How to implement SharePoint in your organizationSPC Adriatics
Speaker: Joško Ivankov;
SharePoint has a large number of options, which is great because it covers a lot functionality, but it also presents a problem in choosing the right functionality for a particular purpose, and also the order of implementation. In this session, based on our practical experience in many implementations of intranet (T-HT, Podravka, HEP, Zagreb airport…) and business applications on SharePoint, we will propose the best way for the introduction of SharePoint in your organization. You will find out quick wins in implementing SharePoint that users will love, and how to set up the basic structure and integration for future (sure) growth of SharePoint implementation.
An introduction to SharePoint 2013 as presented by Michael Blumenthal. This presentation was first given at SharePoint Saturday Chicago on June 1, 2013.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

19. What Sharepoint can do
Common Scenario
SharePoint Solution
1
Network shares, local shared folders to share
documents
Use Document Libraries within sites to
organize documents
2
I’ve a office file MyDoc. To create versions, I do
save as MyDoc V1, MyDoc V2, V3 and … Vn
Turn on versioning in a document library or
list and let SharePoint create versions every
time someone makes a change
3
Who changed my critical documents?
Review the Last Modified and Last
Modified by columns for document(s) in a
view
4
I saved my document to folder-A and after
server migration I can’t find it?
Use SharePoint Search to locate it.
Setup Document ID feature and find
document by Doc ID
5
One of my department user modified the
policy document. He didn’t sent it to me for
approval!
Enable Content Approval on a library / list so
the change is approved by Owner / Approver
before it shows up to others
Use workflows to automate business
processes
6
I’ve to work with hundreds of resources. Its
difficult to track their PTO!
Use Calendar feature in a site and have team
members track their PTO in it

20. What Sharepoint can do …Contd
Common Scenario
SharePoint Solution
7
I work with too many office documents. It is
difficult for me to track updates to those
documents!
Setup Alerts at Document Library / List or
item level. Subscribe to RSS feed of list /
library or site and use a RSS Reader like IE or
Outlook
8
I’m in HR and don’t know what benefit
options most people picked. I’ll send email to
all Staff and compile the results myself
Create a SharePoint survey with questions
and choice options. Let the staff fill the form.
SharePoint will give you the responses and
reports
9
The procedure document is too complex to
follow and update
Create a Wiki site and manage the guide,
instructional manual or FAQ type of
information there
10
My good ideas are not getting to other people
Create a blog site and start writing important
blog posts there.
11
It is difficult to manage a large team. Too
many communication channels
Use Team Site to manage tasks, discussions
and other information. Use Alert / RSS
12
I don’t know whether my department
documents are valuable to others!
View Site Analytics to see how your data is
being used, when and by who
Softvative, Inc. 20
21. What Sharepoint can do …Contd
Common Scenario
SharePoint Solution
13
I prepared a departmental presentation of
40MB. I’ll send it to 30 department people by
attaching it in my email. [40 MB x 30 copies
= 1200 MB or 1.2 GB]
Upload your document in your SharePoint site
and send the link to the Sharepoint document
in your email [40 MB x 1 copy = 40 MB]
14
I’ve lots of data in my excel sheet
Use SharePoint List to create, manage, update
and share the data
15
My medium size company is building a new
intranet. We don’t know much about web
technologies
Use SharePoint as intranet, departmental or
