Jackson Pollock Summary Expressionism
Jackson Pollock was an influential American painter, and the main pressure in the back of the
abstract expressionist movement within the artwork global. Throughout his lifetime, Pollock
enjoyed massive repute and notoriety. Jackson Pollock s greatness lies in developing one of the
most radical summary patterns inside the records of contemporary artwork, detaching line from
colour, redefining the kinds of drawing and painting, and locating new method to explain pictorial
space. Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, LeRoy Pollock became a
farmer and later a land surveyor for the authorities. Jackson Pollock grew up in Arizona and Chico,
California. At some stage in his childhood, Pollock experienced native American... Show more

In August 1949, existence mag ran a characteristic tale posing the query: Jackson Pollock: Is he
the greatest residing painter in the america? The text turned into alternately mocking and
respectful. In 1951, at the peak of the artist s career, trend magazine published fashion images by
means of Cecil Beaton of fashions posing in front of Pollock s drip paintings. Even though this
industrial popularity signaled public popularity and became symptomatic of mass tradition s
inevitable expropriation of the avant garde Pollock continuously puzzled the course and
reception of his artwork. At the height of his reputation, Pollock all at once abandoned the drip
style. Pollock s work after 1951 became darker in color, inclusive of a set painted in black on
unprimed canvases. These artwork had been referred to as his Black pourings and whilst he
exhibited them on the Betty Parsons Gallery in the big apple, none of them sold. However later
Pollock moved to a more industrial gallery by using returning to the use of shade and figurative

Evolution Of Human Culture Developed Based On Our Environment
The earth is an ever evolving planet in the universe that has changed dramatically since the
beginning of time. Physically people have seen, measured, and recorded changes in land mass and
population growth in different parts of the world due to supply and demand of resources. Theories
such as the Pangea Theory or the Bering Strait theory have given insight into how humanculture
developed based on our environment. Through the study of history, people can see the course of the
human lineage as well. Human evolutionstarted with the phylogeny Hominoidea, a superfamily
that includes humans and all living apes. Out of Hominoidea, the earliest genus that exists today
is the genus Homo which is comprised of Homo sapiens that includes modern humans, as well as
several extinct species classified as ancestral to or closely related to modern humans. One the
earliest known hominids, a species that comes from the genus homo, is Homo habilis. What makes
Homo habilis special is that it was the first of the human species to have a notable increase in brain
size and be found with stone tools. Through an observation of Homo habilis, we can see large
similarities between humans within this common ancestors characteristics.
Homo habilis was discovered by Louis and Mary Leaky and their other coworkers Johnathan
Leaky, Philip Tobias, and British Scientist John Naiper, in 1960. They both believed that humanities
roots in Africa had been taken for granted and that people weren t

Substance And Substance Abuse Among Inmates
Substance Abuse among Inmates
Substance abuse can be a big problem in our criminal justice system when dealing with the
number of inmates who go back to their illegal activity after being released from custody. In
specific, inmates who are drug users/ abusers are to be expected to go back to drugs once they get
out. Without treatment they do not have the tools, knowledge, or resources to stay clean on the
outside when released. The biggest hazard for an ex inmate in the community is getting back to
their old life, old friends, old contacts, and old drugs. To understand why these substance abusers
are the way they are, there must be a clear emphasis on how these substances first evolved and
where they originally came from. Focusing on substance abuse among inmates at the federal and
state prison can be extremely different when in custody and the programs and treatment that is
provided in these prisons can really have a great effect on these offenders when being released
back into the community. Substance abuse can range from a small marijuana problem to a severe
heroin addiction. Substance abuse is defined as overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive
substance, especially alcohol or drugs. This is a huge issue in our society today and has been since
dated back to the earliest age of 1794 otherwise known as the 17th century. Alcohol was the first
substance that was allowed to be of consumption. Alcohol was the first substance that was

A Journal Of The Plague Year
A Journal of the Plague Year , is a novel written in first person, told by the protagonist H.F. It was
written by Daniel Defoe and speaks of the plague that occurred in London. This book was
published about 57 years after the plague occurred. This novel is a story of his experiences during
that plague that occurred in Londonin the year 1665. It is a fictional book but there is a lot of data,
statistics, and even government documents throughout the pages.
H.F. speaks on how the plague must have come to them from Holland. As the plague worsens
H.F. wonders if he should leave the city or not after the number of deaths starts to rise. The main
reason he does not want to leave is because he is a saddler and feels like he needs to stay and keep
up his shop. He knew that if he left he would lose his business and all he had worked for.
Throughout his story we gain and understanding of his observations and how he was seeing this
horrible plague affect his home. He notices that the rich are leaving the city while the poor have
no choice but to stay and try and fight for their lives. Once H.F. does decide to flee the city we
learn that things are not going to go as smoothly as he had hoped. H.F. had hoped to find a horse
to help flee the country with but there were not many left. He then decides to take a servant he
trusted along with him and they leave. His sisters; house in Lincolnshire is where he plans to go to.
He decides that they can camp out in the fields until they

The Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Before watching the debate, read through this section twice. The first time will give you the gist
of what is presented, while the second time will allow you to see if you can actually do as it
instructs.
In the world of debate, as in any other technical environment, specific terms are used to convey
vitally important meaning. Apologetic jargon is fairly self explanatory, with a few exceptions.
However, it is important to note that there are multiple styles of debate, and each of these styles has
specific language as well. In the high school debate circuit, for example, one may encounter
Lincoln Douglas Debate, which is philosophical in nature and includes fairly simple terminology.
One may also encounter Policy Debate, which is far more technical and adheres to a paradigm for
voting that includes stock issues like significance, inherency, topicality, and solvency.

That s all it is. However, it s far more complicated than it might seem. Many debaters will openly
admit that flowing is their least favorite aspect of debating, but they will probably also concede
that it is the practice that separates good debaters from great debaters. The good news is that good
flowing does not require an extraordinary genetic trait or an exceptionally skilled individual. Rather
it can be learned by anyone and then be further developed with time and practice.

Consider printing it off and having it near you while you watch the debate. You will still benefit
from creating your own flow, but it this template can be a great model for you to follow.
Remember, skills like this take practice. You will only improve as you practice and continue to use
this skill throughout your life.

Lending Tree Home Loans And Home Loan Lenders
Lending Tree portends to act as an online conciliator between individuals looking for home loans
and home loan lenders. The premise is that by connecting several lenders with the client, or rather
making several lenders aware of a potential customer, that the loan with the best interest rate will
rise to the top of the stack. Lending Tree claims to offer debtconsolidation and to lower one s
monthly interestrates. The company s advertising campaign seems to suggest that Lending Tree
will act as a negotiator for the client, urging banks to compete for your business. While this is
not exactly the case, using the site essentially amounts to shopping around for a better deal
which, of course, is better than buying on impulse. Lending Tree Home Loans takes your
information, including your financial goals, and runs a credit check. At this point the service
submits this information to a number of lenders. This is meant to create the impression that
banks are competing for your business, when in fact the client is only receiving basic service
offers from lenders who have been made aware of her or him by Lending Tree. Many customers
have had the experience of receiving offers from lenders during non business hours within minutes
of submitting their query. This is suspicious, as it seems clear that in these cases Lending Tree has
acted as little more than an advertising service for the lenders. This would mean that Lending Tree
s real clientele are the lending firms, who are

Afternoons by Philip Larkin Essays
Afternoons by Philip Larkin.
A poem which reflects on the subject of marriage is Afternoons by
Philip Larkin. The poem deals with Larkin s view on young mothers watching their kids playing in
a playground and on this he concludes that marrying young and having children young, lead to the
mothers losing their identity and destiny. The techniques used by the poet such as theme, imagery
and tone deepened my understanding of the issue. The structure of the poem is simple; there are
three stanzas with eight lines in each. However, unlike every other poem by Larkin this layout has
no direct meaning. The lines are unrhymed. The first stanza deals with Larkin s rather cynical view
of marriage and deals with the idea that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using the idea of wind in the poem, Larkin is able to add his own personal views. The wind
acts as an idea of change. This is continued moreover in the third stanza via the use of enjambement.
This enables
Larkin to carry on and develop his point.
Larkin s use of imagery is very effective. The courting places which were once used by the young
mothers are changing but so are their children. The courting places are still being used, however,
the people of whom should be using them now have the burden of children and can no longer have
the fun this place entails. The unripe acorns as described by Larkin, are the children who are still
in school .
This implies Larkin, as an outsider observing and looking in, believes that as generations pass
romance is lost further and that people have children far to young. The children within the school
are not mature enough to realise what courting means. A grim humour is assumed when the reader
realises these children still have a future wereas the young mothers do not.The tone of the poem has
become increasingly more cynical. Larkin refers to how regimented the mothers lives are again
when they are expected to pick up their children from school. The women have changed immensely
with the pressures and responsibilities that the child has brought, they are putting on weight and
losing their looks, probably due to having the children. Their beauty has thickened .

Joshua
Moses said to Joshua, Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I
will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands. Exodus 17:9
This is the first passage of scripture where you find Joshua. There is a law called the law of first
mention. The law of first mention is a principle that requires one to take a fraction of Scriptures
where a principle, expression, or act is mentioned for the first time, in the Bible, and to study the
first occurrence of this in order to get the fundamental inbuilt meaning of that principle, expression,
or act. When this law is applied the simple meaning usually goes before the complex. Throughout

The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment
In today s society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their
actions. Environmental issues are defined as problems that the planet s systems face due to
humans not treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as
someone throwing their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone
driving their car. The importance of this essay is to address these many issues that the Earth is
facing along with explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet
s systems are facing, are social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them.
Imus (2014), states Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma, autism, heart
disease, cancer, schizophrenia, migraines, and more (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth,
which is killing our environment and causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the
Earth is being treated very poorly. King (2013), states 1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the
ocean every year (p. 1). Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by
runoff; meaning that the trash is transported to the ocean by waterways. After the trash is
transported into the ocean, sea creatures are put in danger. According to the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), 64 percent of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not

Ethical Issues In The Free State Of Jones
The Free State of Jones is based on the true story of Newton Knight who was a nurse for the
confederate army during the American Civil War. The movie begins by showing a battle and
then Knight coming through and pulling out some of the wounded and taking them to a field
hospital. After we witness the gruesomeness of the war we are showed Knight s and other s
opinion on serving. Director Gary Ross does this by having soldiers discuss a new law that
states that if a man owns 20 or more slaves he is dismissed from duty to return and run his
plantation. Many of the soldiers are like Knight who is poor and cannot afford to own any
slaves. So, he is serving in a war for a side that victory would not benefit him. That same night
Knight s nephew Daniel showed up at camp. He is extremely young but since he is poor and
healthy he must serve. On Daniel s first day Newt accompanies him into battle. During the battle
Daniel is shot in the chest. Newt takes him back to the doctors where he is denied help because
they are only helping captains and officers due to the overwhelming amount of bodies. Daniel ends
up succumbing to his injuries and dies later that day. Following his... Show more content on

Some of the messages are clear while others are ambiguous. One the major topics that is addressed
by the movie is racism. It is clear how racism impacts this story but the real message involving race
is questionable. For example, the runaway slaves were just sitting in the swamp with no plan
how to improve their situation. However, once Knight shows up he is able to lead and turn the
situation around for them. The best symbol of this is when he removes the slave collar from
Moses neck. Moses had become content with his situation and was not concerned with removing
it but it takes Knight to remove it. This seems to be a symbol of blacks not being able to lead and

Women in the Hellenistic world
Women in the Hellenistic World Women s lives were improved and expanded in the Hellenistic
age more so than at any other time prior Greek history. Papyri from Egypt and Coele Syria have
led to the discovery of documents on marriage contracts, inscriptions of philanthropy, and the
daily lives of the women in that period. The Hellenistic woman changed in many ways. She
became more educated, more cultured, and she received domestic freedom and her new legal and
occupational advancements and a whole other myriad of news liberations. The ideal of the
Classical obedient Greek wife was turned upside down. She no longer had to be escorted to places

On an epitaph there is inscribed: This dust hides Archedice, daughter of Hippias, the most
important man in Greece in his day. But though her father, husband, brothers, and children were
tyrants, her mind was never carried away into arrogance. (Lefkowitz and Fant, 16) This inscription
from the 5th century BCE shows how some women were remembered for good deeds done and
not just their duties as homemakers. It also recognized the humane side of the Classical Greek
woman. Philosophers and philosophies were developed in the Hellenistic period that allowed
women to join schools of thought that expanded their freedom. Education became available for
an array of Greek women in this time. A little before the Hellenistic age came to be, the ideas of
the loosening of social constructs for women were taking place that led to the foundation of other
schools of thought such as that of Epicureanism and Cynicism. But these ideas came from a
couple of the Classical philosophers. One example of this is a discussion between Plato and
Glaucon. The topic of interest to these men was that of the education of women. The point that was
made was that since there are only a couple of distinctions between men and women, i.e. physical
attributes and things like pot making and bread making although really only social constructs that
forced women to be engaged in these services day in and day out that would have made them better

Spider Visual Analysis
My visual interpretation, I have decided to create a spider and the web as a center focus that

It weaves these invisible norms, just as a spider weaves an invisible web to trap their prey. I

spider are created by the dominant groups and influence the rest of the other words. For instance in
the inner circle pictures of a (gay stripper, a woman with dark brown eyes working and poor are

Mononucleosis Research Papers
Emma Johnston Ms. Phelps Health Period 5 October 12, 2016 Mononucleosis Infectious
Mononucleosis, commonly known as mono, is an infectious disease caused by the Epstein Barr
virus (EBV). The EBV virus causes an increase in lymphocytes (large white blood cells) in the
blood stream due to viral infection. Although scientists are not certain when the first case of
mono occurred, the most accurate record was written in 1889 by Dr. E. Pfeiffer. The term
Infectious Mononucleosis was first introduced in 1920 by British researchers Thomas P. Sprunt
and Frank A. Evans in replace of its original term Glandular Fever. By 1964, the Epstein Barr
virus was successfully identified and named by doctors M. Anthony Epstein and Ms. Yvonne
Barr. Mono s nickname The Kissing Disease comes from its ability to transfer by human contact
with saliva. This, however, is not particular to just kissing. Mono can be transferred through
anything that has touched the saliva of anyone infected by it. Things such as sharing chapstick or
lipstick, straws, utensils, or cups can transmit the virus. Even sneezing or coughing in a close
radius can transmit the disease via droplet. Mono is most common in people ages 15 25, and is at it
s prime during high school years. Cases of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fluids, and use a throat lozenge or gargle with salt water to sooth a sore throat. Nonsteroidal anti
inflammatory and analgesic drugs (such as Ibuprofen, Advil, and Tylenol) can be bought over
the counter as pain relievers and fever reducers. Mono symptoms usually die down at around 1 4
weeks, but the person may still be infected with the EBV virus for up to two months. However,
there is a small percentage of people whose immune systems are unable to completely fight off
mono. As a result, some people may develop CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) due to the EBV

The radio plays in the background while I look out the window at the scenery I see everyday on

Slit Drum History
The evolution of the drums has varied from being made from a simple wood log, to having a
hollow object covered in rawhide, to being completely electronic. Like any instrument, each one
produces a different sound. Some may sound light like a snare, deep like a bass, or metronomic by
simply producing a clicking noise to keep count. Some are completely electronic, even.
Starting from one of the oldest drums in the world, the slit drum is an instrument originating from
Africa that is made from a hollow piece of wood or carved from bamboo. They are typically
made with three slits, (hence the name slit drum ) each one producing a different tone. Like
most drums, slit drums can be played using rubber mallet or with the tips of your finger tips.
Unlike today, where we have telephones and social media to talk to one another long distantly,
this instrument was once, and probably still is, used as a form of communication. For war cries,
signaling, storytelling, and ceremonies. The djembe drum is made somewhat like the slit drum.
Made with a hardwood that is hollowed out, however, this drum is made with a piece of animal
hide covering the top of it. It is also a bit like the slit drum in a sense that it is mainly ... Show more

permission to cut down a tree to make it. After it is cut down, typically the wood is custom fitted

Classroom Management Plan
The first day of school is the most important day of the school year (Wong, 2009) . It is the day
where classroom rules and procedures are set in place and the students know what is expected from
them. An effective teacher will dedicate time in creating a classroom management plan in order to
help maintain appropriate behaviors of the students in the classroom. When classrooms aren t

The truth is that adolescents, despite occasional or numerous protests, need adults and want them to
be part of their lives, recognizing that they can nurture, teach, guide, and protect them on the
journey to adulthood (Association, 2002) .
Since adolescence in the fifth grade are developing their social and emotional skills, it is imperative
to use teaching strategies that promote healthy communications between students, and teachers.
Techniques that are easy to integrate into your everyday interactions with students that support the
discipline plan are: communicating positive expectations, correcting students in a positive way,
developing classroom pride, demonstrating caring, and preventing and reducing your own
frustration and stress (Boynton, 2005) . By following the mentioned techniques, I can envision a
classroom that will be self controlled, where students can take pride in knowing that they
contributed to the success of their education. Self control levels the playing field, and puts the keys

straight and narrow path of Christianity. A Righteous man, ridiculed, tortured, and finally burnt at
the stake for his faith, Faithful lives up to his name and is the martyr of The Pilgrim s Progress
the one who suffers and dies for what he believes in. Before Christian meets Faithful on the road
from the Palace Beautiful, Christian seems to be the only real pilgrim on the journey to the
Celestial City. The others pilgrims he has met on his journey (Formalist and Hypocrisy, Mr.
Worldly Wiseman, Mr. Pliable) have either abandoned the journey for its extreme struggles or for
being shown the hollowness of their faith. But Faithful is different unlike his friends he did not

Immigration Is A Foreign Policy Hot Topic
Immigration according to definitions online is the movement of people into a destination country
to which they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in order to settle or reside there,
especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens, or to take up employment as a migrant
worker or temporarily as a foreign worker. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas
become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration.
Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience.
Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration.
Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around
the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. One great
Philosopher, and the leader of the transcendentalist movement of the Mid 19th century; Ralph
Emerson saw it best. Emerson viewed immigration as a marvel that will build a new race, a new
religion, a new state, and a new literature in the United States (www.foreignpolicy infocus.org). The
idealism surrounding immigration clarifies in part the profound feelings immigration induces in the
public policy field. These feelings have shoved with anxieties about the economy, ethnic relations
and many other issues. In recent years, however, the discussion over immigration has prolonged to
integrate a wide array of foreign policy issues

He instilled a spirit of well being and created a company where 70% of its managerial staff was
recruited from hourly workers in the stores (ICMR 2003). Transferring this particular work culture
to foreign countries has been a struggle for local employees. Walmart Stores, Inc. has had to adjust
their company culture to transition more smoothly into certain markets. Walmart s rapid
international growth created a lack of quality management. Managers in foreign countries were
unable to speak the language of that particular country, therefore creating a swarm of problems. The
language barrier was not the only issue, cultural differences accounted for the majority of the issues.
It wasn t until the company chose to decentralize management authority from their headquarters to
their International division that each leader of their market was able to freely manage their
operations and merchandising (Zellner, Schidt, 2001). Walmart has attempted to recruit top
management for each market from the host country. For example, Rai Jain the Managing Director
and CEO of Walmart India is a native of India. However not all of the market leaders are from the
host country. An example would be Steve Dacus, an American who is the President and CEO of
Walmart Japan (Walmart.com). Organizational Structure In order to understand the success and
failure of Walmart Stores, Inc. in markets other than the United States, we

Strongest Electromagnet
Our period five class was given the challenge of which group could make the strongest
electromagnet out of the materials we were given. We propose that in order to build the strongest
electromagnet we should, use thick copper wire with a length of two meters, an iron nail, four
batteries and the temperature will be colder than room temperature. Based on the data we collected
in our trials, we believe the materials we use will create the strongest electromagnet. We first
propose using thick copper as the material we chose for wire type. We propose using thick copper
because, in the trials, the electromagnet with string wire could only hold 0 filings, the
electromagnet with aluminum material could hold 31 filings and the electromagnet with a copper
wire could hold 83 pieces of filing. The pattern shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We did not get to test the material for the ferromagnet, but according to an article written by
www.irm.umn.edu, However, the versatility of iron carbon alloys cannot be matched in any
other material. We also propose to use two meters of thick copper rather than one meter. The
more material you have the more coils you will have around the ferromagnet. When we tested
the number of coils around a ferromagnet, we found that no coils held 0 filings, fifty coils held
83 filings but 100 coils could hold 167 filings. Therefore the more wire you have, the more times
you can coil the ferromagnet, which can make the strongest electromagnet. Next, we propose to
use four batteries as our power source rather than using three, two, or one battery. When we tested
the number of batteries, we found that one battery held 14 paper clips, two batteries held 19 paper
clips, but 3 batteries could hold 24 paper clips. Although we did not test using four batteries, we
could predict by using proportions that 4 batteries could hold about 32 paperclips. The pattern
shows that more batteries make a stronger

Although the code of ethics are guidelines, workers must be able to use judgement and ethical
reasoning. There are standards and ethical codes in each of he codes of ethics listed. For example,
the NASW s Code of Ethics (2008) emphasizes the potential risk or potential harm to clients:
Social workers should not engage in dual or multiple relationships with clients or former clients in
which there is a risk of exploitation or potential harm to the client. In instances when dual or
multiple relationships are unavoidable, social workers should take steps to protect clients and are
responsible for setting clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries. (Dual or multiple
relationships occur when social workers relate to clients in more than one relationship, whether
professional, social, or business. Dual or multiple relationships can occur simultaneously or

Downtown Massillon
On October 14 I attended a New Wave concert in Downtown Massillon. This concert was actually
apart of a larger event called the Massillon Zombie Walk which is held once a year. Most
everyone dressed as a zombie. There was even a man who dressed as a Soviet spy zombie who
made my night. He walked down the sidewalk with an accordion, a hammer and sickle pin, and a
giant fur hat. Other zombies swarmed around him as I realized that I m pretty lucky to live in an
area that treasures local gatherings and celebrations.
The night began with a Thriller performance in front of the Massillon public library. About 20 or
so people performed the iconic dance as Michael Jackson s audio was played. The people who
performed managed to do a really good job recreating the dance moves we all know so well and
they looked like they had fun. The party moved down to the street beside the Massillon Museum
where the stage was waiting. After we arrived New Wave Nation ran onto the stage and performed
Thriller again. Sadly the lead singer of this band could not match MJ s awesome chops. It was
cringe. All the high notes sounded fuzzy and strained. The tempo seemed too slow. There was a tv
screen behind them that actually played the music video which managed to make their dancers
incompetent. Weird sound effects were added to the end of phrases and instruments were played
along with the original audio.
I hoped with all my heart that they just hadn t warmed up, that it would get better but this was not

Saginaw Police Investigation
A Day in the Life of a Police Officer
For my ethnographic essay I chose to study the life of police officers who work in the City of
Saginaw. Today s society is consumed by false statements and false social media articles. There are
thousands of articles, television commercials, and websites about police brutality, race problems,
and rarely seeing anything good about police officers. Lately it seems as though society is more
concerned about police brutality than actual positive affects police officers have on society. With
all of the things you hear on social media, and fake Facebook articles there are many different
things that need to be taken into consideration. What are the positive affects police officers have on

Feminist Feminism
The women that march around burning bras, hating men, and denying to shave their body hair.
A perfect definition for a feminist, right? Wrong. If you do not agree with feminism, it could
possibly be because everything you know about it is wrong. According to a poll conducted by
PerryUndem in 2015, a research and communications firm, 85 percent of Americans believe in
equality for women. Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist. Evidently, it is a
belief that is wildly misunderstood and learning more about it could change one s perception of
the world completely. The basic assumption shared by all feminists is that women suffer certain
injustices on account of their sex. Feminists stress the importance of gender divisions in society
and it simply portrays these divisions as working to the overall advantage of men. Although
feminists are united with their common desire for sexual justice and their concern for women s
welfare, there is a range spectrum of feminist views that many are uneducated on. Many do not
know that anyone can be a feminist regardless of age, religion, or gender.
A common misconception about feminism is that it is strictly for a certain type of person. Myths
about feminists include the standards that being feminists means being homosexual women who
hate men, which is so far from the truth. Though many men, and even some women deny the fact
that they are a feminist because of this, it is because they have their own false perceptions on

What To Sacrifice Research Paper
To sacrifice is to give up something important for something even better, which may cause pain;
but, in the end, it will be totally worth it. I have witnessed my own friends performing such a
damaging act that hurt me as individual, mentally, and has made me begin to struggle in daily
activities. I have allowed myself to become stressed out, ignore the healthier relationships in my
life, and have noticed a great decrease in my self esteem. However, I have learned that these
problems were or can be created due to the reaction and response I express. This reaction has
both hurt me and helped me build as an individual. Some people respond by getting revenge on
the other person, which ends up making him or her just as disrespectful as the other; while I have
realized it is better to forgive rather than hold a grudge. I also have realized forgiving someone

Examples Of Sadism In The Bloody Chamber

castle, at home neither on the land nor on the water, a mysterious, amphibious place (Carter13) filled

Bloody Chamber unleashes his animal instincts.
The sadistic villian, whose name recalls Marquis de Sade, the father of sadism, is modeled after the

How Greek And Roman Culture Changed Over Time Essay
Greek and Roman archeology changed over time in regards to how individuals were recognized.
The political state of the regions within both cultures altered the representation of individuals.
Greek ideals about representing people and members of society The Greek idea of the personal
and the political evolved from an ideal glorying the city, less than the individual to highlighting the
strength of the individuals. Athens is the best source of evidence in terms of archaeological and
literary to identify how the societies were shaped. Athens was a place of democracy so during this

Both the Greeks and Romans admired Alexander the Great. The Greeks had busts and portraits
of Alexander. The Romans also very much so revered Alexander and his military success and
had many literature symbols of him. As Greek art changed over time due to the political
progression, there was a similar highlight of ruler s power that was evident in Roman art. This is
similar to in class, how we saw that often the leaders were represented in art to be related to gods
and god like to give their presence even more power. I find it quite interesting of how the Greeks in
the early time prided on the civic presence more then the individual, which actually highlights their
selfness nature. This change in art form is important for architecture as it shows the influence
politics on the value of the self in society and the civic duty associated during that specific culture.
This ties into today s society and shows political influence on art and culture. In North Korea, Kim
Jong Un, values art that highlights himself and his families omnipotence, as he is the leader of the

showcasing individualistic talent. Politics in the past or present, influences culture in many ways

The Outsiders By Francis Coppola
The Outsiders a film directed by Francis Coppola s is about two social groups of teenagers who
attends the same high school and live in the same town. Although both two social groups live in
the same area, they live a completely different life. A group known as the South Side Socials
(aka socs ), are the upper class teenagers, while the Greasers, are the less fortunate kids, who just
so happen to live on the wrong side of town. These two social groups have had a conflict against
one another for several years, but on one specific evening, this rivalry turns deadly as one of the
greasers, Johnny, stabs and murders a socs. Due to the passing of one of the Socs, the Socs tried
to avenge the death of their friend, while the greasers tried to get the town to comprehend that
the Socs were also at fault during that conflict. The Outsider is an exceptional film depicting
how social groups can explain our behavior, and how deviance and crime are observed in relation
to our social group. A social group is defined as a group of two or more people who interact
frequently with one another, shares a portion sense of belonging and have a sensation of
interdependence. As seen in the film, both the Socs and the greasers care deeply for each

Literary Sources From Online On Climate Change
Methodology
There were three major steps to our research. We gathered literary sources on climactic trends,
spoke to stakeholders, and then created maps to show our findings.
As a result of the fact Smith College does not have a plan on how to prepare in response to
changes in climate, and that most data which is readily available to the public focuses on large
scale climate change information, the project focused on presenting information specific to Smith
College in a way which would be accessible to the Climate Change Study Group which was formed
in the fall of 2015 as well as anyone else that wished to understand the impacts of climate change
that may happen.
To begin the project, literary sources from online on climate change were first explored. The group
met to work with Rocco Piccinino from the Smith College Young Library who helped in identifying
the best ways to use online data bases to find information. Three articles came to the forefront for
use as a result of the detailed information which the articles had on climate change as well as the
specialized information relating to the region. These articles were the National Climate
Assessment, NRDC Climate Change, and The Northeast Environmental Impact Assessment. With
the completion of the initial reading of these articles the pieces were then broken down in an
attempt to find specific information relating to specific climate impacts. Each member of the group
highlighted five or more pieces of information from the

This course has impacted me tremendously. Many pre conceived notions of missions and
methodology of fulfilling the Great commission have changed. The Great Commission, found in
Matthew 28:16 20 contain Jesus final words to His disciples. He told them, Therefore, go and
make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the
Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of
this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Before taking this course, I never understood
the concept of the nations being people groups. I always thought of them as geo political divisions.
I can actually perceive many different people groups in my neighborhood, and now understand that
even though they live in America, they do not relate the same way as other Americans. This is due
to their cultural and ethnical background among other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My wife places exchange students in homes, and they have monthly activities. I plan to invest in
them, not just as the husband of their coordinator, but on a personal level. When Melody Harper,
in her lecture, Becoming a World Christian, mentioned that there are approximately 760,000
international students and that many of them don t get to know an American family, my heart
broke. We have hosted a student a couple times. Unfortunately, we are not in a place financially
to host a student right now, but as I said, I can be involved in a small way with some of the
students. Ms. Harper stated, God is bringing the nations here. I would agree. Since Colonial
times, America has been a melting pot of cultures. It is time to leverage that for the Kingdom.
Of course we should go if we feel God s prompting to travel halfway around the world, Ms. Harper

PHIL 101 Introduction to Philosophy
Final Essay
Topic: Compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, as
outlined in Chapter 4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions? Which
one do you believe is the most likely to be correct? Why?
In the Philosophy, Determinism has many different categories. Actually according to the textbook,
the Determinism is the view that every event, including human actions, are brought about by
previous events in accordance with the natural laws that govern the world. Human freedom is an
illusion. Jewish philosopher Baruch Spinoza does not deny that people s wishes and desires will
lead to the soul, and he said, but neglected one important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Human factors are involved wildly in human behaviors and various social systems, including
social laws and religion doctrines. Just like what I mentioned previously, scientists believe that the
human life is pre determined and human s behavior is inevitable. They consider that if someone
has all the information of one person, he or she may get to know how he or she is going to
change in advance. But from the point of view throughout the history of human society people
often turn to emphasize personal responsibility. Law and legal penalties for criminals act based
entirely on the idea of individual free will . Most Jewish and Christian also believed that individuals
should be responsible for the crime and suspects should be punished. We can imagine a psychology
professor who believes determinism would say to a student: You have to concentrate to your study,
otherwise you will get nothing! You can see the contradiction of human behaviors from this typical
and ironic statement above, and notice that there exists a deviation between theoretical knowledge
and actual human behaviors.
At the same time, the Libertarians believe that people have free will , and there are no such
inevitable results of those behaviors that are controlled by free will . Libertarianism has different
meanings in different academic fields. From the general level, the libertarianism refers to people s
ability to decide whether or not to do something according to their

Hart Crane s Influence On Make It New
Among the innumerable modernist poets that successfully encompass Ezra Pound s slogan,
Make It New, Hart Crane best embodies this mindset with his innovative poetry. However, Make
It New does not imply that the ideas must be completely original. Very well read, Crane and his
poetry were influenced by many, ranging from foreign writers, such as William Shakespeare and
Charles Baudelaire, to other writers of his time, such as T.S. Eliot. By merging already recognized
ideas of renowned writers along with his own creativity, Crane conveys a sense of familiarity,
allowing readers to grasp onto traces of acquainted aspects as they attempt to make sense of his
otherwise profound poetry. While borrowing others ideas may seem far from innovative,... Show

To Brooklyn Bridge was directly inspired by T.S. Eliot s The Wasteland and Walt Whitman s
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, but the poem itself does not contain words or phrases that directly
correlate to those specific poets and their respective poems. Instead, the overall atmosphere of
the poem may remind readers of Eliot and Whitman. First of all, once again according to the
anthology, To Brooklyn Bridge is a hopeful reply to The Wasteland, where Eliot writes of a
fractured world, a perspective Crane shares, but his response paints a more optimistic picture.
Crane accomplishes this by using the Brooklyn Bridge as its prime symbol... to restore meaning
and unity to a fragmented and dissonant modern world (Axelrod 626). The Bridge is a manmade
effort that is capable of connecting the fragmented world. This hope is also reminiscent of Whitman
s ideas of an idealistic and unified America. Yet, a more significant influence from Whitman is the
theme of repressed homosexuality that is present in the poem. With both poets being homosexual, it
is no surprise that Crane was influenced by Whitman. The second to last stanza

Persuasive Essay On Becoming A Knight
A knight is a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor. They were well
trained fighters, knights were military retainers, often of humble means, but defined by their
military vocation and their ability rather than any lineages ( Richard). They surfaced in the Middle
Ages because it was a time when Lords needed protections along with their territories. To become a
knightwas not easy there were many steps towards fulfilling knighthood. Not only did it take years
of training to become a knight, but it also took bravery, courtesy, and honor known as chivalry and
courtly love. A man without those qualities did not have what it takes to play this role. Knights of
the Middle Ageswere first and premier warriors who fought from horseback, wore body covering
armor, and used weapons such as swords and daggers to fight and protect in battle. There were
five steps to knighthood, becoming a knight took years of training, during which a young man
learned how to fight, ride, and behave in proper, knightley manner (Corrick 29). The first step to
becoming a knight was having the right connections because it was very expensive to buy all the
equipment necessary in protecting himself on the battlefield. That being said a knight usually
came from a noble or wealthy family. The upbringing is the second step, if a boy came from the
right family and had the ambition to be a knight by the age of seven he would have to learn all
basic manners and what the role of a

Materialism In The Necklace And The Gift Of The Magi
We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give (Winston Churchill). While
money is necessary, an abundance isn t required to be happy. Attaining happiness comes through
serving others. The Necklace and The Gift of the Magi share a valuable lesson about materialism.
However, both stories have a different outlook. In The Necklace, Madame Loisel s materialism is
selfishness. In The Gift of The Magi, Della and Jim s materialism selflessness. The placing of
value on materialistic goods can end up positively or negatively impacting one s life. In The
Necklace by Guy de Maupassant the only thing that seems to make Loisel happy are things that
money can buy. Unlike in the Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, Della learns that the... Show more

Applying Two Kinds Of A Spherically Symmetric...
In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a)
type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the
same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius,
r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes
depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects.
Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core
region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1.
For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the
valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i,
E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. E_c^i and E_v^i denote the bulk band edges of each
nanoheterostructure compound including strain effect. In this paper, the index i=1,2,3 refers to
the CdSe region (1), CdTe region (2) and the external medium (3), c(v) holds for conduction
(valence) band and e(h) holds for electron (hole). E_g and V_(e(h)) are the bulk gap energy and
the electron (hole) confining potential of strained hetero nanocrystal, respectively. In Fig 1, Оµ_1,
Оµ_2 and Оµ_3 are dielectric constants of core, shell and external medium, respectively. For
simplicity, we assume that the potential outside each kind of nanocrystal is

Review of Techniques of The Others Essay
Review of Techniques of The Others The Others is a horror thriller set in a Victorian mansion on
the British Isle of Jersey in 1945. The filmstars Nichole Kidman as Grace, a mother who isolates

Introducing the mansion, a long distance shot is used. This gives a clear view of the front of the
mansion and its immediate surroundings giving the audience a full picture of where the film is set.
The effect of lifeless immobility created by the camera s stillness makes the audience relaxed
adding shock to the effect of the scream that quickly proceeds in shot 2.
Unnatural silence creates a bizarre atmosphere that puts the audience in an uncomfortable position
from the infinite background sound in everyday life. The effect prepares the audience for
something to happen and builds up tension. Creepy silence continues in shot 2 until Grace
traumatically screams, this is followed by unexpected laughter.
First, shot 2 opens with a close up shot on Graces face with several seconds silence to add tension
for the scream later on. The close up shot does not allow us to see where the action is taking place
initially because the lighting casts shadows and distorts the character s facial features. This baffles
the audience making it very successful.
Introducing Grace the director uses a close up shot on Grace s face. This emphasises the scream
and enhances the information provided by allowing us to follow her rapidly changing facial
expressions. This is powerful since the audience become more involved as they see what Grace is
going through and become

Consumer Culture And Economic Development Of Western Cultures
Consumer Culture is at the root of all social, political and economic development of western
cultures for the past three hundred years. Advertisements become a key role in creating ideological
messages and meanings. In a consumer culture and capitalist economy, advertisement becomes a
tool used by corporations to influence the minds of the buyer. When a company produces an ad or
commercial, their main objective is to get the viewers attention in order to sell the product. Many
different methods are used to lure an audience in; tactics may include print or commercial ads, to
either inform or to target individuals into consuming goods. There have been constant debates
surrounding females in advertisements and the ways in which women are defined through their
constructed identities. Society plays a heavy hand in constructing individuals gender roles, and in
turn many of our identities. Women during the 1950s and onwards have been a byproduct in
advertisingcampaigns, their roles were limited and became repetitive overtime. A women s identity
was constructed towards the ability to maintain a household, women were only ever viewed as
housewives, through the multiple advertisements that conveyed images of what it meant to be a
well rounded caregiver, it became the only thing that was ever taught to them. Shirley Chisholm is

The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me
A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character
of a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the
dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most
terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to
the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To
maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not
respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing
was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued
shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical
self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking.
As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom.
When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so
intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no
one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly
downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like she was demonized. Afraid
for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by some supernatural

Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Has Come A Long Way Over The
Therapeutic nuclear medicine has come a long way over the last decade. More than 20 million
Americans now benefit each year from nuclear medicine procedures used to diagnose and treat a
wide variety of diseases (SNMMI and Safe/Beneficial Medical Uses of Radiation, 2017).
This type of therapy is often used as a means to treat hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, bone
metastases from prostate and breast tumors, as well as other types of cancer and diseases. It can be
used alone or in combination with other therapeutic means of medicine, such as surgery or
chemotherapy. Radiation therapy is used in the treatment of approximately 40% to 60% of patients
who are diagnosed with cancer (Errors in Radiation Therapy, 2009). In many cases, the... Show

This treatment may be very aggressive but, when it comes to cancer, being thorough is of utmost
importance.
Therapeutic nuclear medicine is used in many different ways to help and treat patients when they
are fighting cancer or other diseases. Doctors will take the steps to do whatever they can to make
sure that the patient will survive or at least achieve improvement in their health to some degree.
When a patient is undergoing surgery to remove the cancer cells, the doctors will often have them
go through radiation beforehand to shrink the cancer or tumor down to a size that is easier to
remove and to ensure they are not removing more than necessary. Often during surgery, the
surgeons will again treat the patient with radiation while they are open so that the radiation is
hitting the direct tumor or cancer cells being targeted. Another benefit is that it provides the
radiation treatment without having to direct it through the skin again. This reduces the amount of
radiation that the patient is getting to a certain degree. Once the surgery is over, the patient will
often have to continue with more treatments to make sure that, if anything was missed, it will be
attacked by the radiation and be prevented from spreading. Eliminating the cancerous cells can
often take more than one type of medical therapy, and it can often take multiple treatments

By increasing the number of observers in the study/field activities, this approach allows a greater
survey effort. Through empowerment, the approach can produce high‐level conservation

Disadvantages of participatory monitoring (Ancrenaz et al. 2012):
It requires time to initiate a strong capacity building process over a long and continuous period of
time As monitoring is difficult to standardize completely, participatory monitoring is often less
accurate and results can be difficult to compare. Fortunately, camera trapping is can be standardized
more easily than many other monitoring methods. Pragmatically, local communities need to be
involved at all phases of a project (design, planning and implementation) to achieve significant
results (Borrini‐Feyerabend et al., 2004; Berkes, 2004; Ancrenaz et al., 2007).
Some crucial factors that will determine the success or failure of a monitoring program will include

  • 2. Jackson Pollock Summary Expressionism Jackson Pollock was an influential American painter, and the main pressure in the back of the abstract expressionist movement within the artwork global. Throughout his lifetime, Pollock enjoyed massive repute and notoriety. Jackson Pollock s greatness lies in developing one of the most radical summary patterns inside the records of contemporary artwork, detaching line from colour, redefining the kinds of drawing and painting, and locating new method to explain pictorial space. Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, LeRoy Pollock became a farmer and later a land surveyor for the authorities. Jackson Pollock grew up in Arizona and Chico, California. At some stage in his childhood, Pollock experienced native American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In August 1949, existence mag ran a characteristic tale posing the query: Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest residing painter in the america? The text turned into alternately mocking and respectful. In 1951, at the peak of the artist s career, trend magazine published fashion images by means of Cecil Beaton of fashions posing in front of Pollock s drip paintings. Even though this industrial popularity signaled public popularity and became symptomatic of mass tradition s inevitable expropriation of the avant garde Pollock continuously puzzled the course and reception of his artwork. At the height of his reputation, Pollock all at once abandoned the drip style. Pollock s work after 1951 became darker in color, inclusive of a set painted in black on unprimed canvases. • 3. Evolution Of Human Culture Developed Based On Our Environment The earth is an ever evolving planet in the universe that has changed dramatically since the beginning of time. Physically people have seen, measured, and recorded changes in land mass and population growth in different parts of the world due to supply and demand of resources. Theories such as the Pangea Theory or the Bering Strait theory have given insight into how humanculture developed based on our environment. Through the study of history, people can see the course of the human lineage as well. Human evolutionstarted with the phylogeny Hominoidea, a superfamily that includes humans and all living apes. Out of Hominoidea, the earliest genus that exists today is the genus Homo which is comprised of Homo sapiens that includes modern humans, as well as several extinct species classified as ancestral to or closely related to modern humans. One the earliest known hominids, a species that comes from the genus homo, is Homo habilis. What makes Homo habilis special is that it was the first of the human species to have a notable increase in brain size and be found with stone tools. Through an observation of Homo habilis, we can see large similarities between humans within this common ancestors characteristics. Homo habilis was discovered by Louis and Mary Leaky and their other coworkers Johnathan Leaky, Philip Tobias, and British Scientist John Naiper, in 1960. They both believed that humanities roots in Africa had been taken for granted and that people weren t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Substance And Substance Abuse Among Inmates Substance Abuse among Inmates Substance abuse can be a big problem in our criminal justice system when dealing with the number of inmates who go back to their illegal activity after being released from custody. In specific, inmates who are drug users/ abusers are to be expected to go back to drugs once they get out. Without treatment they do not have the tools, knowledge, or resources to stay clean on the outside when released. The biggest hazard for an ex inmate in the community is getting back to their old life, old friends, old contacts, and old drugs. To understand why these substance abusers are the way they are, there must be a clear emphasis on how these substances first evolved and where they originally came from. Focusing on substance abuse among inmates at the federal and state prison can be extremely different when in custody and the programs and treatment that is provided in these prisons can really have a great effect on these offenders when being released back into the community. Substance abuse can range from a small marijuana problem to a severe heroin addiction. Substance abuse is defined as overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or drugs. This is a huge issue in our society today and has been since dated back to the earliest age of 1794 otherwise known as the 17th century. Alcohol was the first substance that was allowed to be of consumption. Alcohol was the first substance that was represented in American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Lincoln-Douglas Debate Before watching the debate, read through this section twice. The first time will give you the gist of what is presented, while the second time will allow you to see if you can actually do as it instructs. In the world of debate, as in any other technical environment, specific terms are used to convey vitally important meaning. Apologetic jargon is fairly self explanatory, with a few exceptions. However, it is important to note that there are multiple styles of debate, and each of these styles has specific language as well. In the high school debate circuit, for example, one may encounter Lincoln Douglas Debate, which is philosophical in nature and includes fairly simple terminology. One may also encounter Policy Debate, which is far more technical and adheres to a paradigm for voting that includes stock issues like significance, inherency, topicality, and solvency. The ... Many debaters will openly admit that flowing is their least favorite aspect of debating, but they will probably also concede that it is the practice that separates good debaters from great debaters. The good news is that good flowing does not require an extraordinary genetic trait or an exceptionally skilled individual. • 7. Lending Tree Home Loans And Home Loan Lenders Lending Tree portends to act as an online conciliator between individuals looking for home loans and home loan lenders. The premise is that by connecting several lenders with the client, or rather making several lenders aware of a potential customer, that the loan with the best interest rate will rise to the top of the stack. Lending Tree claims to offer debtconsolidation and to lower one s monthly interestrates. The company s advertising campaign seems to suggest that Lending Tree will act as a negotiator for the client, urging banks to compete for your business. While this is not exactly the case, using the site essentially amounts to shopping around for a better deal which, of course, is better than buying on impulse. Lending Tree Home Loans takes your information, including your financial goals, and runs a credit check. At this point the service submits this information to a number of lenders. This is meant to create the impression that banks are competing for your business, when in fact the client is only receiving basic service offers from lenders who have been made aware of her or him by Lending Tree. Many customers have had the experience of receiving offers from lenders during non business hours within minutes of submitting their query. This is suspicious, as it seems clear that in these cases Lending Tree has acted as little more than an advertising service for the lenders. This would mean that Lending Tree s real clientele are the lending firms, who are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Afternoons by Philip Larkin Essays Afternoons by Philip Larkin. A poem which reflects on the subject of marriage is Afternoons by Philip Larkin. The poem deals with Larkin s view on young mothers watching their kids playing in a playground and on this he concludes that marrying young and having children young, lead to the mothers losing their identity and destiny. The techniques used by the poet such as theme, imagery and tone deepened my understanding of the issue. The structure of the poem is simple; there are three stanzas with eight lines in each. However, unlike every other poem by Larkin this layout has no direct meaning. The lines are unrhymed. The first stanza deals with Larkin s rather cynical view of marriage and deals with the idea that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using the idea of wind in the poem, Larkin is able to add his own personal views. The wind acts as an idea of change. This is continued moreover in the third stanza via the use of enjambement. This enables Larkin to carry on and develop his point. Larkin s use of imagery is very effective. The courting places which were once used by the young mothers are changing but so are their children. The courting places are still being used, however, the people of whom should be using them now have the burden of children and can no longer have the fun this place entails. The unripe acorns as described by Larkin, are the children who are still in school . This implies Larkin, as an outsider observing and looking in, believes that as generations pass romance is lost further and that people have children far to young. The children within the school are not mature enough to realise what courting means. A grim humour is assumed when the reader realises these children still have a future wereas the young mothers do not.The tone of the poem has become increasingly more cynical. Larkin refers to how regimented the mothers lives are again when they are expected to pick up their children from school. The women have changed immensely with the pressures and responsibilities that the child has brought, they are putting on weight and losing their looks, probably due to having the children. Their beauty has thickened . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exodus 17:9 This is the first passage of scripture where you find Joshua. There is a law called the law of first mention. The law of first mention is a principle that requires one to take a fraction of Scriptures where a principle, expression, or act is mentioned for the first time, in the Bible, and to study the first occurrence of this in order to get the fundamental inbuilt meaning of that principle, expression, or act. • 10. The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment In today s society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their actions. Environmental issues are defined as problems that the planet s systems face due to humans not treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as someone throwing their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone driving their car. The importance of this essay is to address these many issues that the Earth is facing along with explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet s systems are facing, are social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them. Imus (2014), states Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma, autism, heart disease, cancer, schizophrenia, migraines, and more (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth, which is killing our environment and causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the Earth is being treated very poorly. King (2013), states 1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year (p. 1). Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by runoff; meaning that the trash is transported to the ocean by waterways. After the trash is transported into the ocean, sea creatures are put in danger. The movie begins by showing a battle and then Knight coming through and pulling out some of the wounded and taking them to a field hospital. After we witness the gruesomeness of the war we are showed Knight s and other s opinion on serving. Director Gary Ross does this by having soldiers discuss a new law that states that if a man owns 20 or more slaves he is dismissed from duty to return and run his plantation. Many of the soldiers are like Knight who is poor and cannot afford to own any slaves. So, he is serving in a war for a side that victory would not benefit him. That same night Knight s nephew Daniel showed up at camp. He is extremely young but since he is poor and healthy he must serve. On Daniel s first day Newt accompanies him into battle. Essay on Women in Egypt Women in the Hellenistic world Women in the Hellenistic World Women s lives were improved and expanded in the Hellenistic age more so than at any other time prior Greek history. Papyri from Egypt and Coele Syria have led to the discovery of documents on marriage contracts, inscriptions of philanthropy, and the daily lives of the women in that period. The Hellenistic woman changed in many ways. She became more educated, more cultured, and she received domestic freedom and her new legal and occupational advancements and a whole other myriad of news liberations. The ideal of the Classical obedient Greek wife was turned upside down. She no longer had to be escorted to places outside her home and to issue legal documents. She also could now ... But though her father, husband, brothers, and children were tyrants, her mind was never carried away into arrogance. (Lefkowitz and Fant, 16) This inscription from the 5th century BCE shows how some women were remembered for good deeds done and not just their duties as homemakers. It also recognized the humane side of the Classical Greek woman. Philosophers and philosophies were developed in the Hellenistic period that allowed women to join schools of thought that expanded their freedom. Education became available for an array of Greek women in this time. A little before the Hellenistic age came to be, the ideas of the loosening of social constructs for women were taking place that led to the foundation of other schools of thought such as that of Epicureanism and Cynicism. But these ideas came from a couple of the Classical philosophers. One example of this is a discussion between Plato and Glaucon. The topic of interest to these men was that of the education of women. The point that was made was that since there are only a couple of distinctions between men and women, i.e. physical attributes and things like pot making and bread making although really only social constructs that forced women to be engaged in these services day in and day out that would have made them better then men at those ... • 14. Mononucleosis Research Papers Emma Johnston Ms. Phelps Health Period 5 October 12, 2016 Mononucleosis Infectious Mononucleosis, commonly known as mono, is an infectious disease caused by the Epstein Barr virus (EBV). The EBV virus causes an increase in lymphocytes (large white blood cells) in the blood stream due to viral infection. Although scientists are not certain when the first case of mono occurred, the most accurate record was written in 1889 by Dr. E. Pfeiffer. The term Infectious Mononucleosis was first introduced in 1920 by British researchers Thomas P. Sprunt and Frank A. Evans in replace of its original term Glandular Fever. By 1964, the Epstein Barr virus was successfully identified and named by doctors M. Anthony Epstein and Ms. Yvonne Barr. Mono s nickname The Kissing Disease comes from its ability to transfer by human contact with saliva. This, however, is not particular to just kissing. Mono can be transferred through anything that has touched the saliva of anyone infected by it. Things such as sharing chapstick or lipstick, straws, utensils, or cups can transmit the virus. Even sneezing or coughing in a close radius can transmit the disease via droplet. Mono is most common in people ages 15 25, and is at it s prime during high school years. Cases of... Like any instrument, each one produces a different sound. Some may sound light like a snare, deep like a bass, or metronomic by simply producing a clicking noise to keep count. Some are completely electronic, even. Starting from one of the oldest drums in the world, the slit drum is an instrument originating from Africa that is made from a hollow piece of wood or carved from bamboo. They are typically made with three slits, (hence the name slit drum ) each one producing a different tone. However, in order to understand why immigrationhas become a foreign policy hot topic, we must understand the history of immigration. Since the initial settlers arrived in North America, immigration has filled the American experience. Undeniably, many of the principles that unite Americans as a nation are tied to immigration. Historically, immigration has not only outlined our visualization of the United States role around the world, but immigration has also trickled into our interpretation of human nature. One great Philosopher, and the leader of the transcendentalist movement of the Mid 19th century; Ralph Emerson saw it best. Emerson viewed immigration as a marvel that will build a new race, a new religion, a new state, and a new literature in the United States (www.foreignpolicy infocus.org). But from the point of view throughout the history of human society people often turn to emphasize personal responsibility. They surfaced in the Middle Ages because it was a time when Lords needed protections along with their territories. To become a knightwas not easy there were many steps towards fulfilling knighthood. Not only did it take years of training to become a knight, but it also took bravery, courtesy, and honor known as chivalry and courtly love. A man without those qualities did not have what it takes to play this role. There were five steps to knighthood, becoming a knight took years of training, during which a young man learned how to fight, ride, and behave in proper, knightley manner (Corrick 29). The first step to becoming a knight was having the right connections because it was very expensive to buy all the equipment necessary in protecting himself on the battlefield. In this work, we consider two kinds of a spherically symmetric semiconductor quantum dots: (a) type I single quantum dot (SQD) with radius r_1, in which electrons and holes are confined in the same region of space, and (b) type II core/shell quantum dot (CCQD) with the same core radius, r_1, coated with shell thickness t=r_2 r_1, in which the spatial confinement of electrons and holes depends strongly on the geometrical parameters (core radius and shell thickness) and strain effects. Due to the potential structure of CdSe/CdTe CCQD, electrons mainly reside in the CdSe core region, while the holes dwell mainly in the CdTe shell region. This separation is shown in Fig. 1. For clarity, we designate the band gap energy, the conduction band minimum (CBM) and the valence bandmaximum (VBM) of bulk semiconductormaterials in the unstrained case by E_g0^i, E_c0^i and E_v0^i, respectively. • 51. The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character of a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking. As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom. When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like she was demonized. Afraid for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by some supernatural ... • 52. Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Has Come A Long Way Over The Therapeutic nuclear medicine has come a long way over the last decade. More than 20 million Americans now benefit each year from nuclear medicine procedures used to diagnose and treat a wide variety of diseases (SNMMI and Safe/Beneficial Medical Uses of Radiation, 2017). This type of therapy is often used as a means to treat hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, bone metastases from prostate and breast tumors, as well as other types of cancer and diseases. It can be used alone or in combination with other therapeutic means of medicine, such as surgery or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy is used in the treatment of approximately 40% to 60% of patients who are diagnosed with cancer (Errors in Radiation Therapy, 2009). In many cases, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This treatment may be very aggressive but, when it comes to cancer, being thorough is of utmost importance. Therapeutic nuclear medicine is used in many different ways to help and treat patients when they are fighting cancer or other diseases. Doctors will take the steps to do whatever they can to make sure that the patient will survive or at least achieve improvement in their health to some degree. When a patient is undergoing surgery to remove the cancer cells, the doctors will often have them go through radiation beforehand to shrink the cancer or tumor down to a size that is easier to remove and to ensure they are not removing more than necessary. Often during surgery, the surgeons will again treat the patient with radiation while they are open so that the radiation is hitting the direct tumor or cancer cells being targeted. Another benefit is that it provides the radiation treatment without having to direct it through the skin again. This reduces the amount of radiation that the patient is getting to a certain degree. Once the surgery is over, the patient will often have to continue with more treatments to make sure that, if anything was missed, it will be attacked by the radiation and be prevented from spreading. Eliminating the cancerous cells can often take more than one type of medical therapy, and it can often take multiple treatments (Radiation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through empowerment, the approach can produce high‐level conservation management intervention. It is a major tool to raise awareness about environmental issues. Disadvantages of participatory monitoring (Ancrenaz et al. 2012): It requires time to initiate a strong capacity building process over a long and continuous period of time As monitoring is difficult to standardize completely, participatory monitoring is often less accurate and results can be difficult to compare. Fortunately, camera trapping is can be standardized more easily than many other monitoring methods. Pragmatically, local communities need to be involved at all phases of a project (design, planning and implementation) to achieve significant results (Borrini‐Feyerabend et al., 2004; Berkes, 2004; Ancrenaz et al., 2007). Some crucial factors that will determine the success or failure of a monitoring program will include for example (Danielsen et al., 2003): Involvement of representatives of the local communities in developing the local application of the ...
