A View From Mount Ritter, By Joseph T. O Conner
The Aftertaste of Codes There are times in our lives in which certain events change a part of us,
either emotionally, physically or mentally. In our own meaningful way, we have a storm like O
Conner, in which we go through an impactful change. In A View from Mount Ritter , Joseph T.
O Conner encounters a harsh stormy day in Mount Ritter, full of lighting, thunder, and heavy
rain. Joseph O Conner was a student who neglected the need to study and ignored a helping
hand. To O Conner, this experience of being in a state of facing danger made him reflect his life
after high school. After facing the storm in the Sierra Nevada, O Conner cleared his mind and
came to the realization that he was stubborn for never studying and prioritizing his dream of
playing professional soccer. After the eastern Sierras wiped out the dark clouds that blurred (O
Conner)O Conner s vision, he became a new person by improving his grades and making it to
his first honor roll. Not only did O Conner improve his grades, but wants to graduate and go to
community college instead of becoming a professional soccer player. Actions are derived from our
instincts, thoughts and emotions in which we perform. They are seen by those that surround us
and reveal part of our identity. Words are powerful, but can be confusing and be interpreted
differently. It was in the summer of 2013 when I had my own little storm. I took a trip to Europe
with my best friend Kimberly, her mother and little brother Sammy, along with

Gender And Student Gender
The effects of student and professor gender on students willingness to take a class
With the pressures of successfully completing required classes, college students try to find
professors that align with their strengths. With resources available, such as teacher evaluations
and ratemyprofessor.com, it is possible to get a sense of what a professor will be like before
registering to take the class. Students can learn how a professor structures their classes, whether
other students believed the professor was a hard grader, or simply a hard teacher overall. Some
students evaluate the professors on their personalities and if they were engaging enough with the
students. While some students will also include recommendations to take the class with a certain
professor, some students warn to stay away from the professor. With many variables influencing
how a student may evaluate a professor, I wonder what effects can be seen of professor gender and
student gender on their class evaluations and willingness to take that professors class.
Hypotheses
With this question in mind, I formed the following hypotheses. Students give more favorable
evaluations of female professors versus male professors. Male students are more willing to take a
class with a professor than female students. When a professor is female, male students are more
willing to take the class than female students. Lastly, I predict that students willingness to take the
class will be positively correlated with their

English Language Learning Program Analysis
Candelaria Lopez tried to learn English before, but it did not work. She could not always make it
to class on time or at all, and even when she could, it was hard to find the energy to sit through a
three hour session after working for many hours on a farm in New York. After living in the United
States for twenty years, she was still not comfortable holding a conversation in English as a
Mexican immigrant. That changed after the state of New York offered a unique English language
learningprogram for Spanish speaking immigrants. Now, a whole new experience has opened for
the 38 year old mother of four. The program works through phone calls and text messages. It has
provided her to take on added obligations at work, communicate with her daughter s teacher without
a translator, and even help another Spanish speaking familyfind an apartment to rent.... Show more

After each lesson, they answer a set of questions via text message. Learners responses show if they
understood the reading. Those who answer the questions correctly move on to the next unit. If the
problems are solved incorrectly, a program coach calls the subscriber to help. On its website, Cell
Ed offers some courses that cover several subjects, including English language learning. Some
people want to make communicating accessible for those who cannot speak English, and it has
happened through this program. We cannot have people living in the same country and not speak
the same language; that is the equivalent of being in a class with students, but you do not know
how to read. Society should continue to expand this program to help more immigrants become
more fluent in the national language of our

Biography Of Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong was born on August 4th 1901 in New Orleans. He lived in a bad area called
The Battlefield. His family was very poor and he dropped out of school in the 5th grade to start
working. He sung as a street musician, sold coal, collected junk, and more. He worked for a
Jewish family, the Karnofskys, and they became friends. The Karonfskys often invited him over
for meals and encouraged his singing. In 1912, on New Years Eve, he fired his stepfather s gun
at the sky and was immediately arrested. Armstrong was sent to Colored Waif s Home for Boys.
There he received his first official cornet lessons. He started to play with small bands in local
clubs, at funerals, at parades, and more. He earned a reputation as an excellent musician

Spanish In Texas
Spanish is a huge part of the Texan culture, so when I found out I had to take a foreign language
class in high school I figured Spanish would be the best. I have never even vacationed outside the
state of Texas, which leaves me with a lot of Texas culture. However, I still was missing Spanish in
both ways; knowing the language and the influence in Texas.
I now have that part of Texan culture in my life. It s been helpful in history, communicating with
other people that don t speak very fluent English, and understanding what a Texan is. In school
there are even other students who ask for my help. When I teach them it reminds me of the struggle
I went through to be able to understand the Spanish language.
My teacher was a good teacher at heart, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also the teacher s best student because he had the highest grade and wasn t scared to
answer a question. I can t remember ever getting one wrong.
I eventually let him know that I had a serious problem with learning Spanish from our teacher and
if I didn t get I was going to fail. My biggest problems were the eighteen different conjugations we
had to use and how to structure a sentence. There are four present tense, four past tense, three
futures, four conditionals, one simple, and three preterite tenses. He first taught me how to use all
of the conjugations because without those I could never learn how to structure a sentence
appropriately. Once he taught me how to structure a sentence I never felt so confident in my ability
to speak Spanish.
The final eventually came along and I was nervous but not as nervous as I was before. I walked
out of Spanish 1 with an 80 which was far better than my 55 that I started my year with. Though I
was there to learn Spanish; I walked out realizing that it isn t always the student that s at fault for
not understanding a subject. The teacher plays a huge part in making sure the student will
understand. With my teacher; I had a communication barrier that prevented me from understanding
what she was talking about. So whenever a kid looks up to me for help I either do my best to
explain it to them or refer them to someone

Iran Blast To The Past
Iran, formerly known as Persia, is a country that has been molded by various events and traditions.
With their customs they have created a legal system that reflects ours here in the United States but
also keeps their religion and culture involved as well. From 1979 and on, after the monarchy was
abolished, Iranhas developed a strict criminal justice system. Their historical and political
background will be discussed, as well as their policing and court systems.
A Blast to the Past
As mentioned above, Iran was called Persia until 1935. In 1979, it became an Islamic Republic
after the revolution. Monarchy was also abolished during this time. Rewinding back to 550 BC,
Iranian empires were ruling locations such as Egypt, the Mediterranean and some places in Europe.
In AD 633, the Zoroastrian religion was replaced by Islam after the Arabs arrived. Bringing it back
to how they run the place now legally, it is based off of sacred law, which is called Islamic law.
This just means they follow a sacred text to live their lives. They follow the shari a law which is
the body of rules of conduct revealed by God (Allah) to his prophet(Muhammad) where people are

Just like in America, the president s term is 4 years long and they can serve up to two
consecutive terms. They are considered to be the head of the executive branch of power. This
does not mean that they have the liberty to do as they please. Their powers are controlled and
have limits which are made by clerics. Iran has a supreme leader and this person controls all
aspects from the armed forces to major foreign policy issues. The supreme leader makes decisions
on security and also on defense. Parliament is also a part of their leadership system. For example,
the president gets to choose their cabinet but the parliament has to approve. The parliament has the
power to impeach prime ministers, also known as

Warren Tracey Character Description
Warren Tracey is a Major League Baseball player for the New York Mets and I am going to
characterize him. Warren is a cruel person, and these are the activities he does. Warren has a son
named Paul Tracey. Warren is hard on Paul when he goes to Paul s baseball games; he yells at
him if he does not do something right. On the way home, he yells at him the whole ride home.
The second they get home, he takes him in the backyard and hits him. The nights Warren has
baseball games he stays out and drinks. The instant he comes home, he picks a fight with his
wife. Since Warren is drinking, he will hit Paul too. They days Warren is out of town for baseball
games, he cheats on his wife with women he meets at the bar. Warren s wife knows he cheats on...

When Warren is pitching one night, he is playing this rising rookie star named Joe Castle. In the
first inning, Joe hits a home run off him. Warren is threatened by him so in Joe s next at bat he
hits Joe right in the head with a 95 mile per hour pitch. Joe Castle a great rookie who is now
never going to play baseball again because of Warren Tracey. Paul tries to tell Warren that he
needs to say sorry to Joe. Warren does not even listen. Warren ends up thinking for a while about
why he should say sorry. Warren has cancer that is going to kill him. So he does not want to die
with that on his conscience. Warren calls back Paul and says he is going to say sorry. Paul is
shocked that he listened to him. Paul does not want Warren to die of cancer and never say sorry.
Warren goes to Paul and sees Joe mowing the lawn. When Joe gets up, he is half paralyzed and
has a cane. Warren says sorry and he says he never intended to hurt him. Joe says it s ok. When
Warren and Paul are on the way home Warren says I m sorry that I ever hit you Paul (Grisham

Wilson s State Department In Russia Research Paper
Wilson s actions in Russia caused a combination of anger, confusion and praise. Anger arose from
the anti communist wings of the government and society which sought a complete destruction of
the Soviet system. Confusion came from a vast portion of society which did not understand the
entire situation or America s role in it. Praise came from the wing of Wilsonian Democrats and
associated supporters who championed Wilson as, the sincerest and most lucid friend of the
Russian Revolution... Perhaps most shocking was the role of Wilson s State Department in the
course of events in Russia. Wilson s State Department has been argued to have been pro
interventionist and anti Bolshevik. Late in the World War and early in the domestic conflict in

Bolshevik leaders. Speculation as to who the Government considered to the legitimate authority in
Russia virtually ended when in Paris, the Council of Four officially recognized the legitimacy of
the Kolchak Government. This was done after Kolchak agreed to convene an assembly to
determine the permanent form of government, accept the League of Nations post war borders of
Russia, and safeguard the rights of social and religious minorities in Russia. Whether or not
Wilson had a direct intention of doing so or not, he as the leader of the United States Government
was now lending aid and assistance to the Government of Kolchak which was now officially

Network Performance Quality Of Service Project Report
The aim of this project is to investigate and implement a standardised way to monitor and improve
quality of service for a user with devices connected to the internet of things. Although there are
several papers referring to the need for this, any implementation has been on an ad hoc bases for
specific devices/issues and not rolled out as a standard approach.
The approach this project is taking is to implement an algorithm which will monitor a network
and work to improve its quality or service through different protocols. It will not be specific to
just one application and the end goal would be the algorithm working with all types of IoT devices
and handle a range of issues. 2.The Problem
Network performance Quality of Service (QoS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore interesting that this area remains to be unstandardized today.
The researcher in this paper proposes that the problem is responded to by a QoS architecture based
on IoT layered structure. This architecture sets QoS agent in lower layers then transmits QoS
requirements, trying to guarantee the consistency as well as effectively use the existing QoS
mechanisms in every layer. (Duan, Chen and Xing, 2011)
Other research suggests that the integration between IoT and other technologies such as Cloud
Computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to
its inadequate quality of service architecture. (T, S and A, 2015) . We see here the lack of QoS in
the IoT also has an impact on the future and extendibility of the IoT. Within this area of QoS,
which continues to be actively researched, there is still a gap in any currently available solution.
This project aims to contribute to this gap.
3.The Proposed Solution
The proposed solution is to develop a protocol, a set of rules, to monitor application performance
and the real time state of the network in the Internet of Things (IoT). The objective of this ruleset
is to achieve Quality of Service (QoS) from the network perspective and Quality of Experience
(QoE) from the user perspective. This ruleset will support a range of devices and applications in
the IoT. There will also be consideration taken into

The Enlightenment And The American Revolution
The Enlightenment was the root of many of the ideas of the American Revolution. It was a
movement that focused mostly on freedom of speech, equality, freedom of press, and religious
tolerance. The American Revolution was the time period where America tried to gain its
independence from England. They got influenced very much from many philosophers. That will be
discussed throughout the essay. The Enlightenment ideas were the main influences for American
Colonies to become their own nation.
Some of the leaders of the American Revolution were influenced by Enlightenment ideas which are,
freedom of speech, equality, freedom of press, and religious tolerance. American colonists did not
have these rights, in result, they rebelled against England for independence. In the Declaration of
Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote about American s natural rights to life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happiness. These ideas came from the Enlightenment, the ideals led towards the
American Revolution soon after (Fisk). The American Revolution must be considered as an
anticolonial war for independence, not only a war of liberation from overseas rule but a war for
freedom. The American Revolution was a movement to fulfill aspirations to acquire more property
(Morris, 3).
Montesquieu believed that everything was made up of laws or rules that never changed. He wrote
the book The Spirit of the Laws, which greatly covers the importance of separation of power in
balancing the control of the

Kindness Reflection
Your book has significantly changed my view of the kindness in our society. Kindness is like love,
it blooms in some and lingers in others.
I grew up in New Ulm, Minnesota a small town with a deep passion and obsession for their
German heritage with a population of around 13,000. Although with this town, it has a lack of
diversity. The percentage of Caucasians is around 95%, which leaves the remaining 5% to non
Caucasians; I am Chinese and part of that 5% of non Caucasians. Being different here is a
challenge, we have the friendly people that treat us decently, but then we have the people that
would give us a look of disgust or an intrusive stare. Similar to the looks that you got when people
were judging you and your yellow motorcycle. Growing up with that experience made me think that
a large amount of the world was unkind and rude, but after reading your book, I realized that there
was kindness all around the world and it was very active in some.
It was astonishing to see very kind people help you on your journey from gas and food to a night
to stay. Some were homeless, but they still gave you the greatness of kindness. Although it may
have been hard trying to get people willing to be kind enough to give you those needs. I d say it
was challenging, like the challenge I deal with everyday. The task of getting people to not be
rude to my family is a struggle. A simple smile to us is appreciated as much as you getting gas
from someone. We try to be cordial and friendly to

Coral reefs have one of the highest biodiversity of animals in one ecosystem than any others on
the entire planet. Coral reefs are colorful habitats in the ocean, some of which are not too far from
the shore. They are made from skeletons of calcium carbonate and animals, which make a rocky
substance known as coral. Coral reefs are a home to many different types of creatures that live
under the sea, some are unknown to a majority of the human species. Coral reefs are sometimes
referred to as the rainforest of the sea because they teem with life and abound in diversity

Humans cause many of the signs that global warming is occurring daily towards different parts of
the world. Climate change is the main factor towards the rising sea levels, the temperature of the
water, and coral bleaching. The 2014 reports of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change describe coral reefs as the most vulnerable marine ecosystem on Earth, stressing
that they have very limited capacity to adapt to rising water temperatures and acidification
(Dormer). Many of the coral reefs and the sea creatures that habitat there cannot adapt to the
temperature of the water, so many of the creatures will migrate somewhere more suitable. Fish are
an important detail towards coral reefs due to the fact that they protect them from algae and other
bacteria that can harm the rocky substance. By changing the commonwealth of humans, the money
can be spent to establish more ways to support the environment instead of harming it by making
things the society does not need in order to live life. The government could fund more money to
environment helping organizations, and ending the pessimistic ideas that the society believes in.
Commonwealth is an easy solution that can be completed only if humans realizes how much that

Juvenile Law Breakers In The Court Of Law Essay
There exist composite and acute issues that are experienced by the American Jurisprudence in the
magnitude to which youthful records are used to pass verdict upon grown up lawbreakers. There
exists considerations which defends the crimes by youths which states that the crimes are neither
committed are not with satisfactory capability, hence no adequate justice to judge them with the
transgressions during adulthood (Sanborn 1997).
Submitting juvenile files into Federal Court sentencing can result to either an extended sentence or

complicated due to the following reasons:
i.It is evident that violent behaviors varies over the age distribution (Handler, Joel 1965). Crime

During medieval times, a knight was expected to be loyal to those above him, and come serve
them when it was time to fight, and The great peers of the kingdom could call upon minor lords
in their dominions to come fight on their side, under one banner, but they all rallied towards the
King, and disobeying him was extremely frowned upon (Jokinen). Near the end of the middle
ages, this loyalty became a system known as Livery and Maintenance, and contributed greatly to
the military aspects of the Wars of the Roses. Livery and Maintenance was the practice of
keeping large numbers of knights on reserve, essentially a lord s personal standing army. These
knights would wear the Lord s badge and livery, which, in addition to payment for their service,
gave them a sort of prestige, as long as their lord was powerful. Since Lords could raise their own
private armies, they had the choice to refuse support to the king if they did not like him. This was
a massive change in the structure of feudalism, as standing up against the King was generally
impossible without an army. The houses of Lancaster and York would not have gotten anywhere

America And The United Kingdom Essay
Stop leaving all this food. Don t you know that there are kids in Africa who are starving? This is
a common guilt trip of parents in First World countries to children who will not eat their dinner,
and so most in America and the United Kingdom are confronted with the reality of starving
countries early in life. The reminder to be thankful is usually common in households of all
socioeconomic statuses, and so the reality of poverty is often challenged even in households who
do not experience it head on, although they experience it indirectly. The cry of many church
bodies, charities, and political parties is for aidto and economic justice for the poor who are are
systematically disadvantaged. In summation, an individual who has grown up in First World
countries are, no matter the socioeconomic status, aware that world hunger, poverty, economic

Native American Children And The Educational Assault On...
Any people fighting for rights encounter similar threats, but indigenous peoples face many threats
that are unique to them. Struggling with governments is, of course, common across many forms of
protest, but indigenous populations have sui generis interactions with governments, ones that are
often more complicated by differences of culture. Many threats that indigenous people in particular
encounter fall under the header of ethnocidal interactions with foreign parties in which
missionaries, governments, and corporations come into indigenous held areas and destroy their
cultures, often deliberately. These outsiders will often believe that they are helping savage
indigenous people by civilizing them. Common ethnocidal practices include education, land taking,
and religious control.
Colin G. Calloway called the enforced European style education of Native American children the
educational assault on Indian children (383). Native American children were taken from their
homes to be raised and educated in boarding schools in an effort to make them better members of
European American society. In 1880, the Board of Indian Commissioners wrote that as a savage
we cannot tolerate him [Native Americans] any more than as a half civilized parasite, wanderer,
or vagabond. The only alternative is to fit him by education for civilized life (as cited in Calloway
383). The board did not hide their use of education as a way of destroying Native American culture

The Day Of The Locust Analysis
The Daphne is a type shrub that produces a sugary citrus scent that could fill up any room and
even a whole garden. Blooming in February, it produces tiny clusters of white to pink flowers
containing small berries. Sometimes called the romance plant, it is able to attract anyone that
comes across it just by its appearance or scent. However, looks can be deceiving because this
plant is extremely poisonous, containing toxins in all parts of the plant s body like the berries and
leaves which if ingested could cause extreme pain, comatose or sudden death. Just like this small
shrub, many of the characters in The Day of the Locustby Nathaniel West are not as they appear to
be. West uses illusion as a central theme to set the basis of the events regarding the character s true
identity within the novel. Each character being more different from the image they showcase than
the last, they all play a role in the overarching dichotomy that is displayed throughout the novel.

Preliminary Chemistry
Assessment Task 1
Jessica Kuang 11CH3
Question 1: (4 marks)
Construct a timeline to summarise the development of the Periodic Table and the major
contributions made by notable scientists (up to G Seaborg) Question 2: (8 marks)
(a)The elements lithium, sodium and potassium formed one of the original triads used to show that
elements could be grouped . What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of
elements?
Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties
into clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case
of lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean
of lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium
11, Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the
atomic number of the middle element.
(b)Identify two other triads which were identified during the early construction of the Periodic
Table.
The other two triads are sulfur, selenium and tellurium and chlorine, bromine and iodine.
(c)In 1864, John Newlands observed that the properties of the known elements varied periodically
with their atomic masses. He saw a pattern which reminded him of the musical scale and published
his findings as the law of octaves
(i)Why were atomic masses (weights), not atomic

Eponine As Foils In Victor Hugo s Les Miserables
The characterization of Cosette and Eponine as foils in Victor Hugo s Les Miserables advocates
for the implementation of altruism by the rich to help the poor and less fortunate. These two
character foils originate from similar backgrounds and beginnings Hugo even has the two live
together for several years but the stories they later embody are incredibly divergent. This difference
between them can be attributed to Jean Valjeans benevolence when he, seized the handle of the
bucket which [Cosette] was carrying as she went to fetch water for the Thenardiers. This simple act
symbolically freed her from the burden of poverty, as the distressing labor she was doing was
essentially involuntary congruent to the situation poverty forces the

The Ego and Despair in Ordinary People Essay
The Ego and Despair in Ordinary People
Ordinary People by Judith Guest is the story of a dysfunctional family who relate to one another
through a series of extensive defense mechanisms, i.e. an unconscious process whereby reality is
distorted to reduce or prevent anxiety. The book opens with seventeen year old Conrad, son of
upper middle class Beth and Calvin Jarrett, home after eight months in a psychiatric hospital, there
because he had attempted suicide by slashing his wrists. His mother is a meticulously orderly
person who, Jared, through projection, feels despises him. She does all the right things; attending

It keeps resurfacing. Won t leave you alone. Conrad s slow but steady journey towards healing
seems partially the result of cathartic revelations which purge guilt feelings regarding his brother s
death and his family s denial of that death, plus the love of a good woman. Jeannine, who sings
soprano to Conrad s tenor... There is no doubt that Conrad is consumed with guilt, the feeling one
has when one acts contrary to a role he has assumed while interacting with a significant person in
his life, This guilt engenders in Conrad feelings of low self esteem. Survivors of horrible
tragedies, such as the Holocaust, frequently express similar feelings of worthlessness. In his
book, Against All Odds , William Helmreich relates how one survivor articulates a feeling of
abandonment. Did I abandon them, or did they abandon me? Conrad expresses a similar thought
in remembering the sequence of events when the sailboat they were on turned over. Buck
soothes Conrad saying, Okay, okay. They ll be looking now, for sure, just hang on, don t get
tired, promise? In an imagined conversation with his dead brother, Conrad asks, Man, why d you
let go? Because I got tired. The hell! You never get tired, not before me, you don t! You tell me
not to get tired, you tell me to hang on, and then you let go! I couldn t help it. Well, screw you,

`` Mezzo Cammin `` By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow And When...
In the poems Mezzo cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and When I have a fear by John
keats, both poems themes are about the imminence of death and their unfulfilled dreams in life.
There are many similarities in the poem but they are mostly in the beginning of the poems, the
conclusion on the other hand is not similar. In Mezzo cammin the main theme of the poem is the
reminisce of his dreams from the past. Keats poems emphasize a theme of the waste of a
physical life and his fears associated with this waste. The similarities seen in the poem are for
most part in the beginning of the text. Long fellow states that Half of his life is gone and Keats
then states that may cease to be . They then proceed to express their fears of not being able to
accomplish the goals that they had. Long fellows acknowledges his down falls from his past,
stating The years slip from me and have not fulfilled the aspirations of my youth, to build some
tower of song with lofty parapet (lines 2 3). Keats fears are also very similar as he uses the word
Before multiple times, showing the reader his fears of dying before achieving the life goals that he
has. When reaching the second part of the poems, the reader starts to see the differences between
the poems. Keats starts to talk about the Cloudy symbols and the shadow . It seems that Keats
might believe that love is a predetermined life event, seeming as though he is disappointed that he

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P)
GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES (G.A.A.P)
GAAP is an international convention of good accounting practices. It is based on the following core
principles. In certain instances particular types of accountants that deviate from these principles can
be held liable.
The Business Entity Concept
The business entity concept provides that the accounting for a business or organization be kept
separate from the personal affairs of its owner, or from any other business or organization. This
means that the owner of a business should not place any personal assets on the business balance
sheet. The balance sheet of the business must reflect the financial position of the business alone.
Also, when transactions of the business are recorded, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is not done, the financial statements will not measure the results of operations fairly. The Cost
Principle
The cost principle states that the accounting for purchases must be at their cost price. This is the
figure that appears on the source document for the transaction in almost all cases. There is no place
for guesswork or wishful thinking when accounting for purchases.
The value recorded in the accounts for an asset is not changed until later if the market value of the
asset changes. It would take an entirely new transaction based on new objective evidence to change
the original value of an asset.
There are times when the above type of objective evidence is not available. For example, a
building could be received as a gift. In such a case, the transaction would be recorded at fair market
value which must be determined by some independent means. The Consistency Principle
The consistency principle requires accountants to apply the same methods and procedures from
period to period. When they change a method from one period to another they must explain the
change clearly on the financial statements. The readers of financial statements have the right to
assume that consistency has been applied if there is no statement to the contrary.
The consistency principle prevents people from changing methods for the sole purpose of
manipulating figures on the financial statements. The Materiality Principle
The materiality principle requires

dump now about 14.4 million tons of our waste is plastic which is not always biodegradable

being affected and so are we in ways unimaginable like the fact that our fish are ingesting
chemicals that is in the plastics in the sea and we are being fed these toxic chemicals. Maybe if

Another major health risk that occurs when our oceans are being polluted is that the seafood
becomes contaminated with chemicals. Chemicals are beginning to move up the food chain
and soon into our plates. Research and studies show that plastic is absorbed by animals when it
floats in waters and when these innocent fish and marine life ingest these foods it is
endangering the marine ecosystem as a whole. Now that we know how it is affecting us how
does it reach our oceans to start with? Some of it does come from ships that are sailing by but
80% of it comes from land. Most storm drains have a common end point which is into our
oceans. And lets say Johnny is waking down the street and eating a lollipop and he litters the
wrapper. Next thing you know it rains and that wrapper is swept away with the water and into
the storm drain. That drain leads into our ocean and that plastic wrapper is going to be floating
for a very long time. These systems are all a cycle but the problem is the cycle is a one way
street and that trash you threw onto the street will never come back to the street but will stay in
our oceans killing marine life. We can t only blame the consumers for the things occurring in our
world. If less plastic packaging were used and more paper or glass packaging were used it would
really benefit the world. Looking at plastic water bottles many say that they are recycled or
reusable but they aren t always

The two understood citizens rights as well as Parliament s power, effectively becoming an excellent
example of a limited monarchy with consent of the people (Matthews, Platt, 387). This learning led
to the Constitution of the United States and a more secular and democratic political atmosphere in
general.
The English historian Herbert Butterfield once wrote:
The revolution in science overturned the authority in not only
of the Middle Ages but of the ancient world it ended not only
in the eclipse of scholastic philosophy but in the destruction of
Aristotelian physics. The scientific revolution outshines
everything since the rise of Christianity and reduces the
Renaissance and Reformation to the rank of mere episodes,
mere internal displacements within the system of medieval
Christianity. (Scientific Revolution, 6) This may be true however, as Newton said so eloquently, If
I have seen further it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants. (Scientific Revolution, 7)
Without the inquisitive spirit and energy of the Renaissance, or the reglious examination of the
Reformation, the Scientific Revolution may never have had its beginning. Only in the last fifty

The Battle Of The War I

Paper 1
While recruiting men to fight in World War I, the British Army appealed to ideals of masculinity,
bravery, patriotism and nationalism. This form of propaganda was intended to shape the public s
views, and shape their decisions to revolve around political, gender, and social identity. Thousands
of young British men like Siegfried Sassoon went into World War Iwith this idealism. The
bloodshed found there came as a tremendous shock, as the war was unlike the image portrayed;
the modern war was different and horrifying. It was during the First World War that literature from
these soldiers was developed as a result of the increase in education levels amongst the British
soldiers and public in the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using graphic detail and bitter imagery, Sassoon expressed the contrast between the beautiful
nature and the destruction of the war. Sassoon begins by using details and poetic language to
describe the beauty of the surroundings, almost to reflect upon the attractive and heroic image of
war portrayed through propaganda. This then contrasts sharply with the graphic and detailed
description of the battlefield. His clever use of vocabulary was employed with great effect often
using words that had more than one definite meaning. In the third line he describes the sun
smoldering through spouts of drifting smoke that shroud . The word smoldering evokes a clear
image of the sun being covered by this thick infected smoke, and used in conjunction with the word
shroud gives the reader an idea of obscurity within the battlefield. On a deeper level, shroud is a
metaphor expressing the concealing nature of the smoke to hide the reality of the war. The
menacing scarred slope creates a dark, threatening image reflecting the fear these soldiers endured
in battle. Although the poem starts of relatively slow, it builds momentum with each new line.
Sassoon successfully creates a sense of suspense, imitating the continuous anticipation of attack
these soldiers endured. The

Compare And Contrast Essay On Online Education Vs...
What is the Better: Online or Traditional Education?
Currently, there are a lot of inventions and new products in every sphere, and education is no
exception. Instead of attending regular classes people can register for online training, which,
according to many, is also effective.
What would be the best choice the traditional option of education or the acquisition of knowledge in
the vast World Wide Web?
Each type has its advantages and disadvantages that must be analyzed, before making a choice.
Technological process has opened new educational opportunities and changed a way people live and
study. For many years to obtain academic help students need to attend additional classes, go to the
tutoring center or invite teachers to their homes. The emergence of the Internet, advance in
technology made people s lives easier by changing approaches to teaching.
Not so long ago, the only option was to invite a stranger into your home or to meet with him
outside (for example, by going to special courses), but now you can do it online. However, if you
are accustomed to the traditional form of learning, you will need some time to switch to a new
approach.
Perhaps no one can deny the importance of organizing time in today s speedy world. Time
management and well built schedule, in terms of convenience, can play a colossal role for overall
success and effectiveness. Face to face education offers a little flexibility here. Those who chose
traditional courses has to adjust to

Florida. The controversy surrounding the votes in Florida delayed the results of the election until
December 13th, 2000, 36 days from when the polling places opened. [1] The election s final results
are still hotly debated among the public. Ultimately, however, with the evidence present, Bush was
the rightful winner of the election. That is not to say, however, that Gore s team was incorrect in
pursuing the recount, and believing that they had a chance. Two incidents happened on votingday
that triggered an automatic machine recount in Florida: Gore was only behind by 1784 votes,
which was less than a .05 percent difference, and a voting machine malfunctioned. [2] This piqued

Despite the claims that the media threw the election, as they called Florida first for Gore, and later
for Bush, which may have influenced voters decisions, most of the states who still had their polling
places opened were clearly going to vote Democratic or Republican. Additionally, studies after the
election was over also concluded that Bush would have won Florida had the recount continued. A
national media consortium consisting of CNN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The
Tribune Company, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, The St. Petersburg Times, and The
Palm Beach Post paid the National Opinion Research Center, or NORC, to conduct a study of the
one hundred seventy five thousand disputed Florida ballots. [1] While the results of the study
remain somewhat inconclusive, after over 10 months, the media consortium concluded that if the
recount had proceeded as ordered by the Florida Supreme Court, then Bush would have won, albeit
by an incredibly slim margin, with estimates ranging from +430 to +490 votes.

The Study Of Buddhism And Hinduism
The Study of Buddhism and Hinduism
Hinduism and Buddhism are both main religions in Ancient India, both share similar beliefs, but
have many differences as well. The relationship between both religion is similar to those of
Christianity and Judaism. Buddha was born into the Hindu tradition, similar to how Jesus was born
into the Jewish faith. Both religions have goals of teaching happiness and have similar backgrounds
and beliefs. Some argue that Buddhism is just another type of Hinduism, but others argue that
Buddhism became large in India because of those trying to seek happiness in a society in a caste
system. In all, Buddhism and Hinduism are both very two religions despite their commonalities.
Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, followed by Islam and Christianity. It has been
called the oldest religion and is referred to as the eternal way beyond human origins. Hinduism
represents the way of life and faith of the many people in India. It is unknown as to how it came
about, and where Hinduism was originated, but the beliefs of the Hindu s is very different than the
beliefs of the Christians and Islam. Hinduism is the belief in reincarnation, dharma and in three
main gods.
No one knows where Hinduism came from, or who started it. It is thought that Hinduism was
originated from the Vedas. The Vedas, is the oldest written documents copied onto paper in 1000
B.C., but has existed long before that. Hinduism has greatly changed and developed

Comparsion Of Adam And Eve In The Book Of Genesis
Inthe book of Genesis God reveals himself to Adam after he ate the forbidden fruit. God knew
that Adam and Eve had disobeyed him and disobedience leads to sin and sin leads to death and
so that is why he came by to see what they had done. Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through
the Holy Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know
that if we don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves.
According to the Bible, the Lord God took man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and
to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou may
freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the
day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis. 2:15 17 King James Version). This is
important because God had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could
also die. He was given the task to rule over the Garden of even, but there was just one thing he
could not do. Adam was not to eat fruit of the tree of knowledge, because his life would be taken

In this scene a line of black maids are dressed in a monochrome uniform with solemn faces, this
signifies how insignificant they are in the white society. The black maids wore uniforms showing
their class status, symbolising where they belong in civilization while displaying they are on duty.
Post production used includes the voice over of Aibileen narrating her thoughts and what is
happening. The tone is dull and sad, emitting the perception that this period of time is daunting. The
word daunting contains negative connotations such as horrify and scare. A sharp d sound creates
the impression of words such as dangerous and deathly. A slight yellow tint in lighting emphasises
the dim effect, showing that the scene is darker than it seems, meaning that the maids are upset
about their predicament. However, they are obedient, in order to survive in white society, they
must accept the rules set out. Otherwise, they may face the consequences of losing their job which
helps provide funds for themselves and family, they would also risk not being able to find work
anywhere else. This scene shows the discrimination against black people and how downgraded they
were classed, meaning that their pay was limited. Therefore, with the combination of effective post
production sound and contrasting film techniques the producers effectively achieved their goal in
displaying how disrespected black people were seen in

Abraham Lincoln Freedman
Have you ever heard of Abraham Lincoln? Most Americans have, because he was one of the
most loved, and most hated presidents we ever had. He didn t start that way though. He was born
in Kentucky, in a one room, one window, hard packed dirt floor log cabin. He worked hard and
was ambitious, and over time he became one of the most well known presidents of the United States
. According to Russell Freedman, Lincoln was very ambitious and eager to prove himself.
In Lincoln: a Photobiography Russell Freedman claims that Lincoln was ambitious. Lincoln s
family was poor, so he tried to help them earn money. Then, when he was 17 years old, he got
hired by a rich old man to row his son down the river, On a twelve hundred mile flat boat voyage
to New Orleans. Lincoln earned 24 dollars for the three month voyage, which was a lot of money
at the time. He must have been brave, because he didn t know the man he was traveling with, and

him English and grammar. Turning him from a boy who had a country accent to a man who could

Lincoln was ambitious according to Russell Freedman. Lincoln became a lawyer in 1830, then he

into the political business. This reminds me of President Trump, a businessman with no political

During the 1940s to 1950s the government would utilize advertisements to promote gender roles in

extremely limited due to society s pressures and expectations. Similarly, throughout the time period
society regarded women as inferior, however despite the expectations of society many women

A Reflection Of Remember The Titans
This is a reflection of two movies I viewed which I feel has connections to classes that I received
while attending Warrant Officer Intermediate Level Education (WOILE). The two movies I chose
to watch and pull my inspiration from are Remember the Titans, a movie based on a true story
from the early 70 s and my second choice was The Replacements, a fiction comedy. Both movies
reflect on leadership and teambuilding, but first, let us get a little background on the two movies.
Remember the Titans, tells the story of a newly integrated high school football team. It takes place
in 1971 in the city of Alexandria, Virginia at T. C. Williams High School
. When the school board
decides to consolidate and integrate all the schools in the district, T. C. Williams finds itself caught
up in the middle of racial tensions as both blacks and whites are now attending the same school.
Tension builds even more when the current head coach, Bill Yoast, a white coach, is told by the
school board that he must step down to assistant coach to make way for the newly appointed head
coach, Herman Boone, a black coach. The movie focusses around the football team as both blacks
and whites lean to put aside their race and their differences to come together to achieve a common
goal, and that is to win.
The second movie, The Replacements, is a fictional comedy about a football team of replacement
players put together when the primary team goes on strike. The team, built from a vast array of
cultural backgrounds must learn to come together in order to win three of the final four games of
the season to make it to the playoffs. At first, they are unorganized and have no clear direction, but
that soon changes after a bar brawl that lands the whole team in jail.
Both movies reflect how weak and/or strong leadership can effect a team and its mission, in this
case, the mission is to win games and move onto the championships. When coaches Boone Yoast
first come together their leadership styles as well as their respect for each other clash. When the
team arrives at their training camp, Coach Boone gets to work quickly by setting a high set of
standards and expectations ( drop a pass, run a mile, miss a tackle, run a mile ) . This does

Analysis Of Wolfgang Schivelbusch s Tastes Of Paradise
In this book, Tastes of Paradise, Wolfgang Schivelbusch, takes us through the history of the most
familiar substances used in the central ages such as tobacco, tea, alcohol, opium, coffee and
chocolate. Schivelbusch talks about how those substances have been first introduce to the Western
nations and the way they have become acquainted and how they affected the festive shape of these
international locations. It doesn t really talk about the substances themselves, but instead their
conversable rely in the European lifestyle. Those dishes have become a route for the oligarchy to
specificity itself from the lower classes. Through history, it is seen that trade routes form when

Like alcohol, smoking most effective drop fulfilling after one receives custom to it. If coffee makes
a person wakeful, mentally alert, and at worst, nervous, the effect of tobacco was described from
the very first by reference to calm, placidity, contemplation, concentration, etc. (p. 107).
Schivelbusch also writes of the approaches in which smoking was associated to worker s rights
and democracy actions in Germany. The primary and most unsparing confederacy in Germany
changed into seemingly fashioned by way of the cigar rollers. Thus, it was a curious twist in its
symbolic history that the cigar should later have come to be a status symbol for capitalist
entrepreneurs (p. 129).
The caffeine in coffee become an ethical increase over alcohol and have become a fashionable
social beverage. It was interesting to see how it started off as this very exotic drink only for the
upper class and then turned into what it is now. Coffee is a very fashionable drink that does not
cost much that many have led their days with in today s society.
Coffee functioned as a historically significant drug. It spread through the body and achieved
chemically and pharmacologically what rationalism and the Protestant ethic sought to fulfill
spiritually and ideologically. With coffee, the principle of rationality entered human psychology,
transforming it to conform with its own requirements. The result was a body which functioned in

As you transition from using the spoon to your hands when mixing the dough, you will notice that
the dough will end up with a rugged look. Be sure to clean the sides of the bowl with the dough.
With the dough ready, it is now time to move on to kneading.
Step 3: KNEADING THE DOUGH To begin kneading, you must lightly sprinkle flour on a wooden
surface or counter, about 1 tablespoon. Cover your hands with flour and plop the dough on the
working area. Hold one side of the dough with one hand and stretch the top portion of the dough
with another hand without tearing it. Turn the dough and continue kneading for 8 to 10 minutes
until the dough is smooth and stretchy. Add flour to the dough if it still is sticky and toss it 2 to 3
times during kneading.
Step 4: FERMENTING THE DOUGH Once the dough has been kneaded, it is time to allow the
yeast in the bread to rise. First, settle the dough in the original mixing bowl that is lightly spread
with flour. Tapping the dough with lightly buttered fingers is not necessary, but will prevent the
dough s surface from drying up. With a dry towel, cover the bowl and place the it in a warm area
around 80 85oF for 1 hour. The dough should be twice its original size once finished rising. A tip
to check if the dough has risen is to poke one finger into the dough. If the dent stays, the dough has
properly risen.
Step 5: SHAPING AND SECOND RISING With the dough

Discovery Of The Nazi Death Camps
Discovery of the Nazi death camps at the end of World War II sent shockwaves throughout the
entire world and brought to question how civilized humans could participate in the atrocity of
what is now known as the Holocaust. Although from the beginning, it was clear Nazi s believed
Jews and other races were inferior to the Aryan race, the idea of genocide was not their original
intent. How then were German soldiers able to exterminate Jews without question? Christopher
Browning in his book Ordinary Men dives into the human psyche to try and recreate the
possibilities in which the German soldier were able to carry out these horrifying acts. Easiest of
Browning possibilities to understand why the Germans were capable of these terrible acts are the
fundamentals of a race war. Initialized by seeing a fellow comrade falling to the onslaught of the
enemy and engulfing them with hate, thus allowing the killing of a certain race without empathy
for their actions. However, how could this mentality be contributed to the Reserve Police Battalions
when they had never encountered combat? Early on in the war [they] felt the need to provide
justification. They were shot, he explained, because they had been encountered without the Jewish
star during roundup... (Browning 16) justification described as that is not from men feeling racial
hate toward the Jews. These men were not completely morally certain of their actions and in order
to justify it in their heads created shaky logic as to

Descriptive Essay On A Lucid Dream
Connected Alexis tastes the salty breeze around her as she begins to open her eyes, but all she
can feel is her eyes drooping back down. She tries to pull up her fluffy pink blanket, that she
received on her birthday the previous week before. There is nothing there when she reaches for
it. Alexis rubs her eyes and repeatedly blinks, she sees water. Wide awake now, she stands up
and gasps. In front of her is the crystal clear, coral blue ocean. Immediately her jaw drops she is
in shock, she has no clue where she is or how she got there. Bright green palm trees and the baby
blue sky surrounds her. She brushes off the sticky sand on her pale legs and arms. The first thing
that comes to her mind is if she is in another lucid dream. She reacts by pinching herself
continuously. Nothing. Alexis, now hyperventilating, paces around in circles with her hands on
her forehead. She then calms herself down and follows the rhythmic sound of a smooth
waterfall. On the way there she observes majestic birds flying towards the towering trees. In the
short time period Alexis walks, she sees every single kind of exotic flower. She feels the warm
sun rays shining down her back as she sprints towards the waterfall. She expects mermaids to
pop out of the water as she rests her bare feet in the water. She enjoys the giant pool filled with
ice cold water as that is the only things she s familiar with. While washing her face and hair, out
of the corner of her eyes, she sees a trail. As she hikes up the trail she notices that it is man made.
Alexis continues following path, she listens to the sounds of footprints and heavy breathy. She
has the impression that someone is watching her. Out of nature, she sprints. She has an immense
burst of strange energy, and not the good kind, a negative spirit. I lost them for sure , Alexis
murmurs to herself as she slows down. The trail pauses in front of wood stairs with detailed
designs on the railing. She looks up so high that her neck is in risk of breaking. She spots a
breathtaking treehouse, made of dark wood blending in with the trees around it. Mesmerized by the
sight she runs up the steep, sturdy stairs. As she reaches the edge of the porch, she cautiously looks
through the window.

How Quebec Affected Canada
Quebec has made mistakes like building the Hydro Quebec without the permission of natives on
traditional land and by doing so, Quebec started to believe that if they left Canada in the first place,
they could make their own laws without having to forcefully agree to the Constitutional Act. Even
though Quebecis in Canada, they are not recognized as well as the English Canadians because they
are the ones who lead/control everything going on in the country no matter how many prominent
people come from Quebec or how many Quebecois soldiers risk their lives at war for Canada.
Canada has brought more harm to Aboriginals because they have purposely tried to discriminate
other groups that are not English or British to get rid of them.(Research Publications, N/A, 54)....

  • 2. A View From Mount Ritter, By Joseph T. O Conner The Aftertaste of Codes There are times in our lives in which certain events change a part of us, either emotionally, physically or mentally. In our own meaningful way, we have a storm like O Conner, in which we go through an impactful change. In A View from Mount Ritter , Joseph T. O Conner encounters a harsh stormy day in Mount Ritter, full of lighting, thunder, and heavy rain. Joseph O Conner was a student who neglected the need to study and ignored a helping hand. To O Conner, this experience of being in a state of facing danger made him reflect his life after high school. After facing the storm in the Sierra Nevada, O Conner cleared his mind and came to the realization that he was stubborn for never studying and prioritizing his dream of playing professional soccer. After the eastern Sierras wiped out the dark clouds that blurred (O Conner)O Conner s vision, he became a new person by improving his grades and making it to his first honor roll. Not only did O Conner improve his grades, but wants to graduate and go to community college instead of becoming a professional soccer player. Actions are derived from our instincts, thoughts and emotions in which we perform. They are seen by those that surround us and reveal part of our identity. Words are powerful, but can be confusing and be interpreted differently. It was in the summer of 2013 when I had my own little storm. • 3. Gender And Student Gender The effects of student and professor gender on students willingness to take a class With the pressures of successfully completing required classes, college students try to find professors that align with their strengths. With resources available, such as teacher evaluations and ratemyprofessor.com, it is possible to get a sense of what a professor will be like before registering to take the class. Students can learn how a professor structures their classes, whether other students believed the professor was a hard grader, or simply a hard teacher overall. Some students evaluate the professors on their personalities and if they were engaging enough with the students. While some students will also include recommendations to take the class with a certain professor, some students warn to stay away from the professor. With many variables influencing how a student may evaluate a professor, I wonder what effects can be seen of professor gender and student gender on their class evaluations and willingness to take that professors class. Hypotheses With this question in mind, I formed the following hypotheses. Students give more favorable evaluations of female professors versus male professors. Male students are more willing to take a class with a professor than female students. When a professor is female, male students are more willing to take the class than female students. Lastly, I predict that students willingness to take the class will be positively correlated with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Network Performance Quality Of Service Project Report The aim of this project is to investigate and implement a standardised way to monitor and improve quality of service for a user with devices connected to the internet of things. Although there are several papers referring to the need for this, any implementation has been on an ad hoc bases for specific devices/issues and not rolled out as a standard approach. The approach this project is taking is to implement an algorithm which will monitor a network and work to improve its quality or service through different protocols. It will not be specific to just one application and the end goal would be the algorithm working with all types of IoT devices and handle a range of issues. 2.The Problem Network performance Quality of Service (QoS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is therefore interesting that this area remains to be unstandardized today. The researcher in this paper proposes that the problem is responded to by a QoS architecture based on IoT layered structure. This architecture sets QoS agent in lower layers then transmits QoS requirements, trying to guarantee the consistency as well as effectively use the existing QoS mechanisms in every layer. (Duan, Chen and Xing, 2011) Other research suggests that the integration between IoT and other technologies such as Cloud Computing is in its infantile phase and it has not been extended to all application domains due to its inadequate quality of service architecture. (T, S and A, 2015) . We see here the lack of QoS in the IoT also has an impact on the future and extendibility of the IoT. Within this area of QoS, which continues to be actively researched, there is still a gap in any currently available solution. This project aims to contribute to this gap. 3.The Proposed Solution The proposed solution is to develop a protocol, a set of rules, to monitor application performance and the real time state of the network in the Internet of Things (IoT). The objective of this ruleset is to achieve Quality of Service (QoS) from the network perspective and Quality of Experience (QoE) from the user perspective. • 11. The Enlightenment And The American Revolution The Enlightenment was the root of many of the ideas of the American Revolution. It was a movement that focused mostly on freedom of speech, equality, freedom of press, and religious tolerance. The American Revolution was the time period where America tried to gain its independence from England. They got influenced very much from many philosophers. That will be discussed throughout the essay. The Enlightenment ideas were the main influences for American Colonies to become their own nation. Some of the leaders of the American Revolution were influenced by Enlightenment ideas which are, freedom of speech, equality, freedom of press, and religious tolerance. American colonists did not have these rights, in result, they rebelled against England for independence. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote about American s natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These ideas came from the Enlightenment, the ideals led towards the American Revolution soon after (Fisk). The American Revolution must be considered as an anticolonial war for independence, not only a war of liberation from overseas rule but a war for freedom. The American Revolution was a movement to fulfill aspirations to acquire more property (Morris, 3). Montesquieu believed that everything was made up of laws or rules that never changed. Near the end of the middle ages, this loyalty became a system known as Livery and Maintenance, and contributed greatly to the military aspects of the Wars of the Roses. Livery and Maintenance was the practice of keeping large numbers of knights on reserve, essentially a lord s personal standing army. These knights would wear the Lord s badge and livery, which, in addition to payment for their service, gave them a sort of prestige, as long as their lord was powerful. Since Lords could raise their own private armies, they had the choice to refuse support to the king if they did not like him. Struggling with governments is, of course, common across many forms of protest, but indigenous populations have sui generis interactions with governments, ones that are often more complicated by differences of culture. Many threats that indigenous people in particular encounter fall under the header of ethnocidal interactions with foreign parties in which missionaries, governments, and corporations come into indigenous held areas and destroy their cultures, often deliberately. These outsiders will often believe that they are helping savage indigenous people by civilizing them. Common ethnocidal practices include education, land taking, and religious control. Colin G. Calloway called the enforced European style education of Native American children the educational assault on Indian children (383). Native American children were taken from their homes to be raised and educated in boarding schools in an effort to make them better members of European American society. In 1880, the Board of Indian Commissioners wrote that as a savage we cannot tolerate him [Native Americans] any more than as a half civilized parasite, wanderer, or vagabond. What scientific evidence did scientists have to justify this grouping of elements? Johann Dobereiner, a German chemist, suggested the grouping of elements with similar properties into clusters of three triads. He discovered that when arranged in ascending atomic mass, in the case of lithium, sodium and potassium, sodium s atomic mass was approximately the arithmetic mean of lithium and potassium. There was also a correlation between the atomic numbers, (Li 3, Sodium 11, Potassium 19) which showed the mean of the lowest and highest atomic numbers equalled the atomic number of the middle element. There is no doubt that Conrad is consumed with guilt, the feeling one has when one acts contrary to a role he has assumed while interacting with a significant person in his life, This guilt engenders in Conrad feelings of low self esteem. • 26. `` Mezzo Cammin `` By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow And When... In the poems Mezzo cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and When I have a fear by John keats, both poems themes are about the imminence of death and their unfulfilled dreams in life. There are many similarities in the poem but they are mostly in the beginning of the poems, the conclusion on the other hand is not similar. In Mezzo cammin the main theme of the poem is the reminisce of his dreams from the past. Keats poems emphasize a theme of the waste of a physical life and his fears associated with this waste. The similarities seen in the poem are for most part in the beginning of the text. Long fellow states that Half of his life is gone and Keats then states that may cease to be . They then proceed to express their fears of not being able to accomplish the goals that they had. Long fellows acknowledges his down falls from his past, stating The years slip from me and have not fulfilled the aspirations of my youth, to build some tower of song with lofty parapet (lines 2 3). Keats fears are also very similar as he uses the word Before multiple times, showing the reader his fears of dying before achieving the life goals that he has. When reaching the second part of the poems, the reader starts to see the differences between the poems. Keats starts to talk about the Cloudy symbols and the shadow . It seems that Keats might believe that love is a predetermined life event, seeming as though he is disappointed that he might of missed out on an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is based on the following core principles. In certain instances particular types of accountants that deviate from these principles can be held liable. The Business Entity Concept The business entity concept provides that the accounting for a business or organization be kept separate from the personal affairs of its owner, or from any other business or organization. This means that the owner of a business should not place any personal assets on the business balance sheet. The balance sheet of the business must reflect the financial position of the business alone. Also, when transactions of the business are recorded, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this is not done, the financial statements will not measure the results of operations fairly. The Cost Principle The cost principle states that the accounting for purchases must be at their cost price. This is the figure that appears on the source document for the transaction in almost all cases. There is no place for guesswork or wishful thinking when accounting for purchases. The value recorded in the accounts for an asset is not changed until later if the market value of the asset changes. It would take an entirely new transaction based on new objective evidence to change the original value of an asset. There are times when the above type of objective evidence is not available. For example, a building could be received as a gift. In such a case, the transaction would be recorded at fair market value which must be determined by some independent means. The Consistency Principle The consistency principle requires accountants to apply the same methods and procedures from period to period. When they change a method from one period to another they must explain the change clearly on the financial statements. The readers of financial statements have the right to assume that consistency has been applied if there is no statement to the contrary. The consistency principle prevents people from changing methods for the sole purpose of manipulating figures on the financial statements. Another major health risk that occurs when our oceans are being polluted is that the seafood becomes contaminated with chemicals. Chemicals are beginning to move up the food chain and soon into our plates. Research and studies show that plastic is absorbed by animals when it floats in waters and when these innocent fish and marine life ingest these foods it is endangering the marine ecosystem as a whole. Now that we know how it is affecting us how does it reach our oceans to start with? Some of it does come from ships that are sailing by but 80% of it comes from land. Most storm drains have a common end point which is into our oceans. And lets say Johnny is waking down the street and eating a lollipop and he litters the wrapper. Next thing you know it rains and that wrapper is swept away with the water and into the storm drain. That drain leads into our ocean and that plastic wrapper is going to be floating for a very long time. Thousands of young British men like Siegfried Sassoon went into World War Iwith this idealism. Sassoon begins by using details and poetic language to describe the beauty of the surroundings, almost to reflect upon the attractive and heroic image of war portrayed through propaganda. This then contrasts sharply with the graphic and detailed description of the battlefield. His clever use of vocabulary was employed with great effect often using words that had more than one definite meaning. In the third line he describes the sun smoldering through spouts of drifting smoke that shroud . The word smoldering evokes a clear image of the sun being covered by this thick infected smoke, and used in conjunction with the word shroud gives the reader an idea of obscurity within the battlefield. On a deeper level, shroud is a metaphor expressing the concealing nature of the smoke to hide the reality of the war. The menacing scarred slope creates a dark, threatening image reflecting the fear these soldiers endured in battle. Although the poem starts of relatively slow, it builds momentum with each new line. A Reflection Of Remember The Titans This is a reflection of two movies I viewed which I feel has connections to classes that I received while attending Warrant Officer Intermediate Level Education (WOILE). The two movies I chose to watch and pull my inspiration from are Remember the Titans, a movie based on a true story from the early 70 s and my second choice was The Replacements, a fiction comedy. Both movies reflect on leadership and teambuilding, but first, let us get a little background on the two movies. Remember the Titans, tells the story of a newly integrated high school football team. It takes place in 1971 in the city of Alexandria, Virginia at T. C. Williams High School . When the school board decides to consolidate and integrate all the schools in the district, T. C. Williams finds itself caught up in the middle of racial tensions as both blacks and whites are now attending the same school. Tension builds even more when the current head coach, Bill Yoast, a white coach, is told by the school board that he must step down to assistant coach to make way for the newly appointed head coach, Herman Boone, a black coach. The movie focusses around the football team as both blacks and whites lean to put aside their race and their differences to come together to achieve a common goal, and that is to win. The second movie, The Replacements, is a fictional comedy about a football team of replacement players put together when the primary team goes on strike. The team, built from a vast array of cultural backgrounds must learn to come together in order to win three of the final four games of the season to make it to the playoffs. At first, they are unorganized and have no clear direction, but that soon changes after a bar brawl that lands the whole team in jail. Both movies reflect how weak and/or strong leadership can effect a team and its mission, in this case, the mission is to win games and move onto the championships. When coaches Boone Yoast first come together their leadership styles as well as their respect for each other clash. How then were German soldiers able to exterminate Jews without question? Christopher Browning in his book Ordinary Men dives into the human psyche to try and recreate the possibilities in which the German soldier were able to carry out these horrifying acts. Easiest of Browning possibilities to understand why the Germans were capable of these terrible acts are the fundamentals of a race war. • 45. Descriptive Essay On A Lucid Dream Connected Alexis tastes the salty breeze around her as she begins to open her eyes, but all she can feel is her eyes drooping back down. She tries to pull up her fluffy pink blanket, that she received on her birthday the previous week before. There is nothing there when she reaches for it. Alexis rubs her eyes and repeatedly blinks, she sees water. Wide awake now, she stands up and gasps. In front of her is the crystal clear, coral blue ocean. Immediately her jaw drops she is in shock, she has no clue where she is or how she got there. Bright green palm trees and the baby blue sky surrounds her. She brushes off the sticky sand on her pale legs and arms. The first thing that comes to her mind is if she is in another lucid dream. She reacts by pinching herself continuously. Nothing. Alexis, now hyperventilating, paces around in circles with her hands on her forehead. She then calms herself down and follows the rhythmic sound of a smooth waterfall. On the way there she observes majestic birds flying towards the towering trees. In the short time period Alexis walks, she sees every single kind of exotic flower. She feels the warm sun rays shining down her back as she sprints towards the waterfall. She expects mermaids to pop out of the water as she rests her bare feet in the water. She enjoys the giant pool filled with ice cold water as that is the only things she s familiar with. While washing her face and hair, out of the corner of her eyes, she sees a trail. As she hikes up the trail she notices that it is man made. Alexis continues following path, she listens to the sounds of footprints and heavy breathy. She has the impression that someone is watching her. Out of nature, she sprints. She has an immense burst of strange energy, and not the good kind, a negative spirit. I lost them for sure , Alexis murmurs to herself as she slows down. The trail pauses in front of wood stairs with detailed designs on the railing. She looks up so high that her neck is in risk of breaking. She spots a breathtaking treehouse, made of dark wood blending in with the trees around it. Mesmerized by the sight she runs up the steep, sturdy stairs. As she reaches the edge of the porch, she cautiously looks through the window. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
