Sexual Harassment Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of sexual harassment is undeniably challenging due to the sensitive
nature of the subject matter. It requires a delicate balance between presenting factual
information, addressing the emotional impact on victims, and advocating for change. The
difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between being informative and avoiding any potential
harm or triggering language.
Researching the topic involves delving into distressing statistics, case studies, and legal
frameworks. Analyzing the psychological and societal implications of sexual harassment
demands a deep understanding of human behavior, power dynamics, and the broader cultural
context. Crafting a coherent and persuasive argument requires meticulous planning and
organization to convey the severity of the issue while maintaining clarity and empathy.
Moreover, there's a need for a nuanced approach to avoid inadvertently perpetuating harmful
stereotypes or reinforcing misconceptions. Striking the right tone is crucial to ensure that the
essay is both informative and respectful, fostering a sense of understanding rather than
alienation.
Addressing the complexities of sexual harassment also involves acknowledging the
intersectionality of the issue, considering how factors like gender, race, and socio-economic
status can intersect to exacerbate vulnerability. This adds an additional layer of complexity to the
writing process, requiring thorough research and a nuanced perspective to accurately represent
the diverse experiences of individuals.
In conclusion, writing an essay on sexual harassment demands a high level of sensitivity,
thorough research, and careful consideration of language and perspective. It is an intricate task
that goes beyond the surface level, requiring an in-depth exploration of the multifaceted aspects
of the issue.

The Government Should Not Suspend Civil Right For
National...
Throughout Canadian history, the issue of whether or not the government has the
right to suspend civil right for national security has been debated by many citizens.
Some people believed that the government is justified to hold off basic individual
liberties is reasonable for the safety and protection of all Canadians. However, other
believed that the government should not suspend civil rightsfor the sake of national
security. Through careful analysis of the Japanese Canadian Interments, the FLQ
crisis and the Ukrainian Canadian internment, it can be shown that the government
showed unlawfulness in suspending individual rights and liberties.
Some people has argued that the government justified its action for the protection of
Canadians. During times of war, Canadians have feared for their safety and therefore,
decreases their quality of life. For instance, news about the bombing and Pearl
Harbour has spread throughout Canada, and the likeliness of Japan s attack on
Canada had increased. The government could not take risk, therefore they took aside
the rights of a group of persons for the protection of all Canadians. This was not only
acceptable, but also necessary for Canada to survive. Also, the FLQ fighters murdered
an innocent government official and posed a threat to many citizens in Quebec. In
addition to this, it is stated in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms only
apply to reasonable limits. Lastly, Ukrainian Canadian were considered enemy aliens,

Viable Curriculum Response
Is VCAL a viable curriculum response for non academic learners?
Given the broadness of the question, I shall limit the discourse of this paper to
reviewing VCAL as
an intervention measure for getting the non academic students who are at risk of
leaving to complete their Year 12, and
an alternate pathway to increase their employability, via the acquisition of knowledge
and skills for the workplace a key approach to achieving lifelong learning (Chapman,
Gaff, Toomey, Aspin, 2005).
The Background...
In 2000, the Kirby Ministerial Review Committee has revealed the need for an
alternate post compulsory certification, the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning
(VCAL). This comes about because of a concern over a burgeoning number of
students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The damage and trauma sustained by some students in the mainstream education
may prove to be too severe that by the time they get to VCAL, they are almost
unreachable. The batters of failures and rejections... and disengagements, year after
year, result in low academic achievement, conflict with teachers and poor attendance
(VAGO, 2012). We can blame it on poor attitudes; but I think this may well be just a
self preservation mechanism to protect themselves from further ridicule and shame.
In such severe cases, an early intervention program at the middle school may prove
more effective, as addressed in the Future Directions policy (DCPD,
Katherine Mansfield And Ernest Hemmingway Are Both
Published
Katherine Mansfield and Ernest Hemmingway are both published writers. One was
born in New Zealand and the other in the United States during the late 19th century.
This paper will compare and contrast the setting, plot, imagery, climax, and theme
between Mansfield s Miss Brill and Hemmingway s Cat in the Rain.
The setting in Miss Brill takes place in a public garden in France. The story states
the band plays in the Jardins Publiques (Public Gardens) in France (15). Miss Brill,
the protagonist, is proceeding on a Sunday afternoon to the gardens where she will
listen to a band. Mansfield tells us there were a number of other people out that
afternoon, more than any other Sunday. The time of year appears to be autumn.

She is a lady vicariously living through those around her. She makes observations of
the patient Englishman and his nagging wife (15). Furthermore, she observes two
young girls laughing and meeting up with two soldiers (15). Nearby resides a stiff
man with a woman. The man indifference to the woman makes Miss Brill angry. She
whispered over and over The Brute! The Brute! (16). She was also unimpressed by a
beautiful woman that passed by. She dropped some violets, which a young boy
picked up and gave back to her. However Miss Brill see s the woman throw the
flowers away. She exclaims, Dear me! (16). Miss Brill views the events as a play as if
she is an actress. Each individual have their parts. Even the fur she wears around
her head has a part in the play. Mansfield advises, It was exactly like a play. Who
could believe the sky at the back wasn t painted? (17).
In contrast, the characters in the plot of Cat in the Rain are limited to the American
couple, a cat, the padrone, and a maid. The American wife sees a cat from her
window. Hemingway states, A cat was crouched under one of the dripping green
tables (62). She desires to retrieve the cat against the indifference of her husband.
The American wife states, I m going down and get that kitty (62). George, her
husband, half heartedly offers to retrieve it for her. He was indifferent to the episode.
Hemingway advises us that he went on reading and

Vaccines Vaccine Benefits
Vaccines should be required for children and adults all over the United States
because of all their beneficial purposes and benefits. According to the article, Dear
Jenny McCarthy, Here s How Many Lives Could Be Saved Cheaply By Making
Vaccines More Widely Available, Immunization is one of the most cost effective
public health investments (Matthew Herper). It takes more money to save a child by
giving a vaccine, then to pay for their medical bills when they become sick with a
disease or virus. Usually parents when their child is sick they have to stay home and
lose hours of valuable money and time because their child is seriously ill. If the
parents got their child vaccinated then either the illness would come as strong or not
come at all.
Factors Driving Germany To War Essay
There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to
war; firstly due to fear of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a
web of alliances, thirdly that she entered war for imperial reasons, and lastly that
she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one must consider the
degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and
that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of
encirclement. The entrenched isolation within which Germany existed, to some
degree alongside Austria Hungary and lesser so with Italy, and the growing threat
that she posed to Britain both financially and militarily, can be said to have driven the

Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially
defensive and that what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic
victory which would split the entente , showing her desire to break the encirclement.
The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge between Britain and France,
whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet the Russian
threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto
von Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against
the two neighbours [France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this
theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber , who argues that Germany sought to break
the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia and provoke a crisis that
concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France felt
compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an
agreement with Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain
Germany s quick support of Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple
Entente. Yet this idea is not concurrent with Germany s actions towards France. If
keeping France out of the war was a goal, then antagonizing her seems
Melting Ice Caps Research Paper
Coastal cities all around the world are quite precious to the countries to which they
belong. Small and large cities on the water can accumulate massive amounts of
income for countries, with most of it coming from tourists. Unfortunately, these
cities are at risk of shrinking in size as a result of rising seawater levels. Along with
less land for those cities to bring in money, it would cost millions of dollars to
relocate the buildings and homes built there. Due to rising average temperatures of
the earth, thermal expansion of water, along with melting ice caps, is causing the
seawater levels to rise, which is threatening coastline cities such as New York City
and Venice, Italy. There are many causes of rising sea levels, with one of the

New York City is greatly threatened by rising sea levels as about 400,000 New
Yorkers live within the current 100 year floodplain (Gerken). The 100 year
floodplain that Gerken mentions is how much of the city is at risk if the city is to
flood. Showing if the city is to flood, or if current calculations of sea level rise is to
continue, 400,000 people in just New York will need to find new homes. If this
were to happen, it would be extremely costly to the city, and there would be less
room for revenue from tourists. The problem of sea levels rising is not only a
problem in the United States, it is also a problem all around the world, specifically
in Venice, Italy. Any increase in sea levels can pose a large problem for Venice,
and the people of Venice are working to find a way to prevent the effects that rising
sea levels have. Over the centuries, the city s leaders and residents have dealt with
rising sea levels either by demolishing old buildings and erecting new ones on
higher, impermeable stone foundations, or by raising the entrances to buildings that
line the dozens of canals (Keahey). Keahey states how the people of the city are
working together to try to make the rising water levels not do as much damage. They
are doing so by demolishing old buildings and rebuilding them on higher,
impermeable stone foundations and by raising the entrances to buildings.
The Overpopulation Of Pets
According to webmd.com, 46% of people that took a survey claim that they are
dog people. They are obviously very popular pets, but we should all know that
millions of dogs go into shelters every year and most of them must be put down due
to not finding a home. This is caused by overpopulation of dogs from individuals
meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of shelters. Puppies bought from
breeders are not spayed or neutered and this leads to the reproduction of more
puppies. The Animal Population Control article from the American Humane service
states, petoverpopulation encompasses two factors. (1) allowing dogs to reproduce
with little chance to find homes for the offspring and (2) pets being relinquished by
owners who can no longer

Ir The Iranian Identity
Images from Iran:
Iranian Identity in the Global World
Globalization is defined as the world becoming a small global village where all
countries merge into a mosaic of one multicultural free communication of information
village. Yet, if globalization is supposed to enhance the relationships between
different cultures, making the whole world one nation, it drastically fails, due to the
many differences between the world s nations. Iran is one example of a country nation
that has been detached from the global structure. With all the studies that have been
made on Iran, the 1979 Revolution caused the West to treat Iran with great bias, in a
similar fashion to the prevailing bias against the entire Eastern region. Iran has since
been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will analyze Iranian society, with reference to postcolonial theories employing
different approaches. First, I will explain the general idea behind postcolonial theory,
specifically orientalism, as it is one major approach in postcolonial studies. Then I
will look at some historical aspects of Iranian identity development, discussing
various events that have affected the psyche of Iranians as a community. I will
focus on Tehran s metropolitan area as it is the major city in Iran. As an outsider to
Iranian culture inside Iran I am aware that my approach will contain inherent bias,
however, trying to limit this will be my goal throughout the essay. Also, limited
space may not permit a long detailed view of all my research, but I shall attempt to
convey my main point concisely.
The main interest in postcolonial theory is what happens to people during and after
colonialism. Splitting in straight lines self from other by purifying the self, is one
discussion in postcolonial theory. Naturally, people view each other globally within
the concept of Them and Us . One s identity is often defined through encounters with
differing cultures. Edward Said is considered the founder of postcolonial theory. In
1978 Said wrote a controversial book called Orientalism. He attempts to explain the
geographical division between the West, the Occident and
Intrusion In The Awakening
Intrusion
In the story, the narrator is somewhat intrusive giving a logical clue in verse 10 and
presenting every action in the verse in a pause which slows the actions and activities
in the verse. Another intrusion is presented in verse 28. The narrator interrupts the
narrative with background information or comments to the implied reader. The
narrator appears more covert, giving more information to the character Darius as
Cyrus the Persian. The narrator then impresses upon the implied reader the identity or
other reference to Darius.
Distance
Concerning distance the narrator reports both the actions of the characters and their
thoughts. The internal thoughts of the characters, particularly Darius and the
administrations and satraps are reported on, while that of Daniel is not reported on.
We are only presented with exaltation of God with prior intention. The internal
reasoning of characters is declared though the rehearsal of the action not shown by
the narrator. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not difficult to determine. The story seems to turn things upside down.
It focalizes with short introduction about the activities or powers of Darius by
showing that Darius appoints Daniel as one of the three administrators to oversee the
kingdom and then planned to set him over all the other administrators. The narrative
then moves inward toward tableau statements and then outward as the story
defocalizes. Darius seems to be receptive and willing to be worshipped king. The
administrators and satraps on the other hand seems to be crafty planned to
eliminate Daniel and succeed by praying on the intelligence of Darius. Daniel is
presented as an innocent man and a man prayerful and faithful to God. God then
uses the opportunity in bringing deliverance to Daniel. God is presented as the
hero. There is good and there is evil and there is a clear portrayal that God rescue His
faithful and loyal servants. He is to be

Furthermore, the article also deliberate some issues about distributing information
about Indian perspective through media. In media world, Non Indian is likely on
the lead. Since media producers are not a member of Indian community they do not
portray an Indian perspective where Indian members are not happy about it.
Though, they have Indian adviser to consult some ideas about Indian perspective are
not accepted, Non Indian media producers tends to accept the ideas that would fit to
their plans which results that they are ignoring the main point of the Indian
perspective. In fact, they produce some various production that would be compatible
with the perspective and understanding of Non Indian viewers. However, it is
possible to produce a real Indian perspective if it is become a demand in Non Indian

Fasb s New Revenue Recognition Guidelines
My topic is FASB s new revenue recognition guidelines. Revenue could not be
recognized under the old model unless the seller had substantially met the terms of
the agreement, the seller had delivered the goods or performed a substantial part of
the service, the risks and rewards of ownership had passed to buyer, Revenue is the
largest item in financial statements, and issues involving revenue recognition are
among the most important and difficult that standard setters and accountants face.
Revenue recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP are different from those in IFRSs
and both are considered in need of improvement. U.S. GAAP comprises broad
revenue recognition concepts and numerous industry or transaction specific
requirements that can result in different accounting for economically similar
transactions. Although, IFRSs contain less guidance on revenue recognition, its two
main standards IAS 18 Revenue and IAS 11 Construction Contracts can be difficult to
understand and apply beyond simple transactions. Also, they lack guidance on
important topics such as revenue recognition for multiple element arrangements.
Reporting inconsistencies in this accounting area arise because there are no
comprehensive accounting standards covering revenue recognition. Several
authoritative accounting pronouncements have addressed detailed, industry specific
revenue recognition issues which caused practitioners to use standards in situations
for which they were not intended. As a result, in

Beardsley was the main artistic asset of The Savoy, hence the importance of
acknowledging his artistic influences in order to establish the artistic influences of
the periodical. Beardsley s art is truly unique and stands out from the other artists of

Kooistra mentions the chapters of Beardsley s unfinished novel Under the Hill or the
Story of Venus and Tannhäuser published in the January and April issues to
illustrate her point. However, his poem The Three Musicians and its illustrations also
blend pictorial and verbal qualities into a single whole in the same manner as Under
the Hill. The first illustration preceding the poem represents two characters: a
woman, the opera singer the poem mentions, and a young man. The absence of the
third musician in the illustration catches the attention of the reader/viewer, but the
reason of his absence is explained in the poem: the Polish pianist is simply slow to
catch up with the other two. However, the illustration also hints at the suspensive
ending of the poem, in which the young man seizes his chance to flirt with the
opera singer, watched by a French tourist who [...] gives a furious glance, / Red as
his guide book grows, moves on, / and offers up a prayer for France. 8 Thus, the
layout of the first illustration echoes the gaze of the tourist: both the woman and the
young man look at and head into the same direction, on the right outside the frame.
The reader/viewer is put into the position of the tourist as well, and is left to interpret
the poem which suggests a particular interpretation with the illustrations it is
accompanied by. Beardsley actually did another illustration for this poem which was
omitted from The Savoy. The illustration seems to be the following scene of the first
illustration, illustrating this scene in the

Barbara Kingsolver explores a quest in her novel The Poisonwood Bible . The
criteria of a quest consist of a quester, a destination, a purpose, challenges, and
reasons for the quest. In this instance the quester is Orlenna Price whom

who is seeking to convert others. She feels guilty due to the death of her daughter
and now that guilt remains as one of the challenges she faces. This is mostly
transparent when she says How do we aim to live with it? (Kingsolver 9). Her guilt
revolves around the destination to the Congo. Due to the Congo her one of her

Book: The Feiner Points of Leadership by Michael Feiner
The Feiner Points of Leadership is one of the interesting and application oriented
books I have read. I would recommend the book to my friends and colleagues who
aspire to be a good leader. This book should be read by all the leaders and managers
to be successful. It exemplifies some of the important skills manager or leader
should practice at the same time it explains the mistakes one should avoid being a
successful and effective leader. Michael Feiner s experience in PepsiCo, given
examples and instances in his tenure makes it easier to understand the facts in detail.
These examples also helps retain all the points and laws explained in the book.

He was a good manager but not a leader as he was exceptional planner and controller

The book also states the fact that to become successful in the organization, one should
have management and leadership skills in balance. As the imbalance between these
two can be harmful for the person and for the organization he is working for. Book
has also given the way you can analyze your own skills and if you are leader or
manager which can be very helpful for anyone to examine by their own. In part
two, Author sheds light on relational leadership. Relational leadership applies to
everyone irrespective of gender, race or seniority. Leadership is always considered
as power and authority but in day to day life, leadership is not about power and
authority but it is about taking people with you, motivate them, show confidence
in them and show that you believe in their capability. People work better if they
are motivated. In my career I have worked for several different managers but one

For this paper, I have decided to compare two Hitchcock films. Ever since I can
remember, I have seen Alfred Hitchcock films; Psycho, The Birds, North by
Northwest, I enjoy his work because I like the suspense, and visual effects that he
was able to accomplish. Out of all of his films, I believe that my favorite Hitchcock
films would have to be Rear Window (1954) and Vertigo (1958), because I think that
the two incorporate everything that is Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock films are known
for being mysterious, cynical, as well as suspenseful and they are all similar because
of his use of symbolism, light, repetitive actors, and repetition of theme.

This film co stars Grace Kelly as Jeff s love interest Lisa Carol Freemont. Lisa tries

she is shocked to hear what he has been occupying his time with. Jeff has a large
window that looks out onto the courtyard of his New York City apartment where
he can see all of his neighbors. With all of this spare time, around 4 weeks, Jeff
learned nearly everything there was to know about his neighbors. He learned when
they would go to work, come home, eat dinner, bathe, dance, play musical
instruments, as well as spy on the old woman that is suicidal. He had originally
done this just to pass the time until one day he saw a neighbor across the way
murder his wife. Lisa and Jeff became obsessed with the idea that someone was

I really enjoyed this film because it all takes place nearly in one location. The set
is elaborate, and you can see from the inside of Jeff s apartment into the windows
of his neighbors. It is filmed in such a way that you feel as though you are looking

the film also intrigued me. I enjoyed how it was filmed almost in real time and you
become drawn in because everything is timed perfectly. It is suspenseful because you

East Of Eden Title Analysis
Many novels have titles with a meaning that is not obvious until the reader has
completed a large portion of the book. The novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck
has a meaning that only becomes apparent as the reader completes part of the
book. The title is referring to the biblical story of Cain and Abel, two brothers who
fought for God s admiration after their parents were banished from Eden. This story
took place east of Eden and is the clear inspiration for the title. Through the sibling
rivalries of Adam and Charles and of Aron and Caleb the title s meaning becomes
obvious to the reader. This technique effectively causes the reader to search for the
meaning of the title and be more interested in the story. The first story that resembles

Steinbeck cements the idea of sibling rivalry and biblical allusion through the
similarities between both the story of Cain and Abel and the story of Adam and
Charles. Again, there is one brother that is well liked and the other that is not as
favored. Aron is intelligent, charismatic, and overall a well liked person, Cal is
abnormal, unloved, and unfortunately similar to his mother. Throughout their
relationship as brothers Cal became Jealous just as Charles and Cain before, this
feeling is very relatable for anyone who wished to gain their parent s favor. While
Cal was contemplating his jealousy for Aron he said, Nearly everyone preferred
Aron with his golden hair and the openness that allowed his affection to plunge
like a puppy. Cal s emotions hid deep in him and peered out, ready to retreat or
attack. He was starting to punish Abra for liking his brother, and this was nothing
new either. (27.4.61) This clear understanding that you are less liked than your
brother can take an emotional toll on a person and cause one to do things they
regret. Cal was jealous of his brother just as many brothers had been before him and

increasingly becoming a more mainstream genre, enjoyed by people of all kinds.

Fantasy films have the element of surprise the viewer can never predict exactly what
is going to happen next. Although The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
uses this traditional stereotype (and don t forget, it was the tale that set the
stereotypes!) Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone begins in a nice row of
thoroughly modern little terraced houses with neat little lawns and cars in every
driveway. The scene is set during the night and everything is very quiet. The street
lights provide a misty feel to the place until an old man (whom we have just watched
walking down the road) rather dramatically puts most of them out using a small
device not entirely unlike an ornately carved lighter, thus providing an ethereal glow
for the ensuing conversation. The most immediate questions that spring to mind are
What is that Put Outer? Why on earth would the man want to put the street lamps
out? and What exactly is this eccentric looking old man doing in a nice, normal place
like this Privet Drive anyway? This last question was definitely intended by the
producers of the film, as throughout the opening scene the film makes comparisons
between the typical objects and behaviour expected, and those shown in this scene.
The opening to The Fellowship of the Ring does not, strictly speaking, actually have
a setting. It is comprised mostly of
Realistic Fiction Analysis
Have you ever been in a difficult situation where you have to confess, and tell the
truth and nothing but the truth. In the story Red kayak Ben DiAngelo and Mrs.
DiAngelo, (Ben s mother), go out kayaking in their red kayak. But it just so happens
that Digger ( a kid that hates their guts for buying his grandfather s farm and changing
up the whole area) drills holes through their kayak and they sink. Ben ends up dying
but his mother makes it through. Later on the main characterBrady, (who baby sat for
Ben DiAngelo, and went out to save him and he still died) found out that his two best
friends J.T. and Digger were involved in the terrible event/crime, and he had a hard
time telling the truth throughout the novelbecause he was to afraid to turn them in.
Realistic fictionis a genre where a novel or story has events that could happen in real
life. In order for a story to be considered realistic fiction, it should include the
elements of realistic fiction. For example authentic characters are characters that are

Hydrate Research Paper
There is a never ending search for an effective source of energy that is both efficient
and the safest option to use. Scientists located in japan may have found a solution to
this dilemma as they were recently able to locate methane clathrate, more commonly
known as fire ice. Despite the name existing as an oxymoron, many believe this
hydrate could prove to be the savior for the earth s fuel problems. However, given
current research this supposedly useful source of natural gascould prove even more
detrimental towards the environment than carbon dioxide. What must first be noted is
that methane clathrate is a solid hydrate compound. A hydrate is typically a
crystalline compound in which water molecules are chemically bound to another
element.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Increase in temperature or a drop in pressure would cause it to dissociate rapidly,
causing the ice to melt allowing the release gas, which would cause problems not
only towards global warming, but also their solid existence makes them a source of
support. With the release of gas the support would be lost and cause landslides that
would severely damage the production equipment and existing pipelines. Not only
that, but melting a single cubic meter block of this ice would release 160 cubic
meters of harmful methane, which is much worse than carbon dioxide ( Methane
Hydrate , 2014). Any form of retrieval technology used must be careful to capture
all the gas, especially those found in the Arctic, because if that reserve is lost, it
would continually discharge gas for an unknown amount of time, and as noted
before any release of gas proves to be extremely detrimental (Niiler, 2013).
However , not all hope is lost the dissociation of hydrates is endothermic, it uses,
rather than releases, so when the gas is produced the sediments would begin to
cool, allowing for the slowing or stopping of the dissociation which keeps the idea of
using this as a very real
Barriat Research Paper
Introduction Bariatric is the field of medicine that manages obesity and the disease
that accompanies it. Obesity is a chronic disease associated with the three leading
causes of death in the United States: cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes
mellitus, and cancer. (McCance 1477). Successful interventions fare needed to help
improve obesity, which affects more than one third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of US
adults. (CDC 1). Drug therapy and bariatric surgery are used as adjuncts to diet and
exercise in the treatment for obese patients with a BMI greater than 30. (Burchum

Drug Therapy Drug therapy can promote weight loss by suppressing the appetite,

O Brien and Fossie in The Things They Carried Essay
When many think of a great, memorable story, they will probably remember an
inspirational or coming of age novel, or Bildungsroman. In many ways, The Things
They Carried is an exemplary Bildungsroman as it carries the reader through the
lives and problems of every soldier within its pages. Each man is witnessed as he
goes through his own maturation and personal times of struggle and hardships. Some
are focused on more than others, but each man has a story to tell, each a moral to
teach. Throughout The Things They Carried, both Tim O?Brien and Mark Fossie
experience a significant amount of personal maturation by gaining new knowledge
about themselves, the VietnamWar, and the world around them. There are very few
times when a person goes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When O?Brien is shot and calls for Bobby Jorgenson to come to his aid, he realizes
that Jorgenson is too afraid to help his fellow soldiers out. O?Brien writes that he
then felt a deep hatred for Jorgenson and wants to get him back. On the brink of a
maniacal outburst against the new medic, O?Brien writes, ?I?d come to this war a
quiet, thoughtful sort of person?, but after seven months in the bush I realized that
those high, civilized trappings had somehow been crushed under the weight of the
simple daily realities. I?d turned mean inside? (200). Here, O?Brien conveys to the
reader that Vietnam had taken over nearly his entire body and personality, causing
him to transform into an unrelenting, savage being. O?Brien learned that wars can
change people, as the Vietnam War changed him. When Mark Fossie realizes that
Mary Anne, along with the six Green Berets, has gone off into the jungles the
previous night, he learns that the Vietnam War is a merciless trap that can take
anybody or anything and transform it into something unrecognizable. He learns that
the war has the power to completely change even somebody like his sweet
girlfriend, Mary Anne. This insight causes Fossie to feel sorrow. ?The grief took
(Fossie) by the throat and squeezed and would not let go? (105). Gaining common
knowledge is one thing, but learning about the world and its contents during a single

Essay about William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s
Dream
William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare, in his A
Midsummer Night s Dream, uses his characters to cast a sense of derision over the
use of the imagination. The lunatic, the lover and the poet are thrown together all on
one line, and it is implied that the latter two are as crazy as the first. (Midsummer
Night s Dream, V.1.7) Despite this seeming scorn for plays and their ilk,
Shakespeare is implementing a strong irony. Characters who scorn the imagination
are no more than imaginings themselves and, by this, Shakespeare is actually
reinforcing a positive image of plays of the imagination. Theseus s denial of
imagination s worth reads more as apophasis than as any true refutation. Even as he

Theseus, as an added level of irony, spends a fair amount of time voicing his
disdain for the imagination, and for plays and then, just after that, he chooses a
play for the night s entertainment. He disregards some satire, keen and critical in
favor of Pyramus and Thisbe, in fact. (V.1.58) One would think that, as the
representative of cool reason, Theseus would opt to listen to something less
fanciful, but he belies his own position against the imagination and chooses an airy
nothing instead. (V.1.17) It is in this direct contradiction that Shakespeare cinches
the irony of Theseus. Even so, once he has chosen Pyramus and Thisbe, Theseus
maintains his stand: the best in this kind [plays] are but shadows. (V.1.224) If this
were true, and he believed it, why would he then choose a shadow for
entertainment? Why not choose something more real, something that has more of
an effect on the world? The simple answer is that plays themselves do affect the
world. For even this shadow, Pyramus and Thisbe, does in the end draw some
emotion from its watchers Theseus says this passion, and the death of a dear friend,
would go near to make a man look sad. (V.1.303) Hippolyta furthers his sentiment,
adding Beshrew my heart but I pity the man. (V.1.305) If the worst of plays can draw
such emotion, then plays hold power indeed. In yet a further interpretation, Theseus
may act as a sort of metaphor for the

Because of the nature of this case, where the wife is accusing the ex husband of

because cyber stalking is also closely related to:
Cyberharassment. Cyberharassment differs from cyberstalking in that it may

pertains to threatening or harassing email messages, instant messages, or to blog

cyberharrassment by including language addressing electronic communications in
general harassment statutes, while others have created stand alone cyberharassment

Montresor s Revenge
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe tells a tale of treachery, intensity, and
revenge. Revenge is the focal point of the story; it plays a very significant role.
Montresor, the main character, plans his revenge in a very expert way. He does by
placing an importance on connoisseur ship, or being an expert, and he would not take
anything less than expert. Montresor defines this importance because he is a
connoisseur himself, of murder and deception, he makes his victim, Fortunato, act a
certain way, he makes sure there are no witnesses, and he does it all without getting
caught. Montresor begins to cater to Fortunato s weakness, his arrogance. Montresor
tells the great Fortunato that he has come across a precious wine, Amontillado,
The Book Of Genesis Essay
In The Book Of Genesis, Chapter 1, God creates night and day(1:3 5) and separates
the ocean from the sky(1:6 7). He provides the essentials for every living thing to
thrive on Earth (water, air, and food). In Chapter 2, God created man out of dust
and woman out of the rib of the man, He gave them one rule which was not to eat
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The woman, Eve, disobeyed, when
lured by a snake to eat the fruit and was convinced it was harmless. She offered some
fruit to the man, Adam, and he took it and ate it(3:1 6). The question I will ask in my
essay will be as follows: The creation account begins and ends in Chapter 1. In
Chapter 2, the creation account virtually begins again. Why is this? What is going
on? After Godlet Adam and Eveconfess that they had eaten the fruit, he gave them
their punishments. For man he said Cursed is the ground because of you! (3:17),
growing crops and maintaining them will demand an intense amount of labor. He
continued by saying For you are dust and to dust you shall return (3:19), this
statement hints that before they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
humans were immortal which meant that they could live forever. When God says

In Chapter 2, God stated that we shall return to dust the substance from which we
were created. From this text, we can infer that before the fruit was eaten humans
were immortal. God s plans in Chapter 1 had changed when the fruit, affected the
man and woman mentally. Before they ate of the fruit they did not know the
difference between good and evil and lived life happily even when they were naked.
After they ate of the fruit they knew the difference between good and evil and were
ashamed of their naked body. Therefore, life on Earth virtually changed mentally and

Lenders are only willing to fund loans when they have the knowledge that there is an
ability to repay this principal debt at the end of the specific period and make interest
payments periodically as they fall due. As the lenders, such as the banks, are
concerned with earning returns and for a secured investment, they will in particularly
look at the amount of assets В– cash and those that will soon be converted to cash,
and to compare it against the liabilities falling due in the future ( Kloot et al., 1992,
p. 28). For a В‘protection buffer for the bank should there be any losses in the entity
that borrows, the bank will notice the amount of ownership capital (Kloot et al.,
1992).
Suppliers and other trade creditors use the financial information to rate the ability to
achieve their objectives of maximising the В‘rate of return on funds supplied
(Whittred et al, 2004). Thus, they will be interested in reports that show the ability to
pay for the liabilities as they fall due, just as how lenders will search for these specific
information. Governments and their agencies is another specific group of users
interested in abstracting information with a different objective of monitoring and
regulating an entity s activities, performance and profits, since this will affect the
nation s employment level and aids in determining the taxation policies they should
be implementing to best suit the given situation.

Intercultural Competence Of International Recruiters37.
INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE OF INTERNATIONAL RECRUITERS37
Literature Review
Studies of intercultural competence over the past thirty years attempt to measure the
success or growth of an individual s knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to
other cultures (Sinicrope, Norris Watanabe, 2007). Global learning outcomes such as
intercultural communication skills, intercultural adaptability, intercultural sensitivity,
intercultural maturity, and intercultural competence are skills that universities feel are
important to thrive in a diverse society where effective interactions with people from
other cultures is necessary (Deardorff, 2011; Fantini, Arias Galicia, Guay, 2001;

Educators need to justify program success by demonstrating annual increases in study
abroad participation numbers in addition to providing quality measures related to
cultural learning as well (Engle Engle, 2003; Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004). Ideally,
students participating in a study abroad experience will gain an appreciation of their
own culture as well as develop sensitivity towards culturally distinct others
(Maharaja, 2009). Students who interact with people from diverse backgrounds will
hopefully accept cultural diversity and overcome negative stereotypes (Dong, Day,
Collaco, 2008). Scholars often associate cultural competency with the skills and
behaviors gained as individuals develop more complex levels of cultural sensitivity
(HernГЎndez Kose, 2012, p. 514). Cultural sensitivity is one of the key ingredients
needed to understand and engage in relationships with those from others from
dissimilar backgrounds (HernГЎndez Kose, 2012).
Numerous assessment tools, ranging from simple short surveys to more complex
behavioral and performance evaluations, attempt to measure intercultural competence
(Matsumoto Hwang, 2013; Sinicrope et al., 2007). Historically, study abroad
administrators focused on program logistics, staffing, safety matters, and recruiting

The Supreme Court s Court
The Supreme Court s ruling to allow same sex marriage has been a big change in
this country and a huge victory for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transexual) community. The ruling has changed millions of American s lives and
touched even more. In fact, my manager is a lesbian legally married and being
around them, for even a short amount of time, makes it obvious how happy they are
to be married.
As a religious man, I feel that it is unusual for me to support same sex marriage. Be
that as it may, after observing my manager with her wife and considering how many
other couples in the LGBT community could experience such happiness, there is no
way that I could agree with denying them the right to marry their loved ones. When I
assess the situation, it simply comes down to letting Americans live the lifestyle that
they desire (within rationality) and putting them in the best position to live happily. I
think equal opportunity marriage does that very well.
As big of a step in the right direction as equal opportunity marriage is for the LGBT
community, there is still more steps to take. They still have many social issues that
they have to deal with such as discrimination and a lack of acceptance from our fellow
Americans. Acceptance is always huge for a minority group and discrimination is
something that nobody wants to endure. The problem is that often, people don t
consider the negative effects that they have on others. A study was done on students

374, para. 3). According to John Collins Harvey, a senior research scholar and
professor emeritus of medicine at Georgetown University, feeding tubes should be
removed from patients in PVS because there is no hope for recovery. Harvey
explains that the cerebral cortex the area of the brain that controls conscious
thought, language, and sensory perception has been irreparably damaged by a
lack of oxygen (Harvey, 2004). However, recent studies on DOC have revealed the
difficulty of diagnosing PVS, especially because a few PVS patients recovered
consciousness and demonstrated awareness as a result of drug therapies and
functional imaging studies (Fisher Appelbaum, 2010). Obviously, these patients
were not in PVS, an irreversible condition. The awakening of persons after the
administration of specific medications brings attention to the possibility that VS is
often over diagnosed (Sara Pistoia, 2010). The differential diagnosis of disorders of
consciousness is challenging. The rate of misdiagnosis is approximately 40%, and
new methods are required to complement bedside testing, particularly if the patient s
capacity to show behavioral signs of awareness is diminished (Monti,
Vanhaudenhuyse, Coleman, Boly, 2010, para. 1). The Issue of Death The definition
of death is another issue paramount to this discussion. Robert Rakestraw, professor of

Although there has not been a consensus on an exact causation due to its global
nature there has been unanimity on a number of factors. As in the case of its sister
crisis (the Great Depression), many scholars acknowledge that before this cataclysm
struck, the preceding economy did in fact experience a boom period. Most critics
are also in accordance that the trigger of this crisis had to involve the subprime
mortgage bubble which collapsed in the United States however, that alone could not
represent the exact causality of this crisis. Just as in the Great Depression, there were
a variety of contributing factors that resulted in this financial catastrophe.
Despite evidence of this evolving predicament present throughout 2006 and ... Show

It is evident that the immediate causalities of this crisis were focused on excessive
debt leverage or imprudent lending (Wade). Most of it appeared in the form of credit
structures that were complexly structured (i.e. CDS), so therefore when
pandemonium hit the market after the fall of the Lehman Brothers bank, the major
default risk associated with these investments took many investors to their breaking
point. Now in spite this, Bernanke also briefly mentioned that there were various
other factors at work in explaining the severity of the crisis most notably the
vulnerabilities in the system in addition to underperformances in government
responses. Various factors Bernanke describes included; banks overreliance on short
term wholesale funding, an over dependence on rating agencies, shortcomings in
private sector risk management, excessive leverage on the part of households,
businesses and financial firms as well as an overall failure of existing regulatory
practices worldwide such as statutory gaps in regulation on special purpose vehicles
(Bernanke).
So, how do these two major crises compare when analyzed against one another the
similarities should be obvious. For instance, in each of these particular catastrophes
there was clear evidence of a preceding economic boom before

modern society is engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is
kept imprisoned. Society is seen as a cage by many because the cultural beliefs that
make up the society are what guide the actions and behaviors of those people within.
Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping people develop successfully and
positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies that were challenged
by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the
causes of some troublesome lives. In two short stories set during the mid twentieth

problem which can be similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun
for the first time Dave accidentally shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the
mule dies. The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to
the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins
plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. While working on Mr.
Hawkins plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers because they
think [he] ain t nothing but a boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the
story that a group of people that has gathered around the dead mule on the
plantation laughs at Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes (886). Once
again this emphasizes that he receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins
plantation is similar to the social environment in Harlem described in Sonny s Blues .

Crown Of Life Research Paper
The ability to become young again, live forever, and to heal any wound has been
discovered in 1991! Ron and Tom are archaeologists from Australia, and their latest
mission is to retrieve the Crown of Life from the Tomb of Neferkheperuhersekheper
located in Egypt. Whoever wears the Crown of Life will become young, never die,
and heal you whenever you get hurt. Ron and Tom arrived at the entranceto the tomb.
They put on their packs filled to the brim with their gear. The map showed that
there were four corridors leading to the podium holding the Crown of Life. Ron and
Tom rolled over the boulder blocking the first corridor. They saw that there are tiles
on the ground, and if you stepped on the wrong one, you would fall into a bottomless
pit.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They cautiously walked through it. As Tom turned around, Steve noticed that Tom
walked into a tripwire that activated a trap that threw spears. Steve quickly pushed
Tom out of harm s way, but didn t have enough time to completely get himself out
of danger. The spear grazed his left shoulder, but luckily no fatal damage occurred.
Tom quickly took out the first aid kit out of his pack and wrapped gauze around
Steve s shoulder to stop the bleeding. As soon as Steve felt better, they continued to
the room containing the treasure. They saw the podium with the Crown of Life
inside a glass container. They both breathlessly walked up, and as soon as they
were about to remove the glass case, everything went dark. Esteban, the tomb
robber, took the back of his flashlight and knocked both Steve and Tom out. He tied
them both together, and quickly scurried out of the tomb. Steve and Tom scooted
over and sat down on the glass case, shattering it into hundreds of pieces. They
would then take the biggest piece, and cut themselves free. After, they dashed out of
the tomb. They quickly got back into their jeep, and got out the thermal scanner
from their trunk. Thier scanner showed two life forms about a few miles away.
Steve and Tom thought that Esteban had a partner. They drove as fast as the jeep
allowed to try to catch up to them. After a few hours, they finally saw that they
stopped. Steve and Tom followed Esteban and his partner into a
INTRO Serbia WWI
Serbia wwi: INTRO Serbia was consumed by nationalism, two major wars within the
span of ten years destroying their economy and causing tensions to rise. Austria
Hungary s annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina had played a primary role in
sparking the Bosnian Crisis less than a decade before, leading both countries to
develop a fundamental distrust for the other, their relations becoming permanently
strained. In 1914, the seemingly inevitable occurred war broke out in the Balkans,
prompted by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, archduke and heir to the throne of
Austria Hungary. Gavrilo Princip, the assassin, was a known member of the terrorist

Romania entered the war in late 1916 on behalf of the Allies, renouncing
previously held Central alliances in order to gain Transylvania and meth, but their
presence yielded no major results. Russia, despite temporarily being rejuvenated by
Romania s entrance into the war, continued to crumble internally as animosity
towards the largely incompetent royal family grew, in large part due to Russia s
role in the war. In 1917, revolution overtook Russia, the monarchy being abolished
and multiple governments being established and subsequently toppled. The
Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, took power and upon German invasion of Ukraine
hesitantly agreed to the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, ceding vast swaths of land to the
Central Powers and destroying the Triple Entente. In the wake of Russia s abrupt
retreat from the war, another powerful military force joined the Allied Powers The
US joined World War Iin 1917 in an effort to halt Germans naval attacks, despite
nonexistent public support, providing support for British and French troops in
attacks yet to come. The Germans launched a massive offensive in the spring of
1918, dividing and conquering British and French troops in an effort to end the war
in victory before the US arrived. The German troops initially appeared victorious,
utilizing revolutionary battlefield tactics to regain large swaths of territory, but
ultimately they failed to hold this territory due in large part to a lack of supplies. The
Allies launched a counteroffensive strike in 1918 beginning in August of 1918,
quickly decimating German progress and sending them reeling. They waged quick
attacks on the Germans, withdrawing before a counterattack could be made,
continuously assaulting the Hindenburg line. German defeat was drawing near, and
with that fate in mind the German soldiers openly rebelled, refusing to participate in
any more suicidal defensives
The Effects Of Environmental Impacts On The Environment
When it comes to our environment in today s day and age, citizens only seem to see
it becoming worse and worse. In fact, most would even say that the world is beyond
saving with all of the impact greenhouse gases and the human way of living is
destroying our ecosystems. But that couldn t be further from the truth! Today, we
have plenty of efforts in place attempting to reduce, and hopefully reverse, the
negative effects on our environment. The transportation industry, one of the largest
contributors to CO2 emissions, is no exception. Amtrak, being the number one
passenger rail system in America, is making it an active goal to help preserve our
planet. For instance, Amtrak pays close attention to the level of carbon emissions
that it contributes on both a personal and overall scale. Just by traveling on Amtrak,
instead of various other options, you are choosing a mode a transportation that
contributes less greenhouse gases. Amtrak states that by riding on it instead of say
a car or plane, there is as much as a thirty percent increase in energy efficiency.
Amtrak also offers CO2 offsets by allowing passengers to buy back the amount of
greenhouse gases that they personally added as a natural result of their travel.
Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Amtrak has created a tool called the Rail
Calculator which calculates the amount of carbon emissions generated by the
passenger s rail travel based on the distance that they traveled and then compiles a
price that the
Lean On Lean Software Development
Lean Summary Lean Software Development (LSD) is an implementation of Lean
Principles in software development. In sum, every action that does not produce
value is considered waste (muda)(Liker, 2005). The goal is to create a system
(software development or otherwise) that is waste free. Several Agile techniques
can be used to achieve this in software development, making LSD and Agile similar
at first glance (Austad, 2011) . Origin/History It is important to note the history of
Lean and the history of Lean Software development (LSD) are two different
histories. Lean and LSD are related but their histories are different. This history will
focus on LSD. The term lean software development originated in a book written by
Mary Poppendieck and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Empower the Team In a traditional work environment, decisions are made from
the top down. In a LSD, it works in reverse of that. The lean approach favors the
aphorism find good people and let them do their own job, encouraging progress,
catching errors, and removing impediments, but not micro managing (Liker,
2005). Defer Commitment By deferring critical/irreversible, you keep your options
open for as long as possible (Liker, 2005). Pros/Cons Pros o Delivering the product
early means that the development team can deliver more functionality in a shorter
period of time, hence enabling more projects to be delivered. o Empowerment of
the development team helps in developing the decision making ability of the team
members which in turn creates more motivation among team members ( Top 12
Software Development Methodologies And Its Advantages/Disadvantages ,
2014). Cons o Lean does not do very well in small dev teams where the projects are
small and unpredictable (job shop and/or lots of support). o The project sponsors
and clients need to know what they want and make decisions they will stick to. In
lean software development these decisions can be made later. But the problem is
that project sponsors tend to be paralyzed by fear when it comes to making the
tough decisions. And in lean the whole objective of using this over say agile
methodology is to enable your development to be done faster and
The Case Of Roe V. Wade
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court, on the case of Roe v Wade, ruled to
legalize abortion in all fifty US states. Forty two years after this decision,
approximately 56 million abortions have been performed in the US alone and this
number continues to climb drastically day to day. For some individuals, this number
is simply not enough. For example, in her article, It Is Time to Integrate Abortioninto
Primary Care, Susan Yanow argues the case that abortion is here to stay. With this
observation, she further believes that the procedure should be made more available
to all women, and likewise, any physician should be easily allowed to perform
abortions. Susan Yanow begins by advocating for the increased availability of
procuring abortions for all women no matter their income, location, or age. She offers
a complaint against the many barriers for woman to obtaining an abortion, State
restrictions... create almost insurmountable barriers to access, especially for rural,
young, and low income women. Yanow argues that women should not have to travel
long distances or deal with unnecessary requirements in order to get the reproductive
health care they need. She resolves this by insisting on integrating abortion into
primary care in such a way that family physicians at home be allowed to perform first
trimester abortions. As one continues through the article, Yanow s position becomes
increasingly clear. She points out that most primary care clinicians already have the

Long beaten out by the glaring sun, Noctis and his friends stood on outside of the
car. Prompto, who was leaning on the front wheel, gawked at the young woman
coming up to them. Her blonde hair was tucked underneath a faded, red cap, along
with that, she wore faded blue jean shorts and a faded yellow jacket zipped down to
reveal an orange bikini top that Prompto couldn t help but drool over.
So which one of y all is the prince? She asked, speaking in a thick, southern drawl.
Noctis stood up from behind the front wheel and Cindy immediately spotted him.
There you are, congrats on your weddin !

noticed a folded map in her hand. Y all look pretty bored, huh.
We re in the middle of nowhere after all.
Cindy smiled at him to which he returned a crosed smirk.
Then why don t y all have a look around. She handed him the map. This is so you
won t get lost.
That doesn t sound like that bad of an idea to pass time, Iris said, walking over to
them. I mean, what do you do here for fun, Cindy?
For fun... She mused over the question. Tinkerin with the cars round here is the most
fun I ever have, can t do much else with all those dangerous creatures lurkin about.
Dangerous creatures, Noctis said.
Oh then we should take on some hunts while we re here, Noct.
Sure thing, betcha we can make some easy money that way.
That s the idea!
Hey Noct, Iris, check this out! Prompto beckoned, he was standing outside of the
convenience store a place sure to have some kind of air conditioning. Noct and Iris
traded curious glances before finally heading over.
Inside, the store was filled with a variety of goods and appliances, though taking up
the majority of the walls and shelves were car parts.

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same
rights as the rich. He very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the
American worker. Woody Guthrie s music was not written down, but instead sung,
performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure of this song is easy
and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the
melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his
folk music. He was a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his
guitar and voice (occasionally using a harmonica) in his performances. He created
songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the USA as a country singer,
and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor
treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just
something that was made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on
political and worldly events.

Comparing Rembrandt And Eakins s Anatomy Of Dr. Tulp
Introduction: Rembrandt and Eakins The similarities, and differences, between
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn s Anatomy of Dr. Tulp (1632) and Thomas
Eakins The Agnew Clinic (1889) are both uncanny and unprecedented. Painted in
1630 s Amsterdam during the Dutch Baroque period, Rembrandt sought to preserve
the rare occasion in which a real human body was used as an academic tool in order
to prove anatomy theories. On the contrary, Eakins piece was painted in 19th century
America during the realist movement to memorialize a retiring professor. However, it
is their similarities that make them comparable; they were both commissioned by
academic institutions, they both depict a surgery in progress, they both celebrate the
careers of notable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject of the yearly autopsy was always a criminal who had just been executed
for their crimes, and autopsies had to be performed immediately due to the time
sensitive process of the decaying corpse. Rather morbid in his interpretation of the
event, Rembrandt sought to reproduce the curiosity and surprise he witnessed through
the use of an asymmetrical pyramid so that no face is hidden. This sort of asymmetry
is characteristic of the Baroque period.
There is no truer adaptation of a Baroque painting than this. During this time there
were great revelations of science which catapulted further interest in the sciences.
The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp portrays a scientific discovery. As Dr. Beth Harris
points out and as seen in Fig. 3, Dr. Tulp s left hand is moving in a way that would
show how the tendons of the dissected hand would work (Smarthistory, 2015).
Additionally, Baroque period artists often sought realism in portraits, with an attention
to physical details, and a focus on the dramatic including the contrast between light
and shadow and the use of rich, deep colors (MindEdge 2.01). A real test of its time,
this portrait is almost photo like in its adaption of realism and the physical detail
exemplified through the facial expressions of the onlookers. Furthermore, Rembrandt
sought to emphasize the action depicted in this portrait through by almost
illuminating the corpse
Anthem Essay
Anthem Essay
As one reads Ayn Rand s significant quotes from the story of anthem, there is always
a main theme that is trying to escape, just as Prometheus escaped in her story. All
three of the listed quotes work as a trio to sing that We; as society, works to defeat
individuality. The quotes emphasize that we cannot survive without individualism
and being alone brings out our unique personalities. It is true that all the quotes work
as one, but at the same time they have their own individualism. Each quote holds a
purpose of its own and the author wants to express the quote to each persons
understanding.
Rand s quote, The word We ... crushes all beneath it, and that which is... Show more

When he makes himself happy he feels as if he has completed his mission in life. My
happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any
end. It is the end. This quote is Prometheus statement to society that he does not care
about making everyone better, but that he cares for each person to individually
improve themselves. Prometheus wants every person to find the happiness within
themselves.
I think. I am. I will. A quote by Ayn Rand that is similar to Rene Descartes quote, I
think therefore I am. This quote tells society that Prometheus can do anything by
himself. He does not need the we of society to complete a task. Prometheus can
think independently and wants to express himself as one individual. I will,
illustrates that he will and can do anything. Prometheus believes, just as Rene
Descartes does, that if he can think by himself, he is able to live by himself. As he
is alone he is thinking by himself, therefore he is alive and able to express himself as
he truly is.
The main quotes of Anthem were written with a real purpose. Ayn Rand had the
mission to write these significant quotes so that each person would make their own
meaning out of them. Rand longed for someone to allow their individualism to bring
these quotes to life with these quotes, do not listen to what theme society has placed
Screens During The Edo Period
The size of the screens produced during the Edo period varied greatly based on a
patron s need. Artisans would use the technique of wrapping strips of paper
horizontally from the front of one panel to the back of the next forming hinges...
This process is repeated at least three times to strengthen the hinges. This gave
artists both more versatility and some possible complications, since there artwork
had to fill an entire screen taking into account the screen s folds. For patrons,
folding screens were convenient, since they could be transported easily whenever
one traveled and they took up little space when they needed to be stored. Originally,
the screens could be up to eight panels in order to fill large castles in Japan. On the

The genre of ukiyo e, or pictures of the floating world, were meant to tease the
viewer by evocations of beauty, sensuality, and poetic mood which betraying little
or no deeply felt individual emotion. This tradition represents a self centered
culture in the lower classes, and occasionally the samurai class compared to the
more stable virtuous world ruled by the shogun. Robert Singer believes that this
self centered, entertainment fixed culture began from ancient agricultural rituals,
where performers would put on costumes to exorcise demons and bring good luck
into a society. These interactions allowed the community to create stronger ties to
each other. Singer also states that bordellos were not merely places for men to
purchase sexual satisfaction, though that was undeniably their raison d etre, but
they became centers of sophisticated cultural life in their own right. An individual
could go to the red light district and discuss poetry while drinking tea in these
brothels, while someone played a shamisen in the background. This screens also
served as a means of escaping life through the representation of female beauty. A
woman must be shown young, have small feet, flawless features, and she should be
elegant in movement and in dress, her bearing possessed both dignity and
gentleness in the arts required of women, and was ignorant of nothing. While
Saikaku s description relates some of the more superficial values from the floating
world genre, this statement of idealized beauty demonstrates a need in society for
these types of images. It represents a necessity in society to create this art form, so
one can withdrawal from daily
Los Angeles Five Themes Of Geography
Los Angeles is the biggest city in the southwestern part of the state of California.
Every city has the five themes of geography, which are location, place, human
environment interaction, region and movement. Just like every other city, Los
Angeles has them too! The location of Los Angeles is 34.05 latitude and 118.24
longitude. Los Angelesis at elevation 96 meters above sea level. With that being
said, location and place are not the same thing when geography is involved. For
example, the place for Los Angeles is the climate and language. The climate of Los
Angeles is warm and sunny and the winters bring rain instead of snow. Also, the
languages that are mostly spoken there are English and Spanish. Los Angeles is a

architectural and engineering design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc.
Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data.
CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high

Gandhi And The Life Of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Bapu (the father of the nation)
and Mahatma (the great soul) was born at Porbandar on 2nd October, 1869.
Karamchand was his father and Putlibai was his mother. His father was a
hereditary diwan of a petty princely state in erstwhile Kathiwara. His mother was a
pious, God fearing, devout and simple lady given to traditional religious practices
such as prayers, reciting of God s names, counting rosary beads etc. They belonged
to the caste of Vaishya. In London, he had a very unhappy and restless life as he
felt like a square peg in a round hole in the so sophisticated English society and
milieu. He remained almost an outcast although he tried to ape the English
youth. All his attempts to become a fashionable English gentleman again proved a
misadventure as his attempts to smoke and eating meat had proved earlier in
India. Therefore, he gave up these attempts of becoming a gentleman and decided
to follow his own nature. There he read Barnard Shaw s Plea for Vegetarianism
and declared, From the day of reading this book, I may claim to have become a
vegetarian by choice the spread of which became my mission. He also set up a
vegetarian club there and one day invited Sir Adwin Arnold to become the club s
Vice president. In 1891, he passed his Bar at Law examination and in the summer
of the same year returned to India, to his great relief, and he was called to the Bar at
Bombay but again as a practitioner of law, he proved a miserable
The Striped Pajamas By Mark Herman
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Mark Herman)
The Holocaust, being one of the most tragic events in history, has found itself
becoming an influence in popular cinema as a way to delve into the endless stories
of the experience. One movie, in particular, that presents the Holocaust in a more
empathetic light is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, directed by Mark Herman. The
movie resonated well with the audience and has accumulated many nominations and
awards. How this was achieved was through a narrative of two young boys, a German
and a Jew, who come across each other in unknowingly disheartening circumstances
and develop a friendship that ultimately ends in tragedy. Presentation, context, and
accuracy were key factors that had brought this story to fame.
The director s intent was subtle. The movie was presented unbiasedly but it slowly
progressed to show the director s distaste for the treatment in Concentration Camps
and the Holocaust in general. By presenting both personal accounts of the children
and their families, the audience is brought to a more sympathetic level as a way to
better understand the emotion of the experience. A visual cue, however, that would
possibly indicate the director s intent would be the usage of color. Within scenes of
distaste towards the Germans were shown in darker tones. The dialogue was also a
bit more biased. For example, whenever the German child s parents would interact
with him, the parent s dialogue proved to be more distant or

Sexual Harassment Essays

  • 1. Sexual Harassment Essays Writing an essay on the topic of sexual harassment is undeniably challenging due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter. It requires a delicate balance between presenting factual information, addressing the emotional impact on victims, and advocating for change. The difficulty lies in navigating the fine line between being informative and avoiding any potential harm or triggering language. Researching the topic involves delving into distressing statistics, case studies, and legal frameworks. Analyzing the psychological and societal implications of sexual harassment demands a deep understanding of human behavior, power dynamics, and the broader cultural context. Crafting a coherent and persuasive argument requires meticulous planning and organization to convey the severity of the issue while maintaining clarity and empathy. Moreover, there's a need for a nuanced approach to avoid inadvertently perpetuating harmful stereotypes or reinforcing misconceptions. Striking the right tone is crucial to ensure that the essay is both informative and respectful, fostering a sense of understanding rather than alienation. Addressing the complexities of sexual harassment also involves acknowledging the intersectionality of the issue, considering how factors like gender, race, and socio-economic status can intersect to exacerbate vulnerability. This adds an additional layer of complexity to the writing process, requiring thorough research and a nuanced perspective to accurately represent the diverse experiences of individuals. In conclusion, writing an essay on sexual harassment demands a high level of sensitivity, thorough research, and careful consideration of language and perspective. It is an intricate task that goes beyond the surface level, requiring an in-depth exploration of the multifaceted aspects of the issue. And remember, if you find yourself struggling with such essays or any other academic writing, there are services like HelpWriting.net where you can order similar essays and receive professional assistance tailored to your specific needs. • 2. The Government Should Not Suspend Civil Right For National... Throughout Canadian history, the issue of whether or not the government has the right to suspend civil right for national security has been debated by many citizens. Some people believed that the government is justified to hold off basic individual liberties is reasonable for the safety and protection of all Canadians. However, other believed that the government should not suspend civil rightsfor the sake of national security. Through careful analysis of the Japanese Canadian Interments, the FLQ crisis and the Ukrainian Canadian internment, it can be shown that the government showed unlawfulness in suspending individual rights and liberties. Some people has argued that the government justified its action for the protection of Canadians. During times of war, Canadians have feared for their safety and therefore, decreases their quality of life. For instance, news about the bombing and Pearl Harbour has spread throughout Canada, and the likeliness of Japan s attack on Canada had increased. The government could not take risk, therefore they took aside the rights of a group of persons for the protection of all Canadians. This was not only acceptable, but also necessary for Canada to survive. Also, the FLQ fighters murdered an innocent government official and posed a threat to many citizens in Quebec. In addition to this, it is stated in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms only apply to reasonable limits. Lastly, Ukrainian Canadian were considered enemy aliens, a huge
  • 3. Viable Curriculum Response Is VCAL a viable curriculum response for non academic learners? Given the broadness of the question, I shall limit the discourse of this paper to reviewing VCAL as an intervention measure for getting the non academic students who are at risk of leaving to complete their Year 12, and an alternate pathway to increase their employability, via the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the workplace a key approach to achieving lifelong learning (Chapman, Gaff, Toomey, Aspin, 2005). The Background... In 2000, the Kirby Ministerial Review Committee has revealed the need for an alternate post compulsory certification, the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). This comes about because of a concern over a burgeoning number of students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The damage and trauma sustained by some students in the mainstream education may prove to be too severe that by the time they get to VCAL, they are almost unreachable. The batters of failures and rejections... and disengagements, year after year, result in low academic achievement, conflict with teachers and poor attendance (VAGO, 2012). We can blame it on poor attitudes; but I think this may well be just a self preservation mechanism to protect themselves from further ridicule and shame. In such severe cases, an early intervention program at the middle school may prove more effective, as addressed in the Future Directions policy (DCPD,
  • 4. Katherine Mansfield And Ernest Hemmingway Are Both Published Katherine Mansfield and Ernest Hemmingway are both published writers. One was born in New Zealand and the other in the United States during the late 19th century. This paper will compare and contrast the setting, plot, imagery, climax, and theme between Mansfield s Miss Brill and Hemmingway s Cat in the Rain. The setting in Miss Brill takes place in a public garden in France. The story states the band plays in the Jardins Publiques (Public Gardens) in France (15). Miss Brill, the protagonist, is proceeding on a Sunday afternoon to the gardens where she will listen to a band. Mansfield tells us there were a number of other people out that afternoon, more than any other Sunday. The time of year appears to be autumn. Mansfield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a lady vicariously living through those around her. She makes observations of the patient Englishman and his nagging wife (15). Furthermore, she observes two young girls laughing and meeting up with two soldiers (15). Nearby resides a stiff man with a woman. The man indifference to the woman makes Miss Brill angry. She whispered over and over The Brute! The Brute! (16). She was also unimpressed by a beautiful woman that passed by. She dropped some violets, which a young boy picked up and gave back to her. However Miss Brill see s the woman throw the flowers away. She exclaims, Dear me! (16). Miss Brill views the events as a play as if she is an actress. Each individual have their parts. Even the fur she wears around her head has a part in the play. Mansfield advises, It was exactly like a play. Who could believe the sky at the back wasn t painted? (17). In contrast, the characters in the plot of Cat in the Rain are limited to the American couple, a cat, the padrone, and a maid. The American wife sees a cat from her window. Hemingway states, A cat was crouched under one of the dripping green tables (62). She desires to retrieve the cat against the indifference of her husband. The American wife states, I m going down and get that kitty (62). George, her husband, half heartedly offers to retrieve it for her. He was indifferent to the episode. Hemingway advises us that he went on reading and

  • 6. Vaccines Vaccine Benefits Vaccines should be required for children and adults all over the United States because of all their beneficial purposes and benefits. According to the article, Dear Jenny McCarthy, Here s How Many Lives Could Be Saved Cheaply By Making Vaccines More Widely Available, Immunization is one of the most cost effective public health investments (Matthew Herper). It takes more money to save a child by giving a vaccine, then to pay for their medical bills when they become sick with a disease or virus. Usually parents when their child is sick they have to stay home and lose hours of valuable money and time because their child is seriously ill. If the parents got their child vaccinated then either the illness would come as strong or not come at all.
  • 7. Factors Driving Germany To War Essay There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to war; firstly due to fear of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a web of alliances, thirdly that she entered war for imperial reasons, and lastly that she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one must consider the degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of encirclement. The entrenched isolation within which Germany existed, to some degree alongside Austria Hungary and lesser so with Italy, and the growing threat that she posed to Britain both financially and militarily, can be said to have driven the web... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially defensive and that what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic victory which would split the entente , showing her desire to break the encirclement. The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge between Britain and France, whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet the Russian threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto von Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against the two neighbours [France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber , who argues that Germany sought to break the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia and provoke a crisis that concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France felt compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an agreement with Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain Germany s quick support of Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple Entente. Yet this idea is not concurrent with Germany s actions towards France. If keeping France out of the war was a goal, then antagonizing her seems
  • 8. Melting Ice Caps Research Paper Coastal cities all around the world are quite precious to the countries to which they belong. Small and large cities on the water can accumulate massive amounts of income for countries, with most of it coming from tourists. Unfortunately, these cities are at risk of shrinking in size as a result of rising seawater levels. Along with less land for those cities to bring in money, it would cost millions of dollars to relocate the buildings and homes built there. Due to rising average temperatures of the earth, thermal expansion of water, along with melting ice caps, is causing the seawater levels to rise, which is threatening coastline cities such as New York City and Venice, Italy. There are many causes of rising sea levels, with one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New York City is greatly threatened by rising sea levels as about 400,000 New Yorkers live within the current 100 year floodplain (Gerken). The 100 year floodplain that Gerken mentions is how much of the city is at risk if the city is to flood. Showing if the city is to flood, or if current calculations of sea level rise is to continue, 400,000 people in just New York will need to find new homes. If this were to happen, it would be extremely costly to the city, and there would be less room for revenue from tourists. The problem of sea levels rising is not only a problem in the United States, it is also a problem all around the world, specifically in Venice, Italy. Any increase in sea levels can pose a large problem for Venice, and the people of Venice are working to find a way to prevent the effects that rising sea levels have. Over the centuries, the city s leaders and residents have dealt with rising sea levels either by demolishing old buildings and erecting new ones on higher, impermeable stone foundations, or by raising the entrances to buildings that line the dozens of canals (Keahey). Keahey states how the people of the city are working together to try to make the rising water levels not do as much damage. They are doing so by demolishing old buildings and rebuilding them on higher, impermeable stone foundations and by raising the entrances to buildings.
  • 9. The Overpopulation Of Pets According to webmd.com, 46% of people that took a survey claim that they are dog people. They are obviously very popular pets, but we should all know that millions of dogs go into shelters every year and most of them must be put down due to not finding a home. This is caused by overpopulation of dogs from individuals meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of shelters. Puppies bought from breeders are not spayed or neutered and this leads to the reproduction of more puppies. The Animal Population Control article from the American Humane service states, petoverpopulation encompasses two factors. (1) allowing dogs to reproduce with little chance to find homes for the offspring and (2) pets being relinquished by owners who can no longer

Ir The Iranian Identity Images from Iran: Iranian Identity in the Global World Globalization is defined as the world becoming a small global village where all countries merge into a mosaic of one multicultural free communication of information village. Yet, if globalization is supposed to enhance the relationships between different cultures, making the whole world one nation, it drastically fails, due to the many differences between the world s nations. Iran is one example of a country nation that has been detached from the global structure. Iran has since been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will analyze Iranian society, with reference to postcolonial theories employing different approaches. First, I will explain the general idea behind postcolonial theory, specifically orientalism, as it is one major approach in postcolonial studies. Then I will look at some historical aspects of Iranian identity development, discussing various events that have affected the psyche of Iranians as a community. I will focus on Tehran s metropolitan area as it is the major city in Iran. As an outsider to Iranian culture inside Iran I am aware that my approach will contain inherent bias, however, trying to limit this will be my goal throughout the essay. Also, limited space may not permit a long detailed view of all my research, but I shall attempt to convey my main point concisely. The main interest in postcolonial theory is what happens to people during and after colonialism. Splitting in straight lines self from other by purifying the self, is one discussion in postcolonial theory. Naturally, people view each other globally within the concept of Them and Us . One s identity is often defined through encounters with differing cultures. Edward Said is considered the founder of postcolonial theory. In 1978 Said wrote a controversial book called Orientalism. He attempts to explain the geographical division between the West, the Occident and

Intrusion In The Awakening Intrusion In the story, the narrator is somewhat intrusive giving a logical clue in verse 10 and presenting every action in the verse in a pause which slows the actions and activities in the verse. Another intrusion is presented in verse 28. The narrator interrupts the narrative with background information or comments to the implied reader. The narrator appears more covert, giving more information to the character Darius as Cyrus the Persian. The narrator then impresses upon the implied reader the identity or other reference to Darius. Distance Concerning distance the narrator reports both the actions of the characters and their thoughts. It focalizes with short introduction about the activities or powers of Darius by showing that Darius appoints Daniel as one of the three administrators to oversee the kingdom and then planned to set him over all the other administrators. • 14. Fasb s New Revenue Recognition Guidelines My topic is FASB s new revenue recognition guidelines. Revenue could not be recognized under the old model unless the seller had substantially met the terms of the agreement, the seller had delivered the goods or performed a substantial part of the service, the risks and rewards of ownership had passed to buyer, Revenue is the largest item in financial statements, and issues involving revenue recognition are among the most important and difficult that standard setters and accountants face. Revenue recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP are different from those in IFRSs and both are considered in need of improvement. U.S. GAAP comprises broad revenue recognition concepts and numerous industry or transaction specific requirements that can result in different accounting for economically similar transactions. Although, IFRSs contain less guidance on revenue recognition, its two main standards IAS 18 Revenue and IAS 11 Construction Contracts can be difficult to understand and apply beyond simple transactions. Also, they lack guidance on important topics such as revenue recognition for multiple element arrangements. Reporting inconsistencies in this accounting area arise because there are no comprehensive accounting standards covering revenue recognition. Several authoritative accounting pronouncements have addressed detailed, industry specific revenue recognition issues which caused practitioners to use standards in situations for which they were not intended. The first illustration preceding the poem represents two characters: a woman, the opera singer the poem mentions, and a young man. The absence of the third musician in the illustration catches the attention of the reader/viewer, but the reason of his absence is explained in the poem: the Polish pianist is simply slow to catch up with the other two. The most immediate questions that spring to mind are What is that Put Outer? Despite the name existing as an oxymoron, many believe this hydrate could prove to be the savior for the earth s fuel problems. However, given current research this supposedly useful source of natural gascould prove even more detrimental towards the environment than carbon dioxide. What must first be noted is that methane clathrate is a solid hydrate compound. A hydrate is typically a crystalline compound in which water molecules are chemically bound to another element.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Increase in temperature or a drop in pressure would cause it to dissociate rapidly, causing the ice to melt allowing the release gas, which would cause problems not only towards global warming, but also their solid existence makes them a source of support. Not only that, but melting a single cubic meter block of this ice would release 160 cubic meters of harmful methane, which is much worse than carbon dioxide ( Methane Hydrate , 2014). Any form of retrieval technology used must be careful to capture all the gas, especially those found in the Arctic, because if that reserve is lost, it would continually discharge gas for an unknown amount of time, and as noted before any release of gas proves to be extremely detrimental (Niiler, 2013). He disregards some satire, keen and critical in favor of Pyramus and Thisbe, in fact. (V.1.58) One would think that, as the representative of cool reason, Theseus would opt to listen to something less fanciful, but he belies his own position against the imagination and chooses an airy nothing instead. (V.1.17) It is in this direct contradiction that Shakespeare cinches the irony of Theseus. Even so, once he has chosen Pyramus and Thisbe, Theseus maintains his stand: the best in this kind [plays] are but shadows. (V.1.224) If this were true, and he believed it, why would he then choose a shadow for entertainment? Why not choose something more real, something that has more of an effect on the world? The simple answer is that plays themselves do affect the world. For even this shadow, Pyramus and Thisbe, does in the end draw some emotion from its watchers Theseus says this passion, and the death of a dear friend, would go near to make a man look sad. (V.1.303) Hippolyta furthers his sentiment, adding Beshrew my heart but I pity the man. (V.1.305) If the worst of plays can draw such emotion, then plays hold power indeed. INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE OF INTERNATIONAL RECRUITERS37 Literature Review Studies of intercultural competence over the past thirty years attempt to measure the success or growth of an individual s knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to other cultures (Sinicrope, Norris Watanabe, 2007). Global learning outcomes such as intercultural communication skills, intercultural adaptability, intercultural sensitivity, intercultural maturity, and intercultural competence are skills that universities feel are important to thrive in a diverse society where effective interactions with people from other cultures is necessary (Deardorff, 2011; Fantini, Arias Galicia, Guay, 2001; Trede, Bowles Bridges, 2013; Williams, 2005). Consequently,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Educators need to justify program success by demonstrating annual increases in study abroad participation numbers in addition to providing quality measures related to cultural learning as well (Engle Engle, 2003; Medina LГіpez Portillo, 2004). Ideally, students participating in a study abroad experience will gain an appreciation of their own culture as well as develop sensitivity towards culturally distinct others (Maharaja, 2009). Students who interact with people from diverse backgrounds will hopefully accept cultural diversity and overcome negative stereotypes (Dong, Day, Collaco, 2008). Scholars often associate cultural competency with the skills and behaviors gained as individuals develop more complex levels of cultural sensitivity (HernГЎndez Kose, 2012, p. 514). Cultural sensitivity is one of the key ingredients needed to understand and engage in relationships with those from others from dissimilar backgrounds (HernГЎndez Kose, 2012). Numerous assessment tools, ranging from simple short surveys to more complex behavioral and performance evaluations, attempt to measure intercultural competence (Matsumoto Hwang, 2013; Sinicrope et al., 2007). Historically, study abroad administrators focused on program logistics, staffing, safety matters, and recruiting instead of

The Supreme Court s Court The Supreme Court s ruling to allow same sex marriage has been a big change in this country and a huge victory for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transexual) community. The ruling has changed millions of American s lives and touched even more. In fact, my manager is a lesbian legally married and being around them, for even a short amount of time, makes it obvious how happy they are to be married. As a religious man, I feel that it is unusual for me to support same sex marriage. Be that as it may, after observing my manager with her wife and considering how many other couples in the LGBT community could experience such happiness, there is no way that I could agree with denying them the right to marry their loved ones. When I assess the situation, it simply comes down to letting Americans live the lifestyle that they desire (within rationality) and putting them in the best position to live happily. I think equal opportunity marriage does that very well. As big of a step in the right direction as equal opportunity marriage is for the LGBT community, there is still more steps to take. They still have many social issues that they have to deal with such as discrimination and a lack of acceptance from our fellow Americans. Acceptance is always huge for a minority group and discrimination is something that nobody wants to endure. The problem is that often, people don t consider the negative effects that they have on others. A study was done on students in 2009 on the

According to John Collins Harvey, a senior research scholar and professor emeritus of medicine at Georgetown University, feeding tubes should be removed from patients in PVS because there is no hope for recovery. Harvey explains that the cerebral cortex the area of the brain that controls conscious thought, language, and sensory perception has been irreparably damaged by a lack of oxygen (Harvey, 2004). However, recent studies on DOC have revealed the difficulty of diagnosing PVS, especially because a few PVS patients recovered consciousness and demonstrated awareness as a result of drug therapies and functional imaging studies (Fisher Appelbaum, 2010). Obviously, these patients were not in PVS, an irreversible condition. The awakening of persons after the administration of specific medications brings attention to the possibility that VS is often over diagnosed (Sara Pistoia, 2010). The differential diagnosis of disorders of consciousness is challenging. The rate of misdiagnosis is approximately 40%, and new methods are required to complement bedside testing, particularly if the patient s capacity to show behavioral signs of awareness is diminished (Monti, Vanhaudenhuyse, Coleman, Boly, 2010, para. 1). The Issue of Death The definition of death is another issue paramount to this discussion. Robert Rakestraw, professor of theology at Bethel Theological Seminary in his article on this very subject

As in the case of its sister crisis (the Great Depression), many scholars acknowledge that before this cataclysm struck, the preceding economy did in fact experience a boom period. Most critics are also in accordance that the trigger of this crisis had to involve the subprime mortgage bubble which collapsed in the United States however, that alone could not represent the exact causality of this crisis. Various factors Bernanke describes included; banks overreliance on short term wholesale funding, an over dependence on rating agencies, shortcomings in private sector risk management, excessive leverage on the part of households, businesses and financial firms as well as an overall failure of existing regulatory practices worldwide such as statutory gaps in regulation on special purpose vehicles (Bernanke). The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. Several Agile techniques can be used to achieve this in software development, making LSD and Agile similar at first glance (Austad, 2011) . Defer Commitment By deferring critical/irreversible, you keep your options open for as long as possible (Liker, 2005). Pros/Cons Pros o Delivering the product early means that the development team can deliver more functionality in a shorter period of time, hence enabling more projects to be delivered. o Empowerment of the development team helps in developing the decision making ability of the team members which in turn creates more motivation among team members ( Top 12 Software Development Methodologies And Its Advantages/Disadvantages , 2014). On the contrary, Eakins piece was painted in 19th century America during the realist movement to memorialize a retiring professor. Rather morbid in his interpretation of the event, Rembrandt sought to reproduce the curiosity and surprise he witnessed through the use of an asymmetrical pyramid so that no face is hidden. This sort of asymmetry is characteristic of the Baroque period. There is no truer adaptation of a Baroque painting than this. During this time there were great revelations of science which catapulted further interest in the sciences. The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp portrays a scientific discovery. The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Images with higher similarity than threshold are returned as an output. System which uses the content of the object for Information Retrieval is the CBIR. There are many applications of Content Based Information Retrieval. Image retrieval is one of the applications of CBIR. Few applications of CBIR are art collections, architectural and engineering design, crime prevention, Defense, Face detection etc. Mostly CBIR is applied on the Multimedia data. CBIR faces some problems. The trouble with the technique is the issue of high dimensionality. With the increase in the dimensionality CBIR becomes time consuming system and highly computation bound. Also with variety of applications of CBIR, there is need to preserve the privacy of user interest. A. Need of the Privacy Preservation in CBIR Privacy can be outlined as The quality of being secluded from the presence or view of others .
