Introducion
Standard shipping companies require little storage. Their main job is to act as the last mile to a
national shipper or to do their own short hauls. An unappreciated niche market of “Store and
Forward” companies has been ignored and treated like just another shipper. Their needs are
completely different. Their customers tend to be long term. Their income is generated by
warehousing, managing product inventory and deliveries.
This mismatch between current management systems and this niche market create an opportunity for
a management services company to gain a foothold in this market. By combining many of the high
end features of Customer Relations Management (CRM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM),
along with the unique needs of “Store and Forward” companies, it should be possible to capture a
sustainable niche.
Supply Chain Management
Supply chain management (SCM) is the process of controlling the operations of the supply chain

difficulty in full production scale, in our scaled down environment it will be easy to implement and a
big asset for the customer.
Supply Chain Management tools or modules used in executing supply chain transactions, managing
supplier relationships and controlling associated business processes. By utilizing this structure we
can create for the small trucking business a “holistic” view for management and implementation of
their services. Thus, they will be able to provide better service and achieve a level of management
usually available to much larger organizations at a fraction of the cost.
Service Supply Management as an adjunct to Supply Chain Management. We intent to apply
the same model of Supply Chain Management to the distribution of services in the Trucking and
Storage service market. Thus, creating a complete view of the offering to the store and forward
market including inventory management and warehousing.
Software Management Tools have, up until now, used the standard model of purchase or rent for IT
systems and services. A client company would buy or lease the software to manage flow of services
and customer accounts. At the end of the life cycle of the software tool upgrades would be required
as well as investment in new equipment. We intend to replace this model with a vertically integrated
management model to provide for the needs of each of the different levels in the market. The
following list includes the multi-level view of the functions of the system. In summary we intend to
create a control level for each entity in the vertical model.

associated business processes, our model will incorporate similar modules to manage services.
While functionality in such systems can often be broad – it commonly includes:

2. Invoice and billing
3. Purchase order processing
4. Inventory management
5. Goods receipt and Warehouse management
6. Supplier Management/Sourcing
By adding Trucking Management Services to this model, we will effectively be fulfilling the needs
of the Store and Forward business model. We will add one important feature to model the real world
use of these services derived from multi-level marketing models. A customer relationship
management tool will also be integrated into the Trucking Management System.
Customer Relations Management
Customer Relations Management (CRM) is a combination of policies, processes and software tools
that aid in the management of customer relations including customer database management (or
contact management), lead management, customer interaction management, customer tracking and
business process tracking.
A good CRM tool is a major aid in the marketing and sales functions of a service business. It
includes business process integration to help identify leads, follow up on those leads, convert those
leads into customers and manage customers to insure a high quality of service. Such a tool is a major
asset to any business and is typically found in medium to large businesses. Small to medium
businesses neither have the time or the resources to implement CRM as training is a significant
factor in its implementation.
Supply Chain Management and Trucking Management:
This is the new piece designed to provide a complete path from the pick up of products and
inventory to the delivery of the product. Store and Forward businesses have unique needs. In
addition to standard freight carriers and movers, Store and Forward businesses need:
1. Several delivery locations per client
2. Managing inventory
3. Provide updates regarding deliveries and inventory to clients
4. Billing for small drops and storage
5. Retention of clients
Note for many the last in the list above is the most important. Clients for most moving businesses
are one time. Repeats are rare. Freight delivery is a nationalized business and is corporate based.
Store and forward are mainly for small to medium sized businesses. Providing good customer
support requires a good CRM. This has to be integrated to the supply chain management systems.
4. To complete the Store and Forward system we offer a bar code based number system that will need
to be installed and set up for your business. When a load is received, it is assigned a unique ID. It
can be tracked from pickup to receipt (in warehouse) to bin to delivery to final location. This
information can all be gathered in the same way that Fedex and UPS track their packages. The data
entry can be by hand or by bar code readers. This information can be displayed on line again similar
to Fedex on request by a registered client. Each client will be issued a unique logon ID and
password. The system uses strict logon to keep user information secure.
Customer Relations Management Integration
As an adjunct to standard customer relations management internet based communications is an
inexpensive way to keep your customers informed of the status of their services. Our goal is put up
the customers inventory and tracking information and accounts management as well. These tools
will diminish the cost of management while improving customer relations.
