Women Hollering Creek Summary
While reading the Women Hollering Creek I clearly see how patriarchy dominates the story.
Perfectly describing a social system where the male rules and distributes privileges, where men
are the head of the family and women are seen as property, subservient and not allowed to
exercise any control over their own lives, including marital and sexual control. Cleofila is from
Mexico, where she is raised with traditional values in her culture. She grew up in an environment
where she was easily influenced by the patriarch in her life, her father, and after she married she
continues to be treated as property, when Cleofila is being physically abused by her husband
Juan Pedro. Cleofila s life had always been ruled by the men in her life, and was never allowed to
make her owns decisions, or allowed to assume her own responsibilities in order to learn how to be
an independent woman. How many Cleofila s existed around the world and continue to exist,
where they are being oppressed by men, This woman found on the side of the interstate. This one
pushed from a moving car. Always, the same grisly news in the pages of the dailies page 2825....

That would be so easy to say, but, for example, if you give a child a tool that they have never seen
before, would you expect them to know how to use it? In other words, how can I blame Cleofila
of allowing herself of becoming a victim, when she didn t have a maternal figure or any female
figure in her life to teach her how to value herself, and how to be an independent person. She was
raised and influenced by the main figure in her life, her father, who apparently was an authoritarian
person, making all decisions in her life, and her six

A Perfect Date Destination For Shallow Wallet Students
Cannella s A Perfect Date Destination for Shallow Wallet Students It s Friday morning and you
re waiting in line at Taco Bell. You ve decided that pay day means you can splurge a bit on your

a thought awakens in your mind, wedged between your impending dread of upcoming midterms
and that load of laundry you were supposed to do a week ago. How could you have forgotten that

Stop gaping, I m not kidding. You can accomplish that fancy dinner to woo your loved one for
about the price you paid for that video game you got last week. For a normal dinner that might be
considered checking account suicide, but for the occasion you won t find much better. Even Olive
Garden will run you about the same bill.
With your anxiety subsiding, you can finally sink your teeth into some good food. And I will stress
that it is very good food. This meal will come in courses which begin with a light appetizer of
bruschetta to start your evening. Now, I m not the biggest fan of raw tomato, and these little toasted
baguette slices are piled high with it. However, I really enjoyed the tart balsamic vinegar, little
tangy swirl of goat cheese, and yes, even the tomato mound. If this restaurant could get me to
enjoy one of the few ingredients I didn t like, I knew what was to come would be a delight.
Next up is your choice of soup or salad. I can t comment much on the state of their salad mastery
with my fiancГ©e and me both opting to indulge in one of the soup options. Conversely, the
minestrone soup they served me must have been dreamt up by a brilliant chef because that was the
greatest I ve ever had. It was as if someone leafed through an abundant garden to find only its finest
offerings and promptly place them in my bowl. The tomato broth complimented each ingredient
with a piquant aftertaste that left me wanting one

Key Contextual Language Differences Between Japan And...
This case study will introduce the key contextual language differences between Japan and Singapore
and the different language education policies of the two countries. Specifically, the historical
background concerning the use of English in the two countries, the political landscape involving
the role of English, the mentality towards English and lastly the teaching of English. In the past
English was the language of the Singaporean government when Singapore was a British colony.
Since then it has been a wellspring of economic resource. Meanwhile English has never held official
status in Japan and the citizens of japan can make a comfortable living for themselves without the
need for English in daily activities. English interestingly is very prominent in Singapore but has
little use in Japan. Touching on attitudes, Singaporeans are fully embracing English while in
contrast Japanese people still have lingering doubts. Certainly English education in Japan is heavily
criticised however English education in Singapore is commensurate to other English speaking
developed nations. A brief insight to the background of English within Japan and Singapore.
Singapore In 1820 Sir Stamford Raffles acquired the Singapore as a commercial outpost for the
British East India Company. since the acquisition, Singapore has changed (Leitch Lepoer,
Barbara:1989).while Singapore was controlled by British East India Company, English was the
language of the organisation and the settlement s occupants,

Sixth-Grade Math Teacher
Seventh grade mathematics teacher Mrs. Megan Ortinau at Van Buren Middle School begins
lesson planning by thinking about her learning objectives and standards she would like to cover.
She thinks about what she wants her students to take away from the lesson and moves forward
from there. Before beginning, Mrs. Ortinau considers what her students have learned in previous
grades, and she tries to expand on that as much as possible. She tries to compare the new material
to material the students have learned in the past. This can be done by reviewing standards covered
in sixth grade as well as communicating with sixth grade teachers. Also, communicating with sixth
grade teachers can be useful when trying to determine where students will struggle.... Show more

Ortinau s favorite teaching strategy is to relate mathematics to students lives or to get them up
and moving with activities. I have not been present for one of these activities, however, for
example, one Friday she led an activity that was an introduction to their unit on statistics and
probability. The students were broken up into small groups and were each handed a small box
of Sun Maid raisins. The students had to empty the box and count the number of raisins, which
differed from box to box. Then, she created a line plot on a piece of green paper. On the bottom
of the paper, there was a number line ranging from twenty five to forty. The students had to glue
their raisin box above the number that corresponded with the number of raisins that were in
their box. Mrs. Ortinau feels that students remember the lessons more when they are given the
opportunity to make the discovery of a rule or formula on their own instead of just being told
what it is. This can be seen when Mrs. Ortinau ties in life examples into her lessons. For
example, her examples do not talk about Joey buying 700 watermelons, but her examples include
a family of four trying to figure out how much change they will have after leaving a 20% tip on
their $50 bill. This also creates a purpose for their math by explaining that adults must calculate
every single time they leave a tip for a

What Does Henry Fleming Symbolize In The Red Badge Of Courage
John Tunis exposes Henry Fleming s true nature and emotions through examples of motif and
symbolism in his novel The Red Badge of Courage.
Although there are several different motifs in this novel, two main ones that I noticed are: the idea
of becoming a man, or the coming of age, and the constant them of courage. Although the amount of
time from the beginning of the book to the end is only a couple of days, the amount of character
development within Henry is tremendous. At the beginning Henry is a boy who romanticizes and
fantasizes about battles and war, as stated in the first chapter, He had, of course, dreamed of
battles all his life of vague and bloody conflicts that had thrilled him with their sweep and fire. In
visions he had seen himself in many struggles... (P. 5). But, at the end of the book he is a man
who has experienced the real gore and grit of war and as he walks away from the ... Show more

One of the most popular examples of this literary device is the use of wounds, more specifically
the red badge of courage and what it really represents. In regards to Henry s guilt Tunis narrates,
At times he regarded the wounded soldiers in an envious way. He conceived persons with torn
bodies to be peculiarly happy. He wished that he, too, had a wound, a red badge of courage. (p.
55) I found this quote quite profound and selfish of Henry at first. Henry was not injured, and
was that not a blessing? But taking closer consideration I realized that the fact that he did not
have a wound to show on the outside of his body injured his pride quite a lot. He wanted a wound
to prove that he had fought bravely and courageously for his country and for his men, instead of
running from battle. The red badge of courage symbolizes that a soldier had fought and sacrificed
themselves to protect their country and men most importantly, it proves this to other people. And,
not having a red badge of courage made Henry feel

The Illegal Drug Business
The Drug Business Paper
Introduction
The smuggling of drugs has been a part of the society for over a century in most parts of the
world. This form of business has flourished mostly in the developed countries such as the United
States of America, where the demand for drugs is high while there is no or very small production in
the country. The production in the countries where drugs such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis, etc are
supplied is banned mostly under the respective local laws, and therefore the drug trafficking
business is used to bring in the supply in these countries as these markets have the potential of
earning the drug business cartels huge amounts of money.
The history of the illegal drug business in the United States
The illegal trade of drugs across borders has primarily grown because of the increased prohibitions
of drug trading in many countries by their governments and the mass amount of money that is
involved to be profited from in its trade. The government of the United States of America has taken
several steps in its history in order to restrict or end drug trafficking in the country. Socially, the
American culture has been vastly affected by the introduction of drugs in the system. The stance of
the governments that have run the country has been totally against drugs in the last century as the
government aims to get rid of the bad social and environmental effects of these drugs.
As industrialization progressed and new trade routes were being

hard for to judge what is going through his mind, but by reading some lyrics it is obvious that he
believes that he has a hard life, and that death may be the only answer.
The Notorious B.I.G. was a very famous rap star on the East Coast, and grew to
nationwide fame. His lyrics exemplify death even further, as he seemed to never give up his
gangster lifestyle. Before becoming famous he was a drug dealer, dealing Crack Cocaine, so he
was well aware of death as a fact of life. His lyrics were different from Tupac s in that most of
his Death lyrics were about murder instead of his own death, that is until he started to believe that
his death was imminent. Like Tupac s lyrics, his songs are way to graphic to quote here, but
many of his songs had lyrics of him killing and in some rare cases even some sort of threats of
torturing as well. It would be reasonable to believe that it was because of his lifestyle on the
streets that made him think this way, as he did seem to be obsessed with murder and death.
One of his albums was entitled Ready to Die, and it has songs on both side of the
spectrum. The self titled song was about how is preparing to murder someone, and there was

We Must Educate Ourselves Before Passing Laws Restricting...
Biotechnology and genetic engineering involve the cloning of animal cells and organisms, but
they also involve the alteration of an organism in an effort to make it more perfect, whether it is a
crop, an animal, or even a human being. Obviously the cloning of humans or the cloning of human
cells is much different than the cloning of genetically superior livestock or a better quality, higher
yielding food crop, and people throughout the world realize this. The cloning of human beings has
become one of the worst fears in our society todayand for that reason many laws have been passed
throughout European countries and North America in an effort to ban human cloning. For most
people, it becomes more of an issue of ethics and moral values... Show more content on

These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known
as nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as
enucleation in which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a
parent cell. The new nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and
then, the fertilized egg becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg
having been replaced with the genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact
replica, or clone of the parent organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University
in England, conducted further research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s
and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells.
Obviously, this proved that any cells, whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an
organism s intestinal tract could be used to create an exact replica of that creature.
In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was
developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells,
which happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each
new cell to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are

Edward III Leadership
The leadership of the English kings during the Hundreds Years War could have been the sole
reason for English victories and the great monarchs Edward III and Henry V were both master
tacticians. They also had the skill to recognise the need to delegate to military leaders, the most
notable being Edward III s son Prince Edward more commonly known as the Black Prince . He
was a master of military tactics and played a large role throughout this father s campaigns either
leading his own forces or under the command of his father. The Black Prince was a renowned
master tactician and much sort after throughout Europe to fight for money. Edward III s other son,

the war to try and live up to and improve on. In his first major victory, a naval battle at Sluys in
1340, Edward demonstrated his leadership ability when he seized the moment and launched a
surprise attack that destroyed the French fleet. A major factor in the victory was the style of the
English attack. Edward sent his ships [...] two ships crammed with archers and one full of men at
arms. The English ships with the archers would come alongside a French ship and rain arrows
down on its decks, the men at arms would then board and take the vessel . This tactic allowed the
English to simply overwhelm the French ships before boarding them and dramatically reduced the

The Tragedy Of Sophocles Antigone
The story in Antigone shows two things that Sophocles could be pointing which is important
whether may be the family or authority. Readers could not tell whether Sophocles would be
choosing which but most conclude that Sophocles could be siding with family as it talks much
more about it than authority. In the mind of a reader, family is mostly likely the winner as Antigone
cares her brother Polyneices, Antigone denies the rule of Creon, Creon values his son and his wife,
and Sophoclesmight be making a point when he made family important in Antigone. In the story
of Sophocles, Antigone consider both Eteocles and Polyneices equally even though both were
killed each other. But even so, Antigone consider them both as brothers and they are still part of
the family. In the play, Antigone point out that Eteocles is being buried with honors while
Polyneices isn t: Antigone. Listen, Ismene: Creon buried our brother Eteocles With military
honors, gave him a soldier s funeral, And it was right that he should; but Polyneices, Who fought

Should Healthcare Workers Have Tattoos Research Paper
Healthcare professionals, who are trying to get a job, shouldn t be denied based on their physical
appearances. People get judged derived from their appearances, especially professionals with
tattoos. A person gets a tattoo not because he or she is bored or wants attention, but because that
ink represents a significant story in their life. There is nothing wrong with having tattoos when you
re a healthcare professional. Indeed, there are a lot of ways a personcan cover up the ink; for
instance, wearing sleeves or covering them up with a watch of bracelets, so that patients won t
aloof themselves to the employee. It is not a crime to have tattoonor does it show how intelligent a
person is, but the credibility of that person is what matters the most. According to a survey
published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, in 2006 the statistics showed
that of the people who were born between 1975 and 1986, 36% of them have at least one tattoo.

The Destruction Of Jerusalem And The Temple
Point #2 The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in A.D. 70 fulfills Christ s prophecy of
perilous times.
13:
With v. 15 we come to a critical juncture in the discourse. To this point Jesus has referred to
general signs that would characterize the period preceding Israel s collapse. Here in v. 15, though,
he refers to one sign that unmistakably signals that the prophesied destruction is at hand. It would
serve to alert the people of that generation as to the proximity of Jerusalem s ruin. In response to
the question, When will these things be? Jesus now answers When you see . . . (v. 15).
Abomination of Desolation is literally, the abomination that causes desolation. In the OT,
abomination = an object of disgust, hatred, something that causes revulsion; an idolatrous offense
or affront to the true worship of God.
The Abomination of Desolation is referred to 4x in Daniel 8:13; 9:27; 11:31; 12:11. The first and
immediate reference was to the Syrian king Antiochus who ruled over Palestine in 175 65 b.c. He
called himself Theos Epiphanes ( manifest God ) but his enemies called him Epimanes ( madman;
the insane one ).
In 168 b.c. Antiochus Epiphanes slaughtered 40,000 Jews and plundered the temple. He
sacrificed a pig on the altar of burnt offering, sprinkled broth from the unclean flesh all over the
holy grounds as an act of deliberate defilement. He then erected an image of Zeus above the altar.
It was a sacrilege of indescribable proportions indelibly imprinted

The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School...
The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a
homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s.
Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to
provide public, free educationfor children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system
began when two educational theorists and supporters of schoolreform, John Holt and Raymond
Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents
went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their
own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for
high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or
concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development
specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore
making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary
school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social
skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them.
It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home
schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on
their own

Taisho Art
Following the revolutionary Meiji Era, Taisho Art focused on eroticism and outrageous absurdity.
Due to a shift in power from the weakening Emperor Yoshihito, Japanese culture encouraged artists
to further express their own styles and thoughts on Western culture and which strengthened a sense
of individuality and increasing departure from traditional private Japanese customs. The following
ShЕЌwa movement only further increased this individualism. Despite this vibrant cultural merging
of expression that inspired most art during this period, some artists continued to keep art to its
traditional roots simplicity. Two examples of this are found at the Philadelphia Museum of Art;

Totalitarianism In Nazi Germany
The discrimination of athletes leads me to the Totalitarian regime of Adolf Hitler in Nazi
Germany who severely discriminated non Aryan athletes. Hitler s Nazi philosophy believed that
Aryans who were Indo Europeans with blonde hair, tall bodies, blue eyes, and sharp facial
features were a superior race (Anspach, Almog). Hitler said that he shall have no peace of mind
until [he] had planted a seed of Nordic blood wherever the population stand in need of
regeneration (Trevor Roper, Weinberg 358). Hitler believed that Aryans were superior in all

In Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union sports were used in order to bring the nation together and

superiority to promote their party ideals whether that be Fascism or Communism. With the rise of
different parties and warring nations sports in these states became a means of developing a fit
society capable of defending a nation against outsiders. This led to the use of sport organizations

Essay on NASDAQ vs. NYSE
The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations once an electronic

today as NASDAQ or the NASDAQ Stock Market operates as both a stock quotes service and a
stock exchange permitting dealers to trade its listed securities. NASDAQ Stock Market is owned

The NYSE is primarily an auction market where, unlike dealer markets, most transactions are
between an actual buyer and seller. One market maker is designated for each firm, the specialist,
who oversees the market for the firm s stock. All offers to buy or sell the firm s shares at a
specific price (limit orders) are recorded by the specialist in the order book. An incoming order
to buy or sell the stock at the current price is executed either in a transaction with a floor trader,
against and existing limit order, or against the specialist s ask or bid quotes. Such an order is
either filled at the best available quote the lowest ask price in the case of a buy order and the
highest bid price in the case of a sell order or at a price inside the quotes. The specialist
participates only in a small portion of the NYSE transactions, whereas on NASDAQ a dealer has
traditionally been on one side or the other of essentially every transaction and is on both sides of
all inter dealer transactions. From 1998 to 2001 specialists participated in approximately 25 30
percent of all transactions on the NYSE about equally divided between the buy side and the sell
side. Specialist participation in transactions varies from stock to stock, and is inversely related to a
stock s trading volume (Madhavan and Sofianos, 1998).
Martha Stewart s conviction would seem like it would have hurt the company.

The United States Of The State Of New York
Federalist No. 1
General Introduction
For the Independent Journal.
Author: Alexander Hamilton
To the People of the State of New York:
AFTER an unequivocal experience of the inefficiency of the subsisting federal government, you are
called upon to deliberate on a new Constitution for the United States of America. The subject speaks
its own importance; comprehending in its consequences nothing less than the existence of the
UNION, the safety and welfare of the parts of which it is composed, the fate of an empire in many
respects the most interesting in the world. It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have
been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important
question, whether societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not, however, my design to dwell upon observations of this nature. I am well aware that it
would be disingenuous to resolve indiscriminately the opposition of any set of men (merely
because their situations might subject them to suspicion) into interested or ambitious views.
Candor will oblige us to admit that even such men may be actuated by upright intentions; and it
cannot be doubted that much of the opposition which has made its appearance, or may hereafter
make its appearance, will spring from sources, blameless at least, if not respectable the honest
errors of minds led astray by preconceived jealousies and fears. So numerous indeed and so
powerful are the causes which serve to give a false bias to the judgment, that we, upon many
occasions, see wise and good men on the wrong as well as on the right side of questions of the
first magnitude to society. This circumstance, if duly attended to, would furnish a lesson of
moderation to those who are ever so much persuaded of their being in the right in any

To Be a Retail Assistant Manager
Now a days it is very hard to find a steady job. Everything going on with the economy and
unemployment it is extremely difficult. In order to get a stable job you need to have some sort
of knowledge in what you are doing. Even working at a department store requires sone
knowledge. You need to be able to work with customers and be up to date with everything that
involves the store. During my visit to mothers job I acquired some knowledge on how to
manage a store. My mother works at Nordstrom as a Retail Assistant manager. Most of the time
she was on the go and extremely busy. Customers had issues that she needed to solve. My
mother had to fire and even hire many people all in one day. My mother basically runs the entire
store if the manger is not there. In order to be a Retail Assistant Manager you need at least a high
school diploma and good qualifications on your GCSE s. (Retail Assistant manager job

Notes Of A Biology Watcher, By Lewis Thomas
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an ant? Author of The Lives of a Cell:
Notes of a Biology Watcher Lewis Thomas, has. In his essay, he compares ants to humans. He has
a theory that they are very similar. I believe this comparison is accurate one because both humans
and ants act similar in the way they live, both are a stronger force when they work together, and
both have a nature to cause destruction. He accomplishes driving his point home by exposing his
readers to a new explanation of human nature and how related it is to ants human nature. Lewis
Thomas starts the comparison from the very beginning of the essay. He starts with the lifestyle of
both creatures. Ants are so much like human beings a to be an embarrassment.... Show more content

He also hints that actions require consequences and someone taking responsibility for those
actions, ants being superior in this situation. They...Launch armies into wars, use chemical sprays

labor.. (Thomas 1 6). This quote compares ants destructive nature to humans. People cause wars
and we use chemical sprays, and many years ago we captured slave. Even though it is illegal,
humans still engage in child labor, as well. Thomas also states, I am unsure of the meaning, but I
think it has something to do with all that plastic that, and the distance from the earth... But I think
it was chiefly the plastic, which seems to me the most unearthly of all man s creations so far. I do
not believe you can suspend army ants away from the earth, on plastic for any length of time. They
will lose touch, run out of energy, and die for lack of current. As written before this compares the
destructive nature of humans. If a human was taken from their home and their resources, they too
would become home sick and could possibly die. Both humans and ants are meant to live their
natural habitats. In this quote, he also alludes that humans need to take responsibility for their
actions. He in a way holds them

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights
movement. Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other
power struggles among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep
the musical lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off
the 1988 comedy film by John Watersalso named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil
Rights movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a
local television dancing show, The Corny Collins Show, but her mother Edna won t let her
follow her dreams of being famous. Edna thinks she will get hurt because she doesn t look like
the perfect girl they typically allow on the show, but rather a plus sized version of them.
Regardless of her weight, Tracy s dance moves get her on the show where she meets her crush,
Link. With plump Tracy on the show and new changes in the air, the theme of equality reoccurs as
Tracy fights to make the show integrated, causing Negro Day on the show to be an everyday
occurrence. Along with its camp aesthetic, the comedy is full of slapstick humor and parabasis
recurrence to demonstrate the main power

LITERACY IS POWER, DO YOU AGREE? Imagine if you were incapable of reading and
answering this simple question because you are unable to read or write. Literacy is the ability to
read, write, speak, listen, and cogitate; acquisition of these skills is essential for one to

thirds of them are women which equals 15% of the total population. (UNESCO, 2016).

Punishment In Crime And Punishment
Without suffering, there is no hope of achieving redemption. This idea is straightforward; no one
consistently achieves what they want without struggling in some shape or form in order to get it,
and redemption is the goal in this case. Dostoyevsky brings this religiously based concept into his
novel Crime and Punishmentto show his readers how suffering is not only unavoidable but also a
means of achieving something. In Crime and Punishment, A Russian man known as Raskolnikov
murders an old pawnbroker and her younger sister. The work progresses to show that the motivation
behind the murder is, among other things, to test a theory that Raskolnikov has about what kind of
man he is. After an extensive series of subplots and nearly insane moral arguments with himself and
those around him, Raskolnikov turns himself in and finds religionand redemption in a Siberian
labor prison. His nihilistic ideas developed from his educational background and St. Petersburg s
intellectual revolution steer the protagonist in the direction of the murder, but his inherent morality
and his labor camp prison s religious tendencies push him towards the moment of spiritual rebirth
that becomes the true meaning of the work. In addition to including the world around him and his
own life events throughout the piece, Dostoyevsky fills Crime and Punishment with juxtaposition
of characters, irony, and foreshadowing in order to present the importance of suffering and hard
labor as the only means to

Although residents do not have to pay for Well water, the price does not come free when items
of the home need replaced. As the home owner, the family purchases five gallons of water at a
one dollar a piece, throughout the week for meal preparation and drinking. This totals to
$260.00 at the end of the year. Money is also spent on replacing clothes for the family of five that
have stained orange, and in the future, will need to be spent on replacing household cooking
utensils and pots; as well as the shower, toilet and kitchen sink. Past Attempts for Resolution
Previous attempts have been made to fix this issue. The previous home owner had installed a
new Kenmore water softener, in which the owners had to continue to add three 15lb bags of
Morton salt to clear up the iron that was going through the system. This brand of water system
costs up to 600 dollars and once every two weeks had to have new salt put in, which costs fifteen
dollars a bag. This put the home owner spending 90 dollars a month on salt, which turned into
1,080 dollars in a year. Because Brownsville has such hard, salt filled water and was an electric
unit, the Kenmore system broke after a year. This leads into discussion of one of a few options
that home owners can have. Option One: Kinetico Home Water System In order to have a good
working water system that works for this hard water, homeowners in Brownsville could purchase
the Kinetico home water system. The

Voting Age Voting
In the most recent election in 2016 only 59% of Americans voted. Many people today see this as
a major issue; however, a major argument has risen on how to solve this problem. One of the
solutions that have been considered is lowering the voting age to 16 to get younger Americans
votes. However many Americans think that this is crazy to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote.
The clear and only answer to this contentious question is that 16 and 17 year olds should not be
able to vote. As stated before 16 and 17 year olds should not be allowed to vote because sixteen
and seventeen year olds are not mature enough, their opinions can be easily swayed or changed
based on what others think, and they are not educated enough on politics in order to vote. To begin,
Americans under the age of eighteen should not be allowed to vote because they aren t mature
enough. Headcount.org points out that, Minors, according to current laws are not mature enough to
take part in consuming alcohol, [or] tobacco... is votingany different? (Debanno n.pag.) In other
words, if sixteen year olds are not old enough to handle these substances then they are clearly not
mature enough to vote. In the article For and Against: lowering voting age, it states that, 18 year
olds may think that they know everything but they really do not. (Blacklock n.pag.) In other
words, what this article is saying that if some 18 year olds are not mature enough to vote then we
shouldn t even be considering lowering our voting

How Vacation Is A Vacation

Composition I, On line

Come Sail Away Vacation is a time that most people, both young and old, look forward to with
great expectation. Much thought and consideration are usually given regarding the details and
planning of a vacation. Finding a great location with activities and dining options for all can be
challenging. Our family struggled with this dilemma for many years, until we went on a cruise
vacation. There, we found the vacation of our dreams. We had a solid week that we did not have
to drive anywhere, cook, wash dishes, clean anything, or even make the bed. Because one can travel
in luxurious accommodations to exotic ports of call, enjoy fine cuisine, service and entertainment
for an economical price, cruising is the best vacation one can take.
Cruise ships leave daily from locations all over the world and sail to many wonderful ports of
call. One can go to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, or even take a cruise
to nowhere to name just a few. Depending on the length of the cruise, the ship stops at particular
locations and stays in port all day. One can enjoy the best excursion each port has to offer during
the day, then return back on board that evening to cruise away to the next day s location. The only
responsibility one has is getting back to the ship on time.
Cruises can be as expensive or as economical as one desires them to be. It really just depends on the
experience one is

DNA In Crime Scene Investigation
Nowadays, DNA is a crucial component of a crime scene investigation, used to both to identify
perpetrators from crime scenes and to determine a suspect s guilt or innocence (Butler, 2005). The
method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by
Alec Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNAstrands
that differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs),
and developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler,
2005). Since then, DNA fingerprinting has been refined to be an indispensible source of evidence,
expanded into multiple methods befitting different types of DNA... Show more content on

Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher
similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is
around one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary
electrophoresis to separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic
charge, size, or mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency,
which requires that all alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary,
accounting for DNA contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples
that have a similar number of alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in
familial DNA searching to find close biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other
evidence is used to determine relatives, including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family
relationships based on the fact that the Y chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and
his sons; age; and geographic location. The process is based on the principle that first order
relatives have closer DNA profiles than unrelated individuals, and also on the sociological
assumption that criminal tendencies appear in families; according to the Bureau of Justice

Representation of the Feminine in Select Ghost Stories of Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond is one of those rare authors whose writings have been loved and accepted by
readers of all ages and groups. His depiction of small town life in India and of ordinary
individuals struggling to make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense
of appeal and beauty. His stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to
be associated with most of Bond s writing. Yet, there are certain aspects to his writing as it is true
of any other great writer that deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren t immediately
apparent. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by
Bond in order to assess how the character of the female has been represented with a special
emphasis on examining an element of the sinister which seems to be associated with each of these
women. Whether as ghosts or as real, living individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict
harm on other characters which marks them as being decisively dangerous. What this paper tries to
ascertain is whether these female characters can be simply branded as being evil or if there are
actual, justifiable reasons behind their actions which provokes them to act in the ways they do. The
study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions and motivations of these characters who are
evidently more complex than they initially appear to be.

Ethical Dilemmas Of Earthquake
There are about 10,000 earthquakes in southern California every year (USDS). I would think that it
would take a tremendous amount of time to track every earthquake. John, a prestigious
seismologist, has just discovered an earthquake that has the potential to cause a lot of damage to an
area in southern California. He has developed a technique that detects earthquakes that is 80%
accurate. This technique has told him this earthquakehas a magnitude of 7.3. This technique has
also told him that this earthquake is bound to hit one of four faultlines. If the earthquake hits the
san Andreas fault line there is a chance for significant damage, if it hits one of the other three,
there will not be major damage. John has an ethical dilemma. He doesn t know if he should
announce his findings. Does he tell everyone so that they are prepared for the earthquake? Does
he wait it out to see what happens? I can see why John is having a hard time. If he announces his
research and the earthquake doesn t happen then he is labeled as a fraud. If he doesn t announce
his research and there is significant damage from this earthquake then he will feel terrible because
he had the chance to warn everyone who lives in the affected area.... Show more content on

The Application Of Operant Learning
Jane Tien Thuy Nguyen
Professor Shaun Vecera Section 18
Elementary Psychology
05 October 2014
The Application of Operant Learning Operant conditioning and classical conditioning are two
completely different forms of learning. Classical conditioning, discovered by Ivan Pavlov, is
associated with learning through the process in which one reacts to a neutral stimulus. This process
involves matching a neutral stimulus to a stimulus (UCS) that produces an unconditioned response
(UCR), or a reflex, for a long period of time. Over time, the UCS would be removed and the person
being manipulated would start reacting to the previously neutral stimulus, thus becoming a
conditioned, or learned, stimulus (CS) that elicits a conditioned response (CR). Operant conditioning
, on the other hand, is a form of learning where one s behavior is manipulated by the outcome. The
consequences would take a toll on one s behavior and would either increase through reinforcement
or decrease by punishment the likelihood of the behavior happening again. Both reinforcement and
punishment are split into two types: positive and negative. Positive reinforcement and positive
punishment involves controlling one s behavior, whatever the case may be, by presenting a certain
stimulus. Negative reinforcement and negative punishment eradicate a stimulus to increase or
decrease behavior. The differences seen between operant conditioning and classical conditioning are
apparent. In classical conditioning, the

The Problem Of Judicial Review
There is nothing controversial about saying, as Alexander Bickel did in The Least Dangerous
Branch in 1962, that judicial review is a counter majoritarian force. When one gives an unelected
judiciary the power to declare null and void laws enacted by popularly elected representatives,
there automatically exists the possibility that those jurists will rule counter to the wishes of a
majority. To be sure, the existence of this judicial power creates fundamental problems in a
constitutional democracy, and many forests have been felled in the scholarly quest to analyze those
problems. As Bickel observed, the counter majoritarian nature of judicial review is the root
difficulty in the American judicial system. He also noted, however, that this force is an ineluctable
reality. It is therefore misleading to argue that, empirical studies of judicial review have consistently
found that Bickel s difficulty does not actually exist. The difficulty of which Bickel wrote did, and
most definitely does continue to exist. Unpacking the socio political factors that influence the way
in which the difficulty manifests itself in judicial decision making has prompted the
aforementioned studies. However, those studies have never shown, because they never could show,
that the difficulty, as Bickel defined it, does not actually exist. If we view The Least Dangerous
Branch as a monologue on the problematic counter majoritarian nature of judicial review in
America s constitutional

How that memory change is achieved, and how to measure it, are less understood. Advertisers
have long used recognition and recall measures though they have been challenged (Gibson,
1983; Lodish et al., 1995; Percy and Rossiter, 1997). The mainstream of advertising research
rests on cognition as the primary factor of memory change. Advertising has been thought to need
a unique selling proposition, new news, a logical association, or to remind consumers of
memories already in place. The smaller and more recent stream focuses on affect, such as liking
the ad (Biel, 1990; Haley and Baldinger, 1991; Joyce, 1991). This research used [beta] blockers

The Zebra Mussels
ZEBRA MUSSELS DREISSENA POLYMORPHA
Zebra Mussels are small fingerlike size about two inches in length. They have a hard white shell
with black strips. So that s where they get their name. The Zebra Mussels originated from the
Caspian Sea region of Asia. They are fresh water mussel species capable to attaching to hard
surfaces. The Zeba Mussels can tolerate a wide range of environment conditions. Adults can live
out of the water for about seven days.
In 1988 it was discovered that the Zebra Mussels were discharged into Lake St Clair near Detroit,
Michigan. Lake St Clair connects to Lake Huron and Lake Erie. By the next year the Zebra
Mussels traveled from these fresh water lakes into the Illinois and the Hudson Rivers.
Zebra Mussels spread very fast and are now in all the Great Lakes and waterways in many of our
states. They are also in Quebec and Ontario, Canada. These Zebra Mussels spread by attaching to ...

The fem ales lay over one million eggs in one spawning. They are very effcient filter feeders. They
pull nutrients directly from the water at a very high rate. One Zebra Mussels can filter about a
quart of water per day therefore, reducing the amount of phytoplankton available for other
organisms like native mussels, fish and other lake animals. They out compete the native mussels
species for the same resources. The Zebra Mussels filtration of phytoplankton causes a negative
effect from the increased water clairity that results to the ecological structures of the lake
community. However, some organisms benefit from the arrival of the Zebra Mussels. One is the
red breasted sunfish .With the increased clarity it allows in more sunlight which give more growth
that provides food and shelter to other organisms that fish like to eat. But the bad out weighs the
good that Zebra Mussels

Baby B Sailingers War Stories
Baby Bloopers/ Hospital Horrors I had my first child on Pesach, all went swell B H, the hospital
experience was new to me. The War Stories happened by my next two births. I was myself for
Shabbos, my husband went home to host the Shalom Zachar. I was on Percoset at the time this
story took place. By the time I understood what happened, the mess was all straightened out.
When the story traveled around, and got back to me with hands and legs, it turned humorous. I
had the baby locally, and at some point, Shabbos afternoon, nurses scurried into my room and
grabbed the baby out. I tried to ask some questions and, as I got vague responses, I said you just
brought him in why are you taking him back, is everything okay? Apparently... Show more content

When one of the nurses were done she put the child back in the wrong bassinet! It was a holiday
weekend in December, they were understaffed, and the nurse who caused this particular mess
was Pakistani. She was quite nasty and had given me the wrong baby for a total of 4 feedings,
until the error was caught. We were just post 9/11 so being that she was Pakistani the story grew
arms and legs, and was quite humorous to hear people repeat it back to me in its embellished
form that we had sued the hospital, and that it was somehow done intentionally. Another tall tale,
that they mixed up a boy and a girl and that s the only reason it was caught, and that we actually
left the hospital with the wrong baby, on and on went the various versions, people said it with
such certainty and authority. When I finally clued them in to the fact that they were talking to
the person it happened to, they were not convinced of my version was the one they were
referring to, and would say, oh well, maybe it happened to you too, but I know for certain what I
just told you happened to someone, because my friends neighbors cousin told her so.... Since this
happened to me, I have heard first hand from other people with similar experiences, of getting the
wrong baby in top notch hospitals, all I can say is thank goodness it was mixed up with another
frum baby. Some people are horrified, and insist that they would never mix up their baby, they
would for sure realize... yeah, yeah at four in the morning with the lights out, 12 hours after giving
birth, heavily medicated... don t go

An investigation into the factors affecting the...
An investigation into the factors affecting the sustainability of CDF funded projects in Kiambu
County
Decentralization, as a governance theme has been popular in both developed and developing
countries across the world in recent times (Khan, 2006). It is a favoured system of governance
since, according to Nupia, 2006 it leads to high levels of accountability through transparency in
decision making. Faguet and Sanchez (2006) also argue that decentralized systems facilitate
monitoring and access which promotes accountability. World over, decentralizationis known to aid
in the allocation of the scarce resources and the fact that regional governments have easy access to
the citizens due to proximity (Oates, 1972). The advanced knowledge of ... Show more content on

One of such funds is the constituency development fund, created in 2003 through the CDF Act
which has been revised twice since then, in 2007 and 2013.The fund provides money to
constituencies across the country and a CDF committee is mandated to identify and fund critical
projects within the constituency whose aim is to improve the lives of the locals. Success of such
decentralized frameworks highly relies on the existing legal framework establishing the fund and
clearly outlining the functions and duties of each person in the successful execution of duties
related the fund (Bagaka, 2008).However, research has also shown that political leadership has a
tendency of skewed project identification, meant to benefit their people at the expense of the rest
(lijpart, 1999). Citizen participation is thus critical in order to ensure that they do understand the
aim of the fund, criteria of funds allocation and their role in ensuring that such projects are
completed to their benefit. In as much as the current legal framework provides for specific criteria
for establishing the CDF fund, the terminating side is not adequately provided for. In some cases
these funds have not adequately served the purposes they were created for and hence minimal
impact on livelihoods. A fragmented and weak framework

Computer Surfing, And Real Life Experience
It s funny when one takes away 9/11, computer surfing, and real life experience, I cannot name a
time when I watched something forbidden or inappropriate. Let me rephrase that: others might
have called certain movies or TV shows inappropriate for my age, but I was never left with that
sense. Maybe it was because, for all that I was a pretty curious child, I respected when my
parents told me I couldn t watch something. Maybe it was because my parents had a good sense
of what I and my siblings could understand and process at those young ages. Truthfully, I still don
t have a solid answer, but looking back on those old memories has given me an interesting
perspective. My brother adored dinosaurs as a child. He had a laundry basket full of toy
dinosaurs, an entire shelf of his bookcase was stuffed full of dinosaur related books, and when
the Wild Animal Park in San Diego offered an animatronic walk thru of various dinosaurs he
begged to go every chance he could. And his little 3 and 4 years old self loved Jurassic Park. My
parents (read: my dad) watched it with him the first few times but after the fifth or so re watch
they let him watch it alone. I hated the movie and the loud sounds made our baby sister cry, so
whenever he started it up again I would carry our sister to a different room and then I would find
something else to do. My brother never showed any signs that seeing dinosaurs attack and eat
people affected him negatively the worst trauma inflicted was when

Clinical Trials And Observational Studies
The efficacy of ACE I has been widely evaluated in clinical trials and observational studies. In
1983, Captopril multicenter research group investigated the efficacy of Captopril in a 92 cohort
with heart failure refractory to digitalis and diuretic therapy. In this randomized, double blind trial,
50 patients were assigned to Captopril and 42 were assigned to placebo group. Over 2 week dosage
titration and 10 week evaluation period, the Captopril group revealed improvement in exercise
tolerance and specific symptoms of heart failure, including dyspnea, fatigue and orthopnea, and the
reduction of edema. Captopril therapy were concluded as an effect adjunctive treatment to digitalis
and diuretic drugs for patients with refractory heart failure. (14) Later on, other ACE I, such as
Enalapril, were shown to be effective in treating patients with congestive heart failure, by reducing
left ventricular dimension, in randomized clinical studies.(15 17) The Heart Outcomes Prevention
Evaluation Study Investigators conducted a factorial study to evaluate the ACE I, Ramipril, for
improving outcomes among patients with high risk for cardiovascular events, but without left
ventricular dysfunction or heart failure. Ramipril significantly reduced the rates of death,
myocardial infarction, and stroke in a broad range of high risk patients who are not known to have
heart failure. (18) Cattran et al. performed a registry study in Toronto Glomerulonephritis in patients
with severe immunoglobulin

Was Anti Semitism Justified
Anti Anti Semitism?
Does Judenhass sound scientific? Not to the Germans, who In 1879 developed the word anti Semite
to describe Jew Hatred , as the term Judenhass, did not sound scientific enough to the Germans.
Although the term, anti Semitism was not commonly use till the 19th century, unjustified hatred
towards Jews seems to have been in existence from very early on. In fact, it seems the very
foundation of the Jewish people was a result of the their being singled out for no reason other than
their ancestry to be slaves in Egypt. Ancient history is flooded with examples of Greeks and
Romans preventing Jewish observances, destroying temples and exiling the Jews. Pagan and pre
Christian anti Semitism was ethnic in nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both modern times as well as from 1071 1349 anti Semitism seems to be a religious based
hatred as opposed to racial or ideological based hatred as anti Semitism has been in other historical
periods. While in 1071 1349 the anti Semitism was justified based on Christian ideology, in modern
Europe anti Semitism seems justified under to radical islam theology. Both today and in 1074 1349
antisemitism fluctuated by place to place. The attitudes of local kings, or head of states
determined how Jews were treated in a particular village, town or region. In some areas Jews
lived in peace and in other areas they were persecuted daily. In Europe today anti Semitism
varies region by region and the degree and intensity of anti semitism varies. For example while
Sweden did not have any anti anti Semitic incidents in 2015, Germany had over 1,500. Another
similarity is that anti semitism in both modern times and in the period of 1071 1349 resulted in
the relocation of Jews. For example, In 1290, after a massacre, the Jews were expelled. In
Europe today while Jews aren t expelled, the attacks have become so frequent that Jews live in
fear and have begun to that have began to emigrate from Europe. As noted by Moshe Kantor, the
president of the European Jewish Congress, stated Over the past few years, tens of thousands of
Jews have left Europe to seek a safer home elsewhere, and today, one third of Europe s nearly 2.5
million Jews are considering emigration. Whole areas of Europe are being emptied of Jews.

  • 2. Women Hollering Creek Summary While reading the Women Hollering Creek I clearly see how patriarchy dominates the story. Perfectly describing a social system where the male rules and distributes privileges, where men are the head of the family and women are seen as property, subservient and not allowed to exercise any control over their own lives, including marital and sexual control. Cleofila is from Mexico, where she is raised with traditional values in her culture. She grew up in an environment where she was easily influenced by the patriarch in her life, her father, and after she married she continues to be treated as property, when Cleofila is being physically abused by her husband Juan Pedro. Cleofila s life had always been ruled by the men in her life, and was never allowed to make her owns decisions, or allowed to assume her own responsibilities in order to learn how to be an independent woman. How many Cleofila s existed around the world and continue to exist, where they are being oppressed by men, This woman found on the side of the interstate. This one pushed from a moving car. In other words, how can I blame Cleofila of allowing herself of becoming a victim, when she didn t have a maternal figure or any female figure in her life to teach her how to value herself, and how to be an independent person. She was raised and influenced by the main figure in her life, her father, who apparently was an authoritarian person, making all decisions in her life, and her six ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just as you are about to sink your teeth into your Dorito dusted taco, a thought awakens in your mind, wedged between your impending dread of upcoming midterms and that load of laundry you were supposed to do a week ago. How could you have forgotten that it s your significant others birthday? With your anxiety subsiding, you can finally sink your teeth into some good food. And I will stress that it is very good food. This meal will come in courses which begin with a light appetizer of bruschetta to start your evening. Now, I m not the biggest fan of raw tomato, and these little toasted baguette slices are piled high with it. However, I really enjoyed the tart balsamic vinegar, little tangy swirl of goat cheese, and yes, even the tomato mound. If this restaurant could get me to enjoy one of the few ingredients I didn t like, I knew what was to come would be a delight. Next up is your choice of soup or salad. I can t comment much on the state of their salad mastery with my fiancГ©e and me both opting to indulge in one of the soup options. Conversely, the minestrone soup they served me must have been dreamt up by a brilliant chef because that was the greatest I ve ever had. • 4. Key Contextual Language Differences Between Japan And... This case study will introduce the key contextual language differences between Japan and Singapore and the different language education policies of the two countries. Specifically, the historical background concerning the use of English in the two countries, the political landscape involving the role of English, the mentality towards English and lastly the teaching of English. In the past English was the language of the Singaporean government when Singapore was a British colony. Since then it has been a wellspring of economic resource. Meanwhile English has never held official status in Japan and the citizens of japan can make a comfortable living for themselves without the need for English in daily activities. English interestingly is very prominent in Singapore but has little use in Japan. Touching on attitudes, Singaporeans are fully embracing English while in contrast Japanese people still have lingering doubts. Certainly English education in Japan is heavily criticised however English education in Singapore is commensurate to other English speaking developed nations. A brief insight to the background of English within Japan and Singapore. Singapore In 1820 Sir Stamford Raffles acquired the Singapore as a commercial outpost for the British East India Company. since the acquisition, Singapore has changed (Leitch Lepoer, Barbara:1989).while Singapore was controlled by British East India Company, English was the language of the organisation and the settlement s occupants, ... Sixth-Grade Math Teacher Seventh grade mathematics teacher Mrs. Megan Ortinau at Van Buren Middle School begins lesson planning by thinking about her learning objectives and standards she would like to cover. She thinks about what she wants her students to take away from the lesson and moves forward from there. Before beginning, Mrs. Ortinau considers what her students have learned in previous grades, and she tries to expand on that as much as possible. She tries to compare the new material to material the students have learned in the past. This can be done by reviewing standards covered in sixth grade as well as communicating with sixth grade teachers. Also, communicating with sixth grade teachers can be useful when trying to determine where students will struggle.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ortinau s favorite teaching strategy is to relate mathematics to students lives or to get them up and moving with activities. I have not been present for one of these activities, however, for example, one Friday she led an activity that was an introduction to their unit on statistics and probability. The students were broken up into small groups and were each handed a small box of Sun Maid raisins. The students had to empty the box and count the number of raisins, which differed from box to box. Then, she created a line plot on a piece of green paper. On the bottom of the paper, there was a number line ranging from twenty five to forty. The students had to glue their raisin box above the number that corresponded with the number of raisins that were in their box. Mrs. Ortinau feels that students remember the lessons more when they are given the opportunity to make the discovery of a rule or formula on their own instead of just being told what it is. This can be seen when Mrs. Ortinau ties in life examples into her lessons. For example, her examples do not talk about Joey buying 700 watermelons, but her examples include a family of four trying to figure out how much change they will have after leaving a 20% tip on their $50 bill. This also creates a purpose for their math by explaining that adults must calculate every single time they leave a tip for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Does Henry Fleming Symbolize In The Red Badge Of Courage John Tunis exposes Henry Fleming s true nature and emotions through examples of motif and symbolism in his novel The Red Badge of Courage. Although there are several different motifs in this novel, two main ones that I noticed are: the idea of becoming a man, or the coming of age, and the constant them of courage. Although the amount of time from the beginning of the book to the end is only a couple of days, the amount of character development within Henry is tremendous. At the beginning Henry is a boy who romanticizes and fantasizes about battles and war, as stated in the first chapter, He had, of course, dreamed of battles all his life of vague and bloody conflicts that had thrilled him with their sweep and fire. In visions he had seen himself in many struggles... (P. 5). But, at the end of the book he is a man who has experienced the real gore and grit of war and as he walks away from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most popular examples of this literary device is the use of wounds, more specifically the red badge of courage and what it really represents. In regards to Henry s guilt Tunis narrates, At times he regarded the wounded soldiers in an envious way. He conceived persons with torn bodies to be peculiarly happy. He wished that he, too, had a wound, a red badge of courage. (p. 55) I found this quote quite profound and selfish of Henry at first. Henry was not injured, and was that not a blessing? But taking closer consideration I realized that the fact that he did not have a wound to show on the outside of his body injured his pride quite a lot. He wanted a wound to prove that he had fought bravely and courageously for his country and for his men, instead of running from battle. The red badge of courage symbolizes that a soldier had fought and sacrificed themselves to protect their country and men most importantly, it proves this to other people. Obviously the cloning of humans or the cloning of human cells is much different than the cloning of genetically superior livestock or a better quality, higher yielding food crop, and people throughout the world realize this. The cloning of human beings has become one of the worst fears in our society todayand for that reason many laws have been passed throughout European countries and North America in an effort to ban human cloning. These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells, whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used to create an exact replica of that creature. In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells, which happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each new cell to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A major factor in the victory was the style of the English attack. Edward sent his ships [...] two ships crammed with archers and one full of men at arms. Readers could not tell whether Sophocles would be choosing which but most conclude that Sophocles could be siding with family as it talks much more about it than authority. In the mind of a reader, family is mostly likely the winner as Antigone cares her brother Polyneices, Antigone denies the rule of Creon, Creon values his son and his wife, and Sophoclesmight be making a point when he made family important in Antigone. In the story of Sophocles, Antigone consider both Eteocles and Polyneices equally even though both were killed each other. But even so, Antigone consider them both as brothers and they are still part of the family. In the play, Antigone point out that Eteocles is being buried with honors while Polyneices isn t: Antigone. The Destruction Of Jerusalem And The Temple Point #2 The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in A.D. 70 fulfills Christ s prophecy of perilous times. 13: With v. 15 we come to a critical juncture in the discourse. To this point Jesus has referred to general signs that would characterize the period preceding Israel s collapse. Here in v. 15, though, he refers to one sign that unmistakably signals that the prophesied destruction is at hand. It would serve to alert the people of that generation as to the proximity of Jerusalem s ruin. In response to the question, When will these things be? Jesus now answers When you see . . . (v. 15). Abomination of Desolation is literally, the abomination that causes desolation. In the OT, abomination = an object of disgust, hatred, something that causes revulsion; an idolatrous offense or affront to the true worship of God. The Abomination of Desolation is referred to 4x in Daniel 8:13; 9:27; 11:31; 12:11. The first and immediate reference was to the Syrian king Antiochus who ruled over Palestine in 175 65 b.c. He called himself Theos Epiphanes ( manifest God ) but his enemies called him Epimanes ( madman; the insane one ). In 168 b.c. Antiochus Epiphanes slaughtered 40,000 Jews and plundered the temple. • 16. The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School... The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s. Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to provide public, free educationfor children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system began when two educational theorists and supporters of schoolreform, John Holt and Raymond Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them. It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their own ... Due to a shift in power from the weakening Emperor Yoshihito, Japanese culture encouraged artists to further express their own styles and thoughts on Western culture and which strengthened a sense of individuality and increasing departure from traditional private Japanese customs. The following ShЕЌwa movement only further increased this individualism. Despite this vibrant cultural merging of expression that inspired most art during this period, some artists continued to keep art to its traditional roots simplicity. Hitler s Nazi philosophy believed that Aryans who were Indo Europeans with blonde hair, tall bodies, blue eyes, and sharp facial features were a superior race (Anspach, Almog). Hitler said that he shall have no peace of mind until [he] had planted a seed of Nordic blood wherever the population stand in need of regeneration (Trevor Roper, Weinberg 358). These totalitarian states used athletic victory and superiority to promote their party ideals whether that be Fascism or Communism. This led to the use of sport organizations as pre military units that prepared the youth in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union to become effective and strong soldiers. Hitler and Stalin funded the development of sports in their totalitarian states, but at the same time heavily discriminated and mistreated their athletes. Jewish athletes were discriminated in both the Soviet Union and Germany and athletes in the Soviet Union had their lives ruined from heavy doses of steroids at very young ages. • 28. Punishment In Crime And Punishment Without suffering, there is no hope of achieving redemption. This idea is straightforward; no one consistently achieves what they want without struggling in some shape or form in order to get it, and redemption is the goal in this case. Dostoyevsky brings this religiously based concept into his novel Crime and Punishmentto show his readers how suffering is not only unavoidable but also a means of achieving something. In Crime and Punishment, A Russian man known as Raskolnikov murders an old pawnbroker and her younger sister. The work progresses to show that the motivation behind the murder is, among other things, to test a theory that Raskolnikov has about what kind of man he is. After an extensive series of subplots and nearly insane moral arguments with himself and those around him, Raskolnikov turns himself in and finds religionand redemption in a Siberian labor prison. His nihilistic ideas developed from his educational background and St. Petersburg s intellectual revolution steer the protagonist in the direction of the murder, but his inherent morality and his labor camp prison s religious tendencies push him towards the moment of spiritual rebirth that becomes the true meaning of the work. In addition to including the world around him and his own life events throughout the piece, Dostoyevsky fills Crime and Punishment with juxtaposition of characters, irony, and foreshadowing in order to present the importance of suffering and hard labor as the only means to ... Many people today see this as a major issue; however, a major argument has risen on how to solve this problem. One of the solutions that have been considered is lowering the voting age to 16 to get younger Americans votes. However many Americans think that this is crazy to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote. The clear and only answer to this contentious question is that 16 and 17 year olds should not be able to vote. As stated before 16 and 17 year olds should not be allowed to vote because sixteen and seventeen year olds are not mature enough, their opinions can be easily swayed or changed based on what others think, and they are not educated enough on politics in order to vote. How Vacation Is A Vacation Billy Stringfellow Amy McWhirt Composition I, On line 11 May 2015 Come Sail Away Vacation is a time that most people, both young and old, look forward to with great expectation. Much thought and consideration are usually given regarding the details and planning of a vacation. Finding a great location with activities and dining options for all can be challenging. Our family struggled with this dilemma for many years, until we went on a cruise vacation. There, we found the vacation of our dreams. We had a solid week that we did not have to drive anywhere, cook, wash dishes, clean anything, or even make the bed. Because one can travel in luxurious accommodations to exotic ports of call, enjoy fine cuisine, service and entertainment for an economical price, cruising is the best vacation one can take. Cruise ships leave daily from locations all over the world and sail to many wonderful ports of call. One can go to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, or even take a cruise to nowhere to name just a few. Depending on the length of the cruise, the ship stops at particular locations and stays in port all day. One can enjoy the best excursion each port has to offer during the day, then return back on board that evening to cruise away to the next day s location. The method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by Alec Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNAstrands that differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs), and developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler, 2005). Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is around one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary electrophoresis to separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic charge, size, or mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency, which requires that all alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary, accounting for DNA contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples that have a similar number of alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in familial DNA searching to find close biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other evidence is used to determine relatives, including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family relationships based on the fact that the Y chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and his sons; age; and geographic location. Representation of the Feminine in Select Ghost Stories of Ruskin Bond Ruskin Bond is one of those rare authors whose writings have been loved and accepted by readers of all ages and groups. His depiction of small town life in India and of ordinary individuals struggling to make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense of appeal and beauty. His stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to be associated with most of Bond s writing. Yet, there are certain aspects to his writing as it is true of any other great writer that deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren t immediately apparent. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by Bond in order to assess how the character of the female has been represented with a special emphasis on examining an element of the sinister which seems to be associated with each of these women. Whether as ghosts or as real, living individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict harm on other characters which marks them as being decisively dangerous. What this paper tries to ascertain is whether these female characters can be simply branded as being evil or if there are actual, justifiable reasons behind their actions which provokes them to act in the ways they do. The study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions and motivations of these characters who are evidently more complex than they initially appear to be. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Application Of Operant Learning Jane Tien Thuy Nguyen Professor Shaun Vecera Section 18 Elementary Psychology 05 October 2014 The Application of Operant Learning Operant conditioning and classical conditioning are two completely different forms of learning. Classical conditioning, discovered by Ivan Pavlov, is associated with learning through the process in which one reacts to a neutral stimulus. This process involves matching a neutral stimulus to a stimulus (UCS) that produces an unconditioned response (UCR), or a reflex, for a long period of time. Over time, the UCS would be removed and the person being manipulated would start reacting to the previously neutral stimulus, thus becoming a conditioned, or learned, stimulus (CS) that elicits a conditioned response (CR). Operant conditioning , on the other hand, is a form of learning where one s behavior is manipulated by the outcome. The consequences would take a toll on one s behavior and would either increase through reinforcement or decrease by punishment the likelihood of the behavior happening again. Both reinforcement and punishment are split into two types: positive and negative. Positive reinforcement and positive punishment involves controlling one s behavior, whatever the case may be, by presenting a certain stimulus. Negative reinforcement and negative punishment eradicate a stimulus to increase or decrease behavior. The differences seen between operant conditioning and classical conditioning are apparent. • 40. The Problem Of Judicial Review There is nothing controversial about saying, as Alexander Bickel did in The Least Dangerous Branch in 1962, that judicial review is a counter majoritarian force. When one gives an unelected judiciary the power to declare null and void laws enacted by popularly elected representatives, there automatically exists the possibility that those jurists will rule counter to the wishes of a majority. To be sure, the existence of this judicial power creates fundamental problems in a constitutional democracy, and many forests have been felled in the scholarly quest to analyze those problems. As Bickel observed, the counter majoritarian nature of judicial review is the root difficulty in the American judicial system. He also noted, however, that this force is an ineluctable reality. It is therefore misleading to argue that, empirical studies of judicial review have consistently found that Bickel s difficulty does not actually exist. The difficulty of which Bickel wrote did, and most definitely does continue to exist. Unpacking the socio political factors that influence the way in which the difficulty manifests itself in judicial decision making has prompted the aforementioned studies. As part of testing a MAC (Memory [GRAPHIC EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII] Affect [GRAPHIC EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE I advertising, four hypotheses were developed: ads with higher affective content would have higher recognition and recall, and subjects treated with [beta] blockers (Propranolol), which interact with those brain regions known to mediate affect, would have lower recognition and recall than those treated with placebos. The hypotheses are tested and broadly supported. This exploratory research, taken in conjunction with previous work, indicates some ways in which affect enhances advertising effectiveness. We conclude with directions for further research and testing the MAC model.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How that memory change is achieved, and how to measure it, are less understood. Advertisers have long used recognition and recall measures though they have been challenged (Gibson, 1983; Lodish et al., 1995; Percy and Rossiter, 1997). The mainstream of advertising research rests on cognition as the primary factor of memory change. Advertising has been thought to need a unique selling proposition, new news, a logical association, or to remind consumers of memories already in place. The smaller and more recent stream focuses on affect, such as liking the ad (Biel, 1990; Haley and Baldinger, 1991; Joyce, 1991). This research used [beta] blockers experimentally to test the impact of affect on the formation of ad memories, as measured by recall and recognition. The ingestion of [beta] blockers inhibits the experience of emotion though they do not remove the subject s ability to recognize emotion in the stimulus (Greenblatt et al., 1993; Cahill et al., 1994). They have no impact on attention nor cognitive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Zebra Mussels ZEBRA MUSSELS DREISSENA POLYMORPHA Zebra Mussels are small fingerlike size about two inches in length. They have a hard white shell with black strips. So that s where they get their name. The Zebra Mussels originated from the Caspian Sea region of Asia. They are fresh water mussel species capable to attaching to hard surfaces. The Zeba Mussels can tolerate a wide range of environment conditions. Adults can live out of the water for about seven days. In 1988 it was discovered that the Zebra Mussels were discharged into Lake St Clair near Detroit, Michigan. Lake St Clair connects to Lake Huron and Lake Erie. By the next year the Zebra Mussels traveled from these fresh water lakes into the Illinois and the Hudson Rivers. Zebra Mussels spread very fast and are now in all the Great Lakes and waterways in many of our states. They are also in Quebec and Ontario, Canada. These Zebra Mussels spread by attaching to ... They pull nutrients directly from the water at a very high rate. One Zebra Mussels can filter about a quart of water per day therefore, reducing the amount of phytoplankton available for other organisms like native mussels, fish and other lake animals. They out compete the native mussels species for the same resources. The Zebra Mussels filtration of phytoplankton causes a negative effect from the increased water clairity that results to the ecological structures of the lake community. However, some organisms benefit from the arrival of the Zebra Mussels. One is the red breasted sunfish .With the increased clarity it allows in more sunlight which give more growth that provides food and shelter to other organisms that fish like to eat. • 43. Baby B Sailingers War Stories Baby Bloopers/ Hospital Horrors I had my first child on Pesach, all went swell B H, the hospital experience was new to me. The War Stories happened by my next two births. I was myself for Shabbos, my husband went home to host the Shalom Zachar. I was on Percoset at the time this story took place. By the time I understood what happened, the mess was all straightened out. When the story traveled around, and got back to me with hands and legs, it turned humorous. I had the baby locally, and at some point, Shabbos afternoon, nurses scurried into my room and grabbed the baby out. I tried to ask some questions and, as I got vague responses, I said you just brought him in why are you taking him back, is everything okay? Apparently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When one of the nurses were done she put the child back in the wrong bassinet! It was a holiday weekend in December, they were understaffed, and the nurse who caused this particular mess was Pakistani. She was quite nasty and had given me the wrong baby for a total of 4 feedings, until the error was caught. We were just post 9/11 so being that she was Pakistani the story grew arms and legs, and was quite humorous to hear people repeat it back to me in its embellished form that we had sued the hospital, and that it was somehow done intentionally. Another tall tale, that they mixed up a boy and a girl and that s the only reason it was caught, and that we actually left the hospital with the wrong baby, on and on went the various versions, people said it with such certainty and authority. When I finally clued them in to the fact that they were talking to the person it happened to, they were not convinced of my version was the one they were referring to, and would say, oh well, maybe it happened to you too, but I know for certain what I just told you happened to someone, because my friends neighbors cousin told her so.... Since this happened to me, I have heard first hand from other people with similar experiences, of getting the wrong baby in top notch hospitals, all I can say is thank goodness it was mixed up with another frum baby. Some people are horrified, and insist that they would never mix up their baby, they would for sure realize... yeah, yeah at four in the morning with the lights out, 12 hours after giving birth, heavily medicated... don t go ... An investigation into the factors affecting the sustainability of CDF funded projects in Kiambu County Decentralization, as a governance theme has been popular in both developed and developing countries across the world in recent times (Khan, 2006). It is a favoured system of governance since, according to Nupia, 2006 it leads to high levels of accountability through transparency in decision making. Faguet and Sanchez (2006) also argue that decentralized systems facilitate monitoring and access which promotes accountability. World over, decentralizationis known to aid in the allocation of the scarce resources and the fact that regional governments have easy access to the citizens due to proximity (Oates, 1972). The advanced knowledge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of such funds is the constituency development fund, created in 2003 through the CDF Act which has been revised twice since then, in 2007 and 2013.The fund provides money to constituencies across the country and a CDF committee is mandated to identify and fund critical projects within the constituency whose aim is to improve the lives of the locals. Success of such decentralized frameworks highly relies on the existing legal framework establishing the fund and clearly outlining the functions and duties of each person in the successful execution of duties related the fund (Bagaka, 2008).However, research has also shown that political leadership has a tendency of skewed project identification, meant to benefit their people at the expense of the rest (lijpart, 1999). Citizen participation is thus critical in order to ensure that they do understand the aim of the fund, criteria of funds allocation and their role in ensuring that such projects are completed to their benefit. In as much as the current legal framework provides for specific criteria for establishing the CDF fund, the terminating side is not adequately provided for. In some cases these funds have not adequately served the purposes they were created for and hence minimal impact on livelihoods. A fragmented and weak framework ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Computer Surfing, And Real Life Experience It s funny when one takes away 9/11, computer surfing, and real life experience, I cannot name a time when I watched something forbidden or inappropriate. Let me rephrase that: others might have called certain movies or TV shows inappropriate for my age, but I was never left with that sense. Maybe it was because, for all that I was a pretty curious child, I respected when my parents told me I couldn t watch something. Maybe it was because my parents had a good sense of what I and my siblings could understand and process at those young ages. Truthfully, I still don t have a solid answer, but looking back on those old memories has given me an interesting perspective. My brother adored dinosaurs as a child. He had a laundry basket full of toy dinosaurs, an entire shelf of his bookcase was stuffed full of dinosaur related books, and when the Wild Animal Park in San Diego offered an animatronic walk thru of various dinosaurs he begged to go every chance he could. And his little 3 and 4 years old self loved Jurassic Park. My parents (read: my dad) watched it with him the first few times but after the fifth or so re watch they let him watch it alone. I hated the movie and the loud sounds made our baby sister cry, so whenever he started it up again I would carry our sister to a different room and then I would find something else to do. My brother never showed any signs that seeing dinosaurs attack and eat people affected him negatively the worst trauma inflicted was when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Clinical Trials And Observational Studies The efficacy of ACE I has been widely evaluated in clinical trials and observational studies. In 1983, Captopril multicenter research group investigated the efficacy of Captopril in a 92 cohort with heart failure refractory to digitalis and diuretic therapy. In this randomized, double blind trial, 50 patients were assigned to Captopril and 42 were assigned to placebo group. Over 2 week dosage titration and 10 week evaluation period, the Captopril group revealed improvement in exercise tolerance and specific symptoms of heart failure, including dyspnea, fatigue and orthopnea, and the reduction of edema. Captopril therapy were concluded as an effect adjunctive treatment to digitalis and diuretic drugs for patients with refractory heart failure. (14) Later on, other ACE I, such as Enalapril, were shown to be effective in treating patients with congestive heart failure, by reducing left ventricular dimension, in randomized clinical studies.(15 17) The Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation Study Investigators conducted a factorial study to evaluate the ACE I, Ramipril, for improving outcomes among patients with high risk for cardiovascular events, but without left ventricular dysfunction or heart failure. Ramipril significantly reduced the rates of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in a broad range of high risk patients who are not known to have heart failure. • 47. Was Anti Semitism Justified Anti Anti Semitism? Does Judenhass sound scientific? Not to the Germans, who In 1879 developed the word anti Semite to describe Jew Hatred , as the term Judenhass, did not sound scientific enough to the Germans. Although the term, anti Semitism was not commonly use till the 19th century, unjustified hatred towards Jews seems to have been in existence from very early on. In fact, it seems the very foundation of the Jewish people was a result of the their being singled out for no reason other than their ancestry to be slaves in Egypt. Ancient history is flooded with examples of Greeks and Romans preventing Jewish observances, destroying temples and exiling the Jews. Pagan and pre Christian anti Semitism was ethnic in nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both modern times as well as from 1071 1349 anti Semitism seems to be a religious based hatred as opposed to racial or ideological based hatred as anti Semitism has been in other historical periods. While in 1071 1349 the anti Semitism was justified based on Christian ideology, in modern Europe anti Semitism seems justified under to radical islam theology. Both today and in 1074 1349 antisemitism fluctuated by place to place. The attitudes of local kings, or head of states determined how Jews were treated in a particular village, town or region. In some areas Jews lived in peace and in other areas they were persecuted daily. In Europe today anti Semitism varies region by region and the degree and intensity of anti semitism varies. For example while Sweden did not have any anti anti Semitic incidents in 2015, Germany had over 1,500. Another similarity is that anti semitism in both modern times and in the period of 1071 1349 resulted in the relocation of Jews. For example, In 1290, after a massacre, the Jews were expelled. In Europe today while Jews aren t expelled, the attacks have become so frequent that Jews live in fear and have begun to that have began to emigrate from Europe. As noted by Moshe Kantor, the president of the European Jewish Congress, stated Over the past few years, tens of thousands of Jews have left Europe to seek a safer home elsewhere, and today, one third of Europe s nearly 2.5 million Jews are considering emigration.
