Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf. In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s own gravitational force. This creates a shock wave blowing the outer layer of the star apart in a core collapse supernova eruption. This explosion results in the distribution of elements throughout the ... • 7. The Return Of Martin Guerre Essay Introduction The Tale of Martin Guerre has been retold throughout history in the forms of; a play, movie and a book. What makes this story so interesting is due to the fact that it stems from a real life peasant court case which occurred in the 16th century. In the case, a man by the name of Arnaud du Tilh takes the identity of a middle class family man by the name of Martin Guerre. He manages to take on the persona of Martin Guerre for a period of three years where he manages to both; increase the Guerre family estate, and father a child with Martin s wife, Bertrande de Rols. What helped Arnaud steal Martin s identity was due to the fact that the real Martin Guerre had left his wife and family eight years prior to Arnaud arriving in the French village of Aritigat. Twentieth Century historians Natalie Zemon Davisand Robert Finlay have attempted to provide historical reasoning for why the case of Martin Guerre became so popular. The Trinity is a doctrine that has and will continue to bring much controversy to the Christian faith. Yet it is important to understand that a practical approach to this topic can be very important. Having a full understanding of the Trinity is vital to the life of a Christian. The distinct, yet interwoven aspects of God s character will affect every aspect of a believer s life. It is important to begin by stating that there are many different doctrinal views of the Trinity. These definitions express three crucial truths: (1) The Father, Son, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a response to the realization of who we are as compared to who God is. When we do this however it is important to understand that God has provided a model for us in our worship. Because he is in community our worship should be done in a communal sense. We need to depend on one another to help us comprehend the majesty and love of God and respond in true worship as a community (Eph. 3:14 21). (Beyond Opinion 246) It appears that while we are to worship the Son and the Holy Spirit, we are to primarily focus our attention upon the Father because they give glory to the Father (John 16:14 15: 17:4 5). A great verse that brings this idea into focus is Ephesians 2:18: Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. Understanding this allows us to have a proper focus on how we are to Worship God. An incorrect interpretation of scripture can lead to an overemphasis upon one of the members of the trinity which can be dangerous to the spiritual development of a believer and ... How Did Beethoven Change Music Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed musicby creating a new era called Romanticism, influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist. If he changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind. Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. It was the catalyst for the Seven Years War, from 1756 1763, which was brought over into Europe, the Carnatic Wars, and it eventually lead to the American Revolution. The English sent General Braddock with a larger force than Major Washington to make war with the French on the frontier. The French being well aware of their surroundings, made good use of it while ambushing the English as they marched in columns toward the French to attack Fort Duqesne. The French certainly got the upper hand in this attack, killing many of the English soldiers and causing the to retreat. The basic points are that the Black Arts Movement is community based, explores the relationship between arts and politics, refutes white societal norms by means of a true split from the racist west (784), and is ethical from the lens of the oppressed. Basically, the movement is meant to give a voice to those oppressed (black) people that did not have one previously. Basically, because of the way that the system is set up to harm and bring down black men, their immediate response is to produce this shield of hyper masculinity that has become seeped in black culture even today and led to the silencing of women. Women are left unable to express themselves because all of the space that there was to take up when it came to black voices was used by men. Many works depict women negatively referring to them in derogatory terms and as simply sexual objects, but despite this, women were eventually able to advance in the movement and succeed in ways that their male counterparts were unable to. The accident happened during a yearly test (Robinson). The test that occurred had been done the year before and when fine, but when tested again, it went amiss ( Chernobyl Accident: Sequence of Events, World Nuclear Association). There are many causes for why the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened like a flawed system, human error, and no plans if an emergency should happen. There are also many health effects of what happened after the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident like mental instability, a higher chance for thyroid cancer, and more cases of leukemia. One of the main reasons that the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened was because the reactor was flawed. Although every Nuclear Power Plant has flaws, Chernobyl had some pretty noticeable ones. A big design flaw was the way the reactor was made. Another design flaw is the lack of safety features. The last main design flaw is the flaws that could have been prevented. When building the reactors at Chernobyl, it was decided to build an RBMK reactor (The Chernobyl Gallery). An RBMK reactor is also known as a boiling water reactor (The Chernobyl Gallery). Reaction Between Hydrochloric Acid And Sodium Tiosulfate Reaction Order and Rate Laws Glenna Hoefs December 26, 2017 Abstract This report discusses a laboratory procedure to study the effect of reactant concentration on the rate of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate, with the aim of determining the order of each reactant and the rate law for the reaction. For this experiment, the reactants were added to a well plate in varying concentrations. The reaction was timed by using a stopwatch and observing the production of a precipitate. The data collected during this procedure was then analyzed to determine the reaction order for each reactant as well at the rate law for the reaction. The hydrochloric acid was determined to have a reaction order of 0, while the sodium thiosulfate was determined to have a reaction order of 1. The reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate was determined to be first order with respect to N2S2O3. The k constant for this reaction was calculated to be 0.1 1/s. We conclude that the concentration of hydrochloric acid does not have an effect on the rate of the reaction. The concentration of sodium thiosulfate, however, is directly proportional to the rate of the reaction. • 19. Process Essay About Becoming Dorothy Gale The process to becoming a new character is one that many people do not get the chance to experience. It starts with the makeup, applied in a dimly lit dressing room, surrounded by other actors in the same position. Foundation put on so heavily that the face resembles a just painted wall and lips stained for weeks after the final performance. Mascara applied thinly at first. Then, darker and darker so that the people in the back can tell that your eyelashes are there. And in one swift motion, much like the act of painting, a dollop of crimson red lines the cheekbone in a grand finale. The makeup is what makes you appear different. It keeps the illusion alive. Reciting the lines is just the beginning of acting the part. The emotion conveyed brings the character to life. Dorothy was not just a girl in a movie or a book. She was living, breathing, growing. She was me, and I was her. This is how theatre was meant to work. As the performance ended, the reality of what I was losing became very clear to me. I said my last line, stood in my last position, and bowed together with the wonderful cast I got to share my journey with. The lights dimmed, the music played in conclusion, and the curtains closed slowly, signifying the end of a star performance. Once the black curtains hit each other, in a final round of applause, the cast scattered in joy towards the meet and greet. All the while, hugs and congratulations were dealt out like a hand of cards. The happiness those around me felt was not reciprocated by, a now lonely, me. • 28. Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson Jaanavi Selvaraj Hitchens Pd 8 Silent Spring Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of pesticide application. In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film, Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity. By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Human Development And Development Of Human Language Humans like to speak our minds. And the language in which we speak is unique, when compared to the communication between animals. Human language is a complex communication system consisting of the creation, acquisition, and development of sound patterns using complex motor control. Though how is it that we can do this? What makes humans so different from other animals, even those genetically close to us such as Neanderthals, that we are able to speak and comprehend complex syntax. Turns out, the answer could be more biological than we think: Involving our genes. The first gene discovered to be directly involved in the acquisition and development of speech and language was the Forkhead Box Protein (FOXP2). This gene, located on chromosome 7, appeared during the development of the brain, heart, lungs, and guts in both fetal and adult humans. The FOXP2 protein is what s known as a transcription factor, meaning that it works to regulate the expression of other genes throughout the body, similar to how an on off switch regulates a light. Orthologs of the FOXP2 gene have been found in other mammals, but the human FOXP2 is unique. While it is believed that hundreds of genes have their activities regulated by this protein, only a select few have been identified. Of the genes mapped, many have been connected to the human capacity for language and speech. Mutations of the FOXP2 in humans cause critical language and speech disorders, disorders such as Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia. Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia is a condition in which children struggle to coordinate the complex motor movements need to produce clear speech with their mouths. These children do not have any nerve or tissue damage, nor any cognitive disabilities. It was the study of this disorder, through an English family known as the KE Family, that the FOXP2 gene was first discovered. The case of the KE Family was studied through the Institute of Child Health at the University London College, though research was carried out throughout the years at different universities. For instance, it was Myma Gopnik, a linguistics professor with McGill University, who hypothesized that causation of Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia was not through any cognitive or ... Another beautiful aspect to add for beach decor are ocean sunsets. Sunsets usually offer an array of beautiful colors that paint across the sky and reflect off the water. A sunset can create a serene feeling that makes one feel at peace. To tickle one s senses, candles that have smells that are similar to the ocean or beach could make beach home decor come alive too. Find candles that have hues of blues, greens and tans. The scents can make one feel as if they are truly at the beach. Candles often give off a relaxing vibe for a peaceful setting. • 38. The Musician, Technology And Copyright Laws For the musician, technology and copyright laws are some of the most beneficial aspects of their profession. In fact, technology has assisted musicians in distributing, listening to, and performing music. Those ways can also help the musician academically or financially. Compared to centuries ago, the musician can now distribute musicin various ways, not just by paper. Nevertheless, copyright laws came into existence in the sixteenth century as well, have also benefited the musician. Over time these laws have focused more on the musician instead of patrons and printers exploiting money from the musician. Thus, copyright laws of today and improvement of technology have become beneficial to musicians compared to centuries ago. This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This system helped composers use special symbols, called note names, to indicate a generalized system of music notation. These note names and durations were based on a system known as the Guidonian Hand, which is said to have been developed by Guido of Arezzo. This system is based on individual notes within a hexachord system, that can be identified unanimously by combining the names of all the various solemnization syllables that each symbol could sustain. The hand helped create a universal notation system that was used by all. Now composers from around the area could use the invention of musical notation to write a composition using universal note names. Along with the rise of composers writing their own names on their manuscript, this created the last component used in what will be known as a printed music manuscript. Those elements helped lead to the invention of the printing press. Now, composers were able to sell their compositions, to use a generalized system of notation, and slowly began to switch from handwritten manuscripts to printers copying all the work. Before the Gutenberg press, people would either hand write their compositions or carve a block of wood with musical manuscript to print their music. However, these blocks did not survive under repeated pressure and could not be reused. Introduction In a competitive global market, micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) play an increasingly important role in a nation s economy. Today they make a substantial contribution to job creation, innovation, as well as entrepreneurial skills. A report conducted by European Commision(2005) stated that in the enlarged European Union of 25 countries, 23 million SMEs provide about 75 million jobs and account for 99% of all enterprise. Human capital In most SMEs, power is centralized in the hands of the owner managers and the owner managers always play multiple roles in a company, including general manager, sales manager, production manager, financial manager and so on, so that characteristics of the owner managers, such as education background, family business background, personal goals, previous work experience, strategic awareness have a significantly impact on firm s activities and performance. Several studies indicate that in SMEs, the personality of the owner managers is a critical determinant of corporate structure and strategy(Miller and Droge 1986; Miller and Toulouse 1986). Owner managers who are inability to motivate staff, rarely listen to others advices, have little knowledge of marketing strategy, finance, and personnel management may act as a significant constraint to SMEs survival. Max Weber Domination Summary In Weber s article he claims that there are specific types of domination, which stress the importance of establishing legitimacy as a leader, within a group of people. He supports this opening claim in his introduction paragraph, in which he defines the authority of domination classified by the kind of claim demanded (2). He ultimately supports his by breaking down the types of legitimacy in domination in three distinct categories: Legal authority, traditional authority, and charismatic authority(3). Specifically when breaking down rational, traditional, and charismatic grounds of authority, he is careful to clarify each ground through its establish belief or example that is easy for the reader to understand and also apply their own knowledge too. While he doesn t use specific examples from books or other documents that could add more validity to his argument, his broader concepts work as a good supplementation for a future research paper (3). • 41. The Future of Tracking Devices If you have taken a high school biology course, you may have been exposed to the classic example of Darwinian evolution involving industrial melanism in the peppered moth Biston betularia. Melanism, which is the development of dark colored pigment, was observed in the peppered moth Biston betularia shortly after the industrial revolution. During the industrial revolution, pollutants killed the lichen on trees in many parts of Britain leaving them exposed to soot.1 This loss of lichen darkened the normally light trees, and because of this environmental change, the survival rates of two different peppered mothmorphs were altered. After the soot had appeared, the melanic carbonaria morph was believed to have a higher survival rate than the non melanic typica because birds would not be able to locate them on the darker trees as easily.2 In this system, birds are agents of selection because they determine which morph of moth survives at a higher rate. Henry Kettlewell produced evidence to support this in his mid twentieth century experiment where he conducted cage experiments to determine if melanismin moths played a role in predation by birds.6 Kettlewell found that moths that did not have coloration that matched their resting tree were more susceptible to being eaten.3 Since then, predation of the peppered moth by birds has been a classic example used to teach evolution. • 42. Tom Robinson Character Analysis In To Kill A Mockingbird the main conflict is the Tom Robinson case. Tom Robinson was accused of beating and raping Mayella Violet Ewell. The people of Maycomb see Tom in two different ways. There is the public view of Tom and the private view of him. The public view would include the people of Maycomb who do not know Tom at a personal level, while the private view would be his family, Calpurnia, and the other African Americans in the town of Maycomb. The public see Tom as a dangerous man. For instance in the book it states I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin on my Mayella (Lee 231)! Mayella even said that He got me round the neck, cussin me a sayin dirt I fought and hollered, but he had me round the neck. He hit me agin a agin (Lee 241). Both Mayella and Bob Ewell make the people in the court believe that Tom is some sort of killer or dangerous man who should be lynched. Even Scout thought that Tom Robinson s powerful shoulders rippled under his thin shirt (Lee 248). Tom was very built, and that did not help his case. Before Tom even gave his testimony most people in the court and jurybelieved he was guilty. Furthermore, The public view of Tom Robinson also includes that he is an abusive man that takes advantage of woman. Such as when Mayella said I got somethin to say a I ain t say no more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me (Lee 251). After she said this, Tom became known as a person who would hurt women in an appalling way. Another example is when Atticus says Miss Mayella, not to be tedious, you ve testified that the defendant hit you, grabbed you around the neck, choked you, and took advantage of you (Lee 248). Mayella states all of these facts in her testimony; making Tom look like a untrustworthy man. One part of her story states that she went in the house to get him the nickel and turned around an fore she knew it he was on her . (Lee 241) . Mayella makes the chance of Tom being innocent lower with her lies; Tom becomes a monster to the public view. On the other hand to some he is as innocent as a mockingbird. These people know the real Tom Robinson. They belive that Tom is a generous and a hardworking man. A quotation in the story that supports this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be the large animals that we know today. This increase in ice caused a shift in the concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is important to the scientific community because... Evaluation A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B) through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost, causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment. Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment.
